Whilst I appreciate Jewson have great ranges and on some of the bulkier goods, such as sands, platerboard etc. can offer great value. However I run a family DIY store (in the family for 50 years) and have found on some products they are rediculously expensive, over 100% over our in-store prices. I have been trying to find out trade prices from them, especially on their smaller goods (fixtures & fittings etc.) but as they have numerous discounted (?) prices it is proving difficult. If anyone wants to help a small family business and could spare a trade invoice, or two (obviously with important personal detail blocked out it would be much appreciated and help save a number of local trades some hard earned cash!?
Jewson are a fantastic professional outfit. As our family business involves building and joinery we can use jewson wherever our job takes us in the country! We can get pretty much anything we need from them and if they dont have it they will certainly do there best to get it in for us.
We mainly buy timber, bricks, sand off them but they also kit us out with other things such as gravel. If you are looking at doing some DIY. and buying in bulk. for example sand by the tonne. they can often come up with a very good price for you so i would reccomend them to anyone thinking of laying there own patio, building a wall or a pond. or even building house extensions or garages. There delivery service is also second to none. We buy from them on a morning and they will deliver to the house we need the goods at. They always phone ahead if they are going to be late. and in general it is a pleasure to shop with them. From time to time we have had slight hic ups but one quick phone call and everything is resurected. The good thing about the phone lines is it always seems to be someone who knows what there talking about. If we ask if they have a certain brick in stock and how much they have they can usually tell us. I think this is because most have on site receptions and all call centres and dial options are avoided. The phone manner of everyone we deal with at dewson is always down to earth yet proffesional and always come away with the information we need. if they arent sure they will find out for you and call you back.
I think out of all the big building merchants. and DIY shops if i had to pick one i would choose jewson. WE have used alot in the past and experienced difficulties that cost our business time and money. But with jewson difficulites are indeed a rarity and they are a pleasure to shop with.
Reccomend them to buisnesses or everyday familys wanting to do some small scale home/ garden improvements
I am refitting my entire bathroom and I bought my bath, sink, shower, toilet and taps from Jewsons.
I don't think Jewsons is the first place people might think of to buy their bathroom from, but I would highly recommend them, in particular the one I used which was the Godalming one.
Jewsons sell all the popular ranges, as of writing this they certainly sell Twyfords and Ideal Standard. The main reason we picked them was because I was looking for Bristan taps and they sell these too. While I was there I asked about the bathroom range I was considering and they happened to be even cheaper than the cheapest place I had found online.
The member of staff who dealt with my order has been very patient with all my mind changing, he has called me back when he said he would, and has come up with ideas for me to consider when I got option paralysis in choosing my bathroom!
The only down side is that the Jewson shops only seem to be open Monday to Friday and only until 12 noon on a Saturday which made it a little difficult for myself to find the time to go and visit.
====== Update ========
Just a little update. Our bathroom arrived on the day they said, all the bits were there, unfortunately 3 items were not up to scratch. Actually they had scratches on them. However, one phone call to Jewson and they were very helpful. They ordered new ones in right away which were ready for us to pick up the next day! I was very impressed with that.
I have recently undertaken a new project, revamping the garden. I have been putting it off for a few months now, but I decided last week to crack on, I had an image of what I wanted the garden to look like and the first call of duty was a new fence. Now I should mention I work for a company called Weber who is owned by the same company who own Jewson, I will however try not to be biased.
Jewson have hundreds of stores Nationwide mostly located in out of town areas. The reason I decided to choose Jewson was because of the group discount I receive, I did however research other DIY stores and the standard cost for fence panels, posts and bedding mortar all seemed fairly similar, even the specific large DIY stores such as Homebase offered them at around the same price.
I approached the Jewson store in Flitwick with a clear mind, I had never personally dealt with Jewson and had no idea what to expect. I was surprised to find it was just like any other DIY store, they offered everything the tradesman or general DIY'er would need or want. All items are displayed clearly and are all well labeled; they also have an outdoor area for garden pieces such as fences or paving.
My experience with Jewson I have to say was generally very good, I approached the help desk and was approached by a gentlemen who took my order, he typed it into the computer and asked me for my requested delivery date, I was expecting to pay for delivery but was told it was free, very reasonable. The gentlemen asked me when I would like it delivered, considering it was a bank holiday weekend and I was ordering on the Friday, I wasn't expecting any miracles. The gentlemen told me that the Flitwick store had no time slots on the Saturday, so it would have to be the week after.
Before I could agree he quickly ran into the back room, he came out and told me that he had been on the phone to the Bedford branch which was actually closer to my home. He then phoned the store again in front of me and told the gentlemen on the phone my details and my order. He then asked me how I would be paying, I said direct debit, he then passed me the phone and I gave the Bedford employee my card details. That was the order complete. They could deliver that afternoon around four; I decided to take a bit of time off work and got home at around 3:30pm, shortly after I got home I got a call telling me my goods were being loaded onto the lorry and would be with me soon.
As promised the Jewson lorry appeared outside at four o clock on the dot, considering most companies give time slots, an exact time was very beneficial. The only small problem I had was that the driver simply dropped the goods off in my front garden. He said he would usually have taken the goods around the back for me but he was in a rush, I didn't mind so much because I had got the goods fairly cheap, but it still meant I had to carry the goods around the back by myself, if I was an elderly person or were handicapped I would have been in serious trouble, although I'm sure if that were the case they would have taken them round.
The goods were in good quality and the order arrived in the correct quantities, I have now used them all and have had no problems. I will defiantly use them again for the future goods I will need to complete my garden, I would also advise anyone else to use them. If you are in the trade it may benefit you to know that they offer a trade card which gives you discounts and benefits on all their goods. The staff I encountered all seemed genuinely helpful and knowledgeable, I asked a few questions regarding constructing a fence and the gentlemen who served me seemed to know exactly what I would need, a great help for anyone who is a little uncertain.
