If all you are looking for is a place to sleep after a night on the town, then this hotel will fulfill such need, sometimes. The hotel is apropriatley priced at 18-25 pounds for a friday or saturday night (i have never stopped during the week, prices may vary). 18 pounds split between the 3 people the room accomodate is 6 pounds each, exactly the value in my opinion, the rooms are reletively clean, the communial halls are too and the public shower rooms weren't too bad either, but if you need a #1 or #2 then i advise you to wait until you get home, the communial toilet cubicals are dank, often wet, smelly, dark holes in the wall with a door, avoid. You have a 12 noon check out, which god forbid, you step over by even a minute (im not exaggerating) you will be bombarded with abuse by the foreign cleaners (im not rasicst, im just pointing it out). Although when you see the hotel with your own eyes, you wont stay anylonger than it takes to wake up, get dressed and leave any way. The staff are uninterested in helping you with whatever problem, be it problem neighbours or no clean towels, they dont care you get a grunt and a shrug of the shoulders at best. Altogether i have spent the night here on 3 occasions and on all 3 there have been, no clean toilets, no clean towels, noisy, abusive neighbours, the police screeching up sirens ablaze at 3-4am and at one point im sure i heard a gunshot. If you've had a long heavy night on the own like i had, it just about beats a shop doorway, just.
Formule 1 is a chain of low cost basic rooms with over 80 hotels across five continents! I have stayed at the Bordesley Green hotel in Birmingham on a number of times purely down to the low cost despite the poor service. The rooms comfortably accomodate three people with a double bed and a single bunk located above the double, the rooms are quite small and don't allow much space for getting around, bedding is often damp / mouldy and the rooms are clean to a degree. The positives about staying here is it will cost you next to nothing in comparison to a more reputable company like Travelodge or Premier Inn, on average I paid only £18.00 per night for 3 people which for £6 a head you would barely get anything anywhere else. Its fairly simple to book you can do it over the phone, via the company's website direct or via their comparison partner "Laterooms.com" and you don't have to pay a single penny until you arrive at the hotel to check in. The major downsides about the hotel is the fact the F1 section is seperate from the Ibis hotel which is where you report to check in and collect your room key, now even though there is generally always someone on the desk at reception in the Ibis section it is not common for the actual F1 building to be un-manned especially during the later part of the night when the building would be more vulnerable. The bordesley green hotel is often at its full capacity as I reguarly struggle to reserve a room unless its within a couple of weeks notice, the only problem with this is the constant noise level when we do actually get a room it is a major issue to get to sleep. There is always loud music, screaming and shouting and doors slamming at all hours of the night. The WC and Shower facility's are beyond basic, they are no better than a portaloo which you would find in the middle of a field, you find yourself walking in to a claustrophobic plastic mould with just enough room to step in and out. In all the times I have stayed there I have only ever seen the cleaners working in the early morning so been as guests are allowed in the rooms from 2PM the facilitys become extremely dirty by early evening often resulting in standing in urine surrounding by some very funky and unpleasant smells! The F1 chain is the real low of lows when you are looking for a pleasant, clean and relaxing place to spend the night, however if you are running on a low budget and simply need somewhere to rest your head after a heavy night on the town then its the ideal solution!
This has got to be the worst hotel experience Ive ever had. Firstly when I booked there was no mention of a shared communal bathroom. When we arrived and realised that we all had to share a skanky toilet with the rest of the corridor we were mortified! Secondly, the hotel was overrun with chavs in every room, pumping out happy hardcore and running up and down the corridors pissing about. We decided to go out for dinner and get drunk so we would be able to fall asleep through the noise. Out we went and when we got back at about 1am the hotel was nice and quiet. Not for long, the chavs returned and our corridor turned into a noise filled cell. Luckily there were some bikers staying in another room and I heard them get out of bed several times and shout at the idiots. Our door was knocked on about every 15mins and we didnt get any sleep for the rest of the night. I complained to their head office and got our money back, and was also told that someone called the police in the middle of the night and that people had to be removed. I stayed in a formule 1 in sydney and it was so much nicer. I think the problems with this hotel start with the fact that the reception is actually for the IBIs next door and therefore means that everyone can sort of do what they want in the other hotel as there is no security and a lot of weird people hanging arund outside the door. Wwe paid £28 for the room which we got back and we got a double bed with a bunkbed above it, a sink, and a shared bathroom which was unfit for use it was so filthy. Never stay here! Pay a bit more and stay somewhere normal.
