Somehow my now five year old daughter has become a real girly-girl. I first noticed this just before her second birthday, when she started to look at other little girls’ hair clips and hair bands closely. On one particular occasion she had an Oscar-worthy meltdown when I made her leave behind in the shop three hair bands she had been trying on simultaneously.
Our, or rather our daughter's, hair-care draw in the bathroom is filled with a wide variety of hair accessories. I bought our girl two packets of these butterfly “snap clips” approximately two years ago. Surprisingly, not one has been lost or permanently misplaced. This is probably because our daughter likes wearing these so much that she always wishes to know precisely where they are.
Hair clips such as these adorable butterfly clips from Claire's have been around for decades, albeit in a much more basic format. This range comes in several colors of butterflies. The butterflies are manufactured from some kind of wire and mesh. They are delicate to look at however in my opinion they must be quite robust given they have withstood my daughter’s manhandling for two years. The butterflies themselves can be manipulated into various positions, which our daughter adores doing. The different poses remain in their "new" pose with no problem.
These hair accessories stay in well yet they are not so “grippy” as to hurt the wearer. They are easy enough for a child of three or four (and upwards) to put in the hair themselves.
In summary, it is easy to recommend these fun hair clips.
When I was a little girl my favourite shop was Claire's accessories. I used to love going in there with my Dad on a Saturday and picking out loads of fun and girly stuff and now I've started that tradition with my little girl and its become her favourite shop too and a must stop when we are in town. She doesn't get something every time we go in but most of the time she does as the items are well priced and cute and a little treat is always nice now and again.
My daughter loves butterflies, probably because I love butterflies so I tend to buy her quite a few things with butterflies on such as dresses, tops, and hair accessories etc. Recently I bought her some butterfly hair clips from Monsoon which were lovely but the butterfly attachment was made of metal and was quite heavy and she has really thin hair and it kept on slipping out of her hair really easily so we decided to go to Claire's to see if we could find some better butterfly clips in there.
We were pleasantly surprised at the nice range of butterfly items they have in store, I guess other people really love butterflies too as there were lots of different butterfly items to choose from. I always let my little girl pick her hair slides herself as I think it builds confidence and this was the pack she picked up. I think she was definitely attracted to the nice colours as in this pack there are six hair slides that include two different shades of pink, blue, yellow and green.
The slides come on a handy plastic holder which we actually store the slides on when we are not using them so its a nice way of packaging them. The clips are made of metal and are the ones that snap shut and open by applying pressure to the middle part that is curved. My little girl is three and a half and finds these clips easy to put in and take out although she often just pulls them out, pulling out some of her hair as well so I've had to remind her to press them open and then pull them out. The nice thing is with these slides is that the butterfly adornment is really light so the slides stay in place really well and do not move that often.
The butterflies are made of wire and mesh and so you can move them about which is really cute. You can pull their wings up to make them look like they are flying and my daughter actually likes to play with them out of her hair too. The butterflies are quite sparkly too and eye catching and she always gets lots of compliments when she is wearing them. There is a tiny little jewel in the middle of the butterfly which helps them to sparkle too. They are good quality and I think will last a long time and for just £3.50 for six I think they are really well priced and have made a little girl very happy!
My daughter has had a problem with pulling her hair out since she first started to grow hair, luckily now it isn't happening so often and the patchy hair she once had is now growing and turning into lovely hair. To encourage her to stop pulling it, I've been buying various hair accessories as treats for not pulling it out for so long. Claire's accessories seems to be a favourite shop at the moment.
These butterfly snap clips are part of Claire's accessories range for younger girls, Claire's Club, this means they are only available to buy from Claire's stores. This pack of six usually costs £3.50.
The hair clips come on the typical packaging for this type of product on a long, thin piece of plastic. They are already clipped into place so you don't have to worry about them falling off and losing them before you even get home. I really love the fact that each clip is a different colour, many clips you buy these days feature two of the same design but each one of these is different so it's a welcome change. They are the typical length of most hair clips being around an inch long, at the end of each clip is a butterfly detail that really brings the clip to life. These butterflies are made with a thin wire so they are able to be manipulated into whatever type of butterfly you like, my daughter personally likes hers with the wings up so it looks like it's in mid-flight.
The hair clips are easy to snap into place, to begin with they are a little stiff but after a few uses they loosen up enough to make it a breeze putting them in the hair. Once they are snapped into place, providing it's near the root of some hair, it stays in place really well. My three year old daughter likes to think she can put these into place herself but she puts them in towards the end of the hair and they often slip out of place but that's only down to her not putting them in the right place. The variety of colours of the hair clips is nice, half of them are pinks and purples but green, blue and yellow are also included so you can match them to the outfits the kids are wearing or just let them take their pick.
We've had these since Christmas time and none have experienced the butterflies falling off or the clips breaking in any way so I think we've had our monies worth already. I'd definitely recommend these butterfly clips for young girls, they have a variety of colours, each one is different and the hold in the hair extremely well.
