This was the first tablet I have ever bought. When I first bought the Kindle Fire I was particularly impressed and I would highly recommend this to people who haven't had a tablet before. It's been a great starting point. My mum has one and she loves it. It's great for playing videos, checking emails and I especially love it for reading books as it is the perfect size. The kindle element to it is great. I always said I would never buy one but when I did I was more than impressed. Disadvantages - it takes a long time to charge and can be a little slow.

      loved product by my family

Kindle Fire HD When i first bought my kindle fire HD i didnt know how much more it could do compared to the orignal kindle. As well as been able to read books, the kindle fire is in colour and works just like a phone. You are able to download apps and broswe the internet just like you could on an iphone for example. The kindle fire HD is heavier than the orignal kindle but is still light compared to other handheld computers and is quick easy to use and there are many accessories to buy from amazon to be able to keep it protected. You can also put a password protection on this for protection when locked. Because of been able to log straight onto amazon for 1 click purchase of kindle books I feel anyone who is wanting a tablet but a kindle also should defanitly go for this.

      One of my favourite widgets.

My Kindle Fire HD was my first e-reader and my first tablet and it's perfect for both jobs. I've been a diehard book reader for most of my life and for a long time I resisted the urge to start reading electronically. The Kindle Fire HD was just too much of a temptation as it is so much more than just an e-reader. It's great being able to download apps, though Amazon has a more restricted choice than other providers. The free app of the day is always worth checking out. I'm perfectly happy with the choice of books on Amazon - I've already downloaded way more than I'll ever read. It's easy to use the controls to get the perfect reading setting, you can adjust brightness and font size easily. The main drawback is not being able to organise books into categories - to do this you have to purchase an app whereas I think this should really be included in the settings on the Kindle. Another slight issue is that the Kindle Fire HD does not come with a mains charger, just a cable to charge via computer. I bought a USB plug on ebay which solved this problem, it just would have been nice if it had been included in the original purchase especially as it needs recharging regularly.

      Fab for reading and browsing

I was brought the Kindle Fire HD from my husband for christmas after nagging and nagging about getting one. It has brilliant sound quality for the speakers' sizes, and excellent video quality. I'm already subscribed to Love Film instant so the kindle is obviously perfect to catch up on all my favourite series in bed!. The browser is very fast and you can do practically everything on it! Emails, Apps, Downloads, Reading - you name it!! It's definitely not an ipad and i don't ever think they pretend to be. The Kindle isn't made to be a tablet as such but an e reader! I am a very keen reader so this is absolutely perfect for my reading! Not to mention all the free books in the amazon kindle store!! Books are also a fraction of the price when downloaded in Kindle edition. I would recommend this but only if your wanting an e reader and not a high spec tablet!

A fantastic Kindle and tablet combined which is fun and easy to use

I have used and loved my old faithful kindle for some time and although I didn't intend to replace it, I wasn't disappointed to open a new and updated Kindle Fire HD. About the product This product is essentially a Kindle and tablet combined and has a touchscreen. It has a HD display which allows you to watch movies and TV shows, play games, use apps and read books with a crystal clear picture. It comes with an antiglare screen so it can used outdoors and a screen which switches to both portrait and landscape. It promises to be fast performing and to come with a 10 hour battery life so you can use it on the go. The product has a 7 inch screen with the whole Kindle having a height of 191 mm, a width of 128 mm and a depth of 10.6 mm. It has a weight of 345 grams. Appearance The product is a lot more expensive and classy looking than my old Kindle. The back and edging of the Kindle is a glossy black material which looks lovely and feels really smooth in your hands. The front is glass and the only detailing on the product is an on/off button and two volume buttons to turn the volume of your show up and down. Price Mine was a gift so it was free but normally you'll have to part with around £119 of your cash to get your hands on one of these. They are available from plenty of different online websites. My experience This product is quite a bit heavier than the original and although it's not too heavy, it does make your arm ache after a little while. You do have to be more careful with this one too as it wouldn't take much to smash the screen when dropped so the first thing I did was buy a cover for the product. The product is so easy to use. I didn't need to refer to the instructions at all as it is simple and straightforward. The sections are all listed across the top so it's easy to choose the one you want by tapping it and your most recent selections appear in the middle of the screen. Book I simply logged into my Amazon and all of my previously purchased books appeared on my new Kindle fire. There are stored using their front covers which is much better than before. When you read the books, you can do so straight up or landscape, and you can change the background to better suit your eyes. The books are easy to purchase in the store and they are sectioned into different genres and other easy to view categories. My favourite thing as always is a chance to read a free sample of a book before buying which has saved me some money! Magazines Magazines are fantastic on this product! The colour of the pictures are brilliant and it is fun to read. Where there are adverts and write ups about a product you can click on the articles to take you straight to the web page that you can buy it from. It is quite interactive allowing you to click on your star signs and I really like this feature. Films and TV The picture on this product is crystal clear. Even though the screen is small, the detail is perfect and the colour is vibrant and it compensates for the size. The sound is also fantastic with the volume going up higher than I would ever need it to and the sound seems to be like surround sound. In a word, brilliant! It puts my boyfriends Ipad to shame. Apps You purchase the apps in the same way as you would on an Ipad or Iphone. They work well and look good, and I have found most of the apps that you would on these other products apart from a view. Conclusion All in all, I am so happy with product even though I didn't know that I wanted it. It is great for books and magazines, allowing you to read in the dark without an annoying clip on light. The words and pictures are crystal clear. Movies have a fantastic picture and sound, and you can download all your favourite apps. The product is easy to use and great entertainment. I would advise getting a good cover as it would smash if dropped but other than that I would highly recommend this Kindle.

        Highly recommended

I was in the market for an e-reader and, having done some research on the Kindle range, I opted for the Kindle Fire HD. My primary reason for opting for this model is the amount of additional features that were present for the cost of the tablet. The storage capacity of 16GB is more than adequate for my needs. I am primarily storing books on the device and at present I have approximately 25 and just remove novels as and when I have finished reading them. The quality of the display is, in my opinion very good and allows me to watch streamed television shows in excellent quality. I find the interface simple and straightforward and the device is easy to learn to use. Overall, I am impressed with the Kindle HD Fire but if I could make improvements, I would like the charge to last a little longer. Naturally, it goes through its charge fair quicker than a standard Kindle E-reader due to the extent of the functionality available. Further, whilst the screen brightness can either be adjusted manually or automatically, I found it difficult to read a novel in bright sunlight on holiday no matter what the screen was adjusted to. Still, that has not deterred from the overall package and family have since purchased themselves a Kindle Fire HD from my recommendation.

Great gadget, if its the only gadget you have in the house!

So as a gadget obsessive, in my list of things I have purchased to try out but the novelty has worn off... I add the Kindle Fire HD. My mother came into some money (a PPI Insurance refund a LOT LOT higher than she would of ever imagined), after walking around my bedroom when I was showing her my new decor, she literally just said "I am giving you £1000 what would you like to buy towards the house or yourself?" The conditions being she ordered everything. So I picked some lovely furniture, and then when shopping with my mum and dad in Currys and giving them advice on a laptop purchase she said she was interested in a Kindle Fire HD. I perked up and said how much I had always wanted one, so after persuasion she offered to buy me one as part of my "outstanding allowance". We tried but they had none instock, but then informed us PC world (partner company) DID have the stock. They were successfully purchased. On opening the box, I was immediately in love with my new shiny Kindle Fire HD. I downloaded all the apps I love to use - Facebook, Twitter, Ebay amongst a few. To cut a long story short, I played with it lots for a week or two. Then I got bored, I can do everything I do daily, in the same way on my Samsung Galaxy S4 albeit a smaller screen. It now sits on a shelf mostly unloved and unused. I will pick it up if my laptop is dead or I am laid in bed. I haven't really picked up on using books yet but hope to in the future. However my nearly 5 year old does enjoy educational apps and sometimes the makeover apps too on the Kindle, my nearly 2 son is also enjoying a few train and dinosaur themed apps. So it really isn't THAT unloved... Hey even the hubby used it for a few weeks on driving games. Maybe I should come off the laptop and put the Kindle Fire HD to more use? Living in a family of 5 - Husband a IT Supervisior incharge of over 100 machines and several servers. 13 year old son who is just as geeky and into his computers, software and gaming and younger children who are headed the same way, its needless to say we have TOO much technology in the house. We do however enjoy spending lots of time baking, cooking from scratch, painting, drawing and exploring with our children <3

I think there have to be some software changes made on the Kindle Fire HD.

In general, I like my Kindle Fire HD. But the software is rather awkward and there are some other things which should be fixed. At first something good: It's absolutely great that you can read on your kindle, then pickup your iphone some time later and the app syncs exactly to where one has stopped reading. The battery life is similar as the one of the original kindle. However, I do not really like it that there was no wall charger included with the new Fire HD. (The charger from the old kindle works!) But as an alternative I purchased the high-speed charger for the Kindle and would recommend that you purchase it, too (works nice). What I don't understand is why the accessible storage memory is limited to just 5GB. To me it seems extremely small if you are using your Kindle for videos and so on. In general, the interface of the whole system is just a little awkward and seems unfinished. Sometimes the back button doesn't work, buttons are hard to push accurately or launch the wrong function. I hope this will be fixed. When browsing in landscape mode, it's annoying that almost half the screen is taken up by menu bars. Sometimes, they just pop up randomly while you are reading, and the navigation of Newsstand content like the New York Times is incredibly awkward. This is really bad if you are reading a book. Another rather bad aspect is the camera. I've used several cell phones which got a better one. But I think the camera is not the reason to buy this product.

        brilliant e-reader and more

I got a kindle fire HD for Christmas last year off my husband. Now I had always been sceptical about e-readers as I'm one of those people who love the feel of a book and seeing how far through the book I am. However after getting the kindle fire HD it was like I unlocked my own personal library. Every book I could ever want and more were a finger touch away and some books were even free! I couldn't believe it I'd been turned into and e-reader lover. On top of that I could play games and music just like a regular tablet so I could play some of my favourite games like angry birds and candy crush as well as read some of my favourite books and find new ones that I would begin to love. The graphics are brilliant and the screen is big enough to read off but too big that you feel a line goes on forever. You can turn the brightness up and down to suit your own reading style and there is even a bookmark that marks your page for you so you don't have to find where you last left off. Absolutely brilliant I love mine

        Overall the best tablet around!!!

I previously owned the first edition kindle, and upon seeing the advertisements for the kindle fire hd I decided to purchase one for myself. I purchased it for £159 at the time but since the release of the kindle fire hdx iv seen some for as little as £119. Im an avid reader, so a kindle is perfect for me, as the books are so much cheaper than if you were to purchase them in shops. Iv found topsellers for as little as 20p!! The 7inch screen is a very fair size, the same as a book I would say. Taking no time to get used to when crossing over from a normal book. The lcd screen is completely touchscreen, this function makes it very easy for all users to work. Its very light and durable weighing just 345 grams! Amazon states that the display is '20 times stiffer and 30 times harder than plastic', allowing children to use without the constant worry of breakage. The backlight is adjustable to allow bed time reading, also preserving battery life. The battery life on the kindle is one of the best iv seen around, with claims that it lasts in some instances upto 11 hours. Its rivals such as ipad, nexus and galaxy tab only lasting between 8-9 hours. The kindle has a full battery charge time of 4 hours, however it will charge whilst in use. The only disadvantage iv found with this is that you have to purchase a separate high speed charger, which cost me an extra £20. Which I don't believe you have to do with any of the others. Otherwise they give you a usb cable with the kindle, but in my opinion takes lightyears to charge!! Unlike the first edition kindles, on the kindle fire you can install apps, and games. There very easy and quick to download. Upon signing up to the app store it will allow you to insert and store your card details for any future purchases made. The app store contains many games and books that are free to purchase, however it operates on a one click purchase system!!! Which as im sure you are all aware this can be money drainer. Especially is young children get their hands on it. So I would highly recommend that you set up the parental controls to prevent any mass purchase buying. Amazon will email you a confirmation everytime that you make a purchase which iv found very useful. You can watch your films, (using a Netflix app or any other account you access), catch up with programs, listen to music, or audio books with the Dolby Audio Dual Stereo Speakers. These give a great surround sound effect for such a small machine. The kindle fire has a front facing camera, however they do not have any camera software installed which I found very strange!! You can download this from the app store though, at cost or there is free apps. I downloaded a free app, and purchased one at around 69p I believe and they both do the same job. With the camera you can take and store many pictures on your kindle. Also you can use Skype, once the app is downloaded. Free with the kindle you get a free months trial of amazon prime, which entitles you to one free amazon book a month, from the 'kindle owners lending library'. This is means for one month you get next day delivery on all items purchased from amazon, which is a bonus!! Also you receive free unlimited cloud storage, for all your downloads from amazon. In addition you will get 5gb free storage for all your pictures, videos and digital files. To summarise I think that the kindle fire hd has a lot more to offer than any of its rival tablets and e-readers. From the battery life to the durability. All the features are far superior in my eyes than any other. For anyone who doesn't have one they really are a must buy. For only £119, your getting the best tablet and e-reader all in one. 10/10. Hope you've found this review helpful

A great device if you want both an e-reader and tablet in one!

I have always been sceptical over the E-Readers and Kindle's on the market as I love the feeling of having a book in my hand - the smell, the texture and seeing how far you are through etc. Therefore, I was overly eager to get a Kindle. I was then given one as a present on my last birthday as I had asked for a tablet and was given the Kindle Fire HD 7". I figured (not ungratefully) I would probably use it more as a tablet than as an e-reader but I have been proven wrong! I am a convert! The Kindle Fire HD is a lovely little tablet. With a 7" screen its not a big as the Ipads of this world, but not too small that you can't easily browse the net or watch a film on it. Like an Ipad you can download countless apps, sync it to your email and facebook accounts, Skype and play games all along with it being an e-reader. Specification wise it has a 7" screen with a 1200 x 800 res, Dueal Core processor, Duel Stereo Speakers and has around 10 hours use. At just 345 grams its light enough to easily hold in one hand, and measures 191 x 128 mm. Priced at around £139 for the tablet from Amazon the Fire is a nicely priced tablet and one of the cheaper ones on the market compared to the Ipad's. However, cheaper does not mean the quality is lower, in fact the Fire feels solid and of great quality and reliability! The screen is sharp and has vivid colours, the sound is clear and the operating software is quick and bug free. It connect to the internet via Wifi and loads up pages quickly. It can hold countless book, apps and photos without it slowing the tablet down. The app store has a lot of choice - not quite as much as Apple but still a decent selection, however the majority of good apps are chargeable and are more expensive the Apple's App store. As an e-reader you can personalise the page colour, writing and text size and how the book appears as a whole meaning you can customise it to your needs. The brightness of the screen can also be changed easily making the Kindle Fire easy to read in both daylight and a night. The battery life is great and mine will last days and days before needing a charge. Although I find to charge the battery does take a while. I love my Kindle Fire so much! The Kindle makes reading easy, is smaller and lighter than a lot of books, easy to take with you and great for holidays if you are a big reader like me - 1 little tablet as opposed to 3/4 heavy books in a suitcase! A little tip is to also keep an eye out for the free books such as the old classics like Wuthering Heights etc as these are always free and great as part of your collections.

            great except for the camera

Having never owned any type of e reader or tablet before I wasn't sure whether I was going to love or hate the kindle fire HD, after getting used to how the device works I absolutely love it! I have now all but replaced my netbook with the kindle. I use it for web browsing, reading, playing games and listening to music. The only downside I would say would be the quality of the camera and that the camera is on the screen side which is OK for taking a picture of yourself but if you are trying to take a picture of something else and are pointing the screen away from you it is very difficult to get a good picture as you cannot see the screen so you do not know what the picture will be like until you have taken it. However if you already have a good quality camera and want the kindle fire hd for its other functions I would suggest you go out and get one now!

Does the job and more at a reasonable price

I bought this as a present for myself from myself. I enjoy reading books and can get through many on holiday, so rather than lugging loads of books with me I though I would buy myself a kindle. I did look at the other kindle e-readers but though for abit extra I could have a colour screen, hd graphics and access to the internet. Out the box the kindle has some battery power but as we are always advised put it on charge, the downside is that the kindle only comes with a usb cord, you have a few options - plug it in your computer usb, buy an adapter for the wall, use another micro usb chrager with wall adapter (my samsung phone uses one). Although I didnt time it the kindle takes a fair while to fully charge its more than a 2 hour job. The battery however last for hours and I means hours on the internet. There are so many different features on the kindle that I couldn't name them all but I shall talk about what I use it for. When I don't have access to wi-fi I do read books and play games that dont require the internet, its easy to carry about and not bulky, one of the first things I did after I bought my kindle was buy a cover for it, these can be expensive depending where you buy it from so factor this in. When I use my kindle at home I access the internet mainly checking facebook, ebay, googling and just general surfing. I have found the speed that pages load up fine for me a few (and I mean very few) times it has kicked me off the internet when playing games. My laptop now hardly ever gets uses as its much quicker to just use the kindle. There is a good range of gamesw for the kindle not as many as from the apple store but still enough to please everyone, each day there is a free app of the day which is a bonus. There is also a huge number of books avaliable some of the classics are even free there are also special offer books which are £1. A really good feature is that if you like the looks of a book but dont want to commit to buy it you can download a free sample of the book (usually about a chapter) to see if you like it. A slight draw back is that you need access to the internet to download books so it pays to be organised if you know you are going away. Whilst away on holiday I was reading outside in the bright sun, I did find itdifficult to read the text even though you can change the colour and brightness of the screen but then again how often do we get bright sun in the u.k I know that you can watch tv on the kindle and listen to music but I havent personally done either, the sound quality on games is excellent very clear and not tinny even when turned up loud. The main thing that lets the kindle down is the camera, ok so it can be used for video calls but it would have been better to have a forward facing camera too. Good if you want to take selfies but not good if you want to take a picture of anything infront of you. I have never used another tablet so cannot compare it to others but for the price I think it is excellent value for money

              generally an excellent product!!

I recieved this product as a chritmas present. I was mainly after an e-reader. In this function the knidle is excellent, easy to use and very easy and quick to order books. Sometimes its a little to easy as I seem to be spending lots of extra money on books!!! However the kindle is so much more than an ereader. It also allows you to surf the internet and the connection is very fast. It has an excellent camera and you can also watch films from love film. What I also love about the kiindle fire is its size. Its small and thin so easily fits into my bag. The only negatives I would say is with regards to apps. I find that compaired with the apple amazon do not have such a great range-esp with regards to childrens apps. Also I find it difficult to charge. The kindle only comes with a computer charger and in my opinion it takes a long time to charge. If you want to read at the same time as charging it takes even longer. That being said I am overall very happy with this purchase.

                A definite good buy

This was a bit of an impulse buy, I wanted an e-reader but also the thought of a tablet appealed to me. Looking around the shops, everyone seemed to be crowding around the Samsung tablets, particularly the Note, but didn't feel able to justify the cost. I looked at the standard Kindles and didn't feel this would be enough either. I therefore felt I was buying a happy medium in the Kindle Fire HD and I love it! It has everything I need in terms of being an e-reader, a web browser, it has apps. Just what I want. It is light and sturdy (I have bought a cover and screen protector for it) and fits easily in my handbag so I can read wherever, whenever. It was easy to set up and start downloading via Amazon as the instructions are really concise. I am particularly impressed with the screen quality. I had not really had much experience of HD before this, but would say it's definitely worth it. My only complaint is that is does not come with a mains charger. You receive a USB cable to charge it via a laptop, but it states that charging this way is slow, and yes it is SLOW. Even more annoying, therefore, it that the 'official' mains charger has to be purchased separately at a cost of £17.99 (now £12.99). It's also worth commenting that the books seem more expensive than they used to be, though this would not have affected my purchase. All in all, I have certainly not regretted this purchase and glad I chose it over a more expensive tablet.
