A very disappointing nail product from Avon

For the past twenty years or so, I've possessed long and beautifully manicured nails, which were always strong and healthy. However, during a long period of ill health last year I found that my nails became very brittle and flaky and as a result, they would easily peel and snap. Consequently, I needed to seek out a product that was easy to use as well as being effective and I decided upon Avon's Nail Experts Peeling and Brittleness Solver and this review discusses my experience with using it.

We are presented with 12 ml of product, which is contained within a transparent glass bottle identical to that of a nail polish. Whilst the bottle was presented in a box, there were no directions for use other than for the familiar recycling symbol together with the image informing us that the product should be used within 24 months of opening. What I found rather bizarre is that the inside of the box displayed a considerable amount of miniscule text, so believing the information to be the directions for use I had to carefully cut the box open.

I found this really frustrating, particularly as I had intended to keep the box for neatly storing the bottle. The information printed around the entire inside of the box was provided in a multitude of languages with the only English text informing us that the product helps nails to grow longer and stronger in 14 days and that eye contact should be avoided. I must admit that I'm not generally a fan of Avon products, as I have had so many disappointments over the years with products that have failed to meet their claims in addition to the fact that the brand is notorious for providing insufficient or no directions for use.

Careful consideration has clearly been given to the design of the lid where it offers an oblong shape, which allows it to be removed with great ease. I anticipated this to be extremely useful, as after a couple of months of using, these style of products, particularly those with a cylinder shaped lid, become a little messy with dried product, which makes them difficult to open. The brush is of a good size and I found that two strokes effectively covered each nail, as the soft bristles were sufficiently coated. The solver is identical to nail polish with both its consistency and aroma and one dip of the brush was sufficient for the fingernails of each hand. Whilst the solver gave off a pale blue appearance in the bottle, it initially offered a clear glossy and healthy effect on the nails and dried within just a few minutes of application. However, in less than two hours I noticed that the solver was peeling away from sections of my nails and I was able to place the edge of my nail underneath and easily remove the remainder.

Whilst I was pretty confident that my nails were grease and oil free prior to application, the results placed an element of doubt in my mind and I decided to reapply after carefully washing and drying my hands. However, the results were identical despite me not using any harsh chemicals or placing my hands in water for a long period of time. I would argue with Avon's claim that this product can actually resolve brittleness and peeling, particularly as the solver peels itself! I tried the solver again by adding a thin layer of top coat, but can't admit to being satisfied with this approach. As a result, I relied solely on a specifically designed hand cream, which was also suitable for strengthening nails.

For the reasons discussed above, I cannot recommend Avon Nail Experts Peeling and Brittle Solver, which receives only one star from me. At the time of writing it can be purchased for £5 either from a representative or online or you can purchase three products from the Nail Experts range for £6.

I hope you found my review useful and thanks for reading.

My nails have always peeled and I have tried many products to try and stop this, including expensive Sally Hansen products. I tried this product due to the price. It cost about £5. The first time I used it I put one coat on; the following day it began to peel off! Last night I decided to have another go so added three coats this time. 24 hours later it has began to peel off yet again, I give up with this product.

A versatile product from Avon to prevent peeling and brittle nails

Some of you may be aware that I started working for Avon but I had to recently give it up because of having absolutely no time in which to fully dedicate to it. But for the period I did work for them I have found some excellent products in their range and this is one of them.

I used to have a terrible habit of biting my nails, then somebody suggested to me to have acrylics put on them to prevent me biting them. I had the acrylics put on and it did stop me biting and my nails grew incredibly long underneath the acrylics. Then I had the acrylics taken off and my nails were pretty strong which was quite surprising however, the one thing I constantly battle with is my nails peeling. Whatever nail varnish I put on, it comes off because of the edge of my nails easily chip and peel. So I tried this product from Avon, the peeling and brittleness solver about a month ago and it has completely solved this problem.

Retail Price and How to Get Hold of
        ----------------------------------------------
Well it retails for £5.00 for 12ml but as most of us know Avon constantly has offers on all of their products, currently on their website this product is under the offer of 4 for £10.00 which is a fantastic offer alongside other nail products. I got this product half price from the brochure. If you do not have an Avon rep then you can purchase online but if you do have an Avon rep in your area you can order from brochures every 3 weeks. If the products you would like are not on offer in the brochure you are given wait for the next brochure. It is mad to pay full price for anything from Avon because of their number of offers.

I was disappointed to see on the Avon website the number of negative reviews on this product because I found it to be fantastic, but each to their own!

        -------------------------------------
So How To Use This Product?
        -------------------------------------
So basically instructions for this product are minimal and nothing is stated on the bottle or box that it comes in. I have used it either alone using just one or two coats or as a base to my nail varnish, either works superbly.

It comes out as an invisible colour but with a light shine which is really nice if you are not wearing nail varnish over the top. It also dries extremely quickly, one coats dries in 30 seconds and the second coat is another 30 seconds.

I tend to use this product once a week and in one month of use so about 4 uses altogether I'd say I have used a fifth of the bottle. So I am guessing that this bottle will last me about 5 months in all which isn't too bad looking at the price. My mum uses the Sally Hansen version which I have also trialled and compared to this one. The Sally Hansen one does work but in my opinion it is no better than this product and I know the Sally Hansen one is quite pricey compared to this one.

A bargain solution to peeling and brittle nails. It is a great alternative to a nail base or to add shine to the nails whilst also treating them. Add this to your Avon order!!
