      Advantages

      Disadvantages

Too strong a fragrance for me.

I seem to have an on going battle with dry hands at the moment and have been desperately searching for an inexpensive hand cream to help combat this problem.
During my search I came across Botanics Overnight Hand and Nail Cream.

The cream comes in a clear plastic 100ml tube with green label, is part of Boots Botanics range and retails at £3.49 per tube. The packaging states that the hand cream is 'packed with rich oils to deeply condition hands and nails', containing grapeseed oil to intensly hydrate and honey to add moisture. As the title suggests the product is designed to be applied to hands and nails before going to bed, you are advised to apply liberally and massage into hands and nails. The product comes in a recyclable packaging, has been dermatalogically tested and should be used within 2 years of opening the tube.

There is a warning on the packaging which says that the product contains alpha hydroxy acid that may increase your skins sensitivity to the sun. You are advised to use a sun screen and limit your exposure to the sun for a week after the use of this product. A point well worth bearing in mind if you are venturing out in the sun (at this time of year I guess frost bite with be more a problem for most of us than sun burn but thought it best to mention the risks).

The cream itself is a light grey colour with a purple tint and is of a good consistency which absorbs easily into your skin. The fragrance of the cream is a very strong lavender scent. The scent for me a far too strong, it is a very strong pungent smell quite overpowering. My husband hates the smell too and has now after tolerating the smell for several weeks banned me from using the product completely.

Smell aside the cream does do its job, after a few weeks of regular use my hands did show some signs of improvement, they were not exactly what you would call baby soft but no where near as dry and weather beaten as before I started using the product.

Overall though for me this cream is not one I would buy again, yes it is reasonably priced and has improved the condition of my hands for me the smell was a little too much and for that reason I would not purchase this product again. Unless you are a real lover of 'lavender' I would advise giving this one a miss.

My search for the perfect hand cream goes on...

A beautiful hand cream best used in the Winter.

I've always been fond of the Boots Botanics range and I was given this as a gift at Christmas.

I usually have soft hands most of the time. I put hand cream on them every night and I have done for years. A few Winters ago I had sore cracked hands due to the cold weather when I was out in it a lot. I used this hand cream and noticed the difference immediately. I applied it generously and left it overnight. Within about two weeks I found that my hands were back to their normal soft state. Since then, I use it every year from October to February or longer depending on the weather.

It smells lovely and is quite strong. It is a relaxing sort of smell that makes you want to drift off to sleep. It does contain oils but I wouldn't say it is greasy. It's best to use it sparingly and then add more if you feel you need it.

Wake up to nourished hands and nails!

I really do love Boots stores and one of the ranges I do really like in store is Boots Botanics products. I have tried out a few of these products over the years and to be honest they have been hit and miss but I do persevere with them cos when they get a product right...they really do and me, I love the idea of using products that are as natural as they can possibly be on my skin!

        The Packaging:

100ml see-through tube that has a flip top opening to the bottom of it concealing a small hole. There is an olive green label that goes around the most part of the body of the tube and on the front of that I'm told it is Body Botanics, The Power Of Plants, Overnight Hand & Nail Treatment 'With skin smoothing, cell renewing Bilberry and relaxing Lavender. Hydrates hands and nourishes nail and cuticles'. On the back of the tube I'm told a bit about the product, directions for use and ingredients are listed, the size is stated (as I've told you already) and contact details for Boots are given.

A Bit About The Product According To The Back Of The Tube:

If plant extracts are pure enough and at the right levels they can provide significant health and beauty benefits. Botanics formulations use the purest extracts at levels that really work.

        Benefits:

Overnight Hand And Nail Treatment hydrates, softens and nourishes. Selected oils boost the skin's natural defence barrier and hydroxy acids help smooth and moisturise, leaving your hands and nails soft and smooth.

        Directions For Use:

Apply to your hands before you go to bed, paying particular attention to your cuticles. Go to sleep and let Botanics do the rest.

        Me Using It:

All you need of this light lilac, rich and thick cream is a small blob and I simply apply this to freshly washed hands. A little of this goes a very long way indeed as it feels really greasy and thick when applying it. It has no fragrance to it really and it massages into skin easy enough but does take about 2 minutes to completely sink into the skin and even when it does it gives off a fake looking gloss to the hands and a fake feeling of softness and this is why you apply this before you go to sleep so it doesn't bother you so much!

        Verdict:

Applying it is simple and straightforward enough though I'm not keen on that fake softness it gives when applied I am happy to use this before I no longer need to use my hands for anything and I'm simply going to sleep anyway!

Overnight though this seems to deeply hydrate and nourish my hands and nails. It sinks into the skin over the hours it's on leaving no residue and by the time you wake up you simply wake up with really soft and supple skin. My nails look glossed and healthy and over time using this I have noticed that my cuticles are softer and easier to remove when the time comes.

All in all this is a great hand treatment that's easy to fit into a night-time regime and I like the way the skin on my hands looks more elasticity and healthy and I certainly don't have dried out and/or prune like hands over the Christmas season. Recommended from me!

Only available in Boots stores priced at about a fiver a tube!
