TRESemme Iron Style and Hold Spray is part of the Thermal Creations range that the brand created for heat treated hair. I bought a 250 ml bottle on offer for £2.64 but normally it costs £5.39 in my local Boots. ----- What is it supposed to do? ----- This spray is specially formulated to work with styling irons, which can heat up to very high temperatures. No wonder that hair gets damaged if it's constantly in contact with a 250oC hot plate. This spray is supposed to stick to the hair and coat it with a protective layer so that there is no direct contact of hair and the hot plate and therefore the hair doesn't get damaged so easily. In addition, this product claims to add lasting shine thanks to its heat-activated nourishing complex (includes panthenol, niacinamide and biotin) and to provide hold for the hairstyle. ----- Packaging ----- This spray comes in a simple 250 ml black bottle, which unfortunately is not see-through, and a red spray pump. The bottle doesn't take much space on the shelf. On the front of the bottle there is information about the product's vitamin-enriched formula that protects against heat damage; there is also an image of heat appliances: hair dryer, straightener and curling iron, so you know this spray can be used with any of these styling appliances. The back of the bottle holds more information about the purpose of this spray, how to use, ingredients and that it should be used within 12 months of opening. ----- How to apply? ----- Spray generously 6-8 inches away from hair covering from mid shaft to ends. This product will work if you apply it on damp hair before blow-drying or on dry hair before straightening or curling. ----- My experience ----- I use a straightening iron often and when I do, I have no mercy for my hair. It is naturally frizzy, so I use the highest temperature setting on my straightener, which I believe is 250oC, and then ignore instructions for using the straighteners by holding the plates on my hair for longer than I am supposed to. Before I bought this heat protection spray, my hair was very dull and broke much more easily, but now it seems to have improved a lot and is shinier. I must add here, if you haven't read my previous review, that I also bought a shampoo from TRESemme's Thermal Creations range, so in combination, both products must have helped. I like this spray because it doesn't leave any residue on the hair, it smells very nice and is colourless. After the application, my hair isn't any more greasy, sticky or other. The spray comes out as a wet heavy mist and you need a lot of this to cover all hair as the mist doesn't have a good range of coverage. The spray pump still works well and I have never had problems with it. Regarding the application, there is one aspect of the Iron Style and Hold Spray that I don't like. The product is a very thin liquid and when I apply it, it makes my hair much damper than I would have liked to. I have to wait a few minutes until it is absorbed or dries before I can use my straighteners. Otherwise, it heats up in contact with the plates and creates an unpleasant hissing noise and also a lot of hot vapour that can burn my hands. For this reason, I often only apply it before blow drying and then style my hair with the iron without re-applying the spray. This is a very well lasting product - unfortunately you cannot tell exactly how much of the contents is still left because the bottle is not see-through. I have been using this product regularly (2-3 times a week) for the last 12 months and it has only now finished, so this seems very good value. Finally, my comment regarding the hold properties of this spray. I noticed it helps slightly with styling but the effect is nowhere near long lasting. Especially in windy and rainy weather, my hair goes back to its frizzy self very quickly. In my case, the spray has no effect on my hairstyle staying intact for longer than it would be without it. ----- Ingredients ----- You will not find the ingredients list for this product online, so I have included the list below as it appears on the bottle because the product may contain allergenic ingredients: Aqua (Water), Sodium Polystyrene, Sulfonate, Propylene Glycol, Hydroxypropyltrimonium Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein, PEG-12 Dimethicone, Panthenol, Benzophenone-4, Tocopheryl Acetate, Ascorbic Acid, Niacinamide, Biotin, Polysorbate, 20, Tridecth-9, PEG-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Triethanolamine, Disodium EDTA, DMDM Hydatoin, Phenoxyethanol, Geraniol, Amyl Cinnamal, Citronellol, Cinnamal, Limonene, Parfum (Fragrance). I must add here that I have never experienced an allergic reaction from this product. My scalp is not that sensitive, but my hands are in contact with this spray a lot (they are very sensitive and prone to eczema) and I haven't observed any unwanted effects from it on my skin. ----- Summary ----- Seems to work well protecting my hair from the heat and for this reason I can recommend it for someone else to try out. Heat protection was the main reason why I bought this spray, so it gets points from me for this. It is slightly expensive for what it does - I would be happier if it only promised heat protection, instead of hold that is doesn't provide. Although it is not a bad product, I will probably buy something else next time just to see whether I can find a product that holds the style for longer.
