I bought these as I needed some new straighteners (mine had died mid straighten on me) and was against paying a fortune for a pair of GHD's or other designer brand.
I spotted these at a reduced price in boots and snapped em up quick.
I have had them for 5 years and they are still as good as new. I love them, take them everywhere I travel and use them almost everyday.
With three heat and thickness levels, they heat up super quick and straighten to perfection.
I couldn't be happier and will femininely not be changing them anytime soon, worth every penny and in brilliant red, they are every girls perfect hair assessory.
My boyfriend (now ex) bought these for me when my old hair straighteners kicked the bucket. As a teenager I wanted a pair of GHD but unfortunately couldn't afford them. These were recommended to me by a sales assistant and I know think she was secretly and angle because these were a godsend!
> The Straightener <
It works on heat ranges from very fine, fine, medium and thick. I have fine hair but used a medium setting since my hair is naturally wavy. In no time my hair was nice and straight and I was ready to hit the town, I didn't have to constantly go over and over my hair, it was one simple swoop and I was done. Being bleached blonde as well my hair can get very dry and frizzy but these straighteners managed it and my hair didn't burn to the extreme and the frizz was reduced.
My friends who have ringlet and afro hair have used these and even they said they work just as good as their GHDs. One of them even bought a pair rather than another GHD set (her GHDs had broke).
It has a turn off system which was brilliant for me because I am always in a rush and then worrying about whether I turned off my straighteners.
It is bright red so it stands out from other straighteners. Although, heck, who cares what colour we just want them to work, they are easily noticeable and easy to point out to other people.
> Methods <
The best way to use them I believe is for simply straightening. Personally I found that these weren't the best if you wanted to curl your hair with them. Whenever I tried to do it my hair seemed to get caught or I wasn't able to pull it through so I would have a kink.
> Comparison <
Let's face it whenever you say straightener you think GHD. GHD are the top of the range straighteners because they are so well known. Every straightener is always going to be compared to the GHD. However I have had both these and GHDs and I would say that they are literally the same, maybe GHD coming on top.
> Overall <
If you don't want to break the bank and want a straightener that really works and works well I would go for Nicky Clarke.
When my GHD stylers gave up the ghost after 7 years, I couldn't afford another pair and decided on these ones mainly because they were on half price in boots. The price I believe is around £90 (depending on which shop you buy from) but with half off that became very affordable, and I have seen these same straighteners on offer quite a few times in boots since so it is worth checking the website for an offer. I am very glad I gave them a try because I prefer them to my old GHDs, though that could be because they were 7 years old and these are brand new.
My hair is naturally wavy and with my old straighteners I found myself going over my entire head of hair at least 4 times just to get it to be straight and sleek, but with these I only have to straighten the entire head once. I have also found it lasts me all day or night. As for the day after using these I usually have to quickly touch it up but that takes less than a minute with these straighteners.
I like the look of this product, I like the speediness, I like the straight and sleek effect it gives my hair, and I like how it keeps my hair straight all day. The only downside to this product is that I have gotten my hair stuck in the heated plates a few times, though this is probably my own fault for not being careful!
I received these hair straighteners as a birthday gift, needless to say I was thrilled upon getting hair straighteners however I was ecstatic once I began to use them. The rich red colour automatically deters it from the usual black straighteners. The red effect oozes sexy which mirrors the effect it has on your hair. This hair straightener has the ability to straighten all types of hair due to its temperature controls which range from fine-max. Not only does it cater to every hair types need, it is also safe due to only staying on for an hour and a half. This gives the owner enough time to use the straighteners, it also avoids panic attacks when you realise you forgot to turn them off as they will automatically turn off themselves. The straighteners are extremely easy to use and are lightweight! I can always rely on these, I have had them for 4 years and can't bring myself to part with them!
Let me start by saying that I have unruly hair like the ones on the adverts, which means i need a really good pair of straighteners, otherwise it takes hours for my hair to look slightly straightened.
The first time I used these straighteners I was quite impressed actually. I previously had GHD's but the had broke and didn't really want to pay out for a new pair. so i went for these.
First thought when I opened the box was that the look quite stylish. They have switch allowing you to change the temperature, so if you have fine hair you can have it on a low heat and a higher heat for thicker hair.
They also heat up really quickly, which is good when you're in a rush to get out of the house. I would advise though that from experience the can stay warm once you've turned them off for some time, so you're probably better off with a heat resistant mat to put them on once you've done.
I found this straightener to be wonderful in its use - however there are a few minor down sides to it.
Firstly, it heats to a brilliant temperature, and tends not to snag on hair (therefore breaking it), although that's not to say that it never does it. It has a long cord which is very useful if sockets aren't in the most convenient places, but also means it can get tangled quite easily. I must say though, that a heat proof mat is an essential, as these straighteners don't have a plastic stand as some do, so if you put them down and start to style your hair, they topple over, and can be a fire hazard, or at the very least singe the dressing table surface.
They have a premium look and feel to them, even with them being plastic.
All in all, very good value for money and minimizes frizz, which is something I personally have a problem with.
I bought these straighteners for my daughter over a year ago. She has used them almost every day and really loves them. She has shoulder length, thick, fine hair and finds they not only straighten her hair quickly and effectively, but because the barrel of the product is rounded she can also use them to put curl into her hair too. In fact, she has become extremely adept at using these straighteners and uses them to complete a variety of styles.
I have borrowed them occasionally too and find them very user friendly. My hair slides over the plates smoothly without the snagging you get from some straighteners and my hair is always left silky, soft and straight in moments. Using them for curling purposes, I've managed to add curl and volume to my hair with surprisingly little effort.
The straighteners heat up quickly and provide a heat of up to 230 degrees C for a really professional result. The product has an adjustable dial by the inner pivot so you can choose fine, medium or thick as the setting. The on/off button is seated next to the dial.
The straighteners also have a lovely long power cord (over 2.5 metres) so there is no need to worry about sitting right next to the plug socket when you are styling.
According to the product details it has 'Nano silver and tourmaline coated plates' which are designed to help prevent frizz and 'advanced ceramic floating plates' to leave hair straight. It has an auto shut off for extra safety. It is mains operated.
On the Nicky Clarke website there are further hints and tips for creating styles using these straighteners. Nicky recommends you use a heat protection product when using the straighteners to avoid fly aways and over heating. Always ensure the straightener is moving down the hair to avoid leaving lines/straightener marks on the hair. Check out his website for more tips.
As with all products which produce heat the straighteners must be handled with care when using.
The red colour of these straighteners gives them a trendy and stylish appeal, they certainly produce great results and so far have been reliable and without issue. Would recommend.
They are currently available on Amazon for £64.61. (02/08/13)
I researched and bought these when my GHD's packed up. I couldn't justify forking out £100+ again and I am so pleased I did. These are easily as good and look great, I use them every day for my fringe and approx once a week for my whole head of hair. Fab product, really glides easily over my hair, not pulling and gives a great finish. They heat up really quick and shut themselves off after a certain period so no worries about burning the carpet.
These were on offer in Tesco for £35 and my other straighteners had just blown up - I thought there was no way they would be any good but as I have frizzy hair to tame on a daily basis I bought them and I'm absolutely thrilled with them! They have a little spinning disc which you can change depending on the thickness of your hair, this alters the temperature of the straighteners so that if you have really thin hair you are not blasting them with 220 degree heat! They heat up even faster than GHD's but dont seem to burn as much as GHDs do. They also have a switch themself off function which is great if you accidentally leave them on (although I obviously dont recommend you do that!). Seems to take a while for them to switch off but I would be annoyed if I wanted to use them for a long time and they kept switching off.
Overall, definite rival for GHD's. MY hair feels just as soft and smooth and if anything, less damaged! Great bargain and totally worth the gamble!
I have had a Nicky Clarke hairdryer before and I thought I would stick with this brand as I have been very satisfied with the results from other products. The straighteners in question are a gorgeous red colour, shiny and curvaceous. It has sleek black plates and a long black cord. They are light in weight and very easy to grip, even though my hands do get very hot when I use them. The highest heat they can reach is 230 degrees, which is plenty hot enough for my hair. I know most people will think that Nicky Clarke is not as good a brand as GHD, but I for one much prefer it. Nicky Clarke did a survey and the results were that 57% of women preferred Nicky Clarke Desired range than GHD. Personally, I think this is accurate, as so many people I have spoken to find that this is the brand they prefer. These straighteners have a dial on the side, which is very handy because it means you can adjust the amount of heat that comes into contact with your hair. I usually have mine set to the 'thicker' setting which is the higher temperature, because my hair is very stubborn and hard to straighten, but I can imagine that being able to adjust the setting in this manner would help people with fine hair because they could then make sure they are not doing too much unnecessary damage to their hair with the lower temperatures. I do use the 'medium' setting when I am trying out other styles, such as curling, or even crimping my hair. I have also noticed on my ones, that the plates move slightly when I run a lock of hair through them. I think this is to help get a smooth look in the hair, and I find my hair looks a lot smoother and sleeker when I am using the Nicky Clarke ones. Price wise, they weren't too bad at all, when I bought them they were half priced, but at the time, full price they would have been £80.00. At the moment, you can get them for around £40.00 or cheaper from a number of high street stores. To sum up, I think they are brilliant straighteners, and I would never go back to GHDs.
