      I'd recommend this

I recently dyed my hair red and knew that it was going to be a difficult colour to maintain. At first I bought a salon brand shampoo and conditioner at a very expensive price. It ran out pretty quick and I couldn't really afford to keep buying it, so I went to Boots to find alternatives. John Frieda Radiant Red Shampoo and Conditioner (shampoo and conditioner are separate, but this is a review of the shampoo only) was considerably cheaper than the salon brand that I'd initially bought so it seemed worth a try. The shampoo costs approximately £6, and the conditioner is about the same price. The shampoo is like a semi-translucent bright red colour when squeezed out of the tube. It foams quite nicely when applied to wet hair and rinses out leaving hair reasonably soft in the way that most shampoos leave hair before conditioning. The colour whilst rinsing can seem quite alarming, but it doesn't stain and washes away very easily. In my experience it hasn't left any stains behind on my bathtub, or bath tiles which is a relief. After rinsing out, my hair doesn't feel as soft as it does after using the salon brand, but for the price I would say I am satisfied with the way my hair feels. After using this shampoo in combination with the John Freida Radiant Red conditioner, my hair does feel very soft. Upon drying it feels soft and does shine nicely. I have even been asked by colleagues whether I have added a tint to my hair when I use this the night before work. This is despite this shampoo and conditioner not having a staining effect. I think it's because it makes my hair look very reflective and shiny, hence giving the appearance I have stained it. The shampoo comes in a squeezy upside down bottle which makes dispensing nice and easy. I probably would buy this again. It doesn't feel like a salon brand, but it does smell nice and for the money it is a great shampoo. Thanks for reading.

it is the product that can protect your hair color

Okay, to begin with, I know that I just made a very cheesy title. Now move on to why I bought this product, shall we? Last year I decided that this year I should make something new in me, and the easier way is to just simply change my hair colour. I had been playing with the thought of having my hair dyed in red, for a long time before I decided to finally gave it a try. Christmas last year, I went red. However, I know that red dye is easily wear off. Within two weeks my beautiful red hair became a little bit brownish. I wasn't trying to say that brownish hair is bad, but it's just not the colour that I want. So few weeks later I bought another red dye to retouch my hair. My friend suggested me to buy a hair colour shampoo to protect the colour, so it last longer. I have heard about John Frieda before but had never used it because I thought the price was too expensive for me. However, since I needed something to protect the colour of my new dyed hair, I bought this one. Well, to be honest after a two months and still having half the tube, I started to think that it's actually nowhere near expensive. The price is actually reasonable for the size and the quality. Yes, it's been a month already and my hair is still as red. Even last week it looks really great under the sun, because the bright red was shining radiantly. I am happy that my red hair stays longer, and I think this Radiant Red Shampoo helped me to get the shine as well. Would I recommend this product to my friends? Why not?

      Disadvantages

A great shampoo which protects the colour

Before returning to work in October of this year I was getting a bit fed up being in a 'mummy routine'! Seems a bit selfish but over my year of maternity leave I had fallen into a bit of a rut considering most of the time was spent running round like a mad woman the time actually spent specifically on myself was lacking and I felt that I needed a change before returning to work and feeling like me again rather than just a mum, which I love but when I go back to work I want to feel like me! My hairdresser is a friend of mine and when I suggested having bit of a change I wasn't expecting such a drastic shock. Before I had long, very dark brown hair and when I came out I had a poker straight bob in a lovely deep red hue - very drastic and very different but with all red hair that is dyed the colour can fade and I didn't want faded red hair as it just looks awful so I went into my local Boots and purchased a shampoo and conditioner designed for red hair types! John Frieda Radiant Red Shampoo was chosen purely because I had heard of the brand before having used the brunette versions and it was the only shampoo on the shelves for red hair so my choice was easy! John Frieda has rapidly expanded over the years and is probably best known for its range of hair products specifically for blonde hair but the range of products has increased a lot but as with all 'designer' hair products they are slightly more than say a Pantene product but it is worth paying if they work and if it doesn't work for your hair then you haven't spent ridiculous amounts on a shampoo so you won't feel so disheartened! The John Frieda Radiant Red shampoo comes in quite a tall tube/bottle which is completely see through so you can see the deep red liquid which certainly makes the packaging quite appealing and it stands out on the shelf. The front of the bottle has a lot of text about the product but it is all very minimal in terms of size apart from the John Frieda text/logo. On the back of the bottle there is a bit more blurb about the product as well as an extensive ingredients list and contact details for the company itself. The tube has a flip top lid and is bottom heavy. The shampoo itself is a wonderful deep red and it is completely clear. Its consistency isn't as runny as some shampoos I have used and is actually quite jelly like although it is easily squeezed through the bottle it does have a thickness about it which to me is perfectly fine. It has a lovely aroma to it which is soft and quite floral which is really nice as it isn't too overwhelming but is very noticeable but as it's quite soft and also quite refreshing it is perfectly pleasant. The shampoo lathers up incredibly easy once applied on wet hair and you end up with a rich, soft pink coloured lather which releases even more of the lovely aroma. Because of its consistency it means that when you pour it into your hand it doesn't run everywhere or go through your fingers so it can be applied with ease without splattering your shower walls with red shampoo! It doesn't take a lot of this shampoo to cover your hair and obviously depending on length and thickness but for my hair I need about a fifty pence piece size and it manages to cover my hair easily therefore making the bottle last for quite a long time (of course this depends on how many times you wash your hair per week). Rinsing the shampoo was easy, despite my initial thoughts about the lather being so thick I did think it would take a while for all the suds to completely wash out as the lather is quite thick but I was pleasantly surprised that I didn't have to spend ages trying to ensure that the shampoo was rinsed out completely. I noticed that even after just using the shampoo my hair despite being wet was lovely and silky even without using the conditioner. Obviously after using the shampoo I used the conditioner (review to come later on the conditioner!) but combing through my wet hair was tangle free and blow drying and styling my hair was easy too. My hair was completely manageable when dry making the styling process a lot easier and the natural wave in my hair did not become unruly whatsoever but the best thing was the shine on my hair was great. It really gave off a healthy red shine and best of all, my colour looked vibrant. I have my hair coloured between every 6-8 weeks in order to keep the redness as red as apart from fading which can come with having red hair I also have it cut on a regular basis apart from keeping my hair style but its also important to keep the hair healthy. On my last visit a few weeks ago my hairdresser mentioned that my hair had kept its colour really well and it had hardly faded at all which was obviously great to hear. Personally I couldn't tell that my hair had faded as it still had a lovely, vibrant red hue. Overall, I really like this shampoo you don't need to use a lot to get right to the roots and it is easy to rinse out. It manages to leave my hair soft, shiny and easily manageable which is everything I want in a shampoo. I really can't complain about it as it has kept my hair in great condition and it has kept my hair colour as good as it can be. Would I recommend? Yes, definitely to anyone with red hair, it is definitely worth trying. 5 stars from me. ~ Useful Info ~ Brand: John Frieda Volume: 250ml bottle Variety: Radiant Red Price: From around £3.20 upwards (£3.33 in Morrisons as at Dec 2011) Availability: Most supermarkets and stores such as Boots and Superdrug

        Advantages

        Disadvantages

I would recommend this to anyone with dyed red hair - it is a life saver!

After a disastrous attempt at dying my hair blonder, I ended up a lovely highlighted shade of orange which is never a good look. I had been thinking about going red for a while but I never found the courage to actually go ahead. When I dyed my hair using Garnier Nutrisse (see my review on the product before you buy), I discovered that red hair really does fade as quickly as everyone says. I googled how to stop it fading so quick and along with many 'homemade recipes', a great deal of people had recommended the John Frieda Radiant Red range. John Freida has a range of hair products to suit red heads, brunettes and blondes - all aiming to maximise your new hair colour adding shine, vibrancy and softness! I was a bit skeptical as to whether it would work but tried it anyway. I checked in Boots and Superdrug to see where it was cheaper and in Superdrug it costs £5.09, Boots costing £5.49 which is the same as most supermarkets price this product. It is very rarely on sale which is annoying but from what I've noticed so far it will last well. Now when you dye your hair red, it is impossible to keep the colour vibrant for very long but I am doing everything in my power to make sure that it stays for as long as possible. This shampoo is for coloured or natural red heads, helping to improve the shine, vibrancy and keep hair in nice condition. I wouldn't say it is very good for helping against damage but it does help slightly. It comes in a squeezy red bottle which is slightly transparent so you can see the product inside. All of the ingredients and claims of the product are on the back and the name is on the front - all the usual things you would expect. The shampoo itself is a thick liquid which means it doesn't run all over the place but it isn't too thick. It is also vibrant red which is nice as you feel like it will do more - but I'm sure they just did this so consumers think it is doing more than it actually is. When it comes to products like this, they normally have really strong scents but I find this one to not be too overpowering. It is quite feminine and sweet but my partner uses it without finding it to be too girly for him (and he has dark hair NOT red!). I usually wash my hair every other day, but since dying it red I've noticed it gets greasy quicker. I am trying to wash it every third day and it seems to be lasting alright except for on my crown - nothing a bit of dry shampoo can't fix! I know it sounds dirty to wash it so little but I'm very scared that it will fade quickly and I don't want to dye it too much! Does it make my hair colour stay vibrant? I'd say it does actually. I have been asked if I have re-dyed my hair because friends on my course have been expecting it to fade quickly like I have myself. My hair feels soft and it looks noticeably shiny and not in a greasy way. I'm sure I have a long way to go before it stops fading within a week due to the blonde underneath but I intend on using this shampoo for a very long time - or at least until something better comes along!

        Advantages

        Disadvantages

        Great for dyed red hair!

Anyone who has ever dyed their hair red knows its a pain to keep. It fades very easily and is one of the quickest fading colours on hair. So we need some help! Now, no shampoo/conditioner will completely stop fading, its just not possible. This shampoo isn't just for dyed hair either, natural red heads can use it too! The shampoo comes in a clear squeezy bottle, with the lid at the bottom. One thing that annoys me about the shampoo is how thick it is, it takes a while to come out of the bottle! Its a dark red colour, which one would hope it to be. It smells amazing too, and the smell lasts all day. It makes your hair look very shiney and healthy, a lot of people ask me how I get my hair to look in such good condition after the years of dying it! It also does keep the red up, not 100%, as I said, no shampoo will do this. However, I have had people at work asking me if I had re-dyed it, so it must still look quite vibrant! My hair will look clean for around 3 days, even though I try to wash it every other day, but it seems with this shampoo, I don't need to if I'm in a rush on that 3rd day. A bit pricey for shampoo at around £5.50 a bottle, but sometimes Boots do a 3 for 2 or 2 for £7 on John Frieda shampoos/conditioners.

        Advantages

        Disadvantages

Sort of offers what it says about colour vibrancy but not good as a basic shampoo

After dying my hair red for the umpteenth time with a somewhat unreliable colourant, my hair quickly began to fade back to it's natural dull-brown colour. I looked around for a shampoo which promised to enhance the shade in the hope that it would then save me from having to redye my hair. I bought a bottle of John Frieda's Radiant Red as I'd seen it on TV, and the advert had promised everything I wanted from the product. After a couple of washes I found that the shampoo had indeed made the red parts of my hair more shiny and vibrant in colour (the difference was especially striking in the sunlight) but sadly the product had little or no effect on how fast the colour on the rest of the hair was fading, resulting in bright red roots and tips and a mediocre colour elsewhere. I also found that, as a shampoo, this product let me down. Straight after use my hair looked fine but after a few hours my hair began to look heavy and greasy again. To be honest, it was as if I hadn't washed my hair at all. It became clear to me that if I were to continue using this product I'd have to wash my hair AT LEAST every day. On top of this, I discovered that it was actually rather difficult to squeeze the product from the tube. The shampoo is thick and viscous and you'll need a fiarly strong grip to get more than a small trickle out of the rather tiny hole. Although the attractive bottle, colour and smell appear to merit the somewhat lofty price tage (around £6 per bottle which, with daily washing really won't last much longer than a month), I honestly think that there are products which offer the same, if not better colour care, clean your hair more thoroughly and cost a fair bit less.

        Disadvantages

        Great product for redheads

My hair is dyed red, so you may well find this product works differently for you if you're a natural redhead. Packaging: This comes in a clear squeezable tube with a clear plastic flip cap. It's designed to stand up on the lid so the product falls to the opening for easy dispensing. The one problem I've found with the packaging is that the lid tends to get water stuck in it. It doesn't get into the tube with the product so you don't need to worry about it getting diluted, but you do get cold water dripping over your hands (and sometimes feet) when you open it. Product: This is a bright red colour and has a subtle sweet scent. It lathers well and you only need a small amount, about the size of a 10p piece, even if you have long hair (mine is a few inches below my shoulders). It left my hair very soft, shiny and healthy looking and while I'm not sure it made the red any more vibrant, it did slow down the fading. Price: Usually this is £6.99 which while expensive for shampoo, it does mean you need to dye your hair less frequently so overall I think you'll save money. I got this on a Boots 3 for £10 offer which made it pretty good value so I suggest looking out for that, or using one of the haircare vouchers they frequently give out.

        Disadvantages

        Excellent product.

There are not a lot of products on the market for those who are blessed with Red locks or like me prefer to be Red over my own natural colour. I find that my colour goes quite quickly as my hair is a natural ash blonde after a month it needs to be coloured again. This product claims to "colour protect" an "anti fade system for a deeper, richer shades of red hair". So I couldn't wait to try it The packaging is very appropiate as it marketed towards Red Heads it comes in a tube coloured red. As I used the product I had expected the colour of the shampoo to be white or clear but it is red which I was quite impressed with. The shampoo lathers up nicely and you only need a 5p size blobb to do the trick. It has a pleasant smell. I couldn't see a difference straight away, but as they say Rome wasn't built in a day. After a week my colour looked the same (not faded) and my hair feel soft and shiny. I find it is best to use this product after you have had your hair coloured. Overall a very good product, there aren't a lot of products for us Red Heads but this is a very good one.
