      An effective natural conditioner

Burt's Bees is a company that makes products from a range of natural ingredients including beeswax that are not tested on animals. They are based in America but their products are now widely available in a number of UK retailers including Debenhams, Boots and and John Lewis. I have previously reviewed the Burt's Bees Grapefruit and Sugar Beet shampoo and this is the conditioner in the same set. The conditioner contains a number of natural ingredients including grapefruit extract, essential citrus oils and sugar beet together with penetrating marula oil to replenish, soften and improve manageability without weighing down hair. The conditioner comes in a similar plastic bottle to the shampoo with the Burt's Bees logo on it that is recognisable as part of the brand. On opening it the smell is less intense than the shampoo but you can still smell the grapefruit which is light and fresh. The consistency of the conditioner is quite thick and rich and you need to really shake the bottle to get it out. It smoothed onto my hair easily though and seemed to instantly be absorbed so that when I rinsed it off there was not any residue or stickiness left. The conditioner left my hair feeling really soft and I was very pleased with the results. It did not weigh my hair down too much which many rich conditioners do so I would say that it is suitable for fine hair that needs a small amount of conditioning as well as damaged hair. The conditioner costs about £10 for 300ml which is quite expensive as you are paying for the natural ingredients. However if you want a conditioner that is effective which has only natural ingredients then this is a worthwhile purchase

      Not keen!

Recently I splashed out and purchased myself the Burt's Bees Super Shiny Shampoo and of course, as always, I purchased the matching conditioner as .I don't like different fragrances on my head for some reason...never had done and so all shampoo and conditioners have to correspond to each other in my world! This costing £10.77 a 340g bottle seemed rather steep to me but I wanted something that would be kind to my hair, natural and give it some gloss to pep it up a bit and so after much deliberation I purchased it from Amazon. The Packaging: Well like I have previously mentioned this product comes in a 340g sized bottle which is white with a white push button integrated dispenser to the top of it concealed by a see-through safety cap which pops on and off with ease. On the front of the label there is a picture depicted of half a grapefruit and some sugar beet and we are told that it is Burt's Bees Super Shiny Grapefruit & Sugar Beet Conditioner and the size is stated along with some information written in foreign languages. To the sides of the bottle other information given tells me a little bit about the product, the ingredients are listed (this contains no parabens, phthalate or sulfate and is 98.2% natural) and contact details for Burt's Bees are given. Nice, simple packaging this is and I do like the push button dispenser that works simply each and every time I use it and I can really measure out how much product I want per application too. The Conditioner: The conditioner is white, soft to the touch and quite thick though I have no problems dispensing it I wouldn't call this runny at all. It has a light smell of grapefruits to it so it is unisex in its fragrance but to me this smells like a washing up liquid and I'm really not keen on it at all A little of this goes a long way though and its not greasy and I simply massage it in and rinse, or leave this on my head for a couple or so minutes or so and it rinses out with complete ease. However like the shampoo I found this to dry my hair out slightly which is odd considering it contains grapefruit, orange and lemon peel oils along with glycerin. My hair felt rough and dried out (particularly at the ends) though I did find this to dry out my usually greasy roots and to keep the grease at bay for longer. It did feel like it weighed my hair down a bit and the fragrance vanished completely within an hour or so (which I was grateful of cos I didn't like if you remember!). However this does create shine! My hair make feel like a birds nest and dry to the touch but I can't argue this gives super shiny, healthy and strong looking hair! Verdict: I think this conditioner is overpriced and that it really doesn't smell great. Great probably for greasy hair along with the matching shampoo but mine felt bad and therefore I won't be purchasing it again! Available from sites such as Amazon and from the Burt's Bees website (www.burtsbees.com). This review is also posted on Ciao under this same username.

Excellent product if you don't mind the price

I have been using Burts Bees Super Shiny conditioner with the Super Shiny Shampoo for several months now. I am fussy about the conditioner I use - the wrong sort makes my hair flat and greasy. Purchase Price At a price of £10.99 (through Amazon, including postage) for a 350mL, most people would not describe this product as cheap. It is in the range that I would usually pay for conditioner, though, so although I felt it was on the high side, I didn't think it unreasonably priced. Packaging The packaging is fairly straightforward - plastic bottle with the type of lid that you push down on one side to pop the opening up on the other side. I like the choice of packaging - the bottle is rigid enough to hold it's shape but soft enough that you can give it a little squeeze if you need to encourage the product to exit. The bottle is white plastic, but is see-through enough that you can tell whether it contains conditioner or shampoo. The labelling is clear & informative. On the down side, the package & labelling of the conditioner is very similar to the shampoo - I find myself identifying which bottle I want based on the colour of the contents. Product The conditioner itself is a light, smooth-textured cream, with a very light scent that's difficult to identify & leaves only a very faint lingering perfume in your hair. The conditioner has a pleasant, light feel - not a heavy or slimey texture. It doesn't clot or stick in the bottle, and spreads easily through the hair... but you do need to check carefully to make sure it's all washed out! The Result Great! After using Super Shiny Shampoo & Conditioner I can usually go 3-4 days between washes, unless I've used spray or setting products on my hair in the meantime. My hair dries easily & quickly and ends up with a smooth & shiny 'clean' look. While my hair is naturally fine-textured, it is less 'flyaway' after using this product, and doesn't leave the heavy or greasy feel that some conditioners for fine hair do. I like the fact that it doesn't leave a strong scent in my hair, too. On the whole - yes, it costs a bit more than many other conditioners, but if you have trouble finding a conditioner that suits you then this one is well worth a try.
