Purchased from Boots in their range of the mini tasters of their pricer hair care products, the Sleek & Chic was one of the couple I picked up. Taken in by it's bright blue tube and bold silver and black font, I was eager to try the sample.
Designed for all hair types, it promises a long lasting, salon straight, smooth finish. As somebody with naturally quite curly hair, I was skeptical. After my normal hair washing routine it recommended to increase the effectiveness I towel dry as much of the excess water out of my hair as possible. Then blending as evenly as possible through my damp hair, I cracked out the hairdryer and got to work with my paddle brush.
When I was finished I was pleased with the finished result, I still run my straighter over my fringe quickly, but it really did give a smooth and straight finish. I did notice as the day wore on the ends of my hair actually felt quite thick, but I feel this was to do with myself not distributing the product as well as possible.
While I'm pleased with this product, I wouldn't be inclined to purchase again. This is purely due to my preference for my hair looking glossy as well as straight, whereas this product gave my hair quite a matt finish.
For Christmas I received a set of mini's within the 'sleek and chic' range of Umberto Giannini and was highly unimpressed with the shampoo and conditioner. As such I didn't have very high expectations for this blow dry cream. I can't say I've ever used a blow dry cream before and although I had low expectations I was still looking forward to using it to see if it made any difference.
===Price and Availability===
My set was from boots and looking on their website I can't find my mini size (50ml) on there but the full sized product is 200ml and is currently £4.99 in boots. Boots currently have 2 for £7.50 on selected Umberto Giannini hair care products so it's worth stocking up. I have only ever seen this in boots but I would expect it wouldn't be too hard to find online.
The whole sleek and chic range seems to be characterised by simple blue packaging and this is no exception. This is in a tube with a flip top at the bottom which I find handy as the product is already towards the bottom of the tube and I don't have to spend ages trying to squeeze it out. The front contains the usual branding with the back giving instructions for use. This should be used within 24 months from first opening which I think is a good shelf life.
Personally I think that this cream has quite a strong scent and weirdly enough I think it smells just like Calvin Klein's Euphoria! Which personally I love so that's a good start straight away. This really is quite strong so I wouldn't recommend it for anyone who prefers more neutral smells as this would definitely seem too overpowering. The cream itself is white in colour and fairly thin in consistency but by no means too runny.
=== The claims and results ===
This cream is intended to give a 'long lasting, salon straight, smooth finish'. Instructions for use are simple enough - simply blend through damp hair evenly and blow dry with an extra tip to towel dry hair first to improve effectiveness. This is exactly what I did. After washing my hair I towel dried it before rubbing in around a 5p size blob of the cream. I think it is a little disappointing that there is no mention of how much of the product you should be using and I think this could potentially lead to people using too much, which in turn could lead to greasy locks. I only used a small amount and when running my fingers through my hair I didn't feel any greasiness, my hair felt just as it did without the cream in. when drying my hair I used my brush to aid me. When my hair was completely dry it was by no means salon straight, or particularly straight at all. My hair is fairly wavy so I wasn't expecting a dead straight look but it was definitely slightly straighter than usual. Straightening after using this also seemed to make a difference and my hair felt super soft to the touch. My favourite thing about this product though has got to be the fragrance - even after drying my hair the scent still lingers and it feels like i'm wearing lovely perfume.
Although I don't think that this gives you straight hair when you blow dry, I do think it is straighter once I have used straighteners afterwards - more so than if I had straightened without using this cream. It smells amazing (in my opinion) as I love the smell of euphoria. Overall I am going to remove one star because I'm not sure it entirely does what it says but it does a lot of other good things instead. 4/5 from me.
Thanks for reading.
I also own the Straightening Shampoo from this Sleek and Chic range (see my other review), and while I am not a fan of that at all, thankfully this product is a lot better.
There is a 50ml mini version available, but the main tube (if that's the right word) contains 200ml. This costs around £4.99 - fairly standard for products such as this.
It comes in bright blue packaging with silver writing, and stands with the flip-top lid at the bottom so that the product is easily dispensed.
The blurb states that it: 'contains Vitamin B5 to help give even the most brittle locks smooth and sleek control, leaving hair poker straight.'
I have naturally curly hair but crave straight hair (isn't that always the way) and have been on the search for the perfect blow dry cream or serum for many years. I have stuck with this one for a couple of years now as it's amongst the best I have tried. I used to use Sunsilk Silky & Straight Leave In Cream which I loved but this seems to have been discontinued. This is an adequate replacement.
The product itself is a runny white liquid which can drip off your hands once you squeeze it out if you're not careful. You only need a SMALL amount - maybe the size of a 20p piece. I give it a quick rub between my hands and then apply it very sparingly to my mid-lengths and ends - I never put it near the roots as I hate the feeling of product on my roots.
The cream goes onto your damp hair easily, and then can be combed through with no fuss. Once you dry your hair, you can't feel that you have put anything on your hair, but your hair will feel tamed and less frizzy. If you are then using hair straighteners, you will find that your hair straightens more easily.
The cream doesn't make your hair go greasier quicker, and you won't be aware of it on your hair.
£4.99 may seem a lot but the current tube of this I have must have lasted me nearly a year now, with no signs of running out any time soon.
I wouldn't be put off from trying a different straightening product should one come onto the market, but I am very happy with this one for the time being.
This cream was brought for me in a set with the shampoo and conditioner as a birthday present.
Having never used this brand before I wasn't sure what to expect. I had also never tried a blow drying cream before. I had previously tried sprays and had no luck so decided to stick to using straightners to acheive the result I wanted. My hair is has a tendancey to dry kinky and fluffy hence the need for straightners if i'm not curling it.
This product is to be applied once you have dried of excess water with a towel but before you blow dry your hair. You do not need to use much of this product in order for it to work. Simply squeeze a small dollop (bout the size of a malteser) on to your hand then rub through your hair. Then blow dry as you would normally.
I was amazed with the results. When coupled with the shampoo and conditioner as I use my hair is poker straight, shiny and soft and I have no need to use my straightners therefore saving on damage to my hair. I also found that my hair didnt re-frizz throughout the day when using this product.
I have not tried this product in conjunction with a different brand of shampoo and conditioner but I have confidence this product would still work well.
Its ideal size and packaging to take away with you and the product does last a long time therefore working out good value for money.
I would recommend any one try this and the Umberto brand.
Hope you find this useful.
Umberto Giannini Sleek and Chic Blow-dry Cream.....
Having hair that can being wither curly or straight but has natural waves is rather nice as I switch from style to style with relative ease. However to create a lovely straight hair style, I have to rely on really good products that work well and this is why I choose to buy this Umberto Giannini Sleek and Chic Blow Dry Cream time and time again.
For £4.89 pence you get a good 150 ml of product and compared to other products that are made to do the same job this price is pretty reasonable. There is always some sort of special offer on with the Umberto Giannini products in Boots such as buy 3 for 2 which I tend to take full advantage of and stock up on all my favourite products.
The design of the bottle is very good as the lid is positioned at the base and the bottle stands on it. This means that all the cram inside falls down to the lid and once the top is flipped off the product flows easily and when the last few drops of product are left these are easy used up.
The cream itself is rather thick in consistency and has a slight blueish tinge to it. There is not much smell to the product but what is there is very light and clean smelling. On my very first use of this product I used way too much and now I realise that a small amount of this Sleek and Chic Blow Dry Cream really does go a long way.
The product is designed for use after the hair has been washed and towel dried lightly. You then need only a 20 pence piece size of the cream in the palm of you hand which I then always rub both of my hands together to make sure that the cream is distributed evenly throughout the ends of my hair. I start to apply the light coating of cream to the ends and ten even lighter to the mid section of hair. The cream itself feels very heavy on the hair which is why you have to be so careful not to use too much as the hair can easily take on a greasy appearance when dry.
Once I have lighted applied the cream to my hair I then blow dry it and then straighten it using straightening irons. The final result is really very good and when I have chosen not to use this product I can really notice the condition. The Blow Dry Cream leaves my hair with a nice feel and a slight shine along with giving my hair a little more weight and encouraging the hair to stay smooth and straight for pretty much all day.
The tube says that the cream is designed to work on even the most curliest of hair and also that the product is not tested on animal which means it is more suitable for a wider range of people and this is always a good thing.
Personally I find that all the Umberto Giannini products work really well for my hair be it the curly range or indeed this straight hair range. The products are affordable and do last for a good amount of time, making them very good value for money.
I rate this product so well that I have not used another straightening cream or balm since trying this one and will probably never change brands as I feel I get everything I could want from this product so feel no reason for a change.
I think a score of 5 out of 5 stars and a recommendation is well in order!
Many thanks for taking the read
I do hope that this has been of some help/interest to you.
