This is one of my favourite products I have ever had, I would definitely recommend it, especially if you have long and thick hair as they are quick and easy to use compared to some other hair curling products which take longer to use. They heat up extremely fast and you can control the heat to suit your hair type. Because the wand is so light, it is easy to use, allowing you to handle it more freely. When you first use the product you will possibly find it difficult to use as you have to use it a few times to get used to it and figure out the best way that suits you the most. You can create a variety of different types of curls with this product, it all depends on the way you use it, my favourite is to create a natural look by being fast and using the want in different directions. Alternatively I also to to create a smooth wave, I do this by curling my hair in the same direction and then brushing my hair afterwards. There are many more ways to use the wand, because of the way the wand gets smaller towards the end, you can create both large and small curls too. Unfortunately you can occasionally burn yourself with it quite easily depending on how careful you are and if you're in a rush.
The good points about this item are that it does give your hair gorgeous ringlets if you can master how to use it in the right way. The bad points are that it's very difficult to use on yourself, mainly round the back of your head. It's far better if you can get someone to do it for you. Although it does get easier with practice of course, it's still not easy at all. The wand itself does get incredibly hot, so doesn't take long to get the curls you want just don't leave to long as could be very damaging to hair. It does come with a heat protective glove to use, to prevent burnt finger tips which is a great addition. Another problem I find is that when you wrap the hair around the wand it slips all over the place and so I think this item would be better with perhaps short bristles along the wand to grab the hair and keep it where you want it. I would recommend this product for the results you get, but bear in mind it does have it's down sides.
Personally I am not a great fan of this. After watching some curling wand tutorial videos I decided I would purchase this one to curl my hair for a night out. What a disaster. The wand gets very very hot and although you get a heat resistant glove to use, it doesn't seem to make much difference. You have to wrap you hair around the wand then hold it in place which can be awkward at first especially trying to do the back of your hair. I burned my hand and arm in four places and was quite painful for a few hours. Sometimes you wrap your hair around the top of the wand but it slides down to the bottom and produces awful tight curls, other times the hair stays at the top and the curls turn out quite nice but the different sized curls just look odd. Overall I was not very impressed with this.
= = = = = = The Product = = = = = = The product I am reviewing is the Remington Pearl Hair Curling Wand (Ci95) which is the latest in styling innovation. This wand has a high tech barrel with an innovative coating that makes it super smooth. It also has precious pearl power incorporated into the Advanced Ceramic coating of the barrel making it eight times smoother five times longer lasting than standard Ceramic wands. Because you wrap the hair round the wand and hold it means there's no snagging or catching and the wand glides effortlessly through the hair to create sleek, high definition curls. You can create curls and waves with this wand simply by wrapping strands of hair around the conical barrel. The wand has various heat settings up to 210c which heats up within just 30 seconds. You can lock the temperature on the digital display to ensure it doesn't change when using the product. Other features of the product includes 2 minute cool down, Auto shut off, LCD display screen, Worldwide voltage and a 3 metre cord length. The curling wand comes in its own box which has plenty of information about the product on it. This includes features of the product and it shows you a picture of the wand on the front. The product and everything else that comes with it should be sealed in a plastic bag. In the bag should be a heat proof pouch, the pearl wand, heatproof glove and instruction manual. The wand itself is very sleek and is black in colour. The barrel gets narrower towards the end and has a cool tip at the end of it to ensure that you don't burn your fingers. The glove feels quite comfortable and is also a good thickness. There is a beautiful oriental style flower design on the wand which gives it a lovely finishing touch. The LCD screen is a good size so you are able to see the temperature. Under the LCD screen are 3 silver buttons one of which is the power button, minus button and plus button. These buttons are pretty much self-explanatory so I don't think I really need to go into details about them. The cord comes folded up neatly by a small wire tie which untwists easily so you can unwind the whole length of the cord. The heat proof glove is black and can be worn on either the left or right hand. This means you can hold the end of your hair near the barrel when using the wand and this stops you from burning your fingers. The heat proof pouch is quite long and is a gold/silver metallic colour with a black lining. The wand fits perfectly in the pouch and you can use the drawstrings at the top to tighten the top so it doesn't fall out. The plug doesn't fit in the pouch so this needs to be folded neatly. It would have been good to have a stretchy elastic band or small strip of heat proof material so you are able to tuck the cable into the outside of the pouch rather than letting it hang around loose. The small paper booklet that comes with the product tells you about the product features and it also states that the product has a 5 year guarantee. There are also instructions for use and also important instructions to take into consideration when using the product. The cleaning and maintenance instructions are easy to understand and you can clean the wand simply by wiping it with a damp cloth once it has cooled down after use. In the leaflet is also safety information, wiring instructions and service and warranty information. = = = = = = = = Price/Availability = = = = = = = = I purchased the curling wand from www.very.co.uk for £25; how-ever you can also purchase these from boots for around the same price. They also do a thicker wand suitable for much longer hair. This is slightly more expensive at £27.99. You can probably also purchase the wands from Argos and various other stores. = = = = = = = = Using the Product = = = = = = = = I would suggest purchasing some type of heat protector spray to help protect your hair. I always use L'Oreal Studio Thermo Curling Spray which is designed for use with curling tongs or a hair-dryer. There are various other brands of products you can use to protect your hair when using heat tools on your hair. Plug the wand in and hold the power button for a few seconds for it to come on. Choose the temperature by pressing the + or - buttons. To hold the temperature, press the - button. You will notice that a key symbol appears on the LCD screen. To unlock the temperature hold the - button again until the key symbol disappears. Ensure your hair is clean, dry and tangle free. Ensure you put the heat protective glove on that will help you stop burning your fingers. The glove fits on either hand and is actually comfortable to wear and it's still easy to style your hair when you have the glove on. Clip up your hair to ensure you can style the hair properly section, by section. Take 1 inch of your hair and holding the handle of the wand with one hand use the other hand to wrap this section of hair around the barrel. You need to make sure you keep hold of the end of your hair. I found it really easy to wrap the hair around the barrel and due to the cool tip along with the heat proof glove it means you can hold the hair in place for a good 10 seconds (recommended time) before releasing the hair. I would definitely advise wearing the glove as even though the tip of the barrel is meant to be cool, it does still feel rather hot to touch with the fingers. When you release the hair from the barrel you can literally pull the wand out from the piece of hair you have just curled and start working on the next section. If you want to create tighter curls simply use smaller sections of hair and for looser curls use bigger sections of hair. I prefer slightly looser curls, so I stuck with sectioning my hair into approximately 1inch sections for styling. I found the product really easy to use and if a curl didn't turn out the way I wanted it to I simply wrapped it around the barrel again to create a better curl. The first time I used this product it took me at least 30-45mins to get my hair looking perfect and how I wanted it to look. This is also probably because it's the first time I have used a product like this before. After using the product on my hair I sprayed a good amount of hair-spray to try to keep the style in and to ensure that it stayed looking great all night. You can also separate the curls a little if you wish as well, simply by running your fingers through them. I did this on a few of the curls but didn't want to separate them too much. I found that separating them gave them a slightly more natural look. = = = = Results = = = = My hair looked very different as I am used to having it straight or tied back in a ponytail all the time. My hair looked really nice and added a bit of glamour to my outfit. I was a little worried that the curls were going to drop out during the night as my hair is used to being straightened so I did take a small can of hair-spray with me in my bag just in case. The product has a very small stand so I would really advise you to buy a heat mat for this as the stand is so small that it could still easily melt or burn your carpet or rug. The pouch that comes with the wand is heat-proof so you could put the wand in the pouch as an alternative to leaving them out to cool; how-ever I prefer to put them into the pouch once they have cooled. I got a few compliments on my hair and a few people commented on how nice and different it looked. I kept checking my hair in the mirror every time I popped into the toilets and I did keep applying a little hair-spray here and there to ensure the style stayed. I was out for a good 4-5hrs and despite applying a fair amount of hair-spray the curls in my hair did drop a little and by the end of the night it didn't look as good as it had when I first went out. It did still look good though and looked a little more natural now the curls had dropped slightly. The following morning I had to wash my hair due to the hair-spray I had put in my hair so I can't commented on how my hair looked the following morning, although it probably would have looked a little messy and the curls would have probably been all over the place. = = = = = = = Overall Opinion = = = = = = = I had high hopes of this product after reading various reviews on the Boots website and other various websites. The wand is really simple and easy to use and it didn't cause my hair to go frizzy or feel dry. The wand creates lovely, natural curls that can either be tight or loose to give a lovely natural look. Despite my hair being shoulder length and always tied back or straightened the wand was easy to use on my hair and curled my hair easily. I have also used the wand on my friend's hair and on her hair extensions and the wand even works really well on hair extensions as well which I was surprised at, as the hair was slightly thicker and drier than her actual hair so I wasn't sure it would curl or not. Although the curls did drop and fall out slightly during the night, I wasn't really disappointed as my hair still looked great and it made it look slightly more natural as well. After washing my hair, it was back to normal again and you wouldn't have been able to tell that I had curled it the night before. My hair didn't feel dry from using the wand, how-ever this may be due to using a heat protector spray on my hair to minimise the damage to it. In terms of value I think this product is very reasonable as it's so simple and easy to use. I have to admit that I did find doing the back of my hair a little hard, how-ever I seem to have got the knack of this now and can now curl the whole of my hair in a lot less time than I did when using the wans for the first time. The heat protective pouch that comes with the wand is great, although it hasn't got extra room to store the plug and there is no strap or anything else to secure the lead and plug to the pouch either. The heat proof glove does stop you getting burnt, how-ever you can still feel a fair amount of heat coming through the glove and I find that this does sometimes feel too hot as I have to pull my hand away sometimes. I would definitely recommend this to others if you want to curl you hair and aren't very good at using straighteners to do it. It may take you a few attempts at using this product to get the look right but your hair will look great in the end. (review will also appear on ciao)
If you like creating curls in your hair then you will enjoy using this. I can create curls with hair straighteners, which is a bit of skill as it hard to stop certain bits going kinky, however with these you get smooth curls that fall really well. There is a massive downside to this though and that is that it is really hard to do yourself unless you enjoy having burnt fingers and burnt ears. I know you get a special heat resistant glove that are specially designed for use with the tong, however you will find that it is really tricky to do it yourself. You end up getting both hands involved and I can't hold the hair properly in the glove. Despite my moans, if you are using this on someone else's hair, you will find that this is one of the best curling tong because it gets really hot and the hair curls quickly. Using it solo though is definitely a challenge and I have given up trying to do my own now! ==Price and availability== This is excellent value for money because it is a very professional piece of equipment. The tong costs £19.99 which is really good when you consider than some hair ceramic hair straighteners cost over £100! I consider it good value for money as it has an LCD display and it has a ceramic barrel. £19.99 is a good price for a tool with these features. ==Description== Box Contains * 1 x Pearl styler with 3 m swivel cord * 1 x Heat resistant glove * 1 x Heat resistant pouch * 1 x Instruction manual The Remington Pearl Pro curl hair styler features a long thick ceramic coated barrel which ensures that the heat is spread even across the barrel whilst styling. The barrel is only slighter shorter than the handle and the whole things is quite light. The barrel is really smooth and finished with a pearly glow, this ensures that the hair wraps round smoothly, however it also means that it slides off really easily too. At the top of the barrel there is a little heat resistant knob that allows you to touch it without getting burnt. At the rear is a swivel cord so you can plug it into the mains. The barrel is 32mm and on the handle there is a temperature gauge which is displayed on the digital LCD display. There is a 130 to 210 degree variable temperature range so you can achieve the best heat for your hair. I find that the only way to get the curls to form is to use the highest temperature. There is also a temperature key lock which prevents accidental temperature fluctuation which can be annoying if you are in a rush. The tong has an automatic shut off after 60 seconds so if you leave it on accidently then you don;t have to worry about it. The tong comes with a heat proof pouch which is good to store the wand tong in. This is good if you want to take the wand to the gym as it means you can pack it quickly afterwards. Unfortunately it takes so long to use that it is not really appropriate to take to the gym. The pouch is really stylish actually and it looks really cool. ==My experiences== I have shoulder length hair and I find this really hard to use. Even when you prepare the hair with a spray designed for curls. I find that to use this on your own, you just don't have enough hands. I put the glove on one hand and hold the wand in the other and use the gloved hand to wrap the hair around and it does work eventually, in fact this is such a good quality product. I find this to be very fiddly and it takes great care to wrap the hair around and ensure it does not slip off. The barrel is good quality and it takes less than 30 seconds to reach the optimum temperature. The design means that when you finally get the hair in the right place, it takes less than ten seconds to create the curl and then pull out the hair gently to leave the curl behind. I have suffered burnt ears with this though as the main place I want curls are to frame the face. This is hard to do when you have sticky out ears that get in the way. This is much easier to use when you are doing someone else's hair. My sister and I did each others for a night out and it took hardly any time at all and it was really fun too. I think it would be easier if there was a little section to hold the end of the hair and then wrap the hair around the barrel, a barrel on its own that is so shiny and pearly just encourages the hair to slip off. ==Overall== This is a really well made tool and I think it is so much more successful than the old gas powered tongs. What I like about those designs though is that there was a section that held the hair in place. I just find this tool to be too fiddly. It gets really hot which is good for creating curls quickly though but the downside to this is that it is so easy to burn yourself. The curls that are created are smooth and shiny and there is not the slightest bit of frizz which is good. The pearl design seems to be smooth the hair and condition it. The curls stay just as long as any other product, I use a lot of hair spray to keep them in as my hair is quite soft anyway so they will fall out without any holding spray. I like the design of these with the digital temperature gauge and I like how quick they are to heat up. If you manage to get someone to do your hair for you then you will find that the product is much easier to use when you are not doing your own hair. For the price I paid I think the product represents good value for money, however there is a lot of trial and error involved.
~*~*~ Remington Pearl Curling Wand ~*~*~ ~ What is it? ~ This is a wand shaped curling iron with a conical barrel. It is by the makers - Remington and is part of their Pearl range where there are other hair items available. ~ Why did I buy it? ~ Having owned a curling wand for some time now, it is something that I use on a pretty much daily basis. I love adding waves or curls to my naturally poker straight hair and after dropping my previous Babyliss wand which unfortunately didn't survive said drop, I knew I wanted to replace it pretty quickly. I could have simply used curling tongs but I find that a wand takes less than half the time of conventional tongs so I went on the hunt. I was tempted to replace the Babyliss with another Babyliss but then I saw the Remington wand and opted for that instead. I am not really brand loyal when it comes to heated hair appliances however I do seem to have an abundance of Babyliss items with a few other makes thrown in, so I wasn't worried about what brand to choose from, I just thought a change would be good! ~ Using the curling wand ~ If you are a beginner in hair curling I can highly recommend a curling wand. The main difference is that there is no clamp/grip on these which closes on the hair so you never have to worry about an unsightly kink in the ends of the hair. With a wand you are in control and you can choose the fatter end of the wand or the thinner to achieve the curl you want, you can also work with larger sections of hair meaning you can get the task in hand complete in no time. The wand is pretty large to work with as you have the large handle where the buttons and LCD screen are located and upon that you have the heated part, the wand is tapered and has a heat proof tip. The largest part of the wand is 25mm and the smallest is 13mm, this allows you to achieve a good range of curls in sizes you want. I tend to work from the underneath of my hair upwards, to do so I section it off using a clip or hair bobble, I then curl the underneath section, bring another straight section down, curl that, and repeat until all of my hair is curled. The wand gives me a lot more range as I can wrap my hair around the barrel from root to tip rather than the opposite way you do when using hair tongs. I usually start around a quarter of the way down my hair so that it doesn't curl at the root area. Before I do that however I first have to plug them in and switch them on. To switch them on you have to press a little power button on the bottom handle part, above this you will see a plus + and minus - button, this is how you control the temperature, the temperatures range from 130 to 210, above the buttons is a small LCD screen showing what temperature you have chosen, there is a little bar that increases by three to show the heat up time and when it stops moving through the bars and stops on a steady three bar then that means it is ready to use. At the lowest temperature (130) the heat up time is a quick 30 seconds, however I tend to use them on 210, the highest and this takes around 90 seconds to fully heat up, but I do still think this is extremely quick, especially when I compare it to my tongs which take a good 15 - 20 minutes to fully heat up and work properly. When they have reached the desired temperature they are ready to use. Included in the box is a heat protection glove. This just looks like a thick black cotton glove and it does work very well. When I first started using curling wands I thought I didn't really need the glove but I was wrong! I ended up burning my index finger quite badly, my thumb and tip of my ring finger also got burnt ... Not good! Learn from my mistake - Use the glove provided! You need the glove as to fully curl the hair you need to wrap it around the wand and when you get to the end you need to hold the hair in place for at least 10 seconds, a little longer for thicker hair sections. I tend to hold the whole curl around the wand barrel to keep all the hair in place so I do find the glove very useful, as I have gotten used to using them however if I am doing my hair quickly I don't tend to need the glove so much. Obviously with the high temperature of this wand you need to use some sort of heat protection product on the hair to protect it. I use Treseme Heat Defence spray which I apply before I blow dry my hair and then before I use the wand I smooth a small amount of Argan Oil through my hair, this helps keep my curls soft and smooth and also stops them from going frizzy which I think is quite important, the oil also stops my hair from getting damaged which is even more important! You work with sections of hair, wrap it around the wand from the top to the tip, you then hold the hair in place for 10 seconds or so and when you let the curl drop it should be perfect, if not you can easily re-wrap the hair around to get your desired result. I like how easy and versatile they are to use. The time is dramatically reduced from using regular tongs, where that can take anywhere from an hour onwards these allow me to curl my hair in around 15 - 20 minutes which I really like. They have a handy lock feature which is symbolised by a padlock on the LCD screen. I found that I was reducing the temperature and even turning them off before I realised this feature existed. You simply have to put it on your desired temperature and then hold in the minus - button for two seconds for it to lock and that way you can use it without the worry of turning it down or off. ~ Pearl Wand ~ The wand is very aesthetically pleasing, they are coloured in mainly black with a small amount of flower detail at the top of the handle, the buttons are coloured in a pale pearly like colour. The actual wand bit is black and slightly sparkly, it has a ceramic coating with real pearl. The heat is evenly distributed and it has a small black cool tip. They do look nice and professional . They also have a 3m salon length swivel cord. In the box you also get a black thick cotton heat protection glove. They have a 5yr guarantee. Even the box is pretty looking with its black and pearl colouring and floral hints. ~ Price & Availability ~ I purchased my wand from Amazon where it cost a decent £19.99. It can also be bought from Boots, Argos and Tesco to name a few and costs roughly the same price as I bought it for. ~ Overall ~ I have owned this Remington Pearl Wand for around a month or just over now and I have to say I am very impressed. I have used them on a weekly basis with me curling my hair three maybe four times a week, I just find them so easy and simple to use and love the results I achieve when using them. I really have nothing bad to say about the wand itself. It looks nice, feels nice to use. I do think when you first start using wands the overall size on them can seem like they are a little too large and cumbersome but you soon get used to this and then find conventional tongs seem a little small. The wand is comfortable to hold and curls my hair brilliantly. I tend to use the highest heat setting on everything, and so far my hair is showing no ill effects, but as I have already mentioned I do make sure I use heat protection products to protect my hair. The curls last incredibly well, I have gotten two days of neat curly curls but as I do tend to wash my hair on a daily basis they don't have a chance to stay any longer! I have curled my hair in the evening and found no need to re-do it the following morning as they hold very well indeed. There is one bad point to the set however. Included in the box is a heat proof pouch. It is quite nice to look at, it feels like a nice item but I don't see the point of it much if I am being honest. It does protect the wand well but I would have preferred a pouch that you could fit the whole of the wand into including the plug and cord, just for convenience really. Whilst it does do a good job of protecting the wand itself, it doesn't really hold much purpose for packing it away as I like to be able to do this in a neat fashion! That's just my opinion! I do really the wand though and I would recommend it to anyone wishing to curl their hair. They make a simple task of a sometimes daunting task. These are getting a well deserved 5/5. Thanks for reading :o) x
I've never really been any good at all things related to style a beauty, but I do try when I can. I was left the impression by friends that curling wands are one of the easiest tools to use when curling your hair, so I decided to save up some of my spare pennies to fund one. I found the Rimmel Pearl wand in boots for just £25, which seemed cheap enough compared to the prices of some higher end products. The product includes a heat proof glove which comes in handy if you're clumsy like me and prone to burns. The glove will fit on either left or right hand due to the design of it and keeps out a significant amount of heat whilst holding the wand. However don't put your hand directly on the wand whilst waering the glove because the heat will break through after a while. The instructions included with the wand simply state that you need to get your hair at the root and wrap it around the wand until you reach the tip, hold, and then pull the wand out which should leave a springy curl. That wasn't the case when I tried. I have fairly long hair which reaches my mid-back so I did expect the process to take a little longer than what my friends had stated, but I didnt expect my hair not to curl at all. I initially waited 20 seconds for each strand of hair, I found that it just made my hair look a little wavy and mainly frizzy. In the end, through trial and error I found that I had to hold each strand for nearer to a minute to get anything that closely resembles a curl! I think my main problem with this product is that it isnt fully compatible with the length of my hair. I do still use it every now and then if I want a wavy look, but I can never quite achieve that angel curl that everyone else seems to get. For the price I'm not too disappointed, but I do wish the wand was a little bigger so I can get a better use out of it.
My 14 year old daughter had been using a curling wand for months and although it was a little cheap one, her hair always looked lovely and curly, my secret dream was to have my poker straight hair turned into a princess curly top! I didnt want to embarrass myself and ask her to do mine but thought, one day i will have a go. I was wandering around Debenhams last week, often found lurking in this shop to be fair, and i spotted the Remington C195 Curling wand and although tempted at £20, I was still unsure if i could actually use it to give me the curls. Continued to shop and on the way back through decided to take the plunge and bought it. I had a 50th birthday party to attend a few days later and figured i would have plenty of time to practice. This bought me to my initial problem, how do you use these things correctly to get either the tight curls or the loose, just fell out of bed look so i decided to put that question into YouTube.....result! Lots of girls usingthe wand to achieve various looks with ease and it did look really easy. The wand did not come with any instructions but with a long cord and a heat protective glove for 1 hand......believe me, that was needed. The wand itself is ceramic and as my straighteners are ceramic, i thought this was the best way forward to protect the hair. The barrel of the wand is thicker at one end so if you wind your hair down the barrel the curls are going to look more natural, also, if you want the loose look then you wrap thicker sections around the wand. A heat protection spray would be advisable beforehand as not only does it protect the hair, it gives it a little more hold. The barrel of the wand itself has pearl within the ceramic coating and this allows your hair to retain more curl without the frizz that can sometines occur with heated products. There is a digital display on the handle of the wand and this allows for you to adjust the heat settings accordingly, I only needed a lower heat as my hair is very fine but you can take it up to suit your hair thickness. The heat setting can be set for you and also the on/off switch needs to be held for a few seconds before it turns off, preventing you acidentally turning it off when using it. To curl the hair it seems best to hold the handle at the top of the head and wind the hair down and around the shaft, hold for 3-5 seconds and let the hair fall off the wand. Beautiful curls! Always make sure you wear the heat protecting glove as you can burn very easily with the wand. This also comes with a travel case which is heat resistant, great for holidays and travelling on business. I have used this a few times now and as a novice can honestly say its fantastic! I looked like i had been to the hairdressers when I went to the party and i got such a lot of compliments. Great for everyday use as well as special occassions and with a 5 year guarantee, they dont come much better than this.
Last year I really tried hard to grow my hair long, it was only shoulder length and it's hard to do anything nice with it when you go out when it is so short! I have now got a really nice length hair and I'm making the most of it by doing lots of stuff with it! My favourite way to wear my hair at the moment is down, with lots of curls! I invested in this curling wand around 6 months ago, and I now use it most days to create my wavy style. I paid £20 on Amazon for this curling wand, and it was the best £20 I've spent! It is worth every penny, it is so cheap for such a good quality styling product. In the box you also get a free heat glove to wear whilst you are using the curling wand, I would advise to wear this the first few times you use it if you are not used to using a curling wand. I had never really used one before and I burnt my fingers a few times, these heat up to 210 degrees! Once you know how to hold it properly and are used to them, you don't need the glove, I don't anymore. It also comes with a heat proof ouch to store your wand in when you are not using it, which is handy to keep it safe. To use this wand you simply turn it on, and you can alter the temperature by pressing the plus button for it to go hotter, and the minus button to go cooler. The temperature of this wand can be set between 130 - 210 degrees. You can start off with the lower temperature and heat it up a bit more until you feel the temperature is hot enough to set your hair. It depends on what type of hair you have, if you have very thick hair I think the temperature would need to be quite high to set your curls and keep them in. My hair is very fine and I only have it at 150 degrees and this is perfect. My curls stay in all day perfectly, and even in the morning when I wake up, my curls are still in. My hair is a mess, but they definitely don't drop out! This wand is black, and the buttons are white. It looks so sleek and stylish, and is so lightweight, it is not heavy in your hands at all, which is great because you can be holding it a while if you are making lots of curls in your hair. It takes a little while to get the hang of a curling wand if you haven't used one before. All you do is get a section of your hair, and wind it round the wand, and hold it there for around 10 seconds and then let go. It curls your hair so quickly, and it is a really neat and tight curl. You can make your hair wavy by winding it round the wand loosely, or you can have lots of curls, and ringlets by wrapping your hair around tighter. I usually do loose curls in the bottom half of my hair and if you run your fingers through the curls you can make it look so natural. I don't even use hairspray to keep my curls in, it stays in naturally all day. If I am going out at night, I do my whole hair in curls, but it does take rather a long time! Usually around 40 minutes as you have to section all your hair, you can't wrap a large amount of your hair around the wand or it just doesn't work as well. You are better doing less hair, and getting a better curl, which will last all night. This wand is supposed to be 15 times more ceramic than most curling wands which is why you get a nice curl, as more heat gets to your hair. I haven't used any other curling wand, so I'm not sure if this is any better or not! As this wand gets so hot, you should make sure you use a heat protection spray to protect your hair from the heat. This wand comes with a 3 year guarantee, and worldwide voltage so you can use it no problem on holiday. It also has a handy 3 metre cord, and will automatically shut off after 60 minutes of use, so you don't need to worry if you have gone out and can't remember if you have turned it off or not! I would recommend this curling wand, it is worth every penny I paid for it. It is lightweight, sleek and stylish, gives great curls, and is so easy to use. If you are looking to purchase one, definitely give this one a go!
Pros Creates curls that hold all day Digital temperature control means that you can control how much damage you are doing to your hair with the heat and can control how tight you want the curls. Includes heat proof glove. Long swivel cable meant that it was easy to move around my bedroom with this device. Pretty design on the device meant it looked nice. Cons Takes a bit of getting used to. I had to practice a lot in the mirror to get the hang of how to wrap hair around it to create even curls. I found that I still got slightly burnt even with the glove and which made it more difficult to use. I didn't like the tapered end of this wand and would prefer it to be wider and all one width but that is personal opinion. I found the thin end made the curl too tight. Although this device takes a little bit of getting used to, with some practice you can create nice curls, quickly, and they last all day. I think if I was to buy it again I would buy the wider version but that is entirely up to you.
~~~REMINGTON PEARL STYLING WAND ~~~ Being a trained hairdresser, I always try to keep on top of the latest trends in both hairstyles equipment to help achieve the latest looks. This is why when I had noticed lots of styles with that just got out of bed/ beach wind swept hair styles last year; I decided to look around for equipment to help me achieve that look. I happened upon the Yogi wand, but as that was out of the price range I wanted to pay, I happily purchased the much more affordable version from the trusted brand of Remington. This review discusses my thoughts and feelings since my initial purchase. This Remington Pearl Wand was purchased by me, but not actually for me; it was a Christmas present for my daughter, who at 20 at the time, was/is the right age range for the tousled look that this item helps you achieve. It is available today on promotion at Boots for only £19.99, whereas I'm sure I paid at least £10 more than that last year. It is also available from Remington directly at a cost of £25.99 and free post and packaging, so it pays to shop around if you would like one. It might be for her, but guess who actually has to do it. You guessed correctly, me of course! Her reply is why have a hairdresser in the family if you have to do your own hair; the cheek of it! Anyway, I digress. This product comes from Remington's Pearl Styling Collection, and aims to help you to style your hair the way that you want in the fastest and smoothest way, while also keeping it healthy. ~~~ The Wand ~~~ The product has a tapered barrel, from around 10 mm right up to 1 inch. This gives a more natural curl over a curling tong, as it is less uniform and rigid. The barrel coating is extremely innovative and the reason I went for this model in the first instance. Along with being ceramic for better heat distribution and hair protection, it also contains microns of real pearl. The advantage of this is that it makes the hair up to 8 times smoother than standard ceramic coatings, and up to 5 times longer lasting curl. The ceramic on this wand has 15 times more than standard coatings and therefore makes up to a mind blowing 85 times harder, meaning they can offer an outstanding five year guarantee. Why would they do that if they didn't have confidence that it would last so long? ~~~ Variable Heat Settings ~~~ An excellent feature of this particular wand is that is has a variable temperature settings, on its stunning blue LCD display. The range goes from a cool 130 degrees, right up to 210 degrees Celsius. You may automatically, think as with straighteners, that 230 degrees is temperature to aim for; due to the high quality of the barrel and the heat distribution of the ceramic coating, such high temperatures are not needed on this wand, and indeed could do more harm than good. I like that once you have chosen a heat setting you can lock the temperature there, and this avoids accidental temperature changing. A row of lines on the display indicate when the wand is heating up as they will move in sequence and when the temperature has been reached, they will stay stagnant. ~~~ Cord Length and Travel Use ~~~ The cord is salon length at three metres. Most other wands on the market for home use are usually around the two metre mark. The extra metre means that you are not tied to the plug socket, and can manoeuvre more freely to a mirror or wherever, if you should do need to. It also has the benefit of being able to swivel 360 degrees, should you get into any tangles. This product has a typical English three pin plug already fixed and moulded onto the flex of the appliance. The unit though has been manufactured with worldwide use in mind and can vary from 120 watts to 240 watts. This is done by simply using a travel adaptor suitable for the country you are travelling to. Although it feels quite substantial, the wand is quite light, and also slimline so weight wouldn't be an issue if you wanted to take this travelling anyway; another plus point in its favour. ~~~ In Use ~~~ Once heated, you could/probably should use a heat protective mat to rest the wand, to prevent burning any surfaces. This has a rather nifty little build in stand that you could use though, it is adequate and serves its purpose albeit a little awkward; therefore I prefer to utilise a heatproof mat simply for ease of use, then I don't have to worry about positioning the hot wand correctly and possibly burning myself. In use there isn't really a correct way to utilise the heat styler - sections don't really matter because after all you are looking to achieve a tousled/bed head look. The knack to this wand is rather tricky to master if you are used to ordinary curling tongs at all. It seems un-natural but you have to wind your hair around the barrel from root to ends, rather than place your hair under the arm of the tong, and then twist the tong around and around until you reach the root. It's the opposite way around - but it only takes a minute or two to get used to it, and it's easily achievable yourself as I do it do my own hair occasionally. It is recommended though, by myself and Remington, that whatever section of hair you do take, lies flat against the barrel, as you would do a curling tong. Don't take to thick a section, but not too fine either, otherwise you'll just look like Shirley Temple (old fashioned child film star if you didn't already know). With this unit you do get the choice of working from tip to base, therefore having a tighter curl at the root, and tousled ends, but I prefer having the looser, more natural root curl which gives a little lift, and then a tighter curl along the length of the hair shaft. The wand features a cool tip should you need it. I recommend holding this appliance with your predominant hand, and twisting your hair around the barrel with the other one. As this wand gets extremely hot very, very quickly, heat up time is less than 30 minutes, I feel assured that the heat proof glove provided will give me adequate protection from the heat, especially as I wind the hair around with my less dominant hand. You do feel the warmth there, I do admit that, but it's only warmth and not scolding heat, which I am most pleased about. ~~~ Heat Protection ~~~ I tend to use a heat protection spray when I use this product and really do recommend it to you, whichever brand you choose. However good the technology is today, there is always the chance that something could fail and you could potentially more damage to your hair than need be. A heat protection spray just adds another layer of protection and keeps your hair feeling and looking good for longer, so it's all worth it if the end result is the soft, natural and glossy looking waves that you dreamed of. The curl is well defined, glossy and the transformation from straight/wavy to tousled, ringlet style hair happens extremely quickly due to both the high temperature and the exceptional build quality of the Remington Pearl Wand. If you needed to stow this away while it's still hot or even warm, a metallic silver heatproof pouch makes a great addition, and means you can put them away safely without the need to wait for them to cool completely. ~~~ Conclusion ~~~ All in all, I think this Remington Pearl Wand is fantastic. It makes beautiful long lasting curls which shine and bounce with health. In fact, the curls are so long lasting, I have curled both my daughters and my own hair one day, and they'd still be there the next. We have had to wash them out to remove them. You could lower the temperature, and risk having the curl drop slightly, and this would result in an even more natural curl; it depends what look you want to create; that's the beauty of this product. Overall, this wand is extremely easy to use once you've got used to winding the hair around the barrel, and not the other way around, you'll be laughing. I most highly recommend the Remington Pearl range of hair stylers and hope that you trust my judgement that I could have purchased any brand on the market, but as a hairdresser, I chose these.
So i built up lots of points on my boots advantage card. And being a mum of 3 i never really get a chance to treat myself. So here goes spending all my point on the Remington pearl wand. £24.97 later i was now the proud new owner of this product. I am now one happy mummy. So it's well packaged in its designed box and all wrapped up. After undoing all the packaging I revealed my new product to the other half and all he could as was why. He always loves to burst my bubble. There are many features of the Pearl wand. It's got a 3 metre long swivel cable which makes it easy to use and you don't get tangled up in the wire. Also you can plug it in the other side of the room and still be able to move around easily. It also comes with a heat proof glove which makes it a lot easier without burning yourself. It also comes with a nice carrier bag to protect it from getting damaged while in your drawer. Unfortunately you need to wrap the lead and plug around the pearl wand outside of the bag as it will not fit in. This is fine for me as i know that the spokes on the plug would damage the wand. This wand certainly performs magic! After watching a few YouTube videos to find out the best way to do the rear of my head myself i finally cracked it. It's so easy to use. I gently hold the pearl want in my right hand behind my head (elbow in the air) and wrap the small piece of hair around the wand. 10 seconds later i remove the wand to find a beautiful perfect curl. One the wand itself there are 3 buttons, one is a power button and a plus and minus button. This allows you to change the temperature of your wand up or down. I like to have mine of the highest setting of 210 degrees as it allows me to do my hair faster. Another extra great feature of the pearl wand is that after 60 minutes the wand will shut off itself. I have not yet tested this as i usually finish within 40 minutes. One problem i found with the pearl wand is that having it on the higher setting and placing it on the floor (there is a little stand to prop it up on the wand itself) I've got lots of burn marks on my lovely new carpet. This is my own fault and not Remington's so i would recommend investing in a heatproof mat to save your flooring. There are many places you can purchase the pearl wand from, also varying in prices for £20-£30. I choose my local boots retailer as i could pay with my boots advantage card points. After using it many times now i am still pleased with how the pearl wand gives me these perfect sexy curls and makes me feel like a princess. Once I've done my hair i feel my confidence go through the roof as i just know i look beautiful. i would recommend also that you use a heat defence spray on your hair as these are very hot and will dry and split you hair if it's not well looked after. Overall fantastic product as a brilliant price, easy to you and makes me feel beautiful.
I'm not a big fan of Remmington products if I'm honest. I've had bad experiences with straighteners and dryers in the past so tended to stray away from them. But when it comes to curling wands, there is really not much choice!! The best did seem to be of the Remmington brand!! **Purchase** I have never owned a curling wand so to know what to look for was slightly hard...! Different products promised me different things, I didn't know what to do. So I enlisted the help of my best friend who is a part time hair dresser. She showed me the best hair styler in the shop (Boots) and I went for the one next to it as it was much much cheaper :) Hello Remmington curling wand!!! At 32 euro (on offer I'll have you know...and approximately £25) it wasn't extremely cheap, but with ones jumping at me for over the Euro100 mark, I practically ran to the till with this! **Features** The curling wand is black with a ceramic coated barrel. It has a 3 meter long cord that is fixed through a swivel connection to avoid the cord getting twisted. I really like the long cord as my striagthener has a short cord which gets knotted and twisted around everything...major grr!! Other useful features include: digital display, auto shut off and lcd lock. I found the curler heats up extremely fast which is great as it takes me ages to do my hair so I love something that Im not waiting around for. It comes with a cute carry pouch which is heat proof so you can stick in the curler in a hurry without waiting for it to cool down. As you can tell Im not a very patient person so for anybody like me out there,,,,this is the curler for you :) **Usage** I found this curler extremely easy to use. It has three buttons and can heat up to 210. I had envisioned it being so much harder as I had never curled my hair before by myself, watching my friend instead. The manual though is really simple to follow and tells you exactly what to do step by step to get luscious curls! You simply hold the hair near the root and wrap it round the wand bringing the tip of your hair to the tip of the wand, you then hold for a length of time depending on the thickness of the hair and the amount of spring you want in the curl this will of course vary, then let go and move on to the next section of hair. The wand sits easily in your hand and doesnt get uncomfortable like some would. My hair is quite thick so I would have to keep it in place a bit longer than most people would, say a minute or so. For natural looking curls it would take up to 15 minutes to achieve. For a more dashing look for a night on the town, it would take me over a half hour. Then again to properly straighten my hair it would take the same length. The ceramic barrel gives your curls a great shine too which is a mjor bonus. I would use this maybe once a fortnight so it gets a lot of use. I've had it since the end of the summer, so six months and have had no major problems yet, other than a burnt ear :) The wand takes 3-5 minutes to cool down and longer to get cold completely, but all depending on how long its been turned on.If your the forgetful type too, it has a cool feature that turns itself off after 60 minutes. **Overall** All in all I am quite happy with the purchase. I wanted curly hair and thats exatly what I have. It actually gives me the same look i get in the salon and isnt to difficult to achieve. Money well spent
At Christmas I was lucky enough to get my hands on a lot of money and after seeing my friends hair after using the Remington hair wand I was certain that I had to get one as soon as I could. -PRICE- I purchased mine whilst away in Dublin, in a Boots store so the price was obviously different. After looking online on the Boots website I can see that the price is £25.49 in the UK, I am sure places like Ebay or other stores with lower prices *might* do them cheaper. I thought the price of the wand was great because as I was looking around there was a lot of other less known brands which were double the price! -APPEARANCE- The appearance of the wand is great, its chic and modern and has a little design of flowers on it which gives it a feminine touch. It has 3 buttons which are easy to use and easy to understand, its also a very thin wand so its not to hard to hold in your hand ( I say this because I have used curlers in the past which are a pain to hold because they are so thick and big! ) The wand also has a 3 metre cord and its the swivel type making it very easy and not so complicated to use when your styling your hair..nothing worse than a short lead making it hard to move around as you like! Included with the wand is also a gold heat proof pouch which is great to put the product into/on to prevent any damage anywhere else. The box the wand came in was exactly like the wand, chic and feminine and very modern, inside the box was instructions on how to use and a guarantee incase anything should happen. -USE OF THE PRODUCT- If you have read some of my reviews in the past you will know I like to have hair which looks good, nothing worse than bad hair days! I rarely curl my hair..I have only had a few curlers in the past but none of them delivered the curls/waves I wanted, but like I said after seeing a friend with absolutely amazing wavy curly hair I asked her how she did it and that is when the pearl wand was mentioned. After I purchased the wand my excitement couldn't wait! I went upstairs and read the instructions, they said the wand only took 30 seconds to heat up and indeed they was right! Very fast heat up but also very hot ( depending on what temperature you have it on, it ranges from 130-210°C ) so if you do purchase make sure you put on your glove ( which is included ) before use, this will help protect you from getting burned. The barrel is apparently coated with ceramic which makes your curls/waves seem more smooth and glossy and makes application incredibly fast and smooth! When I use the product I can notice my hair looks more shiny and glossy..and people have also noticed this to! So high five for ceramic coating whatever that may be! As I said before the wand sits very comfortably in my hand and because of this, its not hard to make my hair look great. I use the wand for both curls and waves because they are both easy to do and both look natural and great, for tight curls I just do small sections of my hair at a time and wrap around the wand, hold the last piece of hair on the cool tip for around 10 seconds and let go..and after doing this I cant even begin to tell you the good hair days I have been having, my hair looks natural, glossy and full of life. The wand is also great for natural looking waves, I have tried numerous ways of trying to get wavy hair in the past ( using straighteners, wavy hair products! sea salt and water.. ) but all of them have failed! Holding the wand upside down ( takes a bit of getting used to but the cord makes it a lot easier because it moves with your hair! ) take a big (ish) piece of your hair ( also its best not to do this in sections if you have medium length hair! otherwise it wont really look wavy, more curly as waves usually start from half way down your head.. ) and wrap this around the wand for about 10 seconds and amazingly, you have great waves which look fantastic and bring in lots of compliments/ I only use this wand about once a week now ( used it every day when I first bought it! ) because they are quite damaging ( like all hot hair products! ) and because I had the temperature on the highest setting the damage did begin to show, but I doubt anyone would use these every day as when used correctly, they do give a very glamorous and expensive look to your hair! A few times a week is more than enough, if you do plan on using daily I would recommend getting some heat protecting products for your hair. Once you turn off the wand it takes about 2 minutes to cool down and then you can replace them in the heat proof pouch and store them until next needed, they also shut off if not used in a certain amount of time..have not witnessed this myself as I always turn them off if not using for more than a few minutes! I give these a 10/10 and I am extremely glad I was lucky enough to afford them, I hope my review was of help and if not please message me/leave a comment so I can work on what wasn't good. Colpol!
I have never been able to get perfect curls! and have tried many times, until i used the Pearl Wand by Remington. So easy and simple to use. No more hassle trying to twist your hair around the big bulky curling tongs, no more clamping your fingers by accident. When i saw this product i was slightly confused as to how it would work, but once i tried it out quickly when i got home on a section of my straight 'un curlable' hair- it just worked! It heats up within seconds and you can select the temperature on the digital screen , all the way up to 210°C! Select a section of your hair, thin or thick, and whilst holding the wand down vertically, just begin twisting your hair from root to tip around the wand, the wand is a nice length and thickness and also has a cool tip so you can secure the tip of your hair with your fingers, so it really is very easy to do without burning yourself! Then literally after a few seconds, just let go of the hair and pull the wand away- and there you have it! a perfect curl! I now use it quite often, and it doesn't take as long as it used to take with the 'old school' curling tongs. I can curl my whole head of hair within 20 mins? Also i find that only spraying a bit of hairspray on once its all done is enough to last me the whole day/night. Rather than spraying a load on each strand of hair you curl! roughly around £25
