I had never used a styling mousse before this product, i have a fair amount of hair so using this product required lots of experimentation. The bottle itself is cheap, around £3 or in many high street store you can get 2 VO5 products for £5 so £2.50 each. The bottles design has changed a few times but the basis is the same, a metal blue bottle with a transparent blue cap. There is a 'squirty' button press that when upright releases the white foam. with this i believe you just apply it to your hair from root to tip, this quickly dries and does its thing.
The biggest claim is the mega hold. For me this doesn't really hold a thing, i appreciate i have lots of hair to hold so i just use a bit more, but with the direction they gave the product doesn't really hold. Other claims seem to be truthful, the product is rather weather resistant, not so much wind and the hold aspect isn't there. The product does give my hair volume and style with a nice level of shine throughout the day. It does prevent environmental damage and does reduce the frizz in the hair.
To conclude the product works well but doesn't particularly work where desired. Anyone who this does work well for who would kindly drop a comment as to how they managed the mega hold aspect would be appreciated as i know this product does work just not for me. For this reason i must give in a 4 star rating, most claims are true and work well, the design of the bottle is functional and the product is cheap enough to have a go yourself.
I don't really wear too much product in my hair, a little bit of hairspray sometimes if I have an updo but generally I like it to look quite natural. One product however that really works for my hair is mousse And this one from VO5 is one of the best that I have tried.
V05 say that you can,"Style With Confidence with this mousse for vitally alive hair." V05 Mega Hold Mousse is a new formula, Weather Resistant Mousse with Climate Control Technology and provides a shield against humidity for 24hrs, to help prevent your hair from frizzing to give you ultimate control , for the most demanding styles.
I have quite curly hair so I tend to straighten it with my GHD's. After I have done this I like to add a little body to my hair with mousse. I also like to be able to smooth the odd stray strands down too and mousse is perfect for doing that.
This mousse is really easy to use. The fun part is when you squirt a little bit out onto your palm and watch it foam up into a big ball of foam. I then pad it so it's on both of my hands and just work it gently through my hands. The mousse is a bit sticky on my hands but what I love about it is that once its on my hair it's not sticky at all and just makes my hair nice and bouncy but smoothed down and held well. What you do need to be careful of is if you apply too much in any one spot it will make your hair a little wet at first and could cause it to curl if you have curly hair so I try to only put a little bit in my hands at any one time.
I think this mousse offers good protection from the weather. I have been using it over the summer with this hot and sticky weather we've been having and my hair seems to keep nice and shiny and doesn't frizz too much.
A bottle costs £2.99 and in my opinion is a good mousse.
Firstly, a bit of context. My hair is absolutely huge - long, curly, messy. It takes a near genius product to give it some hold and it's often difficult to find a mousse that does the job. I've tried higher end brands, cheap brands and a lot of the shades of grey in between. I picked v05's mega hold mousse up in Boots for around £2.89, a reasonable price for hair care these days.
On first impressions, it smells delicious. It doesn't have that clinical mousse smell typical of such products but has an enjoyable fruity scent that sticks to your locks for a while. I've actually received compliments on it, so that's always a bonus.
The actual texture of the mousse is soft, springy and nice and thick. It swells to a decent size so you don't need to use a huge amount and it runs through the hair nicely, going clear as you would expect. So far, so good. As far as manipulation is concerned, it holds the hair well and did a good job of evening out and separating my curls and stayed pretty well throughout the day. Overall, a decent product which I would most probably buy again.
The product boasts five benefits: climate control to prevent frizz, all day hold and volume, maximum control, shine and a uv filter to prevent damage from the environment. For me, all five boxes are ticked. I'd say that personally, my hair has felt healthy and hasn't looked caked in product when used.
.Almost every time I wash my hair I blow dry it and use a styling product. I just find if I do not use a styling mousse or gel my hair does not have the body that I like and I do not like the way it looks. The way my hair looks is so important to me because I have always taken great care in the way it looks. My hair is not exactly fly away and it is quite thick but if I do not use a product on it to style it, it tends to fall a little flat on my head and I do not feel comfortable at all. I buy this mousse on a regular basics because it is one that I like quite a lot for my hair.
It comes in a tall, slimline can, it has a press down nozzle and a pull off transparent plastic top. The can is easy to hold in the hand and the nozzle is easy to press to release the mousse from the can. The can is a royal blue colour with the name clearly on the front. It can be easily spotted from the shelves in the supermarkets or shop. It cost around £2.80 for a 200ml can. I think this is a good price because this is a very well known brand. It had been around for quite some time and is a reliable brand in my opinion.
It is a white mousse, the texture is really smooth and very soft, it has a really nice fragrance and it smells of a really nice perfume. The smell is not too overpowering but it is extremely pleasant. All that is needed to apply this to the hair is to wash the hair first in the usual way and towel dry, then to shake the can first, then press the nozzle to release a golf ball sized amount onto the palm of the hands. The mousse can then be evenly applied through the hair from the root to the ends of the hair, using a comb or brush through the hair and then to style in the usual way.
I have short hair at the moment and I find that just 2 golf balls amount is enough to give my hair the volume that it needs. This holds my hair really well and gives it a lot of volume. I find my hair does stay in place and in the style I have created and it lasts for the whole day. It does not leave my hair in a bad condition at all. I find it is a gentle product and it does not dry out my hair. Once my hair is dry, I find it does feel nice and soft but with a good root lift. What I really like about this one is that it does not feel sticky on the hair once it has dried. It does not feel at all sticky in the hands while applying it to the hair. My hair does not have any hard areas and any mousse attached to the hair at all.
I also find this one does wash out very well indeed. It does not feel all hard while washing it, it also does not need any extra washes to remove the mousse from my hair. After it has been washed from my hair I find my hair in a very good condition and my hair does not feel all rough as I have found some other products to be on my hair. This one is just perfect for my hair. There is nothing worse than having a product that is difficult to wash out of the hair.
This is a mega hold mousse so it gives maximum volume, it is ideal for shorter hair because it gives a really good root lift. I often use Velcro rollers in my hair if I have washed my hair in the morning and then going out in the afternoon and want a little extra body for my hair. This mousse still has the hold I like by the afternoon but I just sometimes prefer to place my rollers in my hair for an extra lift for going out. This mousse on my hair and the rollers work really well together but the rollers are not necessary, they are just my preference sometimes to give a little curl to my hair.
My hair does not look dull after using it, the hair looks nice and smooth too and with my conditioner the hair feels nice and soft but not fly away. I really do recommend this mousse for anyone who needs a little more volume for the hair or just a little root lift to help style the hair into a nice style. I have also used hair tongs and straighteners too and my hair has felt perfectly fine after using them both.
The can is recyclable and must not be left in direct sunlight for obvious reasons and for safety as well all know is common sense. The can is also a good size to place in an overnight wash bag and it does not take a lot of room because it is slimline and it does not weight a lot, it is quite lightweight.
I think for the price this one is an excellent mousse, it is extremely good quality and fabulous value for money. A little goes a very long way and the can lasts for quite some time, with a daily use the can easily can last a good 5 or 6 weeks. I will continue to buy it in the future because it gives me all the volume and root lift for my hair that I expect from a hair mousse product.
Available in supermarkets, good chemists and most beauty shops on the market.
Also on Ciao under my username Pinky50.
I give this one 5 stars.
Thank you for reading my review and I hope it has been of some help.
I rarely used mousse on my hair when it was long but after having it all cut short recently I've been using it more and more as it's prone to be a bit fly-away!
I used to use Fructis Mousse and although it did the job it left my hair feeling quite stiff and was noticeable there was product in it. What I was after was a mousse that would stop my hair spiralling out of control but maintaining a natural hold.
VO5 have been doing a lot of advertising lately but I'd never tried their products before. I'd just run out of the Fructis mousse so when I was in Wilkinson I chose this VO5 one to see if would suit me any better. I was fairly reasonable price of £1.95 for a 200ml can, one of the cheaper 'brand' ones on the shelf.
The can is a striking metallic electric blue but as with all mousses it seems, is a very tall container. I'm sure there's some science behind this and one of you will tell me why mousee is in such tall cans but it bothers me as they do not fit on my toiletries shelf!! Top marks for the look of the product though, would look very classy on the shelf in my bedroom, if indeed it fitted.
The blurb on the can is a follows -
"VO5 delivers high performance, salon tested styling products that won't let you down, and gives you the power to create, control and finish any style you want! VO5...for vitally alive hair!"
It claims to -
Give maximum Volume
Give long lasting ultimate hold
Be ideal for shorter styles
Help protect against styling and enviromental damage.
I always thing it's funny when products put on their packaging that they will 'help' to do something, that 'help' seems to be put it as a disclaimer that they will not solve your problems completely, if at all!
This mousse I bought is called 'Mega Hold.' VO5 products are catergorised in a 3 point system to show how much hold they provide. This one was 3 points, for maximum firmness.
I though maybe for claiming to be so strong that this mousse would give me the same problems as the Fructis one, and that my hair would feel stiff and straw like. This is not the case with this product I'm pleased to say. It calmed and de'frizzed my hair very well. Most mornings, I'm rushed for time and I usually just apply a handful through wet hair I just give a rough whizz through with the hairdryer and it dries smoothly as is very managable. Without it, it dries into little corkscrews!
I also use it when wet before going out and put a little on damp hair before I blow dry it proerly and style it as it helps keep the hair smooth and the style holds well.
It doesn't have a fragrance and is non sticky. A little of this goes a long way and it's a very thick fluffy mouse when it comes out the can.
Overall, I thinks this is a great mousse and saves me lots of time getting my hair sorted in the mornings. This will be the one I use from now on!
