      Marriott Hotel, Glasgow

Introduction Last weekend, I stayed at Marriott Hotel in Glasgow with my husband and daughter. I stayed their for two nights. The first night was for a Kings Size Room for which we paid £85. The second night was for a King Size Room, purchased using skywards miles which you get from travelling frequently with emirates airlines. The First Day of Our Stay The first day of our stay was absolutely fantastic. When we walked into the room, it was immaculate. The pillows were really soft and there about 5 or 6 of them. Luxury bedding featuring fluffier pillows and cotton-rich linens was provided and it was really comfy, There was a catalogue from Marriott selling the bedding that they provided in the room. However the bedding set is very expensive if you want to purchase it and it costs nearly a grand! The room had a really nice 32 inch flat screen TV. However, you do have to pay £6.95 if you want to watch any movies. You have to enter the room number you are staying using the remote control and it will get charged to your hotel bill. The cot they provided for the baby was satisfactory but it looked more like a play pen so make sure you bring extra bedding for the baby. A nice ironing board, iron and hairdryer is provided which is of good quality. I still prefer to bring my own hairdryer though as my hair kept getting tangled in the end of the hairdryer but that could be because my hair is very long! High speed internet was provided as well. The tea and cofee provide in the room was of excellent quality. The Second Day of Our Stay The second day of our stay was dissapointing as they gave us a room with a broken air conditioning unit and a broken fridge. The weather was very hot and my baby was crying all night. I called customer services and they said maintenance was not available to fix the air conditioning unit till morning and by that time we checked out. I was quite disspointed as I used 25000 skwards miles to book the room. It takes about 5 or 6 flights with Emirates to collect that many miles(rewards points) . I have logged a complaint with Marriott and skywards. The rest of the room was perfect but the absence if the air conditioning unit had a bad effect on the rest of our stay. It was such a shame as the first day rated ten out ten :(. Details about the hotel Glasgow Marriott is a four star hotel. There are 13 floors, 300 rooms, 2 meeting rooms and 2 suites. The guest services include laudry on-site, newspapers elivered to room on notice and safe deposit boxes on the front desk. You can check in at 2pm and check out at 12 pm.The on-site parking fee for your car is £1.60 hourly or £8 daily which I think is a cheap rate. There are 180 car parking spaces so get there quick! Attractions near the hotel are the Glasgow Science Centre,The Willow Tea Rooms and The Tall Ship at Glasgow Harbour. The hotel is near glasgow central train station. The hotel address is: 500 Argyle Street, Anderston, Glasgow, Scotland G3 8RR United Kingdom and if you would like to book a room call 0141 226 5577! I will also be posting this review under my same username Angela150 on Ciao.

        Great hotel in city centre

The Marriot hotel in glasgow is located in the city centre, but just a short walk away from the main areas with bars and clubs we got a taxi which took a couple of mins and cost just about £4 this was mainly due to out high heels. I stayed in this Hotel with some friends for a birthday outing it was £115 for 2 people one night in a twin room as its a 4 star hotel I was happy with this. It is a high standard of accomodation, rooms a good size with air con, nice clean bathroom, bed very comfortable and lovely soft bedding room service avail friendly helpful staff and great breakfast. All rooms have 24 hour room service and mini bar. The bar area is nice food and drink service is great fast even when busy and the food we had was lovely. A good value for money hotel in the city I have stayed here twice now and never had anything negative to say about it at all would highly recommend this hotel for price and value good deals cant be had on your stay.

        Consistant Glasgow hotel.

Have stayed here several times over the years. Last stay was last weekend. A very consistant hotel. Comfortable rooms, air con, quiet location - we have stayed in many Glasgow hotels and have had a lot of outside noise but never have had any bother here. We stayed in a king room with a comfortable superking bed. The room had a minibar but this was only stocked with wine and beer, there was however space to add your own items which is pretty useful if you dont want to pay a fortune drinking in bars, ice imachines are available by the lifts and you are provided with an ice bucket and glasses. The rooms are a pretty average size, but clean and equipped to the usual standard. You can upgrade to executive rooms, but I dont really see the need unless staying for several nights. Breakfast is the usual buffet choices, and can sometimes be pretty busy in the mornings but they seem to have extended the breakfast hours - they are 7-12 at the weekends and this certainly seems to have improved the atmosphere, it was pretty quiet when we went down. My one moan is you have to make your own toast - my pet hate in hotels - though on the first morning it was brought to us, I guess this depends on how busy they are. There is a pool and leisure facilities but we dont tend to bother with them. The bar has been refurbished and is pleasant to sit in, it is a bit pricey for drinks but so are most hotel bars, but certainly not the dearest in Glasgow. We did not eat in the bar or restaurant other than breakfast but the food others were being served looked pretty good and not too badly priced. The hotel has its own car park and it conveniently located to the motorway. It is about a 10 minute walk the St Enoch Centre, Kings Theatre and Sauchiehall Street, which has a good range of bars, restaurants and shops. I would recommend this hotel as a good mid priced hotel for Glasgow, very convenient for catching a show at the Kings Theatre and only a short taxi ride from the SECC - I'm not a fan of walking if I can get a taxi! Taxi is usually around £7 to SECC and £5 to the Buchanan Galleries shopping centre. The hotel tends to offer quite good value for families with younger children as they often can stay free. They also had a couple of teddies at reception which children can borrow if they write up what adventures they have had with the teddies during their stay which was quite a nice idea. Well worth checking out their deals as we have never had any problems here.

          Advantages

          Disadvantages

I spent an exceedingly comforatble two nights in the Glasgow Marriott recently. I was attending a meeting at the SECC, and it is possible to walk it from there in about 15 minutes, but a taxi is easier. The location is not brilliant. It's not near anything useful, and most things are a ride away. The staff were the epitome of helpfulness, and a smoking room was changed for a non smoking without a blink. Rooms are large and comfortable. There is a desk if you need it, an armchair, and a bowl of fruit, coffee maker etc. It was an exceedingly comfortable room and I was sorry to leave it. I only ate breakfast there. The breakfasts are the ususal contemporary buffet, but the choice was huge. Lots of fresh speciality breads, smoked salmon, hot and cold buffet and so on. Light airy breakfast room with an air of bustle. Looked at the bar. Nothing to write home about. Fairly comfortable, but hotel bars are probably not the place you want to drink in Glasgow. There is a modest health center, and I judge them by their swimming pools. This was just about ok, but was a funny depth shape. Health center staff were charming and helpful. By Glasgow standards, this is at the upper end of price, and its what you want someone else to pay for. I would probably choose this one again, and it reinforces my concept that Marriotts are ok.
