Heathside Guesthouse is a Victorian style detached property and has a four star diamond rating and a silver award from the from the English Tourism Council and based upon the evidence of my visit for a weekend in June 2007 these are well deserved awards as I enjoyed a very comfortable and pleasurable stay with a warm welcome from Kerri and Ken the owners and a good breakfast to boot. Location and Booking Heathside is located in the heart of the village of Fernhill Heath on the main road. My reason for visiting was to attend the wedding of a close friend in a neighbouring village however it is also an ideal location to visit a number of local attractions. Fernhill Heath is a short fifteen minute drive from junction five of the M5 and Heathside is a ten minute drive from Worcester. It would also be a great location from which to visit the quite beautiful Malvern Hills and is within an hour drive of Gloucester, Cheltenham, the Cotswolds and Stratford on Avon. Although route planners and the like are great for getting you to the village I do wish that the otherwise good website for the guesthouse had the small map of the village on it showing the location of the guesthouse on the main road actually on the directions page as I did find myself driving up and down a couple of times before I found the guesthouse and it is only now as I write this review that I find it is on the page for making online bookings which is the one page I never looked at prior to my visit. Booking can be either through an online booking enquiry form rather than a real time system or alternatively you can book by phone. I chose the latter as I needed to confirm a few details and I found Kerri to be very helpful and efficient confirming my booking by taking a credit card number and also being able to help out with advice on taxis and the like. Rooms and Prices In all there are nine rooms available offering a range of accommodation and all have an ensuite shower. I stayed in a single having managed to offload the rugrats for the weekend and it was of a good size and very comfortable. The cost of a one night stay was £36 including breakfast and prices rise to £55 for either one of the four doubles or two twin rooms, these rates re per room not per person and given the standard of accommodation I believe represent excellent value for money. The room itself had a very comfortable bed, TV mounted opposite the headboard and plenty of space for a single room. The room was also spotlessly clean and the decoration was nice and subtle and had a natural home from home feel to it. The shower room and toilet were quite big and would put to shame some four star hotels I have stayed in particularly ones on the continent. M only suggestion for an improvement would be the provision of some toiletries like shampoo but then maybe Im being too picky. As well as coffee and tea making facilities the wardrobe had enough hanging space for a suit and a couple of shirts and a nice touch is that all rooms have broadband access so a businessman on a budget could certainly stay here. Facilities and Experience There is ample parking to the side of the property on one looks like relatively new stone drive, at the time of my visit Heathside was fully booked and all of the visitors cars had plenty of space to park in. There is a guest lounge on the ground floor which looked very comfortable but I must be honest I only had a quick glance inside. The dining area is very nice with the room opening out to a glass conservatory with a nice outlook onto a well maintained garden, in fact the gardens front and back are well cared for. It was certainly very nice having a leisurely, slightly hung over, Sunday breakfast with the sun streaming in and the Sunday papers to read. The breakfast was really good with a range of cereals to choose from and orange juice on the breakfast bar. You can choose the full English or some variety of eggs if you want something hot and certainly you will not go hungry as there was a lot of food on my plate and the food was delicious especially the mushrooms and sausages which had some nice herbs in them. The coffee was nice and what I also liked was the fact that the toast was served hot which is my pet hate when other establishments fail to do this. The only possible improvement I could come up with would be to have a choice of fruit juice but again this is a minor point. The service at breakfast was really friendly and quick and n fact overall you always got the impression that nothing was too much bother for either of the owners and the whole feel to the guesthouse was relaxed and welcoming. Even though my room was above the side entrance to the accommodation I found I enjoyed a peaceful nights sleep however I did need to close my window at night as the boy racers did rather speed along the road outside however once asleep I was not disturbed until I woke in the morning. I would definitely recommend Heathside as a great place to stay, you will receive a warm welcome, clean accommodation and a comfortable stay. Check out the website for more information and prior to booking to check on the prices which are correct at the time of writing this review. http://www.heathsideguesthouse.co.uk/index.htm Thanks for reading and rating my review.
