Excellent hotel, would recommend and stay again.

Stayed in this hotel in March 2013 for three nights. We were welcomed by friendly reception staff and promptly checked in. We had a City Room (basic room) on the 4th floor. The room was very nice, large wardrobes and mirrors, nice dressing table/desk area, and an armchair. It wasn't overly spacious, but ample for my needs. The room had all the usual amenities, tea, coffee, still and sparkling water and biscuits were complimentary. There was a hair dryer, Elemis shampoo soap etc were nice. Beds and pillows were extremely comfy! There was also a large LCD tv mounted on the wall - a great bonus! We were given a disabled room (not that we needed or requested it!) which meant to bathroom was extremely large and a wet-room style, no bath. Not sure how the standard rooms differ. Other reviews had said how noisy the hotel was, but we had a room at the back and therefore weren't at all affected by any noise. The windows weren't double glazed which meant on a windy night the room was extremely cold, there was a large draught coming through the window next to the bed! We did not complain though so I cannot comment, I assume, based on the helpfulness of the staff, they if we had asked they would have moved us. Luckily the second night wasn't so windy. The restaurant on the top floor is expensive but the menu is interesting and extremely tasty, the view of the castle was spectacular, so worth trying. We went once and on the other two evenings ate out in the centre of Edinburgh, there's an abundance of restaurants nearby. Location is good, in the Grassmarket area of the city. 5min walk up the stairs to the castle, about 5mins to Royal Mile and 10-15min walk to Princes Street and Waverley Station. Lovely swimming pool and bar area.
