I'm tempted to say that the best thing about the Crown Hotel in Harrogate is its location and its certainly true that it is in a great location. It is in the town centre literally a stone's throw from Harrogate's top attractions of Betty's and the Turkish Baths and very close to all the other amenities that the town has to offer. Despite this it is set just behind them so doesn't get too noisy or feel too 'town-centre-ish'.
The truth is though that there is no 'best thing' about the Crown. It is a lovely hotel which has nice big bathrooms and bedrooms, well furnished in a fairly modern style whilst retaining the character of the building. The beds are really comfy, the showers are powerful, the bar is nice, breakfast is a hot and cold buffet with a large variety of good quality ingredients.
The prices seem very reasonable. I stayed on a Saturday night in October and the rate was £90 for b&b for a twin room, I also noticed on the website that there are a number of offers on winter dinner, bed and breakfast deals too.
Overall I think the Crown offers excellent value for money. I tend to go fairly budget on my accommodation so this is at the top of my price range, but I've struggled to get either a reasonable location or reasonable quality before and the Crown offers excellence in both.
The only downside is that the bar is pricey, although probably not by hotel bar standards and the parking is very limited (approximately 30-40 spaces for 108 rooms). On the website it says that the reception staff can help with finding alternative parking and I would definitely recommend finding out about that before you go if you are travelling by car, as being a town centre location most of the spaces around it have parking restrictions.
