After reading positive reviews about this Dove Damage Solutions Intensive Repair conditioner, I made a mental note to buy it and try it for myself at some point.
On a recent shopping trip I discovered Dove hair products were part of a half-price promotion at my local Morrisons supermarket and decided this would be a good opportunity to try some and popped a regular sized 180ml tube of this conditioner into my shopping basket at a bargain price of just £1.35.
Although I am a massive fab of Dove bath and body products and won't use any soap other than a Dove bar, I had formed mixed feelings about Dove hair products thus far. Indeed when they first appeared on the market I eagerly snapped up a shampoo and conditioner expecting to be wowed, only to be left disappointed when they didn't give me the results I expected when using them.
After this I avoided Dove shampoo and conditioner for quite some time, but was persuaded to try again last year after noticing new hair products were available and this time I was happier with my experiences. Whilst still not my favourite shampoo ansd conditioner, I was happy enough with the results and have since bought them from time to time when spotting them on offer.
This Dove Damage Solutions Intensive Repair conditioner I think both looks and sounds like one of the more luxurious intensive conditioning treatments I use on my hair now and then. It also comes in a tube not a bottle and I felt as if I was buying something a little more special than the normal bottle of conditioner.
I have long hair and like it to look smooth and shiny, but I suffer with oily roots and ends which can become dry due to the length and of course split ends can become a problem when you have long hair also, so therefore I regularly have the ends trimmed and always use a decent conditioner every time I wash my hair, paying particular attention to the lengths and ends to help combat dryness. I also use intensive conditioning treatments regulalry too and so the fact that this is an 'intensive repair' conditioner without the hefty price tag, intrigued me. Could this be as good as some intensive treatments and hair masques I have used?
Well the answer has to be a resounding yes. After the first use I was suitably impressed but after a further couple of uses, I realised this conditioner was leaving my hair in a lovely smooth and shiny condition.
It has a lovely creamy texture and is so easily applied to wet hair after rinsing out the shampoo beforehand. It also has a gorgeous fragrance which I find difficult to describe but is really lovely.
As I apply this conditioner to my hair, it blends quickly and easily without the need to use a lot of product and my fingers glide easily through the lengths whilst doing so.
It also rinses out very easily and leaves behind no residue at all. It is easy to comb through my tangle-free wet hair and once dry, my hair feels soft and looks smooth and shiny.
Whilst this conditioner won't actually 'repair' your hair ( that maybe is a little misleading as split ends can't really be repaired, they need to be cut off) it does help rebind and restore damaged hair protein and so you can achieve the up to x5 smoother hair that Dove advertise when using this, as it seals your hair cuticles which helps mask any split ends as well as helping to prevent further hair damage.
I did like my hair after using this conditioner just once, but really noticed a difference after three or four consecutive uses, my hair felt as if I had used an intensive conditioning treatment.
I have been experimenting with a few different intensive and more expensive conditioners lately and found one or two really good ones which I shall be buying regularly from now on. I am happy to report that this Dove Damage Solutions Intensive Repair conditioner is one of them!
A couple of weeks ago I felt that my hair was starting to need a good treatment, I was shopping in my local Tesco store so decided to have a look what treatments I could get and came across this one at half price.
I decided to have a try of this product as it was half price and also that I was currently using one of the Dove shampoo and conditioners. The product costs me £1.74 for a 180ml tube which I find to be fantastic value since it is supposed to be an intensive treatment.
The product comes in a soft plastic tube with a flip top lid which it stands on, the tube is a pearly white in colour and then has detailing on it such as the name of the product and the company in blue and silver. You are told on the tube that the treatment is an express treatment and only takes 1 minute, that it has fibre actives whatever they may be and it is a deep nourishing treatment which prevents split ends and breakages.
To use the treatment you simply wash your hair in your normal shampoo and then apply this from the middle to the ends and wait 1 minute for it to work its magic. I was rather surprised to find that this can be used on your hair every day so wasn't actually what I was initially looking for when I had entered the supermarket as I wanted a deep hair treatment that you would only use about once a week.
The treatment has a really fresh smell to it but I think there is also a hint of coconut in it too, I love the smell and you can smell it on your hair for ages afterwards. The product is pretty thick and creamy but it is easy to work through your hair and you can feel pretty much straight away that it is untangling your hair. After a minute the treatment can be washed off which I find very easy and it doesn't leave any residue at all.
After using this treatment I have found that my hair is left feeling very soft and it is really easy to manage, my hair was really shiny and looked in great condition when I had used iot and reminded me of how my hair feels when it has just been dyed. Even though you can use this everyday I am only using it about once a week simply because at full price it is £3.50 which I wouldn't spend on everyday use. The big bonus I found from this product is after 2 days when my hair would be looking lank and needing washing it still had loads of life to it and didn't need a wash, well recommended.
I blow dry, straighten or curl my hair almost everyday and because of this it can get quite dry and damaged. I have tried many different types of moisturising shampoos and conditioners, and this is the latest.
This conditioner is very thick and rich, the first time I used it I applied it all over my hair. It left it lovely and soft after drying, and very shiny. However it seemed to get weighed down and greasy very quickly, this can only be due to how rich and moisturising the conditioner is. The next time I used it I only applied to to the lengths and ends of my hair and this seemed to work much better. It left my hair lovely and soft but didnt weigh it down. I only use this once or twice a week, as I think everyday would be a bit too much for my hair. The conditioner claims to prevent split ends up to 5 times - I dont know how they get these statistics, and I cant really comment on its effectiveness in this area as I already have split ends (I know it cant make them magically disappear).
You can buy dove hair products from boots, superdrug or any good supermarket and it usually retails for around £2.50, at the moment though it is on offer in boots for the low price of £1.65, as is the shampoo!
Overall this is a great conditioner for dry or damaged hair and really does put moisture back into it!
I love doing my hair up nice and would spend quite a lot of time styling it. Unfortunately straighteners and curling tongs have a bad effect on your hair and the heat from them leaves it damaged. I decided to give it a little treatment and after being recommended this treat conditioning treatment by a friend, I thought I would give it a try.
To apply Dove Intense Repair Conditioner you simply wash your hair first and then you apply a small dollop of this conditioner to the ends of your hair, I don't like to put any near the roots of my hair because I find that it weighs them down and makes them look greasy. Then you leave this conditioner in for a few minutes and let the treatment work its way into your hair and finally rinse it out and dry and style as usual.
I really liked this conditioner and when I used it for the first time, it left my hair really soft and healthy looking, it had a really nice shine to it and I even had compliments passed about how well my hair was looking from friends. I found that my hair was really easy to manage when I used this conditioner and also that my hair looked like it had a lot less split ends.
I don't use this conditioner every day as I think it would leave my hair greasy and be a waste, however I do use it about once a week just to keep my hair in good shape.
Dove Intense Repair Conditioner smells lovely and fresh, it has a really clean scent to it that lingers for a while after I have dried my hair.
You can buy a 200ml bottle of Dove Intense Repair Conditioner for around £2.50 in Boots, I think this is quite a good price for this conditioner as it achieves really great results and as you don't need to use too much of it at a time, a 200ml bottle lasts a surprisingly long time (depending on hair length). I think that this conditioner is as good as any of the more expensive brands of conditioners that I have used for a fraction of the price.
Overall I think that this is a fantastic conditioner, it leaves my hair lovely and healthy and also smells lovely and clean. I really like this conditioner and would give it 5 out of 5 stars.

-- Reasons for buying --
I recently purchased the Dove Intensive Repair Conditioner whilst in Superdrug as I had recently dyed my hair and the ends were a little split and very dry. I had read a lot of positive reviews and decided to give it a go. I also purchased with it the Dove Intensive Repair shampoo and conditioner to achieve better results.
-- The claim --
The claim is that it gives instant deep nourishment and prevents split ends and breakage.
-- Packaging --
The conditioner comes in a white squeezable tube with the Dove logo presented on the front with some information about the product including its name, what the conditioner does and the amount of product provided. A simple pull and push lid comes attached to make it easy to open and reseal.
-- Applying the conditioner --
Applying the conditioner very easy and does present on the back directions of use. I simply wet my hair, massage some of the Intensive repair shampoo into my hair and then continue to rinse. After I towel dry my hair and apply a fair amount of the product to my ends and spread the up towards my root area. It says to leave the conditioner of for 3 minutes, but as I like to use this on my usual pamper day I tend to wrap my hair in a cap and leave it on for about 15 minutes, along with a face mask and a cup of tea. How long you leave it on for is up to you, after 15 minutes I simply just rinse my hair and towel dry. Whilst washing it out you can definitely tell your hair is very soft and well nourished.
-- Pros --
The conditioner smells absolutely amazing! When my hair is dry you can definitely feel the difference, it makes my hair smooth and sooo soft. I have noticed a definite improvement to the ends of my hair after only using the product twice. I think it works great along with the shampoo and conditioner so you are achieving the best results. I have also just purchased the Dove heat protector as well, so at the moment I'm a Dove addict! I would definitely repurchase this after as I've not noticed such quick results with any other brand and hopefully it will continue to make my hair look gorgeous.
-- Cons --
The only con I have would have to be that you only receive 180ml which is almost the same as the shampoo and conditioner but is still slightly more expensive than the both of them. I would say that with the results it is worth the money, but as I have fairly long hair I need to use a lot more to cover my entire hair, whereas with my usual conditioner I only use it on the ends.
-- Price and availability --
It is widely available in most drugstores and supermarkets. I purchased this in Superdrug for £3.35 and you receive 180ml. The price isn't bad for the amount you receive and the product is definitely of high quality but as I need to use rather a lot to cover my fairly long hair, I'm sure it wouldn't last me too long.
-- Conclusion --
I absolutely adore the product my hair feels so silky smooth and my ends completely nourished, would be better if you received more of the product but not a bad price for the quality. I would definitely recommend to use this with the Intensive Repair shampoo and conditioner to achieve the best results!
I bought this Dove Intensive Repair Conditioner as it was on offer in a local chemist and I was really impressed. Dove does it again!
The Packaging is really nice. Its a nice tube with shiny label. The flip lid is good except for when your hands are wet it's a little tricky. I had to use my teeth!
You get a lot of product in the bottle. It seems to last which is good.
I've used it a few times. The first couple of times I used it and left it on for a few minutes and rinsed it off. My hair was left really shiny and manageable.
I also left it on overnight and rinsed it out in the morning and wow! what a result. Got all my knots out and it felt so soft!
The smell is beautiful. Not too strong. The consistency is just right and like I say, you don't need a lot to cover your hair.
I will definitely be buying this again.
Today I will review the Dove intensive repair conditioner.
This conditioner is packaged in a white/cream bottle and has a flip top lid with the dove logo. On the label it tells me that it contains micro moisture serum and firbre actives. The packaging is similar to that of other dove products and is sleek and classic.
The conditioner is cream in colour. I use it by rinsing my hair with shampoo then combing it with a wide tooth comb and smoothing this conditioner through my hair. It rinses out easily and makes my hair feel really smooth, sleek and soft. When I dry my hair my hair is really intensely repaired and its so nice ! I use a lot of heat on my hair so I use this conditioner once every other week to really give my hair a good treatment, I use it alongside a hair mask in the between week.
I really like this conditioner and it may become a staple in my hair routine if it continues to give me good results
If you've been following my recent reviews you will be aware of my disappointment with a couple of my latest purchases of hair products, which were of an inferior quality. As my hair is very long, thick and naturally curly it can often be difficult to manage, so it is essential that I use high quality products. My hair is prone to dryness and split ends, which is no doubt due to the fact that I regularly use colouring products, a hair dryer and straighteners, so it is essential that I use a more intensive conditioner on a weekly basis. For the last few years I have used Soap and Glory's Hair Supply, but wanted to try something new, so I was delighted to receive a free gift last month, which accompanied a woman's magazine. The gift was a 50ml tube of Dove's Damage Therapy Intensive Repair and this review discusses my experience with using the product, which has recently been launched.
APPEARANCE OF THE PRODUCT
The 50ml tube I own is identical in appearance to that of the larger 180ml product, which is contained within a sturdy plastic tube that sits on a flip top lid. The packaging is very appealing to the eye with its' main colour of white and a combination of silver, gold and blue. I've always considered the Dove brand to be gentle yet effective, so I was of the opinion that I was using a high quality product. As this is a new product I took a little time to read the small amount of information contained on the tube where I learned that the conditioner contains micro moisture serum to strengthen and protect the hair from split ends.
USING DOVE INTENSIVE REPAIR
I washed and rinsed my hair with my normal shampoo and easily flipped open the lid with one hand and squeezed an inch length of the pearly white product into the other. I would advise at this point that the lid tightly closes, as there is a strong plastic hinged area so there is no fear of it detaching itself after a few uses. The consistency of the product can be described as a cream and the aroma is simply divine and whilst I cannot pinpoint any particular fragrance, I would advise that it is clean and fresh and suited to both sexes. The directions for use are to apply through wet hair, but as my hair is very long it was necessary for me to dispense a further inch length to ensure that each section of hair was effectively coated. My hair becomes considerably knotted during the hair washing process and it is normally necessary for me to use a wide tooth comb to separate the sections and to remove any knots. However, I was totally amazed that within seconds of applying this product I was able to easily slide my fingers through my hair without the aid of a comb.
My hair felt soft and smooth and even at this point I believed that this was a high quality nourishing product. As directed I left the product on my hair for one minute and rinsed away, which was an easy process and then wrapped a towel around my hair for a few minutes to absorb the majority of the water, as vigorously drying with a towel can cause significant damage. I then gently dried my hair with a towel and styled as normal and was able to witness a beautiful glossy shine with my hair feeling soft, smooth and thoroughly nourished. I suffer with a few split ends, which is due to me missing my last hair dressing appointment and I cannot admit to these being any different in appearance. Consequently, I would argue with the fact that Dove has named this product "intensive repair" as this statement is rather misleading, particularly as the product protects the hair as opposed to repairing and the only way to remedy split ends is to have them cut away by a hair stylist. However, with regular use of the product I have not suffered any further split ends, as the ends of my hair feel totally soft and smooth.
As previously advised, I am a great fan of Soap and Glory's Hair Supply and have read many reviews where the user has reported the product leaving a sticky residue thus causing a heavy feeling to the hair. Whilst this is something I have never experienced with Soap and Glory I would advise that Dove Intensive Repair leaves no residue and always leaves my hair feeling as if I've used an extremely expensive salon product. Whilst the conditioning treatment is suitable for daily use I tend to use it twice a week and am able to achieve first class results. In fact, this product has now replaced Soap and Glory, as it has far exceeded my expectations and is now a firm favourite. Consequently, it receives 5 stars from me together with a huge recommendation.
INGREDIENTS AND OTHER INFORMATION
There is an extremely lengthy list of ingredients contained on the reverse of the tube and for obvious reasons I do not intend copying them into this review. I can confirm that I suffered no adverse reactions when using, as I found this product considerably gentle whilst delivery high quality results. The tube should be used within 12 months of opening and can be recycled once empty. It would be impossible for me to advise how long a tube will last, as obviously that is dependent upon the hair length of the user and the frequency of use.
PRICE AND AVAILABILITY
Dove Intensive Repair normally retails at around £3.26 for a 180 ml tube, but at the time of writing (27 August 2011) you can purchase it from Boots at half price. Consequently, I have stocked up and probably have enough to last me for the next twelve months!
I hope you found my review useful and would thank you for reading.
