“ Address: 20 Tower Road / Newquay / Cornwall / Great Britain „
Base Surf lodge is located in Newquay, Cornwall just a few minutes walk from both Fistral Beach and the town centre. I visited Base Surf Lodge last year. We were having a holiday on a shoestring. Having got bargain National Express tickets down to Newquay we needed equally as budget accomodation. Hotels and B&Bs ruled out we started looking at the other breeed of lodgings in Cornwall's surf capital - surf lodges. There are many of these in and around Newquay but we found Base to be most reasonable. We went off season at the end of March when Cornwall can offer gorgeous sunny days and some downright miserable ones. For that reason, rooms are cheap. We paid £13.50 per night. These places put their prices up during peak time but you can still get a room for £20 - £25 in the middle of summer. The rooms are basic. Walls. windows and a bed is pretty much all you get. We lived out of suitacases but we wanted the sort of holiday where we were out exploring all the time, not lounging around so it suited us fine. There's not breakfast included, but there's a cute little lounge and bar to watch TV and hang out but off season this was hardly ever manned. The style of the place is relaxed, you can come and go as you please. We saw the owner when we arrived, paid our money and got our key and then saw no one else the whole time we were there! Booking was easy, just phone up and book. We paid on arrival but I guess on busy periods they'd want payment in advance. Toilets and shower rooms are located on each floor and they are basic too. A little dark but clean and functional. In March they were cold through, as was the whole place. I guess with few guests they scrimp on the central heating! My advice, if you visit between October and March - take extra warm clothes - for inside as well as out!! This aside we managed a great memorable holiday on a tight budget. It can be done!!
The lodge is ideally situated overlooking Fistral beach. Great for surfing enthusiasts.
