A good pair for everyday use

After playing computer games for years in my own room all by myself, I had gotten used to having the sounds on normally with no-one to complain about the shooting and monsters screaming. After moving in with my girlfriend, it took about three weeks before she demanded I either hit the mute button or buy headphones. Luckily she actually took it into her own hands and bought me these Sennheiser headphones for Christmas.

They feel extremely comfortable on, I actually have quite a large head where I struggle to wear headphones without the feeling tight. These have a nice, soft cushion feel like quality to them which makes my ears feel snug and cosy without feeling too tight.

From years of listening to the sounds normally, I thought I would find it difficult to listen to the music while cutting out the other sounds in the room. I think the sound quality of these headphones is excellent and every sound, whisper is heard the way it is meant to sound. I find the bass can be a little bit too intense at times but overall I think the sounds coming from the headphones is good. It also has a slight volume control which is useful when things can get a little too loud.

My girlfriend refused to tell me how much she paid for mine but a quick Google search shows that the Sennheiser HD429 can retail at around £50, well worth the money in my opinion.

As good if not better than more expensive headphones

I spent a long time researching headphones and after listening to these in -store, decided to make the purchase. For the money, they are great value. The brand was recommended in-store and although I am no "audiophile", I consider the sound reproduction to be very good- certainly on-par with more expensive models. They produce good sound across the full audible range, and even sound good with classical music, though I don't think they were necessarily designed with this in purpose. They can play at quite a loud volume without distortion (total harmonic distortion <0.1%)

Here are some highlights re their specification

      1. High-output neodymium magnets
      2. Smooth bass response
      3. 3m long single sided cable
      4. 18 - 22000 Hz frequency response, which covers almost the full spectrum of human hearing. Check this
against other headphones- many do not extend to the far ends of our hearing hearing so you miss out
      on accurate sound representation
      5. Optimized for portable audio -mp3's etc
      6. Very comfortable padding makes them a joy to wear
      7. Standard 6.3mm adaptor plug

They may not have the "wow- factor" in terms of appearance and brand recognition that some of today's "trendy" headphones have, but this should not stop anyone considering them. They are super- comfortable to wear and can therefore be kept on for long periods of time.

As they do not fold up, perhaps not the best for travelling, but this is a small compromise for the quality of sound they produce. I did read a review elsewhere when deciding to buy these that described them as flimsy, but I have not found this to be the case. They appear very well made to me.

In summary, you will not be disappointed if you buy these. You will enjoy crisp clear music on par with much more expensive headphones. They may not be the fashion item that more expensive makes have become, but they are solid and well made.

      Disadvantages

Good for what their designed to do, but not much else

First off, if you want these headphones so that you can listen to your music when walking to class, or for long car rides, these headphones are not a good buy. If you are genuinely going to use these as a Dj, then these are a definite buy.
      Pros
Because they are Sennheisers, you know that they are going to be quality, so its not a surprise that they are so comfortable that you could wear them for hours without having ear pains or discomfort. Second the style is very sleek and they are pretty sturdily built, when you are changing from having them over your ears to around your neck a lot during an event, it is not going to affect the integrity of the joints, which is great because the past three headphones I had (Skullcandy) all broke right on that joint and were probably some of the most annoying headphones I have ever had. Sound quality was very nice in mine, there was just enough bass that it sounded great but not too much that you would get sick of it during long listening periods. The mids and highs sounded crystal clear as well and was clear even when the songs were not that great of quality. There was no difference in sound quality between a computer and a mp3 player, which I have seen in other DJ headphones. The cord was extremely long and came with an adapter, which was nice for when they were needed for different types of audio outlets.
      Cons
These are Dj headphones so if you want to be quiet then this is a bad choice. When you play the music the speakers almost sound like they are on the outside of the headphones, so your music can be heard by everyone around you, even at a low volume. On that note as well, if these are advertised as being noise canceling or noise quieting at all, they are not, I could turn my volume all the way up and still have a conversation with the person next to me. These don't fold or become compact for travel, which was a little sad, but you can get a really nice case from Sennheiser so that was not that big of a con. You can disconnect the audio cord from the headphones, which makes packing them much much easier, especially since the cord is so long. In fact I actually used a rubber band to tie up all of the excess cord that I did not need.

Overall these headphones are great for everything but quiet listening. I was incredibly satisfied with them but they were not what I was expecting and after a few months I decided to sell them, and buy a nice pair of Bose. So if you are deciding whether or not you want to get these, just ask yourself if these are exactly what you want, because they are specifically designed for a set purpose. I hope this review helps you out.
