There are a few tools that are solely the preserve of the manly man. A screwdriver is one of them. Add the words fat max to it, and you can have a teenaged boy in fits of hysterical Finbarr Saunder-esque laughter. No matter, because this particular Stanley tool is one that rights cupboard doors and fixes handles. It screws sidings to garages and drives screws into rawl plugs, all with ease, for it is the Screwdriver Of Fate!
Stanley is a make most people will be aware of for their range of cutting blades. They do a much wider range of tools, most of which are characterised by being well engineered and finished. This is no exception. Everything is designed just so. It has a large, wide handle. Nothing is quite as frustrating as trying to force a screw with a narrow handled screwdriver. A wider handle derives greater torque when turning and a soft grip handle means less pain while you're doing it.
The handle is moulded direct to the vanadium steel bar, making separating the two an almost impossible eventuality. For easier times, the domed head can be rotated quickly to speed up the process. I've used this in conjunction with a cheap Philips head screwdriver from Homebase, and the difference between the two is incredible.
Stanley also do an insulated version, which will be of immediate interest to anyone working with electrical fittings. I steer well clear, myself. Six quid for a screwdriver might seem like a lot, but the ease of use, durability and general design makes it cheap. No strained wrist or painful hands with this one, at least, less in the way of both. A good buy.
If you really want to, you can buy a whole set. It is unlimately cheaper than buying one by one, but all you really need is a standard screwdriver and a Philips.
