“ Brand: Boots / Volume / Type: Hair Mousse „
I do really like this mousse. I apply it on my wet hair and it transforms them from frizzy loose waves into defined curls, alongside the Boots Essentials Curl Creme, which is also a great and inexpensive beauty product. I repurchased it after loving it the first time and continued to use it. However, halfway through the can, the spray stopped working. It only lets out liquid - I think the pressure must have gone in the can. I know it's silly, but it has put me off a little. Instead, I've been using a mousse from Umberto Gianni. But it is still a great product! It's not too crunchy and doesn't make curls too bouncy or tight. It doesn't eliminate frizz but then that's hard to do with our kind of hair! I think it has a price tag of £1.05 so to be entirely honest, it's amazing value and a must have. I think I need to suck up my bad bottle experience and buy another!
Buying hair products is always a little difficult, as everyone's hair is so different so one person's beauty must-have can be anothers worst nightmare. However, I will do my level best to keep this as fair and general as possible. General advantages of this product are in a decent number. It is easy to use- simply shake firmly, turn upside down, squeeze on to palm, rub hands together and apply to hair. The amount used and way of application are different to different individuals, depending on the length of the hair, the type of hair you have, and the look you are going for. As a guide, I have longish hair ( just above the bottom of my rib cage) in long layers with a combination of a few spiral curls in other wavy-curly bits, depending on how my hair is feeling, and so i use small vaseline tin sized amount, flop my head upside down and scrunch the product in firmly, followed by hairspray. Another advantage of this product is that I find it does help my curls form and stay formed, reducing frizz. When left naturally my hair curls when wet, but then this drops out and an unattractive frizz forms ontop. This products certainly helps with these things, bu in no way are perfect, sleek spiral curls created. Another, minor point is that the product does have quite a pleasant smell, which is always nice. As for disadvantages, like I said before, its not perfect in doing what it does. I also find it prevents my hair drying quickly-it can take 3-4 hours to dry with the product in, which isn't ideal. It can be a little sticky, but it doesnt't weigh my curls down which is good. All in all, not a bad product for the price, it is the essentials range! It is probably worth spending a little more and getting something a little better, but for the poor student I am, it does a good enough job!
I recently bought this product to try and save some money and it is mega cheap!!! Definitely a big positive. I must admit I have neither straight nor curly hair - it is slightly wavy, so I use this product to add volume normally. I usually apply onto damp hair and towel dry my hair again to remove excess mousse and then blow dry my hair upside down to add volume - It usually really helps to add volume and removes frizz. One disadvantage is I find I have to be careful by the amount I apply as it can make my hair quite greasy. This product is great for straightening hair as well, because it means your hair does not look flat, with boosted roots and more body it gives a great style and looks naturally straight. When curling my hair, I use this product on damp hair and again once it is styled. Seems to ensure a good hold as well as a nice shine. In Summery Good Product, but be careful how much you use!
I like to alternate between leaving my hair with a natural look, straightening it to within an inch of its life, and curling my hair with either my curling tongs or my ghds. I tend to like to curl my hair rather than straighten it for nights out, and it does tend to curl quite easily with both my tongs and my ghds as it is naturally a little bit wavy. However I do tend to find that the curls don't stay in that well, and tend to droop and drop out way before the evening is over. I was moaning about this to a friend whose curled hair always stays curled all night, and she said that she always uses mousse on her hair first and this ensures that the curls then stay put all night. So I decided to give mousse a go, I'd not used mousse on my hair for years, not since having a perm as a teenager and scrunching my long ringlety curls with a handful of mousse! The mousse that I ended up buying was the Boots Essentials Styling Mousse for curly hair. I basically chose this one because it was cheap - just £1.00. I figured that if it didn't work for me then it wasn't a lot of money wasted for a product that would never get used again. The mousse comes in a 200ml canister, and the 'curly hair' mousse is in a bright pink canister. The Boots Essentials range of styling mousse's also includes 'added volume' mousse which comes in a bright yellow canister, 'mega hold' mousse which comes in a blue canister, and 'extra firm hold' mousse which comes in a purple canister. They are all 200ml in size, and they all cost just £1.00. So back to the curly hair mousse. I don't use a lot of this, I probably just use an egg shaped ball of mousse on my slightly longer than shoulder length hair, and I distribute it evenly throughout my vigorously towel dried hair. I then let my hair dry naturally as I don't own a hairdryer. This doesn't leave my hair sticky or tacky at all, in fact it feels as if there's no product in there whatsoever. Once my hair is dry and I'm ready to curl it I just curl it as I normally would with either my tongs or my ghds. My hair curls just as easily as before, but the big difference is that the curls now last. They do still droop slightly as the evening wears on, but I think that this is due to the weight of my hair, I have very thick hair and lots of it, I don't think that any product would keep the curls looking like they did when I've first curled it. I'm more than happy with the slight drooping though as sometimes this can look much more natural anyway, and it is only very slight drooping - they don't drop out completely, which used to happen before. My curls look natural, and certainly don't look or feel coated in products after I've used this. My hair still feels natural and soft, and is easy to brush through the following day. This doesn't make my hair look any shinier or healthier or different, but I'm not bothered about that at all, I just wanted my curls to hold and they do, so that's good enough for me, especially at such a low price. I'm on my second canister of this mousse this now, and it's definitely something that I'm going to continue to buy. It lasts for ages as I don't use a lot and I don't always curl my hair. I would say that I got about a year out of my last canister, I certainly can't complain at a year for just £1.00!
I love styling my hair, especially when I am going somewhere special. During a trip to Boots, I decided I would pick up some hair mousse, I choose the Boots Essential Styling Mousse Curl because it was much cheaper than the other brand names on the shelf at the time. I have quite curly hair naturally, so I like to use this mousse just to hold my curls in place for longer. Application I have found that this mousse is really easy to apply, sometimes I put it in my hair after I have washed it and before I blow dry it and it gives my hair extra volume, however I usually just use it when I am curling my hair. I have found that it is best to only use a little bit of this mousse at a time in my hair as it gives quite a good hold and it leaves my hair very sticky if I use too much. To curl my hair with this mousse I simply apply it to my hair after washing and then let it dry natural, this gives me a nice mix of curls and waves. Results I think that this is a great mousse, it has quite a good hold on my hair and when I curl my hair, it lasts for a day or two, just needing a few touch ups after sleeping on it. Personally I do not really like the smell of hair mousse, however I can tolerate this one, it smells like most mousses I have ever tried, except it isn't as strong so the smell does not linger for as long. As long as I do not overdo it with this mousse, my hair does not feel overly sticky when I have curled my hair, it actually feels quite natural. I really like this mousse because it does not weigh down my hair. Price and Availability You can buy a 200ml bottle of this mousse for around £1 in Boots, I think that this is a great price for a hair mousse, especially one that holds as well as this one. Overall I think that this is a great mousse, it is cheap, easy to apply, smells ok and holds my curls in my hair perfectly. The only thing to watch out with is that you do not use too much in your hair at a time. Overall I would give this mousse 4 out of 5 stars. *also on ciao under lorrainek90
=== The product === This is a styling mousse designed for use with curly hair and is designed to help give your curls a natural look with flexible hold. === The packaging === This mousse comes provided in tall thin aluminium can. This has a plastic press down dispenser on the top that allows the mousse to be released. === How to use this === Simply press down on the dispenser to allow some mousse to be released. This is simple to use and the mousse will expand once it hits your hand. I usually apply this mousse to wet hair, scrunch it through and then dry my hair before heading out for the evening. I have used this, on occasion, on dry hair and this works well too providing you have a natural curl to your hair, as I do. === Where to buy this & for how much? === This can be purchased from Boots stores and www.boots.co.uk with one can costing £1.02. There is usually a special offer of 2 for £1.50 on the line of Boots Essential mousse and I usually purchase two at a time to take advantage of this offer. === Overall opinion === The first thing I like about this 'essentials' range is that products for different hair types are coloured differently. This makes it easy to differentiate between the products that I actually want and the ones that are no use to me when browsing the shelves in Boots. The packaging of this mousse is good. The styling is nice, it looks pretty on display in my bathroom. There is a plastic cap that protects the nozzle from damage and the nozzle itself is strong and sturdy. Many things in my bathroom get knocked off and thrown about from time to time and this has been able to withstand this on more than one occasion without breaking or becoming damaged. A light press is enough to release the mousse. This mousse is very simple to use and works well. The only downside I can think of is that the effects do not last all day so if I am creating a more extravagant curl I will just do this when heading out for the evening and I find that this is enough time that the mousse continues working without letting me down. My curls are left looking full of volume, texture and style when using this mousse and they have a natural flexible to them which is fantastic. My curls are able to bob around after using this and I am very pleased that they do not become stiff after using this. The price of this mousse is fantastic and while I do end up needing to wash my hair the morning after using this I would probably wash it anyway after a night out with friends. As I have a natural curl to my hair now I do not know if this is good at styling straight hair, however, this product is sold as being designed for curly hair. I have used this for styling my hair in a different type of curl and it held in place for several hours.
My hair is a combination of waves and curls, so trying to find product that enhances my curls and stops frizz can be difficult. In the past I have tried various mousses, sprays, and gels but none have been exceptionally successful. So, the other week when I was browsing the 'hair' isle in Boots I came across this product. The bright pink bottle caught my eye and as soon as I saw the price I was immediately drawn in. Costing just £1 I was happily willing to try this product. The mousse is in the Boots Essential range, the range also sells items such as hairspray and you may be familiar with some of the other products they make. The mousse is sold at just £1 (4 points on your Boots Advantage Card) for 200ml, which is an extremely good price in comparison with other hair mousses. The product is in a bright pink tin can that says 'curly hair' down the side (the design has changed since the picture above was taken). The lid is a translucent white colour and easily pops off to reveal a sturdy nozzle of the same colour. On the back of the bottle there are ingredients, directions, and warnings. To dispense the mousse you shake the bottle well, point downwards onto your hand, and then push nozzle firmly to release a ball of mousse. My hair is of a medium-long length and I find that I need one/two golf ball sized amount, in order for it to work effectively. When I first bought the product I found it best to experiment with how much I needed for different effects, but the mousse does expand rather a lot, so don't underestimate how much you've got on your hand!! The mousse itself is of a very thick consistency, and is coloured white. The mousse has a smell that is a little bit fruity, but is still natural at the same time. I have used the product on both wet and dry hair and I have come to the conclusion that it works better on dry hair, but this may be different on different types of hair. When applied on dry hair, the mousse leaves your hair looking a little wet, but it soon dries to leave you with a defined wave/curl. When applied on wet hair, you cannot see the effect until after your hair is dry, and even then it is not as effective as putting straight onto dry hair. The mousse leaves your hair looking natural, not sticky, 'crunchy' or greasy. I have also found that it stops my hair from looking frizzy either, which is a bonus! The mousse holds all day with the aid of a little bit of your preferred hairspray. Not only is the product simple to apply, but it also washes out easily. The only fault I can think of is that after application it can leave your hands sticky, so you may need to wash your hands afterwards. Aside from that, I am very pleased with the overall effects of the mousse; it does what it says on the tin for a bargain price! Which is why I have rated this product 5/5. My hair has a natural curl, though its not the curliest of curls there is. My favourite product to use in it is mousse as it helps create more even curls and keeps frizz at bay. Always on the lookout for new products I decided to give Boots Essential Styling Mousse for Curls a shot. In short, this isn't the best product for my hair and nor do I use it anymore. Though its not necessarily a bad product. As with other Mousse's in the Boots Essential range, it is £1 per 200ml which is very good value compared to larger brands. Each mousse comes in a different colour, the curls one is a nice, bright pink. The nozzle is very good and study despite the price of the product. The mousse spreads and scrunches through the hair well and I found that a couple of good sized blobs in my hand did the trick as it expands really well, a lot better than I would expect from a cheaper product. As I scrunched it into my wet hair it did feel soft. Though make sure you have something to wipe your hands on as they will be quite sticky. As my hair dried I noticed my curls were natural looking and not crispy like other mousses. It was also free from frizz. In this respect I cannot fault the product. The main issue was that my curls were not as bouncy and curly as I would expect from other mousses. They fell quite flat. The product also didn't last all day and less than half day. After that my hair became quite fluffy and frizzy than nicely defined curls. For this reason I have found better products to use on my hair. It may have good points such as its low price, nice smell, expands well and leaves natural curls that aren't too crispy. However, the dull and flat curls were not worth it. Its not a terrible product but not one for me to use. (would give it 2.5 stars, rounded up)
I am very on the fence with this product, it really does have its pro and cons! The packaging I must say its great, its bright and pink, what more could a style concious person want? it looks very nice and awesome on the dressing table. And I would be a fool to argue with the price, it is very cheap in comparison to its bigger competitors which charge ridiculous amounts of money. It definately does what it says ont he tin, this product will style your hair very well without a problem (very well infact) but I have found on several occasions being brunuette that the product leaves horrible white marks on my hair..it kind of looks like hardened bits of mouse maybe? not sure but when it hardens my hair to make it curly...and for what ever reason I tug at that curl I get these flakey bits all on my hair..and being so dark haired it is very noticeable... I suppose for my blonde haired sisters this would not be an issue!!
Being a girl, I love playing around with different hair styles sometimes, just to make a difference to my look, and sometimes I will get a can of mousse and give my hair a good scrunching. My hair is quite thick, so sometimes I can go through a whole can of mousse in one go, so I try not to spend too much on a can, as that way I feel I have not spent out a fortune for one days worth of a hair style. Boots styling mousse costs me less than £1.50 and I actually only use about half a can at a time, so not only is it cheaper than most brands, it works better too. I can get the same amount of crunch and style from half a can of this mousse then I can using a full can of a leading, more expensive brand. This mousse does not make my hair sticky or dry, nor does it leave my hair looking dull and heavy. It helps me to make a natural looking, wavy style with extra bounce, that lasts all day. It smells nice too, unlike some mousses you can get that smell like a chemical wash! It easy to wash out too, so when you get bored and need to wash it out, you know this will be easy and you won't be scrubbing for ages to get the product out of your hair. This comes in a pink can, and sometimes a purple one, depending on which Boots store you buy it in, and you can also buy it online at www.boots.com. I recommend this mousse to anyone with hair!
I don't rememebr why i bought this product one day because i wouldn't usually trust products that are so cheap, but this was definitely worth thw chance I think i was probably quite skint one day and bought this product because it was 99p. I was pleasantly surprised that it worked really well with my hair. I have mousse to give my hair volume when i wear it straight and use this mousse when i want to scrunch my to make it curly. The curls sit very well and the mousse works perfectly in my hair. I love it. I can't believe it was only 99p! My biggest concern with the product though is that i have had a few cans where the mousse stops coming out the can. I think it gets a bit clogged up at the top of the can. It is quite annoying but it hasn't stopped me buying it. Especially as it is so cheap!
I didn't have a lot of spare cash last month (between Christmas and the long January pay gap) but I was in need of some moose as I have hair which is incredibly hard to manage. Boots essentail range are the most reasonably priced products available in my view. I had used their hairspray once or twice when I needed a bargain and thought I'd try the moose. The cans are £1.00 and I was wondering if I would need twice as much as normal but I was pleasantly surprised when I used this the first time. The mousse worked well, holding my hair in place nicely without the need for masses of mousse. It did not leave that funny sticky feeling on my hair nor did it agrevate the slight skin condition I have on my hands which most do. The only issue I have found is that the top comes a little loose at times which is disappointing and I have ended up with mousse on the inside of the drawer but for £1.00 I can live with this. I honestly struggle to find a difference between this and other brands so I have decided to switch to this permanently. I think value for money is excellent and I don't see how I'll benefit from spending twice as much and then some!!
Boots have won me over with this product..! Firstly, bright pink packaging, what more can a girl ask for! After having only just got used to a product which I believe was discontinued, I thought that I would try this and it is the product that I now buy in bulk as I have very curly hair and this product can control it and make it look good too. I like the product as it's not too heavy, or sticky, and although looks wet to begin with, does dry and keep my hair manageable. At £1.00, I believe that the product is good value as I don't have the money to spend silly amounts on products that will be washed out at the end of the day. Added to this, we cannot forget, is that by buying this product, you can earn 4 points with a Boots Advantage carrd, perfect! As I have become loyal to this mousse, I have now started using other Boots Essential products.
I bought this hair mousse a while ago when I was looking for some new products to try in Boots. It costs £1 a bottle which seemed like a real bargain to me, even more so because it was also on offer - 2 for £1.50 across the full range of essentials mousses. The mousse is available exclusively in Boots, and each section in the 'essentials' range is coloured differently - for example all the curl styling products are pink, and all the volumising products are lime green which makes it very easy to pick out the product you want. The mousse bottle is bright pink and has 'essentials' written on it. I was very impressed with the quality of the nozzle on the mousse, I had expected a fairly flimsy nozzle which broke easily, instead the nozzle was solid and sturdy, I could tell it wouldn't break very easily at all. I thought this was excellent for a product which is one of more basic and cheaper products on the market. The mousse itself is white in colour and has a pleasant, but subtle fruity smell. When you squeeze some out of the bottle it does expand a lot, so you have to be careful to don't end up with too much - I have shoulder length hair and find that a golf ball sized amount of mousse is plenty. I scrunch the mousse thoroughly through my hair and usually dry it with a hairdryer, using the diffuser attachment. I'm usually pretty pleased with the results, it's never left my curls 'crispy,' they look natural and have plenty of volume. The problem I've found is that the mousse by itself works fine if you're just doing your hair for an evening but if you want the look to last all day you do need to add a fair amount of hairspray to make sure that your curls look springy rather than limp and jaded at the end of the day. I have to say that for £1 I wasn't expecting miracles and this mousse wasn't a disappointment at all, even when you factor in the cost of a bottle of hairspray it's still cheaper than buying a bottle of hair mousse from many other brands so I'd certainly recommend it, but I should say that my hair is naturally curly and I've no idea how effective this product will be if your trying to create curls in straight hair. Four stars from me as the hold doesn't last all day, but definitely a great value product!
