The Brookdale Hotel, Truro was able to accommodate our needs and is a privately hotel which is set in its own grounds off the A39 road. The Brookdale, we found from personal experience is a warm, inviting and friendliness, plus has the added attraction of restaurant and meeting facilities. Due to major traffic hold-ups in Birmingham, Shane and I arrived very late, like four late, but that was not a problem. We phoned the hotel, explained the problem and they kept our room waiting for when we finally arrived! Truro is well situated for touring Cornwall with a host of beautiful places and attractions. We were actually looking at homes in Mid-Cornwall, so hotel was ideally placed for our requirements. The City, which is only a few minutes walk from the hotel itself, and boasts a fine, yet modern Cathedral plus a very compact shopping centre. The arts are well catered for with an interesting museum, antique shops, and an excellent entertainment venue in the 'Hall for Cornwall' and some enchanting art galleries. The City also hosts various festivals and events during the year. There are many gardens, golf courses, beaches and places to get away from it all within a short distance, not bad for the dog either. There is a large car park with some covered spaces, at The Brookdale Hotel. **Room Rates (per room) ** Single £52.00 £40.00 Small Single £49.00 Double for single £60.00 £49.00 Double/Twin £70.00 £60.00 Dogs cost £2.50 per night and are not allowed in the public areas. Scamp was not charged for her stay! These prices include a continental breakfast consisting of: Cereals Cheese Boiled Eggs Croissants Fresh Fruit Ham Toast Yoghurts Fruits Juices Tea and Coffee For an extra £4.00 a full English Breakfast can be provided. The menu offers: Bacon Baked Beans Fried Bread Mushrooms Poached or Fried Eggs Sausages Tomatoes <br>Many of the rooms have been re-furbished to 3 star quality and each bedroom has its own direct dial computer ported phone. All rooms have en-suite bathrooms, plus the ubiquitous tea/coffee-making facilities, colour television, trouser press, hair dryers, note pads and the like! **San Carlo** Why not enjoy either something simple like a plate of pasta with a fresh sauce or something more exotic with a bottle or two vinos from our extensive wine list. Dinner in the hotel's unique Italian Ristorante on Monday to Saturday, open from 7.00 to 9.30pm. This Italian Ristorante is very popular with residents and local patrons, offering a relaxed, comfortable ambience. Sunday - closed - Cold snacks only. This restaurant offers a varied Table d?hôte and A la Carte menus prepared in the kitchen daily from locally supplied ingredients. Dinner A la Carte Menu £17.95 (Including Sweet and Coffee) For those with a smaller appetite One Course £12.00 Two Course £15.95 *Sample Menu* STARTERS Chilled Fruit Juices Soup of the Day Egg and Prawn Salad Antipasto Italian (Mixed Italian salamis) Tonno e Fagioli (Tuna with borlotti beans) Parma Ham and Melon Deep Fried Mushrooms (With garlic mayonnaise) Penne Arrabiiate (Quills with tomato and chilli sauce) MAIN COUSES (Fresh Vegetables or Salad Included) Fillet of Lemon Sole Capricciosa (grilled sole with devilled sauce) Poached Salmon Steak Doria (with cucumber and melted butter) Pollo Cacciatora (chicken with wine, tomatoes and mushrooms) Pollo Valdostana (chicken with ham and cheese) Anatra alle Ciliege (breast of duck with cherry sauce) Involtini San Carlo (parcels of veal with ham, cheese mushroom and cream sauce) Choice of Sweets Coffee and Amar etti I personally found the menu limited for Vegetarians and non-existent for Vegans! **How to get there** *From Exeter* Follow the A30 to Bodmin / Carland Cross (Wind Farm) and then take the A39 to Trispen and Truro. *From Plymouth* Follow the A38 to Dobwalls, then A390 to St. Austell and Truro. **Address** The Brookdale Hotel Tregolls Road Truro Cornwall TR1 1ZJ Tel: 01872 273513 Email: brookdale@hotelstruro.com The Brookdale Hotel can currently offer three function rooms of various sizes, being suitable for small conferences, Trade Display Stock Rooms, Private parties and meetings. It is planned in the future to be able to offer video conferencing facilities for all conference suites. A full catering package and accommodation is available for all occasions. Functions Manager: Sue Kneebone for any further information. My only real complaint with the hotel is that it is not wheelchair friendly. It is built on a hillside, but there are many steps to climb. I am glad I brought my sticks, as I would not have been able to use my chair within the building at all.
