I work part time as an Avon Representative when my poor health allows, which allows me great access to the assortment of ranges of skincare and beauty items within the Avon brand. I had tried out some of the items from the "Avon Care" range in the past and was suitably impressed, so I was intrigued to note a hand wash item being added to the range a while back. It was really only a matter of time before I tried out the Avon Care Gentle Hand Wash, with this review outlining my experiences of using the product.
The bottle is a generous 200ml in size and has an attractive appearance, thanks to its 'magnolia' coloured plastic and tall, slender shape. There is an attractive label on the front of the bottle that fits in with the rest of the Avon Care range overall, and this label gives the description "With chamomile and oat extracts" which again, allows the Gentle Hand Wash to fit neatly into the Avon Care brand overall, as most of the other products that I have tried from the same range have contained these two ingredients too. The normal purchase price for the 200ml bottle is £2.50 which I think is reasonable value but perhaps not the best, however, I believe I actually paid £3 for two bottles of the product, with this price reflecting better value for money. The Avon Care range is often subject to promotional deals and offers, and I would recommend purchasing at these times to obtain the best value for money. The product can be purchased directly from your local Avon Representative, or you can buy online at www.avonshop.co.uk, where postage costs apply.
The packaging is more than fit for purpose, I have found, with the sturdy bottle sitting neatly at the side of my sink, with a rather less 'cumbersome' look and feel to it than the previous hand wash bottles I have used, mainly thanks to the Avon bottle's 'thinner' appearance. In addition, I have found the plastic 'pump' dispenser is made of robust plastic that has never broken or stuck during use. The plastic pump easily dispenses the perfect amount of Avon's creamy liquid into my waiting palm too, which I find agreeable, as other products can easily cause too much waste at this point in the process.
Avon's Gentle Hand Wash liquid is really lovely. I find too that the product fits its description perfectly, with this being evident from even the first use. With a gentle, 'calming' sort of aroma being present almost as soon as the product is dispensed into my hand, I find the whole process of washing my hands with the Avon Care product is entirely gentle, without any harsh effects whatsoever...... So, perfect for me, and my sensitive skin.
The creamy liquid is a pale white colour and the liquid has a sort of 'pearl-like' sheen to it that is quite attractive, I suppose, but other than these points there is nothing particularly remarkable about the appearance of the Hand Wash. It's consistency is quite thin, although not so much that it drips or 'spills' from the hands easily during use. Upon coming into contact with hot water, the 'lotion-like' liquid soaps gently but quickly, creating a white, fluffy lather that 'coats' the skin easily. Gliding this soapy lather over my hands takes just a moment, and it is at this stage in the process that I am able to observe how soft and gentle the product feels on my skin. With no evidence of any 'tackiness' or sticky feeling during use, the Hand Wash just feels delicate and soft, gently cleansing my skin rather than 'stripping' it of its natural oils and moisture. After rinsing the lather from my skin, I notice that my hands feel soft and thoroughly cleansed, appearing to be spotlessly clean and free from any dirt or grime that had been lurking previously.
The product's scent is really lovely, although I find it is quite hard to describe. Being quite 'delicate' in its fragrance, I find there is a definite sweet edge to the soap's scent, although this is never allowed to become over-powering or sickly, thankfully. Instead, the scent is faintly reminiscent of baby lotion, but with a 'soapy' core at the fragrance that is quite pronounced. The culmination of these elements in the scent allow it to feel thoroughly gentle and rather more 'nourishing' than other hand soap products that I use on a regular basis. I find too that although the product's scent lingers delicately on the skin after use, it does so quietly, whispering its presence from the skin gently, so it doesn't feel as though the product is 'interfering' with other scents being worn. Likewise, the scent never feels over-bearing after the use of the product, and in fact it fades quite quickly until there is just a mere trace of a 'powdery' soapy scent detectable.
I would say that the product's fragrance is not overly feminine, with it smelling more like just 'soap' than anything particularly flowery or 'girly'. I do therefore feel that it is more suitable for use by the whole family than some other hand wash products that are particularly feminine. I do think this makes it slightly more 'flexible' than some of the other hand wash products that I have purchased recently.
I have still felt it necessary to apply a nourishing hand cream product at least once per day during the use of this product, but I can't honestly say I have felt the Avon Hand Wash to be too harsh or overly 'drying' on my sensitive skin. I have noticed nothing in the way of irritation or aggravation to my sensitive skin, and I do therefore feel the product is suitable for use by those consumers who, like me, suffer with dry and/or sensitive skin.
Taking everything into account, I can't think of a single negative point to mention within this review when considering the performance of the Avon Care Gentle Hand Wash. I do thoroughly recommend the product, and have already repurchased it for use in my own household.
===Why I Bought This===
I enjoy trying out different Avon products and when this was on offer with shower gels etc as a 5 for £5 I thought I would give it a try.
Avon is a long established direct selling network which used to sell just door-to-door but you can order directly from their website these days if you do not have a local representative handy.
Avon has 18 different brochures issued throughout the year - or their stock can be viewed online.
Avon's website states - 'Rich, lathering, delicately fragranced hand wash with chamomile and oatmeal extract'.

Beige bottle with large white pump on the top
Moisturises with chamomile and oat extract.
'Family friendly', and made in Poland.
Gentle cleaning for all the family.
Suitable for sensitive skin - avoid eyes.
White pearlised liquid.
£2.50 at full price but currently on sale as 5 for £5.
Normally I like using antibacterial handwashes but this one looked inviting in the Avon catalogue and I think I had in mind some lovely soaps I would buy years ago that were the same oaty colour and which had oats embedded in them and a gorgeous creamy smell and lather.
However although the bottle is a creamy oaty colour the liquid itself is actually a sort of pearly white, and with hardly any fragrance - quite a disappointment.
It does clean your hands ok and is not drying so may be of benefit to those with sensitive skins. However using it alongside Tesco Everyday Value ordinary handwash there is barely any difference - so although those with sensitive hands may benefit I did not find it a product I would want to buy again.
Personally if I am paying more than a basic sort of price I expect something a little nicer - creamier texture or a lovely smell - otherwise I do not see any reason to pay above the Tesco Everyday Value price.
===Would I Recommend?===
Yes - gentle with hardly any fragrance though - best for those with sensitive skin I would imagine
