For my birthday last year one of the gifts I received was a hand care kit from The Body Shop, one of the items I proceed to purchase after finishing from the set was this Hemp hand wash. It costs £5 for a 250ml bottle. It is available from an Body Shop store, or from their website. They often have offers and discounts running which may mean you can get it a little cheaper.
The hand wash comes in quite a tall, thin bottle with a pump top for easy application to your hands.. The labelling is green and brown, and the bottle is clear enough for you to see how much soap is remaining - very handy!
To use the soap you simply depress the pump to squirt some onto your hands, one pump is usually enough, lather up with warm water and then rinse thoroughly. The soap lathers up more than I was expecting it to, and has a rich but gentle foam. The hand wash is a pale creamy colour and relatively thick for a hand wash. The scent is one I find difficult to describe, and is quite unique to the hemp range, it's a slightly earth smells, and although not something I would choose to wear as a perfume it is pleasant. After rinsing my hands always feel much softer than the were before washing. The scent lingers on your skin for some time but isn't overpowering.
The Body Shop recommend that this hand wash is used as part of a skincare regime using their other hemp products, however I put the bottle in my bathroom and used it whenever I would have normally washed my hands. I do use some of their other hemp hand care range, however I don't feel that you need one to use the other.
I have to wash my hands a lot for work and find that the are usually very dry, and suffer a lot for it. Although I'm not able to use this soap at work, I have found that it helped to prevent my hands from drying out even more when washing them at home. Along with a good hand cream it makes a noticeable difference and prevents your hands from becomes too dry from washing with very harsh chemicals that you may find in other soaps and hand washes. The website states that the hand wash provides 24 hour hydration which I don't agree with - how many people can go 24 hours without doing the washing up or using something which would take the soap off their hands? Not a practical or believable statement in my eyes, however I do feel the soap hydrates our hands for reasonably longer than cheaper, or harsher versions. I found the hand wash lasted around a month in m bathroom with frequent use.
The hand wash is dermatological tested and soap free. There are quite a few chemicals in the ingredients list, however I struggle to find products without a lot now. The ingredients are:
(Solvent/Diluent), Brassica Campestris Seed Oil (Emollient), Sodium Trideceth Sulfate (Surfactant), Sodium Chloride (Viscosity Modifier), Sodium Lauroamphoacetate (Surfactant - Cleansing Agent), Cocamide MEA (Surfactant), Parfum (Fragrance), Citric Acid (pH Adjuster), Phenoxyethanol (Preservative), Bertholletia Excelsa Seed Oil (Emollient), Methyl Gluceth-20 (Viscosity Modifier), Glycine Soja Oil (Emollient/Skin Conditioner), Sodium Benzoate (Preservative), Tetrasodium Glutamate Diacetate (Chelating Agent), Mel (Natural Additive), Cyanopsis Tetragonoloba Gum (Binder/Viscosity Modifier), Guar Hydroxypropyltrimonium Chloride (Hair Conditioning Agent), Tocopheryl Acetate (Antioxidant), Potassium Sorbate (Preservative), Cannabis Sativa Seed Oil (Skin-Conditioning Agent), Tocopherol (Antioxidant), CI 19140 (Colour), CI 42090 (Colour).
Overall, this is a good quality hand wash that lasts a qhile and moisurises well. It is quite pricey, but works well and is worth it if you would like a hydrating hand wash. The smell won't be for everyone, but it does grow on you the more you use it. I'm going to give it 4 stars, as the price is on the high side and I find it a bit steep for a hand wash - other than that it's great!
I'm a big fan of The Body Shop's range of Hemp skincare products and I decided to buy this to try when there was a recent 50% sale on.
It retails at £5.00 for a 250ml bottle which considering the quality is a reasonable price in my opinion and as I only need a small amount each time I wash my hands a bottle will last for quite a while. The hand wash is suitable for all skin types but as it's quite a rich and intense moisturiser it's best suited to very dry skin.
The Body Shop state that it provides 24 hour hydration which is a pretty big claim, but it actually does! It contains hemp seed oil and is soap free, meaning that it doesn't make my eczema on my wrist any worse if it comes into contact with it. None of the ingredients in it have been tested on animals which is a big advantage and it has been dermatologically tested. The hand wash comes in a medium sized 250ml bottle and as far as I know this is the only size available.
The bottle is made from sturdy plastic and the creamy white product is visible. The bottle has a label on the front and back of it which are the usual green and black Hemp colour scheme and there's information such as the brand & product name, a brief product description and a full list of ingredients written clearly on it. The bottle has a pump which can be unscrewed as well so you have the option of squeezing a blob out or using the pump.
I find the pump more practical though and although it's very small it's sturdy, easy to use and never gets jammed. The product can tend to block the dispenser hole up and dry/go tacky if I press the pump too hard but as long as I give it a quick rinse it's fine. The product itself is a thick, creamy lotion. The consistency is nice and smooth and it spreads over my skin easily without blobbing up. It lathers well and leaves my hands feeling instantly softer and well cared for as well as squeaky clean.
It washes off easily as it doesn't stick to my skin and there's no residue or greasy feeling left behind. The smell, which is the usual herbal Hemp scent lingers for a few minutes and quickly fades. The smell is okay - it took me a little while to get used to but it's not overpowering or anything. I tend to get dry patches inbetween my fingers and this has really helped soften them and reduce the dryness. After using it my hands feel soft all day and it definitely lives up to the 24 hour moisturising claim.
Overall I give this product five out of five stars and highly recommend it.
This hand wash is ideal for people who suffer from dry and/ or cracked hands.
The hand wash comes in a pump dispenser, you simply press down on the pump to release the handwash. The pump just dispenses the right amount of handwash so you won't waste any. The consistency of the handwash is quite thick and creamy. It's 250ml in size so it will last you a while. A good thing about the handwash is that it doesn't irritate the hands if it is used on sore and/ or broken skin. I tend to bite the skin around my fingers (nails) and if this handwash happens to get into the cuts it doesn't irritate them or make them any worse. In fact it soothes them and the Hemp speeds up the healing process of the skin too.
The handwash leaves my hands feeling soft, smooth and supple. It protects them from the elements and it provides instant moisturisation. The handwash can be used at any time of the day, although I like to give my hands a good wash in this before I go to bed. The moisturising properties of the handwash continue throughout the night so I wake up to gorgeous soft skin in the morning. The handwash is said to provide 24-hour hydration and it is 100% soap free, so it's ideal for sensitive skin.
I would recommend this handwash. It smells great and it gets to work on sore hands.
I have a Body Shop card that entitles me to a free reward worth £5 every so often. I love browsing in the store and found it quite hard deciding what to spend my reward on. I am a huge fan of the hemp range, as it has helped me through a really difficult time in my life sincce I decided to stop using steroid creams to treat my eczema. The hemp hand cream and lip protector have been fantastic and I am constantly on the lookout for new products in the range that I haven't tried before. Whilst browsing I noticed this hemp moisturising hand wash. I think it must be quite new as I hadn't seen it before and as it was £5 I decided to cash in my reward and get it.
One of the reasons that I bought the handwash was because the skin on my hands can get quite dry and regular soaps can strip the skin of natural oils. My husband has always done manual work, which means that the skin on his hands gets very dry and cracked, sometimes with deep, painful cracks forming. Therefore, I thought that this soap-free handwash would be ideal for both of us.
The handwash comes in a tall narrow bottle, which contains 250ml of product. I estimate that a bottle would last about a month in our house, maybe a little less, as you do not need to use much product to get a good lather. The bottle is clear, so you can see the handwash inside which is a light green colour. The scent is very similar to other items in the hemp range and reminds me of cut, dried grass or hay. It is not a smell that is to everyone's taste and is perhaps more masculine than feminine. Children would not like the scent, and I don't let the kids use this soap!
The bottle has a pump lid which is quite good at giving control over the amount that you want depending on the amount of pressure you apply. I also like the fact that the lid does not drip. I find that only a very small amount of handwash is needed. As this is a soap free product, it feels very different to your average hand soap. The product feels creamy, viscous and slippery as you apply it to the hands and has a similar consistency to hand cream. As you add water and rub your hands together, the handwash lathers to a creamy foam, giving a good coverage over the hands. After patting the hands dry with a towel, my hands feel noticeable softer, as if I had applied a light layer of cream. The scent is quite light and not overpowering and does tend to fade from the hands after a few minutes.
I have been using the handwash several times a day for almost a week and I have definitely noticed a difference. My hands feel soft and protected and this certainly feels like a luxury, premium product.
In fact I only have one gripe with this product and that is price. I know it is great stuff, but can I really justify paying £5 for a bottle, when a regular bottle of handwash from the supermarket only costs £1? The answer is no, and this is not a product that I plan to buy regularly. As a busy mom, I wash my hands lots of times in a day and I would have to replenish the bottle quite regularly, which would cost me a pretty penny. In my opinion, the product is worth about £3 and if I see it on offer I will have to stock up on it then.
The handwash contains lots of lovely ingredients, such as hemp of course, which is rich in omega oils. It also contains rapeseed oil. The hempseed oil is fairtrade, which means that the farmers get a fair price for their crop.
I love this handwash and the way it makes my hands feel, but I am going to be a bit of a meanie and deduct a star for the high price, which I think is too much to pay for a bottle of hand wash.
-- Reasons for buying --
As being a hairdresser my hands tend to get extremely dry and cracked from all the constant use of water and chemicals. I had already bought the hand cream from this range and my hands really benefit from it so I decided to give this a try.
-- Packaging --
The hand wash comes in a transparent bottle, with a push down dispenser. It show the usual body shop logo upon a green and brown sticky label. The consistency of the white hand wash is very creamy and moisturising. The hand wash is soap free so instead of drying out your hands, it cleanses your hands whilst moisturising them. It states that it provides 24 hour hydration and is for very dry skin.
-- Applying the product --
This product is very simple to apply, I tend to wash my hands multiple times a day and so in turn they get very dry especially with all the chemicals I use. I simply use a pea sized amount on wet hands and massaged it in until completely satisfied my hands are clean. You can feel from the consistency of the product, that it is very moisturising.
-- Pros and Cons --
This product is definitely moisturising and really does keep my hands from getting dry. My hands are very silky smooth and soft. It works great along side the hemp hand moisturiser which I usually use at the end of the day after cleansing my hands to give my hands a little extra treat. My hands look and feel in so much better condition than before I started using the hemp products and I am very pleased with the results. The only downside for me is that they only offer one size and it would be great if I was able to take a travel sized product into college with me, rather than using there cheap hand washes.
-- Price and Availability --
This product is available in all Body Shop stores and also online. There is only a 250ml size available, which is £5. The price is definitely worth it as the product is of high quality and quantity.
-- Conclusion --
I would definitely recommend this product to all hairdressers or beauticians and to anyone who has very dry skin. This definitely benefited me using alongside the hemp hand cream.
Appearance and Aim.
This Hemp Moisturising Hand Wash comes in a pum action 250ml plastic bottle. The bottle itself is see through which allows us to see the product colour, in this case it is white and looks more like lotion than hand wash. The labels are very subtle compared to their other ranges, the full hemp collection is the same type of packaging and this is a calming green and yellow colour. On the label it states the brand, product name and how to use it, this is printed in two different languages with English at the top and I believe the other to be French which is directly beneath it. This product is specifically designed for really dry hands and this can include cracked damaged skin. This hand wash is supposed to moisturize and soften the skin which will help to repair damaged areas, this product is soap free because soap dries your skin out.
Rub, Rub, Rubbing.
I like to wash my hands often, when I get up first thing in the morning, after brushing my teeth, before eating, before bed and to be honest most of the time. When I started using this I never had really dry skin on my hands but they weren't particaularly soft ether because I had been doing a lot of decorating and scraping the walls, so dampening my hands I squeezed the dispenser down and it released a grape sized portion into my hands. The dispenser was very easy to push down I never had any problems with it the wash itself still looked like lotion in my hand although it looked creamy and had a good thick consistancy to it. You can smell the fairly strong aroma of hemp at the first pump of this which is really hard to describe but it is a relaxing lovely smell, not one I'd rave about or that I think it gorgeous but it a pleasent smell and one I can live with.
Rubbing my hands together this lathered up almost instantly creating bubbly and the texture of it was very creamy and soft against my skin, when washing away it was removed staright away without me having to rub them. Patting my hands dry I could smell the hemp on my hands but only slightly which was nice and my skin was lovely and soft. I felt like I didn't need to wash my hands as often as I had been doing except for certain times such as eating. The smell did drift off my hands over the course of the day but this didn't bother me at all. After using this for around a week I noticed my hands were soft and smooth all the time and I had to wash them even less and they would still saty soft and nice there was no hint of me ever doing any harsh decorating excet for the difference in the house But because of my much needed frequant hand washing this didn't last me too long, it lasted just over 2 weeks but I have been very pleased with this product and bought it a number of times.
Ingredients, Price and Availability
There are a select key ingredients in the Hemp Moisturising Hand Wash: Hemp seed oil, honey, brazil nutoil and soya oil these are all high quality fair trade ingredients and this are what makes the aroma and has the softening and moisturising effects. There is a massive list of ingredients in this which I'm not going to repeat but please beware this does has Brazil nut oil in it so if you are allergic to nuts please be careful. This Hemp Moisturising Hand Wash is only £5 in store at the body shop or on the website, if you order from the website the postage is £2.99 and you can order it using the product code - 88790
