“ Brand: Clairol / Texture: Fluid / Type: Hair Mask „
One of the things that I enjoy in life is reading various beauty blogs and magazines to find out the latest must have products from my favourite celebrities. To some this may seem a sad pastime (particularly to my husband) but it really is something that I enjoy doing. As a result when I was reading a recent article in Glamour magazine I came across an article with Cheryl Cole who claimed that the secret to her fabulous mane (together with the carefully placed hair extensions) was a weekly hair mask treatment to deep condition her brunette locks. Although I don't have a huge amount of spare cash to spend, it had been years since I last deep conditioned my hair and therefore I vowed to pick up a hair treatment mask the next time I went out shopping.
Browsing my local Sainsbury's store as I completed the weekly shop, my eyes fell on a range of different treatments from Herbal Essences. I have in the past used the shampoo and conditioners from the Herbal Essence range and found them to be good quality with an especially lovely smell. Therefore when I saw this 'Beautiful Ends' hair mask I popped it into my basket. After all, it was a very reasonable £1 for a tub at the time of purchase which seemed a bargain compared to the rest of the hair conditioning brands on the shelf.
~~The Product and Packaging~~
Although the 'new' Herbal Essence packaging has been around for a couple of years now, I still find the packaging quite bright and not a touch on their older style bottles which I used to love. This tub of hair mask is no exception being a rather bright red plastic tub which is circular in shape and rather similar in size to that of a tub of hair gel. In our house this makes this tub ideal to store away as I simply stack it on top of my husbands hair products between uses, making it ideal in our bathroom with limited shelf space. On the front of the tub we are told that this mask is part of the Beautiful Ends range of products and that it is designed as a protector against split ends and is for use on dry and damaged hair. This mask contains raspberry and silk proteins and I attributed the bright red tub to that of the raspberry ingredient.
The tub opens easily via a screw open lid on the top and this makes this product very suitable for use in the bath when I have wet hands as I do not find the lid at all stiff to open. Inside, the hair mask is a pale shade of pink and this has a slightly shimmery glow to it and a nourishing feel. The consistency of this hair mask is quite thick and rather similar to that of an intensive conditioner and it is this thickness that ensures that the product stays in my hair without running out whilst it completes a couple of minutes of treatment. It is the smell of this hair mask that I love as it has a highly fruity flavour with the smell of raspberry being very prominent and an underlying clean scent which I can only attribute to the silk extracts.
~~Application and Use~~
Reading the back of the tub, Herbal Essence advise that a blob of this hair mask is applied to the hair and then left on for between 3-5 minutes before rinsing out. Although my hair is quite fine in texture, I do have quite a number of split and dry ends which I attribute to my laziness at visiting the hairdresser and therefore I was keen to see whether this mask could help these problems. I began by washing my hair with my usual shampoo and then, ensuring that I had squeezed the excess water from the ends I applied a handful of this mask to my hair from roots to ends and combed through. I decided upon the first treatment to leave this conditioner on for the maximum five minutes and found this an enjoyable way to sit in the bath and read my book as I waited.
After the five minute period was up I made sure that I thoroughly rinsed my hair from root to tip and was pleased that my hair felt soft and smooth with a lovely fruity smell. I like to blow dry my hair to ensure that I get maximum volume and therefore after towel drying my hair I did blow dry it from root to tip and was pleased with the soft and shiny feel of my hair after using this treatment. I was also very pleased with the bounce that this mask gave to my hair as I had been expecting it to weigh my hair down and make it look limp but instead it looked full of volume and shine.
~~The All Important Results~~
I have now been using this mask once a week for the past month and have found it to be excellent at maintaining the condition of my hair particularly as my hair was beginning to look a little lack lustre. I do not find that this hair treatment solves my split end problems, indeed I have since been advised by my hairdresser that only a good cut can remove them, however it certainly helps to condition my hair and keep it looking shiny and supple. Perhaps my only criticism of this hair mask is the smell which, although lovely when the mask sits in the tub, has a tendency to fade from my hair very quickly after use and is not detectable the morning after use which is a shame in my opinion.
~~Price and Availability~~
As mentioned early on in this review, I purchased a tub of this product from Sainsbury's and paid just £1 for it which I considered excellent value at the time. That being said, it is currently on deal at Superdrug for a reasonable £1.96 which I consider great value considering the amount of time that I anticipate my tub to last.
As my now shiny hair will illustrate, this is a great product which really helps to keep hair looking healthier and as a result I would recommend it. As a result of my review this product scores a good four stars from me and I will continue to use mine on a weekly basis until it runs out.
I hope this review has been of some help and thanks for reading! x
Why i purchased this mask:
Because my hair is frazzled! My ends get very dry, parched and in need of an intensive moisturising. A combination of dying, blow drying and straightening it nearly every day absolutely kills my hair - particularly my ends. I am also trying to grow my hair to my waist so trims are most definitely out. Anything that improves the condition of my hair and prevents the dreaded split ends and breakage is very desireable to me.
What the mask contains and claims to do for hair:
The mask contains red raspberry and silk extracts. Red raspberry is rich in vitamins and minerals, which i am guessing would aid the hair in becoming stronger and less susceptable to breakage. Silk extracts containing protein also offer protection to the hair, making it more dureable, healthy looking and shiny. It also makes the hair noteably softer and silky to the touch. (obviously!)
The mask comes in a 200ml tub. The tub is a bright red colour as is the beautiful ends shampoo and conditioner. Herbal essences colour code their products to the different benefits (Green for Dazzling shine, Blue for Hello Hydration, Orange for Uplifting Volume etc..) The whole range definitely stands out on the supermarket shelf. It has a screw top lid which is easy to open, even when you have wet and slippery fingers. On the front it says the benefit of the product (split end protection) and what it contains ( red raspberry and silk extracts). It also states on the front that it is a rinse-out product, so there is no confusion as to whether it is a leave in conditioner or a rinse-out one. On the back
On the back is the claim of what it does to the hair - protection against damage leaving it strong and velvety.
I purchased this mask from Asda for £2.50 which i think is a reasonable price. It is also available to buy from most supermarkets,Boots and Superdrug.
How to use:
This is a once a week intensive treatment, personally i would not use it any more than this as it could tend to weigh the hair down. The tub says to apply from the roots to the ends, but i leave my roots and start from my ears downwards. I start by shampooing my hair as normal, washing it and wringing my hair out to get rid of excess water. Then i apply the mask by taking a scoopful of the product and smoothing it into my hair making sure it (particularly my ravaged ends) is absolutely smothered in the mask. The tub also says to leave it on for 5 minutes then rinse off. I have done this but don't get such great results. I like to leave it on for atleast half an hour, sometimes more to really feel like it is benefiting my hair. After leaving the product to work rinse it out thoroughly.
The smell of the product:
You can really smell the raspberry in this mask. Personally i love it, i find it to be a very uplifting scent. The smell lingers on the hair for a reasonably long time as well, i love catching an unexpected whiff of the smell when my hair sways.
The consistency of the product:
The mask is thick which is to be expected of an intensive mask, it has a velvety smooth texture when applied to the hair. I like that it adheres to the hair and does not drip at all, meaning my bath tub does not become dangerously slippery.
Ease of use:
The mask is easy to apply to my hair, it spreads through the hair evenly and my hair feels saturated. It washes out with ease, sometimes with other masks and conditioners i feel like they leave a greasy film on my hair that i repeatedly try to rinse out but here my hair feels squeaky clean, free from product and lovely and soft.
After washing out:
My hair instantly feels softer and more manageable, making it easier to comb through before i commence drying. When i blowdry my hair it feels much softer and looks healthier, i know this product cannot repair split ends but it definitely smooths mine out so they look much less noticeable. The ends of my hair feel less brittle and frizzy, meaning i do not have to straighten the hell out of it to get a smooth finish. My hair has a noteable shine to it and just looks much healthier and less damaged.
After frequent use:
I have used this mask for about 3 months now, using it once a week. I am just reaching the bottom of the tub now which is impressive. I have managed to keep those dreaded scissors at bay as i really do think this has protected the ends of my hair from becoming really damaged. After a while i find my hair gets used to particular products but i do not feel like it does with this mask, i am still seeing and feeling the benefits each time i use it.
Would i recommend?
Definitely. It does what it says on the tin (or tub!) and protects my dry and damaged hair. It is already on my repurchasing list.I haven't used this mask in conjunction with the beautiful ends shampoo and conditioner, but i expect the results would be even better. When i run out of the shampoo and conditioner i am currently using i will definitely purchase these, as i do find using the same brand of products yields a much more effective result. Even without them though this product shines, i really feel like it is keeping my hair long and strong, yet it still allows me to do the horrible things i do to my hair like the dying and constant straightening, which if i could not do would leave me a very unhappy bunny. ( i cannot live without straighteners)
I give this mask 5 Dooyoo stars, I simply love it.
Thanks for reading :)
Like most girls I am obsessed with my hair and getting it into the best possible condition. After years of bleaching and dying, I finally made the decision to shave off all my hair and regrow it - I am now currently growing my hair to donate to a cancer charity.
In the last five years, I've tried most hair masks and hair conditioners on the market but have never found one that really "wowed" me. I recently brought this product because I had great success with the "beautiful ends" shampoo and conditioner. I straighten my hair almost every day because I have a short, one length bob and it's the only thing I can really do with my hair 'style wise.' Despite using heat defence sprays, I still find that the ends of my hair can get a little dry between trims. I needed a product that would really focus on the ends of my hair to stop them from drying out and looking awful.
The thing with hair masks, is that I usually keep them on my hair all day (about 8+ hours) when I have no plans for the day. This way I can get the very most out of the hair mask and my hair will always feel amazing.
The product itself comes in a very smart rounded tub, after using the product I usually wash out the container and use them as storage containers - recycling friendly! The tub is bright red and eye catching, easy to store etc etc etc
The product itself is a rose pink in colour, the texture is quite thick and the one factor that is apparent in all Herbal Essences products - the smell. The scent is very floral and feminine and as I applied the product to my hair I felt it moisturising my own hands! It was easy to scoop out of the tub and I applied it all over my hair paying special attention to the ends of my hair.
After eight or so hours, I took the product out of my hair and there was such a noticeable difference between the condition of my hair before and after I used the product. My ends felt significantly less damaged and my hair was so soft that I couldn't stop touching it. Overall it's one of the best hair products I have ever used and I'd highly recommend it to somebody with dry or damaged hair. My profile picture on my DooYoo account is living proof!
At the beginning of December I ran out of the wonderful hair mask I had been using and needed to quickly buy another before my hair became uncontrollably frizzy and unmanagable. The use of a decent hair mask is extremely important to me and an essential item in my opinion. However, I couldn't really face the christmas crowds in town nor did I really have the money to spend on anything too expensive. I just needed something that would put me on for a few weeks, as I was sure I would be receiving my favorite hair care products as a Christmas gift anyways (I mean I'd dropped enough hints!). When on a budget Superdrug is one of my favorite places to shop and this is where I picked up a very large tub of Clairol Herbal Essences Beautiful Ends Intensive Mask. It was on offer at £1.95 (usually priced £3.99) I thought this was a bit of a bargain considering its size so decided to give it a go.
Clairol Herbal Essences Beautiful Ends Intensive Mask is presented in a 200ml bright red tub, it is very bright and stands out upon the shelf. The brand logo and product name are clearly displayed on the front, it also states that this mask protects split ends and is for dry / damaged hair. General information and the ingredients are given on the back of the tub along with a usage guide which suggests applying the product to the hair (paying particular attention to the ends) then leaving on for around five minutes before washing out. It is recommended to use this treatment once a week. Clairol claim that the use of this product will protect and defend hair against damage leaving the hair strong and "voluptuously velvety". It has a shelf life of twelve months. The lid simply screws off to reveal the mask inside.
The mask itself is a raspberry pink colour and of a thick consistency. It smells of any generic hair conditioner, maybe with a slightly added fruity fragrance. It not an offensive smell but I did find it rather boring and not quite as "luxury" as I would have liked from this type of product.
I used this Intensive Mask for around three weeks, using it twice a week instead of the recommended once a week. I applied a small amount to my hair and massaged it in, paying particular attention to the ends as advised. I never timed how long I left the product on my hair but would say I usually exceeded the five minute mark. The product felt a bit slimy on my hair and whilst it wasn't completely unpleasant it wasn't exactly an enjoyable experience either. The mask did stay in the hair well. It washed out extremely easily and thankfully left no unwanted after residue or stickiness. I dried my hair as usual.
I put my hair through quite a lot, I dye it, I straighten it, I style it and as a result my hair has become pretty damaged. I have to pay particular attention to the ends of my hair which become dry, frizzy and prone to breakage and split ends. So, as I mentioned before, a high quality deep conditioning mask is essential for keeping my hair looking good. I must admit that I was not overly impressed by Clairols Herbal Essences Intensive Mask, after using the product for a few weeks I didn't notice much of an improvement. I felt it did little to strengthen my hair nor did it prevent breakages or split ends. It did tame some of the frizziness but left the ends looking rather fluffy instead. On the plus side it did leave my hair with a nice added shine and tangle free. I would like to add that the tub recommends using this mask along with the matching shampoo, which I did not, possibly I would have had better results had I done this.
Had I paid full price for the mask I would have felt Pretty disappointed with it, but since it was only a few quid I can't complain too much. That being said its unlikely I will be buying it again regardless of price. Thankfully Santa brought me a selection of my favorite hair care products and since then I have been using Clairols Herbal essences Intensive Mask on my nine year old daughters hair instead. She has really thick hair which is neither dry or damaged but the conditioner seems to work pretty well at detangling her hair, so it seems she will use the rest up on her hair.
I've reviewed a collection of conditioners on here now as I bleached my hair a consecutive number of times in order to get my hair white blonde and as a consequence my hair was completely destroyed. I've tried several conditioners and I have experienced some excellent but also some shocking conditioners, and thankfully I can confirm that this particular conditioner worked wonders for my hair and nourished it from root to tip.
The smell is absolutely lush; it smells really fruity with a touch of floral scent and is a faint pastel pink colour. The conditioner instantly softens and smooths your hair and makes it much more manageable when you brush it. It also makes drying and straightening your hair less tedious and less painful on your scalp as you're not putting so much pressure on your hair.
Since the conditioner is rather rich it's advisable to use it on only the damaged areas of your hair rather than all over as I experienced excess greasiness on the scalp whilst using this conditioner. Whilst it actually nourishes and repairs your hair it does take it's toll on the scalp and upper hair cuticle and can give you flat hair if used in excess.
The price is very affordable and is on offer quite a lot of the time in most retailer supermarket stores which is even better for value. They are on average £2-£3 per pot, of course this depends on where you purchase it from and you may find yourself lucky and find it for even less, either way it's worth every bit of money.
Overall this is an impressive product that is rich and thick in texture and quality and therefore lessens the need to regularly use the conditioner and only needs to be used as a weekly treat for your hair, of course you may use it more than just once a week if you feel your hair would benefit from it if you have excessively dry and damaged hair, of course your hair doesn't have to be damaged and in need of repair you can still use this on regular hair to enhance the shine and strength in your hair, the choice is yours.
As you may remember, I became a fan of this brand after purchasing the "Beautiful Ends" shampoo and conditioner when they were recently on offer. The intensive hair mask is a treatment which is recommended for use once a week, to help protect and strengthen your hair against split ends. It was on offer in Superdrug so instead of £3.99 it cost £1.99 which is a bargain for this type of product.
The mask comes in a bright red tub with a screw top lid, and is purple in colour like the rest of the Beautiful Ends range. The packaging recommends that you wash your hair with the Beautiful Ends shampoo first, then generously apply this mask to your hair, paying particular attention to the roots. You then leave this to do its work for up to five minutes, and then rinse off.
I find these treatments a bit of an inconvenience because although you only use them once a week, it puts me off knowing you have to wait for five minutes before rinsing off. Even though five minutes flies by when you start attending to other matters us girls have to worry about, such as body scrubs and shaving, I don't particularly like standing there with long wet hair dripping down my back. But anyway, I decided to stop moaning and work this into my routine, using it every Sunday as part of a pre-working-week pampering session I always try to make time for.
The first thing I noticed about this mask is that it was quite thick compared to other masks I've used. Usually, I find masks like these are only a little bit thicker than normal conditioner, but this one required a bit of scooping as it was firmer than I was expecting.
The mask covers the hair well, and feels thick and luxurious as it's being applied. This has a positive effect psychologically because you feel like your hair is being taken care of. It smells pleasantly fruity although it doesn't smell quite as prominent as the shampoo and conditioner do, and doesn't linger on my hair for as long as the normal conditioner. It rinses out well, and my hair felt de-tangled and like it had been given some TLC.
After drying my hair, I was a bit disappointed that it didn't look instantly transformed. Don't get me wrong, it looked better than it did, but I didn't find this intensive mask did anything different to the Beautiful Ends conditioner, apart from detangle my hair much more. The comb literally glided through my hair after using this mask, so it must have done something to calm my hair down a bit.
I think if I had used this mask before I started using the Beautiful Ends shampoo and conditioner, I might have noticed the difference more. But this mask didn't really add anything that I wasn't getting from the other products in the range. That said, the packaging does focus on strengthening hair to avoid getting any further split ends, so maybe it's a product which has a longer term gain rather than short-term impact. For this reason, I have continued to use it, and hopefully it will protect my hair from further breakage.
I often go through phases of growing my hair, but end up getting it all cut off because I have so many split ends. Not wanting this to happen again, I decided to have a look in my local shopping centre for something that would improve the condition of my hair, letting me go a few more weeks without needing a haircut. I couldn't see many products tailored specifically for treating split ends, so when I noticed Herbal Essences' 'Beautiful Ends' range I decided to buy this 'split end protection intensive mask'. Purporting to be 'your hair's passionate Protector and Defender', this mask promises to 'leave your hair strong against damage to carry on...and on...and on. And keep it feeling voluptuously velvety'.
The mask is very easy to use: you simply shampoo your hair (you're directed to use Herbal Essences' Beautiful Ends shampoo, although I use my usual Tigi shampoo), then smooth it over your hair (concentrating particularly on the ends) and leave 'to luxuriate' for five minutes or so, before rinsing it off and styling hair as usual. The packaging recommends using this treatment once a week.
A few words on the appearance, fragrance and texture of this mask: It comes in the format of a pink conditioner which is scooped from its tub. It is slightly less thick than many other hair masks I've used, and easier to scoop up than others. This texture really warmed me to the product, as I often find that hair masks are too rich for my hair, - which is quite fine - leaving it feeling flat, weighed down and a little greasy. I also really like the scent of this mask: it has a pleasant, fruity smell that reminds me of red berries, probably due to the inclusion of red raspberry extracts.
So how does my hair look and feel after using this mask? After one use, my hair felt noticeably softer and smoother. I was pleasantly surprised to discover that my hair didn't feel as weighed down as other masks have left it in the past, and although I still had split ends, they were certainly less noticeable. With subsequent uses, the condition of my hair has improved further - it is soft, shiny and smooth and again, the visibility of my split ends has diminished.
When I bought this mask I was fortunate enough to find it on half price at Boots, so I paid £2.03 for it (it would usually be sold for £4.07 in Boots, or £3.99 in Superdrug). For this price, it was an absolute bargain, but I'd happily pay full price for this. Admittedly, I still have split ends after using it, but I think I've got to accept that only a haircut will get rid of them completely! Overall, therefore, I'd recommend buying this mask: it's pretty cheap, the relatively thin texture means that the tub will last a while and it really does improve the condition of your hair.
I've been looking for a good hair mask for a while, but as I'm trying desperately not to spend too much money it was hard finding one cheap enough. So, when I spotted this Herbal Essences Beautiful Ends Mask on offer at £1.99 in Morrisons I snapped one up. The ends of my fine hair do often look a bit worse for wear, especially after blow-drying so it sounded like it would be really good for me.
It comes in a bright red plastic pot with a screw off lid. The lid comes off easily but it fastens nice and tight so you don't have to worry about spills. The fact that it's in a pot means you just dip your hand in to get some of the mask out.
The mask has quite a thin texture compared to other masks I've used which means it can be hard to get it out of the pot without making a mess, it tends to slip easily off or through my fingers as I'm trying to scoop it out. It has a strong fruity scent like most Herbal Essences products, it is a nice scent but I find it quite chemical smelling which does take away from the pleasure a bit.
According to the pot you're supposed to use this after shampooing and apply it form root to tip paying extra attention to the tips. It's easy to cover your hair with it because of it's thin texture, it spreads really easily. Weirdly though I find even though it spreads easily I still have to use quite a lot of it at a time to cover all of my long but very fine hair. It rinses out easily and my hair isn't left feeling heavy or thick with product, and there's no greasy residue left behind.
I find my hair feels very soft after using this and unlike a lot of mask and intensive conditioners it doesn't make my fine hair greasy, even at the roots. My hair is left looking quite bouncy and light, and it feels smooth and soft. The ends, which are normally quite flyaway due to the fine texture of my hair, look much more healthy and smoothed down.
The only slight downside to this product for me is that the results don't last that well. With other masks I usually find the results last a few days even through washing my hair every day, but the results of this only seem to last until I wash my hair, which is a bit disappointing.
Overall I do think this is a good product and I would recommend it for anyone who wants a quick fix for smooth ends.
MY HAIR BIO:
I have medium brown long curly hair which can be a nightmare sometimes!
I always wash my hair with shampoo and then condition it with general conditioner, then put this mask on after for maximum conditioning.
I haven't had my hair cut since January 2010 and this mask has rid me of having dry split ends.
I use this once a week, and apply is generously to the ends of my hair but not too much on my roots and rest of my hair.
WHAT IT DOES:
Herbal essences beautiful ends mask is a deep conditioning treatment which will revive your hair from dull/dry/damaged hair, to beautiful locks!
This product makes your hair super soft and will keep the ends of your hair from drying up and snapping off. There is nothing worse than having tiny bits of hair on you when your ends are broken and start to snap. Once applied to your hair (mainly on your ends) leave it in for around 5 minutes. I usually wash the rest of my body then wash it off after I've finished that. I would suggest towel drying it very well before you blow dry, as you're hair will be very soft, and any left over conditioner will dry and leave your hair looking greasy. This conditioning mask is great for bringing your hair back to life!
THE SMELL & THE LOOK:
red raspberry and silk extracts.
For once, you can smell what they are telling you it is scented with!. I think the only smell I've recognised is a coconut shampoo. The raspberry scent is wonderful and it stays really well in your hair. The colour is a pale pink and is very thick in consistency which is perfect for deep conditioning.
PRICES AND PLACES:
From £3.50-£5 in supermarkets, wilkinsons and other stores.
I always buy it in Tesco when it is on offer in a bulk buy.
This mask is brilliant for keeping away those pesky split ends. You should see the results after 2 or 3 times of using the mask but will feel the results on your first use. Use it around once a week to get the most out of it.
Treat your hair nicely! Let it dry naturally and see the difference from natural to blow drying.
It's a big part of getting split ends and damaged hair.
Be kind to your hair and it will be kind back!
REVIEW ALSO ON CIAO
I recently coloured my hair and had highlights done and a few days after doing this I felt as though my hair was really dry and the ends felt like straw. I haven't had my hair cut for a few months, so I was also suffering from brittle, dry split ends too. I use conditioner on my hair every time I wash it which is about 3-4 times a week. I do straighten my hair which I know probably doesn't do my hair any good, I do how-ever use a heat defence spray and also use a hair mask on my hair once a week. I love the herbal essences range and always find their shampoo, conditioners and hair treatments really good and effective. I decided to go for the split end protection mask. I know this wouldn't get rid of my split ends, but I was hoping it may help to condition my hair and stop it feeling so dry.
The herbal Essences range comes in brightly coloured bottles and stand out from other shampoos due to the bright colour of the bottles. The hair mask comes in a round tub which is a bright red colour. On the front it states that the product is for dry/damaged hair and contains red raspberry & silk extracts. The mask itself claims to protect against split ends and breakage. The tub which holds 200ml of product has a screw lid and there is information on the back of the product on how to use the mask and a list of ingredients. Silk Proteins are perfect for dry, damaged or colour treated hair and help to penetrate and re-build damaged hair. Silk extracts is often found in a lot of different conditioner's and other hair-care products.
I purchased this from Boots and it cost me £4.07. This is also available to buy in Superdrug and some Supermarkets as well. Prices may very in different stores and at different times of the year due to offer's and promotions.
***USING THE PRODUCT***
I used shampoo on my hair as normal and then scooped up a small amount of product out of the tub and rubbed on to my hair making sure all the hair was covered from root to tip. The mask was a light pink colour and smelt slightly of raspberries. The smell was very pleasant and the mask felt silky in my hands when applying the product to my hair. I did use a plastic wide toothed comb to comb the product through my hair to ensure all my hair was covered. You don't need to use a huge amount of this as a little bit goes a long way. I waited approximately 5 mins and then washed the product out using luke-warm water. Previous products I have used for my hair, I feel as though I have to stand under the shower for ages before I feel as though the product has been washed out my hair. This mask washed out my hair very easily, with minimum effort and my hair felt really smooth and soft. I could still smell the product slightly in my hair which was nice. I have blonde hair and I always worry about shampoo or hair products making my hair look dull and greasy. I blow-dried my hair as normal, until it was almost dry.
After I finished drying my hair I looked in the mirror and also felt my hair. I felt as though it was still a little dry, how-ever I put this down to the split ends which I already had before using this product. The product of course won't eliminate split ends if you already have them but it does claim to help prevent them when using this at least once every week. The following day my hair felt a lot smoother and softer then it did after I had blow-dried it. I found this rather strange; how-ever it felt as though it was in a lot better condition than it was before I used the hair mask. Yes, my split ends were still there but my hair feel softer and more conditioned. The smell of the product had now gone from my hair which was a little disappointing; how-ever I didn't expect this to last for long anyway. Even after straightening my hair it still felt smooth & soft. Because my hair felt smooth and softer I did feel as though it looked better than normal. Even after 1-2 days, my hair was still looking nice and feeling soft. I find that some conditioners and shampoo can sometimes make your hair greasy after a few days; how-ever the mask didn't make my hair feel greasy even after 2 days.
Although my hair was very dry and brittle, with split ends I feel as though the product still did a good job in making my hair feel smooth, soft and conditioned. I will use this product again after having my hair cut and see how the product works then as I think it's a fantastic conditioner. I can't really comment on if it does prevent split ends, as I had them to start off with and they were still noticeable to me when looking at my hair. Perhaps they were less noticeable to other people though. I did find that the screw lid isn't easy to undo and put back on if you have wet hands; how-ever this isn't a huge problem. I would recommend this to others if they have dry/damaged hair, but if you have split ends already you may find that this product doesn't make a huge difference for you. I will definitely be using the mask again, probably when my hair is feeling a little dry, and when I haven't got so many split ends. I think this product works well and is worth the money.
(Review may also appear on ciao)
i have always suffered from split ends. I often colour my hair and as it is very fine and dry even without the extra damage colouring causes i suffer a lot from looking rather like worzel gummidge. My hair is without question my very own blonde haystack.
My hairdresser grumbled at me every visit about how dry my hair is and when am i going to look after it properly. She doesn't believe my excuse of 12 hour shift work as justifiable for not caring for my hair like i should.
I use herbal essences shampoo and conditioner regularly as i like the smell and it always washes well out of my hair. I went into boots to buy some and noticed a fairly large round tub labelled beautiful ends - split end protection intensive mask. This sounded too good to be true.
Firstly the cost. It cost £4.07 from boots for 200ml and occasionally is on offer with other hebal essences products. The tub is round and fairly large and bright red with the hebal essences logo on it and the information on the side although the writing is a little on the small side. Definitely need my glasses for this one.
The information describes it as for dry/damaged hair, to be rinsed out, and will leave your hair strong and voluptuously velvety. Directions instruct you to pamper your hair with the "beautiful ends" shampoo, then "lavish from root to tip" with this intensive mask then leave for 5 minutes and rinse away. For use once a week. I wasn't sure if this meant to use this once a week instead of the conditioner or as well as so i use it instead of.
It says red raspberry and silk extracts. When you open the pot which is very simple just unscrew the lid the smell hits you instantly. It is not unpleasant but rather sweet. I'm not sure i would say raspberry smell but it could be described as a berry sort of smell. It is a deep pink colour and if i tilt the pot to one side the liquid is quite thick but does run slowly to that side. It feels quite moist to the touch and slightly oily which I assume is a good thing for dry hair to replace the lost oils.
It doesn't say how much to use but as it said lavish i used a good handful and generously applied it as directed after shampooing and rinsing. It feels very pleasant. I start at the roots and massage into my hair until i reach the ends. I have hair halfway down my back so I need to use a second handful to concentrate on the tips of my hair. This has taken about an eighth of the potful but as it is recommended for once a week I am not too concerned.
I sit back and leave it in for the 5 minutes as recommended. My hair feels quite slimy with the mask on and very flat - not like it normally does as I am washing it when it seems to still stick up. The 5 minutes are up and I use the shower to rinse it out. It washes out very easily and my hair is still flat which is not usual for me. Next I comb it. To my surprise it is all but tangle free. This is a first. My hair has normally tied itself up into a million knots by this point and takes ages to untangle.
It feels wonderful as the comb easily glides through my hair from root to tip and I get out of the shower feeling happy and content without the normal tangle removal fight I have which undoes any relaxation in the bath or shower.
Sometimes I use the hair dryer to dry my hair and sometimes I air dry it. I have done both after using the mask and my hair is no longer frizzy or scarecrow looking like it used to be. In fact it looks silky and tamed. I still need to use straightners to take the curls out for a completely sleek look but either way my hair doesn't look dry and my split ends although some are still there are nothing like they used to be.
You can still smell the mask in your hair even once it is dry. It's lovely to smell the gorgeous scent as your hair moves. The smell does lessen over time but defintiely lasts throughout the day.
Even my hairdresser has noticed the improvement. She doesn't totally approve because she keeps trying get me to buy expensive professional hair care products but she can't argue about the change.
For me this is just what I'bve been looking for. My only down side is I make sure I use it when I know I am going somewehere special and I can't use it every day. I love the effect it has on my hair. I notice that after washing my hair without it by 4 or 5 days later my hair is definitely trying to do its own thing again so I use it every 5 days rather than a week but this doesn't seem to have a bad effect on my hair.
The tub lasts for just over a month for me which works out about £1 per week. I can cope with this cost for the effects it has. Overall I love this product. If only it were usable everytime I wash my hair instead of using conditioner it would be absolutely perfect. Even once a week this is still a must have product in my bathroom collection.
The Beautiful Ends Mask aims to protect your split ends and make them appear much healthier. Which is perfect, as I tend use a lot of heat and products that dry out my hair, so having healthy ends is crucial.
The claim - Herbal Essences Beautiful Ends Split End Protection Intensive Mask helps protect your hair against split ends and breakage. Indulge yourself with its velvety conditioner and pampering treatments.
I thought this was to good to be true.
The product comes in a red plastic container with a nice simple design around the side and on the lid. It is said to contain red raspberry and silk extracts. The smell is gorgeous, reminds me of mixed berries and looks like a thick creamy strawberry yoghurt. I was very pleased that the product came in a tub rather than a tube or bottle as you can use every last bit, so your getting the most out of your money.
You apply the mask ideally after using 'Herbal Essences Beautiful Ends Shampoo'. You apply it thickly from root to tip and then gently massage it through the hair and scalp making sure every area is covered. I tend to leave it on for about 15 minutes, but you can keep it on for as little or long as you like. Whilst washing it out it feels very smooth and silky to the touch and once I have rinsed all of the product out, I use cold water to close my cuticles and to add extra shine. After I applied the 'Herbal Essences Beautiful Ends Protecting cream', and dry and styled my hair as normal.
I noticed a massive improvement to the texture, look and feel of my hair. My ends were definitely looking a lot healthier, extremely soft to the touch, smelled amazing and very shiny! I must say the results were remarkable and I continue to use this product once a week, leaving my hair looking its very best.
The only downside that I did find to this product was that because it was very thick, when applying sometimes you can drop a little down the drain or onto the floor depending on where your applying it. But not much of a biggie as I have been very weary not to do this.
I bought this in Boots for about £4 which I thought was a brilliant price for the end result. Also it lasts rather a long time, if only using once a week. I tend to get about 8-10 uses out of one tub and I have fairly long hair.
Overall a lovely smelling product, which makes your hair resistibly soft and healthy for a exceptional price. A must have in your hair care routine!
I have quite long hair and anyone with hair past their shoulders will know that it does need extra care if you want to keep it in a good condition. I haver always wanted to keep my hair in as good a condition as possible and always try to use some kind of treatment roughly once a week, sometimes more if I feel my hair is slightly dryer than usual. I do use heated styling appliances and colour my hair, so I feel it is important to look after it in-between these times.
I first tried this when Boots had a 3 for 2 offer on all haircare. There were a few products I had been wanting to try for a while and this seemed like the perfect chance to try them.
The mask is quite thick and creamy and I only use it on the lengths of the hair, never the roots as it would make my roots feel greasy (I have tried in the past). The main thing is to cover the ends in the mask as this is the weakest part of the hair, being the oldest.
The instructions ask you to leave it on for 3 minutes but I sometimes do a deeper treatment and wrap the hair in a warm towel, leaving it for as long as I can. Whether I leave it on for 3 mintues or half an hour I find that my hair feels silky and soft the next day and has a lovely shine to it. The only downside for me is that sometimes my hair is a bit sleeker than usual, which personally, I don't particularly like. Other than that a great produt and very cheap for what it does.
Price- Roughly £4 Available in supermarkets and shops like Boots, Superdrug etc..

My Hair type: Fine Hair thats get greasy quickly but with dry ends.
As other girls may know healthy, thick and strong hair is not something we are all blessed with...and I definitely am not. When the Cheryl Cole asks 'Weak, limp, lifeless hair?' I think to myself yes! That's me! So, I added healthy hair onto my (starting to get long) list of beauty wants!
Funnily enough to my reference above it was reading an interview with Cheryl Cole that I decided to purchase a hair mask- as apparently she loves to sit with one on whilst having a pamper, and who wouldn't want air as pretty as Cheryl Coles!
I had also just had my hair cut in an actual hairdressers for the first time in years ( as a student I quite happily let my friends cut my hair....or myself :S) so thought now that it was all cut and healthy ends it would be a good time to start looking after it!
I chose Clairol Herbal Essences Beautiful Ends Mask because it was on offer at the time and was £2 so it was perfect for testing out - no point in spending £5 + and it having no effect on my hair or me not liking it!
I had a bad habit for a while of abusing my hair with drying, straightners, tongs etc..so my ends can get a bit frazzled so I choose one that was hydrating.
This mask smells very nice, as I find with most Herbal Essences products and it is a nice pink colour in the tub! If you were to put your fingers in you can feel it is quite watery, I had it expected it to be more of a thick conditional type texture but it's to me somewhere in between shampoo and conditioner.
*Using The Product*
I have very fine hair which can get greasy quite quickly at the roots so this
Product is not really suitable for my roots. I discovered this after the first use as my hair got far too greasy the next day! So if you have fine hair be careful how much you use on top!
I massage the product into the ends of my hair first, as I find taking that extra minute to do this really helps on my hair health in general, I think put more on from about the base of my neck downwards as this is where I start to frazzle out a little. I let this sit for about 5 minutes -it says you should leave it for 2 minutes but I like to leave it on longer- and then I rub the teeniest bit of hair mask into my palms and quickly run it through the top of my hair. I then rinse it off after a minute or two, the reason I leave this until last and do not leave it on as long is as I explained above but doing this still allows me the catch those fly-away hairs closer to the roots.
I cannot stress enough with this product that it NEEDS to be washed out properly. When you think you've got it all rinse it once more just in case! As for the first few times I used this mask I didn't like the residue that was left on my hair and made it feel a bit slimey and too close to greasy. However, on taking extra time washing it out I now like it!
The first few tries were not a success, as above I didn't like the feel of my hair afterwards and couldn't see that my hair looked any better because it just looked somewhere between shiny and greasy. This is why I haven't given it 4 stars, as I do like it and it has done my hair good but I didn't go WOW!
Once I stopped being in such a rush washing it out and took my time I found I actually quite like the result! I can't say that instantly my hair looked fabulous and all my split ends had disappeared but my hair definitely felt softer and looked shinier. Even after drying with the hair dryer, when my hair tends to fluff up it looked slightly healthier.
I now use this mask as my conditioner every other day to try and keep my hair in a decent condition. To be honest, that's what it feels like rather than a mask, as from a mask I would expect to see a bigger change in my hair.
I actually used this product last night and looking at my ends now they look nice! And even better, my hair doesn't look like it's in great need to washing!
I will admit I'm not going to rush out and buy this again as I would like to try out a few more brands to see how my hair looks with those. However, should they not work out, I could be returning to my local Boots for more!
I wish this little miracle was on the market about three years ago.
I had decided to grow the layers that were in my hair out. I had had roughly the same style for 7 years with the same layers just varied lengths and I got seriously fed up. I have very thick hair with a natural kink that if not cut properly just frizzes up and out creating a witch look I was not fond of. Short of cutting it all off ( been there done that) I decided I would try and grow it down to my bum like I had had it when I was younger, all one length so no witch like badly cut layers. Unfortunately with my hair also being dry I had a hard time keeping my ends nicely protected and hydrated.
If I had had this I would not have got so frustrated and chopped off my hair.
Since I bought this wonderful mask I have decided to grow my hair once more with much more confidence now. I have tried many many so called miracle remedies for my hair but non with such wonderful sustained results.
I use this twice a week even though the directions say only once a week is needed, purely due to the condition of my hair. I have had only positive results. I leave the conditioner for as long as I can but never longer than 10 mins and then rinse well to be left with the softest shiniest hair I have ever had.
Anyone with hair shoulder length or more this is a MUST HAVE in your bathroom.
I also love the fact it comes in a pot not a tube or bottle as you can get every drop out without the need to dilute it.
My only criticism is I wish there was more in the pot, but that is probably due to the thickness of my hair I only get about 4 treatments per pot. That is just me whinging to be honest for the results it is worth every penny.
In anyone's book 10 / 10
