This straightening hair spray was part of a gift set I picked up in the Boots January sale at a bargain price. At full price, it costs £5.99 for a 125ml spray from Boots, although they are currently running a "2 for £8" offer to bring the price of this particular range down for a limited time only.

The spray is designed to be used on either dry hair, or whilst blow drying, and acts as a protection against heat damage whilst giving hair a frizz-free smooth straight finish. If you're using it on damp hair, you simply spray liberally before using the hairdryer on it. If using it on dry hair, you spray each section before using your straighteners.

In use, the spray is much the same as most heat protection sprays, it is dispensed by aerosol rather than a trigger spray, and smells reasonably pleasant but without giving off any noticeable or lasting fragrance. It doesn't feel heavy on the hair, and once I've used this I'm not aware of it weighing my hair down or anything, I only notice it's there because of the fantastic results.

I have used this spray on both wet and dry hair, depending on the occasion. I don't straighten my hair for work, so I only use this when I'm styling my hair for special occasions, otherwise it's a waste of money when a cheaper heat protection spray does the job of protecting my hair from damage. On the occasions I want my hair to look perfectly straight, however, I use this spray after washing, before drying with the hairdryer. I've never been good at blow drying my hair, so I tend to blast it with the dryer and then use straighteners. By using this spray in conjunction with the matching shampoo and conditioner, I can achieve the best results I've known from any hair care products.

There have been occasions when I've been going out after work and have wanted to straighten my hair without having time to wash it. On these occasions, I use this spray on my dry hair and it not only puts my mind at ease that my hair is protected, but it does give a perfectly smooth finish and makes my hair look shiny and healthy.

I love this spray, although its high price tag means I'll only use it for special occasions. It has an advantage over most of these kinds of sprays in that it does two jobs at once by protecting hair and giving a smooth finish, and also it can be used on towel dried or bone dry hair. Most of these heat protection sprays can only be used on towel dried hair, so this is an advantage for those times you're straightening without washing your hair.

I've been very impressed by this range from Mark Hill, and would recommend this spray for anyone with frizzy or unruly hair.
