My daughter's hair gets really tangled, every morning it is a nightmare to brush her hair and she cries her eyes out every day! We started using a de-tangling spray which helped immensely helped however was out of stock last time we went shopping. I looked for an alternative and this one caught my eye, it was £2.
I liked the look of it because it seemed to state is does the same job as her usual brand and it also said it was a head lice repellent. Excellent little extra with her starting school!
Sophie liked it because it had a princess on the front. Looked like this was going to be a winner!
We tried it out the next day, it says you can use on wet or dry hair, We did it on dry.
My daughter's and I had the same first reaction, the smell!!!
To be totally honest it stinks!! The only way I can think to describe it is a mixture between furniture polish and cat wee! Seriously!!
It didn't seem to help with any of the de - tangling. We might as well have just used a little squirt of water, in fact it wasn't even that good!
It also left her hair with a slight greasy look too. We were not impressed to say the least.
I thought maybe it was because we used it on dry hair, we attempted again on wet hair but had the same results.
Would not recommend!!
I bought this along with the matching shampoo when my daughter started nursery last June as a preventative measure. The spray was on offer for £2 in Tesco.
The spray comes in a green bottle with a clear lid and a pump action dispenser. The bottle contains 150ml of spray and the front of the bottle tells you that it is for pretty princesses and there is a picture of a pink princess on the front. This spray is aimed at little girls as it is a de tangling and a shine spray. There is a separate preventative spray which could be used for boys.
This spray has another function too it is a preventative for head lice and this was the main reason I bought it.
The bottle tells me that spray contains natural ingredients to help repel head lice: Citronella Oil, Eucalyptus Leaf Oil, Rosemary Leaf Oil &, Lemongrass Leaf Oil which are natural head lice repellents. In addition to these ingredients there are also added conditioners to de tangle the hair leaving it soft, shiny and easy to manage.
For best results you need to use this with the 3 in 1 shampoo from the same range.
To use the spray you simply apply to damp hair after shampooing and then comb through before styling as normal. You can also use this spray daily to de tangle and add extra protection.
This spray smells lovely, I really like it, it is fresh and the tea tree dominates it which I like. In terms of de tangling it does a pretty good job. My daughter has very long hair for a 2 year old it is down to her waist and can sometimes get tangled this helps to ease the comb through. After using this my daughter hair feels more manageable. I tie it up for nursery and I find it goes up easily and looks smoother after using this spray.
In terms of prevention of head lice fingers crossed we have had none so far. Other children in her nursery have had them so this could be working.
I would recommend this spray, it leaves hair clean and fresh smelling, helps to prevent head lice and also doesn't irritate the scalp in any way as the oils contained are natural.
I still alternate with other shampoos but this is my preferred choice for my daughter.
Ever since my daughter was small we have used a Vosene shampoo on her hair. As she has quite thick hair that does get long between haircuts, we bought some detangling spray to use after hair washing from the same range to try and reduce the amount of "Ow Mummy that hurts" I was beginning to here too frequently.
The vosene hair detangler comes in a light green solid bottle that fits in with the remainder of the Vosene range for kids. The design on the bottle also fits in with the range and is bright and colourful. I do think the packaging is aimed at girls rather than being unisex though with the princess image and the "Extra shine" message.
Finished with a pump action spray lid this looks as though it would be easy to apply when you first look at the bottle.
To use the detangling spray, the recommended method is to use on damp or dry hair. To add to damp hair then this is a way to finish off the hair washing process and for us was the first method we chose as I struggle to get a brush through after hair drying.
You can also use on dry hair between washes, but I was initially reluctant to try this as though it would clump the hair together. I was however willing to give it a go, anything that works would be a plus for my stress levels.
Using on wet hair, I sprayed quite liberally a good distance away from the hair, trying not to over spray in one area.
The first thing I noticed about the product was the smell. Despite having the same ingredients as the shampoo which are predominately tea tree oil and lemon eucalyptus which are designed to repel head lice, I thought the detangling spray was slightly over powering in terms of the eucalyptus. My daughter wasn't very impressed with the smell herself. We have never noticed this from the shampoo.
Once applied, I took the hair brush and proceeded to brush through. Unfortunately I was still met with the same protests of "Ow Mummy".
Hmm, why wasn't this working like I thought it would? After reading the bottle again, I made sure I had applied it correctly and I didn't have to wait for a certain period of time for it to work. Nope it says it should provide instant softness.
We proceeded gently with the hair brushing and carried on with the hair dryer. Unfortunately I don't think that this made my daughter's hair any shinier or softer, and certainly didn't help to detangle it. So my next choice was to try on dry hair.
Sadly when we used this on dry hair, I don't think it made that much difference at all to my daughter's hair. Perhaps her hair is just too thick for this product which is shame.
For the £2 or so you will spend on this, I don't think you'll spend any less time brushing the hair. For this reason I don't recommend this product at all and won't be buying it in the future.
WHAT IS IT?
A detangling spray for children that is also a head lice deterrent.
HOW DO YOU USE IT?
Spray on the hair then brush as normal. The spray comes out in a mist so will make the hair a bit damp but it dries very quick after it has been brushed.
WHAT I THINK
I do not like the strong smell and I think Vosene should not advertise it as being a pretty product because that makes you think it is going to have a nice feminine smell but it doesn't. The mist covers my daughters hair with only three sprays even though her hair is very long and thick.
I can brush it a lot easier than if I had not used the detangling spray but the effect is not as good as when I use a similar spray from Avon that also smells a lot better. There are sometimes small tangles and knots left in her hair but they are usually on the underneath where I have missed with the spray because even though it makes the hair wet it does not soak through very well.
It definately makes my daughters hair shinier but that effect does not last for very long and if she messes her hair up when she is playing the shine goes when I brush it again unless I use the spray. It doesn't make the hair greasy or feel any different once it has dried.
A 150ml bottle of Vosene Kids Extra Shine Detangler Spray costs about £2.29 and because you only need to use a little bit even on long hair it lasts for a long time. You do not have to use it every day only when there are more tangles than usual or if you are having trouble brushing them out.
3 Dooyoo Stars.
My daughter has really long and thick hair so we always use a detangler, a month or so ago we ran out of the detangler which we usually use and as it is from Avon I wasn't able to replace it straight away so I had to buy one from the supermarket instead.
The choice in the supermarket were all around the same price at about £2 per bottle and so since this one had the added bonus of being a nit repellent too I bought this one.
The product comes in a green plastic bottle containing 150mls of product , the top of the bottle has a pump spray on it and a small see through plastic cap to sit on top of it. On the front of the bottle it claims it is an extra shine detangling spray with added head lice repellent and it is suitable for daily use.
On the back of the bottle you have the instructions for use along with the science about how it works which I always think is complete rubbish as one product will never work for everyone no matter what the science is behind it. You can spray this onto damp hair and massage into scalp or you can spray it onto dry hair in between washes.
The first time we used the product was the last time we used the product, the product simply stinks in my opinion. The scent of the product reminds me of cat wee and even my 5 year old turned around and said "Mammy it stinks" We sprayed the product into wet hair and as it was a school morning even though it stunk I couldn't wash it out of my daughters hair so I had to comb it through instead.
The product I found to be useless, it was still very hard to comb through my daughters hair and I didn't feel it made it any easier than without using any product and as for extra shine I did not see any improvement to the shine on her hair.
Like I said above I believe there are no products which will work for everyone but this one was useless for us, it is an average price, didn't detangle her hair, didn't add any shine and stunk and unfortunately the smell remained on her hair too. I cannot comment if it is head lice repellent or not and really don't think anyone would be able to prove it one way or the other. I can only rate this 1 star as there was nothing good about it for my daughter.
I was recently selected to sample a new product in the Vosene kids range. I was sent a 50ml bottle of the extra shine detangler spray with head lice repellent. I used the sample on my daughters shoulder length hair and the bottle lasted approx a week.
The bottle itself is very clearly a Vosene product, it is a very vibrant green which i think really stands out. The spray nozzle is protected and covered by a clear snap on lid. Vosene is written in dark green in the middle of the bottle with the word Kids in purple underneath. The packaging is clearly aimed at young girls, with a picture of a pink princess in the right hand corner claiming it is for "pretty princesses" My daughter is currently going through a princess phase, so this really helped in her willingness to try the spray.
The back of the bottle explains that the spray can be used as a way to naturally prevent and repell head lice as it contains both tea tree oil and lemon eucalyptus. Whilst the detangling and conditioning ingredients soften, smooth and tame unruly hair. Furthermore it claims to leave "your little princess with the prettiest locks in the kingdom"
Along with the ingredients list there is directions for use.
How to use: Spray liberally onto washed hair whilst still damp and massage into scalp. Comb through and dry hair gently or allow to dry naturally. Also suitable for dry hair inbetween washes.
There is also a warning on the bottle advising that the tea tree may affect those with epilepsy and acute asthma sufferers. It is also not recommended for children under three years old. The bottle recommends using at least once a day to get maximum benefit. Once opened the product should be used within 12 months.
As mentioned before, I used the Vosene extra shine detangler spray on my 8 year old daughters shoulder length hair. My daughter absolutely hates getting her hair brushed and I had been on the look out for a good detangling spray for quiet sometime to make life that little bit easier. I applied the spray to her wet hair after her shower. I then blew dry her hair and must say it made brushing so much easier, the brush just glided through her hair. Once dried my daughters hair was left with a definate added shine that does not usually occur when just using her normal shampoo and conditioner. Her hair was knot and tangle free. I also applied the spray to her dry hair whilst styling it for school in the mornings. It made brushing much easier and the hair was more sleek, less fly-away and again left with an added shine. I must say there was a definite improvement after using the spray for only a few days.
Even just a few spritzes of the spray onto the hair leaves a very strong fragrance of tea tree and eucalyptus. Although this does fade, the smell still seems to last sometime and i could still detect a hint of it when she arrived back home after school. I am sure it would repell head lice, which is a big plus.
I was really impressed with this spray, it made brushing so much easier, and left the hair shiny and knot free as promised. Although a very strong smell, the added tea tree and eucalyptus will be sure to keep those pesky head lice away. It certainly left my little princess with the prettiest locks in the kingdom.
Vosene extra shine detangler spray with head lice repellent is avaliable in most supermarkets. A 150ml bottle approx costs £2.15.
