I really like the Original Source range of shower gels. For not a lot of money their unusual combinations smell just as good as the more premium brands. The shampoos are also in the lower price bracket but again they perform just as well as most other shampoos only with less traditional fragrances. Just like with their shower gels my favourite one is the tea tree and mint one. It has the same zingy smell and feel as the shower gel but is better for using on my hair and scalp. The shampoo is a green colour and it has a really strong medicinal tea tree smell to it but the scent of mint also comes through quite strongly as well and this is before even lathering the shampoo up. You don't need a lot of the shampoo to get a thick lather and because I only have short hair I really do just need a tiny amount to lather my entire head. I often get an itchy scalp and I find that this is quite soothing for it and the mint and tea tree really help to cool it down and help with the itch. It leaves my scalp sort of tingling after using it which is a really weird but not unpleasant sensation. It cleans my hair great too without being too drying or harsh. I wear a lot of strong wax and clay in my hair to style it and keep it in place. Sometimes this can leave my hair looking and feeling a bit like it has been overloaded with product and in need of a good scrub especially when I have been using a lot of the mud like clay. This normally gets rid of all the product that is in my hair with one wash and I very rarely find myself needing to have to wash it twice to get rid of all the gunk in my hair. The smell is absolutely amazing with this shampoo and it is really refreshing and invigorating. This combined with the shower gel really wakes me up in the mornings and gives me a bit of a lift and is a good way to start the day and help get rid of the cobwebs. It also leaves my hair smelling fresh and clean for the whole day with a subtle hit of the fragrance of the shampoo still evident hours later on in the day. While writing this review I googled to check the price and read that this particular shampoo has been discontinued. I only bought a bottle a couple of months ago from my local poundland and had I known I would have stocked up on some more as I really do think it is a good shampoo and for it is a real shame that Original Source has decided to no longer make it.
I use different shampoos depending on the day or what I want from my hair. If I know I am just going to pull it back and not bother straightening it then I will use a cheap shampoo as I don't need to really get a lot out of my hair. However, if I want to make my hair look nice and really give it a bit of TLC I try a nicer shampoo and conditioner. This shampoo is one I have used over the years and like to use it a day or two before a big night out as I find it really wakes my hair up and gives it a great boost with lots of shine. I also find I scratch my head a lot, I know its a nervous thing and I do it when I'm stressed but I find at times my head gets quite sore and this really cools it down and soothes it too with the cooling power of mint that I love. Original Source products are some of my favourites because as the name suggests they source out original products to use in their shampoos, conditioners, shower gels etc to make them smell amazing and also to work well on your body, skin and hair. The smell of some of their products is amazing and this smell is one of my favourite. This Original Source Tea tree and Mint Shampoo is something I will use in the mornings if I really need to give my hair a wake up call, get it all fresh and smelling great. The mint in this shampoo is amazing, its really very strong so you have to like mint. I can also detect the fragrance of tea tree oil. I use this in a lot of different products, such as the spot treatment from The Body Shop and I love the way tea tree oil really helps to heal my skin and I can definitely feel it working on my scalp too which is why I think it feels so nice after use. Original Source say, "Give your scalp an all day breeze with our Mint and Tea Tree Shampoo. Every head should experience the monty power of this shampoo at least once and when it comes to clearing the cobwebs when you wake up, this shampoo never fails to hit the spot and liberate your mind from foggy limbo. Few things have as much pep as peppermint, and this will give your roots and airways a stimulation they won't forget in a hurry. Better than a coffee, better than a blast from a lightly chilled spritzer, this little beauty will leave your hair feeling fresh as a daisy all day long. Buzzing with revitalising fresh mint extracts and bursting with healing tea tree oil, its so intense it puts every other mint shampoo to shame. Your hair will thank you for it. The shampoo also makes my hair nice and soft and really manageable too which is why I like to use it before a big day or night out. Trouble is, I find this shampoo quite hard to find sometimes and haven't used it for ages now as its not always stocked in Boots so when I do find it I stock up or I have found it for sale on Amazon from time to time. A beautiful shampoo from Original Source.
I have to admit that I have been pinching my boyfriend's shampoo as my Lush 'Big' shampoo has now run out and as I am poverty stricken at the moment I have been grabbing whatever bottle has been on the side, and this so happened to be the 'Original Source Mint & Tea Tree Daily Refresh shampoo". I hadn't used this brand for many years simply out of habit of using other favourites, but after using the Mint & Tea Tree again I remembered how wonderful it was. The Original Sauce brand prides itself on producing shampoo's shower gels and body scrubs packed full of natural ingredients. All their products are 'packed with natural stuff' (Original Source website) and are filled to the brim with various pure and natural oils and extracts from different fruits, leaves, flowers, plants and tree's. The range has a good selection of products to suit everyone's tastes and needs. Each shampoo is sold in a tapered bottle, with a nozzle at the bottom where the shampoo will squeeze out from. The bottles are semi-transparent, with just a slight 'cloudy appearance. This means you can see the colour of the shampoo inside which is a nice touch. The bottles are simple on design and generally have black writing on them along with the name of the product in the same colour as the shampoo, shower gel or scrub inside. On the back of the bottles is directions of use and a full list of ingredients. The "Mint and Tea Tree Daily Refresh Shampoo" is a bright mint green in colour, and as soon as you open the lid a waft of tea tree and mint hit you! You are told to simply apply to wet hair, lather, rinse and repeat if necessary. As you apply to damp hair you are surrounded in a strong minty aroma, combined with the Tea Tree scent it really wakes you up. The shampoo lathers up quickly into a rich foamy lather and rinses out easily and quickly. As you use the shampoo your scalp also begins to tingle and feels perhaps even slightly cold with the sensation, it really does do the trick to awaken both your scalp and mind! This tingly and refreshing sensation is due to the combination of the intense mint and tea tree ingredients. Mint is renowned for being able to clear the airways and your senses while also being used in the treatment of aching muscles. Tea Tree is then known to increase attention, be anti-bacterial, anti-septic and anti-viral. These two main ingredients combine to create a powerful intoxicating experience for both your scalp and your mind! Now, along with these tingly refreshing results the shampoo is also great for your hair. After even just the first use I noticed my hair felt soft and very clean once dry, and smelled minty fresh all day. My long hair was also not tangled up after use even though a few times I have bypassed the conditioner. My hair feels manageable and cared for. I think this shampoo is great to really cleanse and clarify your hair and seems to strip out all the product you may have used whilst still being gentle on those locks! My boyfriend soon noticed his Original Source stash depleting as I nabbed it so I have since by trying the other shampoo's, conditioners and shower gels in the range and they all seem to be great. The bottles are generally priced between £1 & £2 each which is quite cheap and the range is regularly on offer somewhere, often on 2 for £2, or buy one get one free promotions. The products also last a good while and a bottle lasted me a month with daily use which is really good value for money. Not only a fab smelling and tingly experience but great hair care as well!
Nothing took away my itchy scalp like this and my hair is in wonderful condition now again YAY! Be careful not to get this in your eyes lol. The effects are really amazing and its actually soothing and fresh. I'm so glad I found this dude on ebay who has some of this in stock. Its running out so I'm stocking up as much as poss. Cheers
This outstanding shampoo is one that I have used for many years. At first it produced an amazing and delightful tingling sensation on the scalp, but by the end of the first bottle this ceased to occur. My hair was never in such good condition until I started using this product. I have recently learnt that it is to be discontinued, which is a great shame, but fortunately I have been able to get a substantial stock to tide me over the next few years. For some reason it was always difficult to find on supermarket shelves despite the presence of many other of Original Source's products.
I have used Original Source Mint and Tea Tree Shampoo on a number of occasions and it's something that does still to this day end up in my shopping trolley sometimes! It comes in a fairly uninspiring plastic bottle, but the colour of the shampoo does stand out as it is a deep lime green colour that does jump off the shelf - and it looks how you would expect mint and tea tree shampoo to look. A 250ml bottle costs just £1.00 from Tescos with is fantastic value in my opinion! To use it is fairly standard as in most shampoos - simply wet hair, apply a small amount of the shampoo onto my hair, lather and rinse. When I apply the shampoo, the first thing that I note is that the smell of the shampoo is absolutely delicious.....fresh, tangy and overwhelmingly smelling of peppermint and tea tree oil. I would say the smell is more of mint than the tea tree oil, but they both combine perfectly together to give a beautifully strong and fresh aroma. The shampoo lathers well on my head and I only need to use a little bit to get enough lather. The firstly sensation is one of aroma - and the second sensation is one of coolness and freshness on my scalp - which really feels very refreshing. It's almost like a burning sensation.....but a pleasant burning sensation if that makes sense! The shampoo is rinsed easily from my hair and there doesn't feel like there is any residue left over once I have rinsed. I like the way this shampoo makes my hair feel - in as much as it does feel squeaky clean, but it also wakes me up and helps me to feel ready for the day. I have a sensitive scalp but my scalp does not react negatively to this product. Overall, I really like it and think it really is one of the better shampoos out there.
I am a massive fan of Original Source and use their range of shower gels but have an absolute favourite in the Mint and Tea Tree variety thanks to the amazing tingle and fesh feel it gives you making it about a sensation more than just a cleansing regime so when I found out about the shampoo I simply had to get this as soon as possible but was it worth it? Pros: Great value shampoo from Original Source that does not take too much each time so it will last...don't just look at the price overall and be put off as it really does last a fair amount of time. Makes your hair feel and smell amazing. With the Mint and Tea Tree you get a tingling sensation so leave it on for a little bit to allow it to work properly. I suffer with some skin problems and so this is a great thing for me to use as it has been a massive help and has improved my scalp condition. Great bottle shape making it easy to handle and pour as much or as little as you like. Good consistency of shampoo so that not too thick so will still froth up but also not too wattery making it not feel like it is cleaning at all. Negatives: None This is a shampoo I picked up with a hope it may give you the same sensation as the shower gel and I have not been let down as it has that same tingle and amazing sensation. It provides you a refreshing uplift and makes your hear and head feel clean and fresh.
I recently was on holiday in the gorgeous Turkey and I picked up this shampoo from Boots at Newcastle Airport on the way out for about £2. I am familiar with Original Source shower gels but did not realise that they also make shampoos and conditioners. I absolutely love the Mint Original Source shower gel, the perfect thing to wake you up in the morning so I was intrigued to find out what their other products were like. The bottle is the familiar Original Source shape and the shampoo is bright green. As everyone knows Turkey is a very hot place to holiday, when I was there temperatures reached a sweltering 38 degrees!! So needless to say a day at the beach left one very hot and sweaty. I usually use a more intensive shampoo and conditioner but this did the job just fine. The shampoo has very strong smell of mint which I always feel is a very fresh clean smell perfect for using after a day at the beach. After using my hair felt very clean and smelled absolutely lovely. There is however one thing about this shampoo that separates it from any I have used in the past. I found that the shampoo was spectacularly cooling on my scalp to the point where I even felt cold after using it. This is the perfect thing to take on a hot holiday as it will remove the beach grime from your hair and leave you feeling unbelievably refreshed and cool.
I am a great fan of the Original Source products, and am gradually working my way through the range. One of my favourite products thus far is their White Pear and Avocado shampoo, which, as with all the company's offerings, smells natural and divine, and lives up to its promise. With the success of this, when I saw the Tea Tree and Mint shampoo in my local pound shop I had to try it out. It was quite an experience. The bottle is vaguely triangular shape, like other products in the range, and this shampoo is a deep mint green, almost clear. The shampoo smells intensely minty - zingy and fresh and exactly as you would hope based on the name of the shampoo. I dispensed a small handful of the product onto my wet hair, and proceeded to massage it into my scalp. Almost immediately my head began to tingle, and this sensation escalated rapidly until I began to feel as though the top of my head had been submersed in liquid nitrogen. I have never felt anything quite like that before, even from other mint-based shampoos that promise a tingling feeling. Rather than finding it refreshing however, it was just too much and I didn't want to leave the shampoo on for long. That is not the worst of it, however. When it was time to wash the lather out of my hair I submerged my head to rid it of the shampoo. What I did not know was that the water was now potent with the tea tree and mint concoction. Thus, when just a small amount of water got into my eyes, I found that the stinging sensation that resulted was incredibly painful. It felt as though my eyeballs were going to fizz out of my head. This is incredible considering the shampoo must have been considerably diluted by the bath full of water. I found that not much shampoo was required to leave my hair feeling clean and fresh, even though the scent of the shampoo, intense in the bottle, did not remain on my hair for long at all. It is the potent nature of it however, that would deter me from ever purchasing this product again. Use with caution!
Original source Mint and Tea Tree daily refresh shampoo comes in a clear trapezoid shaped bottle, the lid on the top is a black flip lid that can be quite fiddly to open while in the shower, luckily the bottle has a rounded back that is textured this helps you to grip the bottle. The first thing I noticed about the shampoo was its vivid green colour; the second thing was the intensive mint smell. I thought that this was a strange choice of perfume for a shampoo; mint is usually a smell I associate with toothpaste, mouthwash and little old ladies (Trebor extra strong mints). I thought I'd give this a go anyway as the shampoo is suitable for all hair types. The back of the bottle states that they have stuffed 7927 mint leaves in to this scalp tingling shampoo, and to be honest I seriously believe this claim, the aroma really packs a punch. The label goes on to say that it leaves your hair fresh and clean and works to remove product build up and improve the condition of your hair, These are some mighty claims from one little bottle. There is also a warning on the back that the shampoo is packed with essential oils and may not be suitable for your skin type, it also advises to avoid your eyes. The consistency of the product is rather thick, like the green slime you can buy in tubs from the pound shop toy section. I use a peaked blob slightly larger then a fifty pence piece size as my hair is thick and long (half way down my back) I then massage this into wet hair, the shampoo lathers up instantly and the smell of mint is quite overwhelming, the first time I used this shampoo the smell made me feel a bit sickly. The lather rinses away easily and leaves my hair feeling squeaky clean. The mint doesn't really make my scalp tingle but it makes the back of my neck feel cold as though I've rubbed deep heat on it and then someone blows across it. The first time I used this shampoo it also had a strange effect on my eyes, the same way Vicks does and I must have got some water in my mouth while rinsing as my mouth felt minty too!!!! After I used this shampoo the first time I swore blind I would not use it again, but being the savvy shopper I am I did not want to throw it away and therefore waste my hard earned pennies. I have used this shampoo a couple more times and have not been so overwhelmed by the mintieness, I think this is because I know what to expect from the product now. To be honest I have not smelt the tea tree in this shampoo, I think the mint thoroughly wipes it out. When my hair has dried it is a bit fly away without conditioner and the mint smell sticks around till I wash my hair again the next day, my husband has commented on the mint smell, he thought I'd got tooth paste in my hair. I don't really like the mint smell and am quite aware of the aroma around me if I go out in public just after a shower, when the bottle runs out I won't be using it again. I have also warned other members of my family off from using it as I worry about them getting it in there eyes, my daughter also suffers from eczema and I think this product would be far to strong for her sensitive skin. My husband and son tend to use the first bottle they see in the shower and this being a manly green colour I would not like them to mistake it for shower gel!!! As with all original source products it is vegan friendly and approved of by the aromatherapy council, the bottle is fully recyclable. In conclusion I would not recommend this product even though it leaves my hair clean and soft the aroma is just to intense for me, I'll finish the bottle and I won't by it again, I usually like original source products but this one is not for me. Thank you for reading X
I always buy this for my other half, last week I run our of shampoo so I decided to give it a go! I normally pick this up in Wilkinsons where it is normally a £1 for 250ml. You can also get this in supermarkets and Boots down the shampoo isle. I am a huge fan of the shower gel of the same fragrance and this shampoo has the same scent. The shampoo itself comes in a see through bottle and it has a black flip lid, the shampoo is green in colour. Original source describe this as a daily refresh shampoo. It is suitable for all hair types and contains 100% natural essential oils. You use this in the same way as other shampoos, you simply wet your hair dispense an amount the size of a 50p and massage into your hair. The first thing you notice when you dispense this is the intense minty smell. It is really nice and refreshing. As you massage this into your scalp you also get a tingly feeling. You get a good lather from this and it rinses very well. Even after rinsing you can still smell the mint. I also used the conditioner with this shampoo. After drying my hair I noticed the distinct smell of mint which lasted for most of the day. My hair felt rather soft and conditioned. I was quite suprised as this is so cheap to buy. I would definately use this again as a quick fix, I was pleased with how my hair looked and felt. It was also very manageable. I normally have very dry hair cause by too much heat styling and highlighting! I would recommend this particularly for those with sensitive scalps as the oils are known for their antibacterial properties so this is great if you have a flaky scalp. I would give this 4 out of 5, It is a bargain to buy and is suitable for men and women!
When I first applied this product I thought it was nice as it was a nice minty fresh smell and it immediately lathered up well. However, as some of the soapy water spilled down over my face I experienced a strange, kind of numb, feeling around my eyes. Not painful I must add, but definitely not very pleasant. I couldn't wait to rinse it off and the weird tingling numb sensation still lasted for a while. It did clean my hair well - dried it out a little more than some products - but it felt clean. However, I found the minty smell to be a bit too much - my hair towel still smelled of mint after several washes with another product. Might be nice first thing on a clammy morning if you need refreshing/waking up, but its not for me as I am really not keen on the cold sensation it gives and I won't be buying it again.

I spent a lot of many on shampoos claiming to help with itchy scalps, product build-up etc although I never had any luck with these shampoos. I then stumbled across Original Source Mint and Tea Tree shampoo at boots at a brilliant price. Only £1! Looking at the price, I felt as though the product may be of cheap quality, however I still ended up buying it. (Its not like any of the expensive shampoos I had purchased were making any difference to my hair and scalp). That day I decided to use it. It was in a nice bottle and the green liquid color was quite appealing.(for the price the packaging was very decent). The bottle is quite big and can last you a very long time. When I first opened the lid, I was welcomed to a very strong yet attractive scent. It was a minty smell and made me want to apply it to my hair immediately. So without further a do, I decide to put it on. After having bad experience with shampoos and building up a good lather, I had instantly thought that this shampoo would give me the same problem. I applied a generous amount, and rubbed it in gently. I was amazed to know that the amount I applied was more than enough to create a decent lather. After washing it out, I felt a strange tingle in my scalp. I felt very fresh and revitalized and knew that it had to be working. A while later my hair felt very smooth and for once in my life there were no flakes in my hair! I carried on using the shampoo, and as days went by I noticed that the flakes were completely gone! No flakes, and my hair felt smooth and silky. My hair, after using this product, always smelled nice and I never had a problem with dandruff thereafter. I do have to say however, that my hair felt dry on occasions. My hair is naturally very dry, but for some reason I felt my hair was dryer after using this shampoo for a while. Therefore it is necessary to buy the Original Source Mint and Tea Tree conditioner, which is also at the same price, to moisturize the hair. ===== Rating ===== Effectiveness: 9/10 Price: 10/10 Smell: 8/10 Packaging: 8/10 *Also posted on ciao under the same username (top-reviewz) *
I love mint and all things that have that clean refreshing smell so when the original source hit Morrisons at just £1 a bottle I popped some happily into my basket. The smell is lovely if rather strong. This product is available widely in all supermarkets and can also be found in our poundland shop. Always on offer somewhere at £1 or on a buy one get one free. I have in the past suffered from a dry scalp but seen as the condition hadn't bothered me for several months I didn't give it much thought before proceeding to use this product on my hair. Within seconds of rubbing this into my hair my scalp started to tingle, at first it was refreshing and felt rather nice. A few seconds later the sensation went from refreshing to exceedingly painful. I called my husband and asked him if my scalp was red or whether I had missed something like a cut. He said that there were no cuts but my scalp was not far off beetroot red. He started to rinse it out with cool water to see if it would help. I didn't follow on with the conditioner as my scalp was burning by this point. By the time I got out the bath I wanted to take something sharp to my head to relieve the itching, the burning was awful. The following day I couldn't brush my hair as the pain of the brush on my scalp was really unpleasant. The rest of the family have tried the shampoo, and only I was affected in this way. It's a lovely smelling product which left my hair in a nice condition but my scalp was a completely different matter. It's worth knowing before trying it that this product may not be suitable for people with sensitive scalp conditions. My scalp remained sore for about a week and washing it a few days later was not a pleasant experience.
Original Source make several items in their Tea Tree & Mint range, including shower gel, shampoo, and conditioner. A 250ml bottle will cost around the £2 mark but they are often on special offer and can be found for as little as £1. This shampoo is actually quite difficult to find where I live, as most shops only stock the shower version, not the hair products. My other half spotted it in a discount store called savers and we stocked up on a couple of bottles at £1 each. Original Source say: "We've stuffed 7,927 mint leaves into this scalp-tingling shampoo. Using only 100% pure and natural essential oils from real mint leaves, it gives your hair that fresh, clean & natural feel, while working hard to remove product build-up and improve the condition of your hair. Packed with natural stuff and the perfect kick-start to a good hair day!" The packaging is simple but attention grabbing, with its bold script and clear bottle allowing the vibrant green gel to show through. This is also good because it allows you to see exactly how much you have left. The shampoo bottle has the lid at the top, which is a bit annoying as when you get near the end of the product you have to try and balance it upside down somewhere to get the remains of the shampoo out. This is described as "daily refresh, for all hair types". I have used this product regularly over the years, but my hair is in quite bad condition now due to lots of dyeing and bleaching over the last year, and I don't think that this works well enough for me any more as I need something more moisturising. However, it's a great all rounder product and gives a really gorgeous fresh experience when you use it in the shower, especially if you also use the shower gel and conditioner. Minty overload! Directions for use: Wet hair, apply shampoo and massage into hair and scalp. Take a minute to enjoy the tingles and then rinse thoroughly. Repeat application if you want to. For best results, follow with Original Source conditioner. Upon opening the bottle you get hit with an overpowering strong smell. There are loads of essential oils in this gel, and the tea tree and mint can be clearly picked out. It is really great for kick-starting your day or giving you an energy boost when you're starting to drag. The smell is quite long lasting and stays in my hair for hours afterwards. It has the added benefit of making the bathroom smell lovely and clean, and this lingers while the steam slowly clears away. The shampoo is thick and lathers up well when rubbed onto the hair. It spreads fairly well, although I need to use a good sized dollop to cover my long hair. It feels refreshing and is particularly nice during the hot weather. The smell is fresh and clean and it works really well on greasy hair for getting rid of oil, and build up of products. It is not quite moisturising enough for my over-treated ends, and I need to use lots of conditioner afterwards to stop it from drying my hair out even more. Tea tree is well known for its healing properties and is very good for your skin. It seems to be a bit too strong for my scalp though, as I am recently starting to experience dry and flaky skin, as well as some itching after using this shampoo. It gives off a tingly feeling from the mint when it comes into contact with the skin. This can be very strong, and sometimes even uncomfortable on delicate bits of skin such as in between the fingers. Overall, this is a very strong product and it gives your hair a deep clean. It's perfect for men and women, my boyfriend loves this stuff as well. Although it says it's good for all skin types I would be a bit wary of recommending it to anyone with a dry scalp or dandruff problems due to my recent dry skin after using it. It is perfect for greasy hair, but strips away any excess oils which is not so good for those of us with damaged hair. This is a vegan product and Original Source are against animal testing - keep your beauty cruelty free! Original Source are approved by the Aromatherapy Trade Council. The plastic bottle can be recycled after use.
