Burnham Beeches Hotel Burnham
A Cosy Stay
We were extremely lucky to be invited to a friends wedding over in Burnham a while back, and even luckier to have our room paid for by our very well off friends. We were very excited when we saw what the hotel actually looked like online and were very keen to spend the night there.
*****The Hotel Grounds*****
On first sight, the simple word of 'wow' springs to mind. The outside of the hotel flowed with the feel of elegance and peace as the beautiful Georgian hotel is a picture of tranquility.
The gardens themselves are absolutely amazing, the pure size of them hits you hard as you stand there in perfect awe. It is a welcoming change to many small and hidden away hotels i have seen. Perfect for a relaxing stroll with your loved one, or if you prefer there are some leisure facilities in the leisure club!
There is also a pleasant security guard who wanders the grounds, though he did not fill me will confidence. He was nice enough, that is true, yet he looked as though a mouse would chase him away in a fight! Possibly better not to leave your valuables in your car!
*****Entering the Hotel*****
The reception area surprised me. After seeing the vast grounds and hotel from the outside, I expected something far bigger and grander, yet the reception room was tiny in comparison. A small detail which to most is useless, yet I felt that it was a detail worth mentioning, as it was something which struck me as odd. It certainly was not the welcoming feel that I expected, yet I soon got over this minor detail.
The staff were extremely welcoming, although their uniforms seemed slightly out of place in the beauty of the hotel, yet again, this is a random thought which does not affect the experience in any way!
We were offered a bag carrying service whilst we relaxed in the bar, yet we declined as I needed to change, though our friends took up this offer and made their way to their room a while later to find that their bags had not been put into their room, yet left out in the corridor! Not the best of service at all.
An important aspect for many, at least my husband always makes a beeline to the hotel bar, and if you are here for a wedding then this is perhaps one of the most important things to look at.
The first thing that came into my mind is the prices! They were extrodinarily high! Approximatly £5/£6 for a tia maria was crazy!
One good thing if you like to party is that the bar area stays open through the night until the last person has decided to go to bed, although this is a negative aspect if you wish to go to bed and there are rowdy customers still partying at unearthly hours of the morning. A great aspect, though, if it is a wedding celebration, which is very popular here. I think the bar prices put a lot of people off drinking all night, as after a few good drinks your pocket is simply empty!
Bar food was also served, and was reasonably priced, yet there was much more of a range in the resturant, yet that is to be expected.
The bar staff are well trained and polite, yet nothing overly special. Overall, except for the prices, I think that the bar area is a very welcoming place.
The resturant is quite cosy and welcoming, whether it is a large party or a table for two.
The service was somewhat slow during breakfast, which made me wonder whether the staff were part of the party the previous night!
The breakfast itself was varied in range, although I can not comment on the vegetarian aspect. The breakfast was extremely filling and appertising and was a lovely welcome for the morning after a long night.
The meals at night were equally lovely and very well presented, and the staff seemed more alert and quicker to serve than the morning, yet this could be because it was a wedding party.
Some of the food includes:
Fresh fruit Yoghurts
Fruit cake bars
Scones jam and cream
Although I did not take the opportunity to partake in the leisure facilities, we did have a little look around (who wouldn't!) and I was quite impressed with what I saw.
There is a great sauna and spa and a full range of beauty treatments on offer for those wanting to experience a relaxing break. If you are more active, there is also a small swimming pool which was not at all busy when we looked in, and had a pleasent feel to it, yet it was very basic for what I was expecting, and even a well stocked gym for those really wishing to push the boat out!
Within the grounds there is also a tennis court and a croquet lawn and if you wish to go out of the hotel area, there are many places in which to play golf or even horse ride!
Overall, a whole range is offered which was extremely surprising, and I only wish I could have taken part in the leisure.
An aspect in which everyone is interested in, because if the bedrooms are not up to scratch then it does not matter in the slightest how brilliant the rest of the hotel is.
The bedroom in which we stayed was extremely small in comparison to the size of the hotel, yet it did hold a cosy feel to it. Unfortunatly, the heating could not be controlled within the room (unless we just missed it) so it did become slightly stuffy, yet within this hotel the windows did open (a memory from another hotel where the windows did not open) and the air conditioning made it much more pleasent (if not slightly noisy).
Within our room, we had a double and a single bed and it was perfectly clean and tidy to the eye, with the decor creating a welcoming feel. One thing in which I feel I need to mention is that as this hotel provides wedding venues, the rooms seemed very cramped for a bride and bridal party to get ready in, yet there may be bigger and more spacious rooms, that I am not sure about - so I would recommend ringing and perhaps going to view the rooms before making a decision on a wedding gathering.
Room Amenities include:
Non-smoking rooms, Alarm clock, Internet access - dial-up, Telephone, Coffee/tea maker, Hair dryer, Television
I did read some reviews before we actually went to stay at this hotel which did give a bad impression on the rooms, yet our experience was not at all bad.
*****Meeting and Event Space*****
The hotel offers a wide range of different rooms for special events and meetings, varying in size and shape. It is always best to check the rooms first before booking to make sure you have the best room to your specifications. Rooms can provide space for up to approximatly 180-200 people which is perfect for weddings.
Rooms start from approximately £80 upwards, which is a fair price for what is on offer, even though it is still quite expensive, yet it is each to their own on cost expectations.
Event rooms depend on how long you wish to have the room for, and what room you choose. The cost seems to range around £160 give or take, which is average price for function rooms of this manner.
A roundup of the Hotel Amenities include;
Room service (24 hours)
Safe-deposit box - front desk
24-hour front desk

Overall my experience of this hotel was really great, not perfect but great nonetheless. I felt it was slightly over expensive, yet as ours was being paid for I really didn't think of that too much!
I would certainly recommend this hotel, though for special events I would also recommend that you visit it before hand as this hotel is not perfect by any means, yet I am yat to find a hotel which is!
