      Not a favourite - sorry

I've used a few hair care products in the Alberto Balsam range and to be honest, they have been a bit hitty-missy. I bought this mandarin shampoo as it was only 99p and I love anything that smells fresh and fruity on my hair. The first time I used this I noticed that it didn't lather up on my hair as well as I had been expecting it to. It rinsed out well but I had to use quite a lot of shampoo in order to achieve the amount of lather I normally would. The smell is perhaps the nicest thing I could mention about this shampoo

      Advantages

      Disadvantages

Cleans well, lathers well. Easy to rinse.

I have bought a few different fragrances from this range of shampoo and found they really nice ones. I do like a fruity shampoo so thought I would give this fragrance a go since it was really cheap to buy. I thought I would like it anyway because the other scents hadn't been a disappointment.

The shampoo comes in a tall, slim line transparent plastic bottle which has a flip back lid. The name clearly on the front, so can be easily spotted on a shelf. The liquid is a pale yellow colour and it has a fairly rich consistency and doesn't drip from the bottle. It has a soft and smooth texture to it, it flows well from the bottle onto the hands.

This shampoo has a really nice fruity fragrance and smells like a bowl of fresh Mandarins, it is quite a strong mandarin scent, very orangey and quite sweet. Does smell nice and refreshing. I did imagine the smell would be quite strong because the other fragrances I had bought have been strong scents, so I did imagine this one would be strong too, which it is and Alberto Balsam haven't disappointed me with this one.

You don't need a lot of the shampoo to create a good lather, I have quite long hair at the moment and it is quite thick and I just use around a 50p sized amount and this amount is well enough to create lather and foam. If you have short hair, using less would be fine because it does lather up really well and using too much would be a waste of the shampoo.

It cleans my hair really well, it removes the dirt really well and I find just one wash is well enough because I do tend to wash my hair most days and I find this shampoo is a gentle one. I can detect the scent on my hair while I am washing it, can even detect the scent in my bathroom a good while after using this shampoo. It has staying power and a nice pleasant aroma in the air etc.

It is very easy to rinse from the hair in no time at all, I find I do need to use a hair conditioner on my hair because my hair feels too dry and not well nourished if I don't use one. I have used this shampoo and not used a conditioner and found my hair feels too dry and because my hair is quite long I find my hair is tangled when I don't use a conditioner. But my hubby has short hair and this shampoo has been a good one for him to use and his short hair hasn't felt tangled and he can easily comb it with no problems at all but for my long hair I do need to use a conditioner. I have washed my grandchildren's hair with it just a couple of times to see how it works for washing a child's hair, it has left their hair feeling soft and smooth and quite shining and also easy to brush after towel drying. Their hair did look glossy and shiny too, so I would say this shampoo is good enough to buy as a family shampoo.

It contains Mandarin and Papaya extract which claim to help strengthen the hair and give it shine, I haven't found my hair isn't any stronger and it doesn't look any glossier than normal because I do think my conditioners do this work on the whole. It also contains Vitamin B5.

It is a shampoo for normal to dry hair, I have dry hair and it is a good enough shampoo for washing my kind of hair. Although my hair is long, I do have it trimmed regularly to help keep it in a good condition and to remove any split ends. This shampoo has left my hair in a good condition and hasn't left my hair feeling too heavy or lanky.

It is really cheap to buy and I paid just a £1 for a 400ml bottle some time ago but I have spotted it in Asda for 4 bottles for just £3, so I think it is well worth the price. It is excellent value for money and of a super quality. Simply cannot go wrong for the price.

I highly do recommend this shampoo, it is a nice scent, washes well and a gentle shampoo. I will buy it again in the future because it gives me all the results I expect from this brand of shampoo.

      I give it 5 stars.

      Advantages

      Disadvantages

Another good product from Alberto Balsam.

Alberto Balsam make an attractively priced and effective range of shampoos and conditioners and I am currently tyring out their range which mainly has a fruity theme. One of their selling points is that their products contain ingredients that you can find in more costly brands but for a better price which is always appealing as you can definitely spend a lot of money for a top end product.

A little while ago I reviewed a pleasant mandarin and papaya conditioner in the Alberto Balsam range so it is only fair that I now review the equally nice matching shampoo in this good value hair care range.

Competitively priced at 1,25pence for 400ml the shampoo is designed for normal to dry hair and contains, as the name suggests extracts of mandarin and papaya. It promise to gently cleanse, restore shine and strengthens with pro-vitamin B5. As I have wiry, dry hair this is just right for me and I do like that their mantra is "Hair smells as good as it feels!" as the mandarin/orange scent which reminds me of freshly made jellies, is one that I like a lot!

      Packaging

Like the rest of the Alberto Balsam range which I have used, the bottle is of a simple, frosted plastic, tubular design through which you can see the clear orange coloured shampoo. It is topped by a black flip up top which closes securely to avoid spilling. The design on the bottle is simple too with a photo of juicy ripe oranges on the front which sits nicely with the black, silver and orange of the rest of the label. On the reverse are the ingredients, and a little information about how this limited collection was so popular that now it is part of their standard range. Directions for use also appear on the reverse, basically, wet your hair apply shampoo, have a good lather and rinse. Try to avoid getting it in your eyes.

One other point that I like about this packaging is that once empty, the hole in the top off the lid is just wide enough so that after cleaning thoroughly you can reuse the bottle for home made potions and lotions as long as you are careful about pouring it in. The labels also peel off easily so that you can add your own.

      Meet the Mandarin.

After wetting my hair I pour a good amount of the clear orange shampoo into the palm of my hand. It is a fairly runny gel in consistency and the lovely citrus scent is soon wafting around. The shampoo lathers up well and after a thorough wash it also rinses out easily leaving me with clean scented hair to which I then apply the matching conditioner. I find that I use a normal amount of this shampoo compared to other brands.

      My opinion.

It's another good shampoo from the Alberto Balsam range. It cleans my hair well and leaves it fairly soft considering how tough it is.The mandarin and papaya provides a pleasant scent which I enjoy although it does fade away faster than I would like. It is not going to change my life or radically change my tough wiry hair but I shall continue to but this range which I think is suitable for the whole family and is a good value range.

5 stars from me for a good value shampoo.

The bottle is recyclable and the shampoo has a 12 month life after opening. It is readily available in supermarket and is produced by Unilever.

      Advantages

      Disadvantages

An ok shampoo but not for me as it was not strong enough for my daughters long hair

      =Alberto Balsam Mandarin Shampoo=

I try to change the brands of shampoo and conditioner used, as I like to give my hair a change of product.

      =Alberto Balsam=
I didn't buy this, my daughter won it on a Tombola at a local school fayre, so we decided to give it at go.

      =Price and availability=
Alberto Balsam is available from most retailers and can be purchased for anything from £1 upwards. This was a 400ml bottle.

      =The Bottle=
The bottle is a plastic bottle, see through, with a black plastic lid that you flip up and there is a small hole in the centre, so when you squeeze the bottle the shampoo comes out.

      =The Shampoo=
The shampoo contains mandarin and papaya extract, for me the overall smell feels like a posh orange feel, but the papaya doesn't smell as a separate extract.
The shampoo states that it gently cleanses, restores the shine and vitality, whilst strengthen with Vitamin B5

      =The Feel=
The shampoo is not thick, but not to runny either, so you get a good control over the amount being dispensed, as soon as you open the bottle, the smell is sweet and nice, it reminds me of a tropical milkshake. On my hair it lathered easily, and as I was lathering up, I noticed the smell became more apparent,

The shampoo rinsed out easily, and the same when I used it on my daughters hair, she has longer hair than me, and whilst lathering hers (it takes longer) I found the sweet smell that I had experienced earlier becoming less sweet and more sickly sweet feel. It wasn't just my daughters hair or my hands that I could smell the shampoo on it was over taking the bathroom. At this point I was glad it was not mint based - otherwise it would be hello toilet...

      =Conditioner=
I had to use a conditioner with my daughters hair, as the shampoo just did not seem strong enough to control her hair, even after shampooing it twice.

      =Overall=
I was impressed with the price of the shampoo as it was £1 for a 400ml bottle, and on my hair I could manage the sweet smell, but on my daughters the time taken the smell became a bit over powering, and I felt I used more shampoo than with other brands,

      =Would I buy again=
For me, sorry, I just felt it wasn't strong enough and over powering with the smell, but if you don't try you don't know, and it was one of the better tombola prizes.

      Advantages

      Disadvantages

      smells great and works well

When it comes to shampoos I usually pick up whatever is on the £1 shelve in our local chemist. I think it is good for your hair to have a change every so often. When I was looking for a new shampoo because mine had ran out I saw the Alberto Balsam mandarin shampoo and thought I would give it a try.

The shampoo came in a 250ml plastic bottle with a fairly plain label on the front which tells you what the product is and has the company logo on it. The design of the packaging is fairly simple but because the bottle is slightly see through (which is great for knowing how much is left) the colour of the shampoo colours the bottle and makes the packaging very bright and eye catching. It also had a label on the back containing the relevant information such as directions of use and ingredients.

The product itself is a great consistency, not too thick but not too runny. It is bright orange in colour and it smells amazing. The smell was one of the reasons that I picked this shampoo; the rich, refreshing smell of mandarins smells good enough to eat!

When using the product I squeezed a reasonable amount into my hand and rubbed it into my hair. I soon realised that I didn't need to use half as much as I had used. The shampoo lathers up really well without having to use much of it. After I rinsed it out of my hair and dried my hair off I could smell that beautiful smell of mandarins. The smell lasted all day. Unlike some shampoos I have used in the past this one left my hair feeling smooth and looking shiny without leaving any sticky residues on my hair.

Overall I loved this shampoo and paired with the conditioner it made my hair feel great and smell fresh all day. I would recommend this shampoo to anyone.

      Advantages

      Disadvantages

A lovely scented shampoo from Alberto Balsam, albeit a little bit weak.

Alberto Balsam shampoos and conditioners are something that appear in my bathroom on quite a regular basis. When I have found that I am suffering from build up from a different shampoo or conditioner, usually something more expensive, I revert back to using these for one or two bottles to try and sort my hair out before inevitably going back t something more expensive again. Its a bit of a vicious circle really, but with these costing just £1 per bottle I am able to save a little money on my shopping bill when I buy these Alberto Balsam products.

When I was browsing the shelves in Tesco recently I spotted lots of different Alberto Balsam products but this one, mandarin and papaya shampoo, was the one that stood out to me as it has a nice spring colour to it. A light orange /peach colour and when I had a quick smell I really liked the light orange scent that I could detect.

This shampoo is for normal/dry hair and this is probably the category that I am in most of the time, providing I was my hair every 1-2 days. The bottle contains 400ml which is an ample amount to last my husband and I about a month or so. Not bad for £1!

This shampoo contains mandarin and papaya extract, when smelling this or using it on my hair I can notice the mandarin more than the papaya but there is a tropical fruit type smell to this, similar to that which comes from a tropical juice drink. This is a really nice smell and that is definitely the reason I chose this one, well that and the nice light colour of the shampoo. The shampoo bottle states that this shampoo gently cleanses, restores shine & vitality and strengthens with pro-vitamin B5.

When it comes to actually using this shampoo it is simple to use for me. The bottle has a black plastic flip top lid that is simple to open, even with wet fingers if I am in the shower, and there is a reasonable sized hole to allow enough shampoo out without being wasteful. The shampoo is not too thick so it doesn't matter if I don't store the bottle upside down. The scent is nice and fragrant, without being overpowering, and this is quite a nice scent for rubbing in to my hair whether bathing or showering. When I start rubbing this through my hair and on my scalp I find that this lathers up really well. I find that the smell becomes more prominent once this is being rubbed all around my hair and particularly when I am in the shower I find that this fills up the bathroom with its wonderful orange scent that is sweet and delicious without being heady or too strong.

When it comes to rinsing this off it rinses with ease and my hair felt squeaky clean after using this shampoo. The smell is refreshing and relaxing and there is nothing that I dislike about it at all. The scent doesn't really hang around on my hair after I rinse it and dry it but my hair feels great, which happened from the first use, so I can overlook this, plus I want my perfume to be the most noticeable scent about me really.

A little really goes a long way with this shampoo and when I combine it with the conditioner I get fantastic results for my hair. My hair looks healthy and shiny after using this and the addition of the conditioner means that my hair is simple to brush afterwards too. My hair feels clean all the way through, which doesn't always happen with some products as I have very long thick hair. My hair looks and smells clean although the scent of this shampoo and the matching conditioner doesn't linger.

I would say that overall this shampoo is worthy of 4/5. The price is low, at just £1 for 400ml, and a little goes a long way because this lathers up so well. The smell is lovely and enjoyable when I am in the shower but I would probably prefer it to be at least a little more noticeable. I am impressed with how shiny and healthy my hair is though and that is why I am rating this so high.

        Advantages

        Disadvantages

A great value shampoo for everyday use

I recently ran out of my usual shampoo and as I am currently on a tight budget decided to try something a bit cheaper. I noticed the bottle on the shelf in Sainsbury's and decided to give it a try.

        The packaging.
The product comes in a clear plastic bottle (400ml) which is handy as you can easily see when the bottle is nearly empty. It has a black plastic lid which flips open and a gentle squeeze easily distributes the product into your hand. The product name is clearly written on the front of the bottle with the fragrance underneath it. On the back of the bottle it gives you the directions, it also says that they are adding this particular scent to their permanent range as it was initially a limited addition fragrance.

        The product.
The product is orange in colour and has a fairly thick consistency to it which makes it non messy to distribute. It lathers up really nice and easy and it smells gorgeous too! It is so nice and fruity, not too strong but strong enough to leave a hint of mandarin on my hair once it has been dried. The product claims to restore shine and vitality, strengthen with pro vitamin B5 and gently cleanse.
The product is easily available from supermarkets, online and beauty stores with prices at around £1. I got mine from Sainsbury's for £1. Sainsbury's website says they currently have an offer on at 4 bottles for the price of 3, it doesn't say online exclusive so should be in store also. The alberto balsam shampoo range offers a variety of fragrances including juicy green apple, raspberry, strawberry and coconut along with many others.

        My verdict.
I am definitely impressed with this shampoo and have yet to try the conditioner. It is really good value
for money and I will be definitely be purchasing it again and trying others from the same range.

        Advantages

        Disadvantages

        Thanks for Reading :)

        ==THE DESIGN==

The shampoo comes in a transparent plastic bottle, the design is fairly simple and does not necessarily help advertise and persuade people to purchase the shampoo based on the design. I myself do not mind the design being some what boring, its what's inside that counts! The name 'Alberto Balsam Mandarin' is clearly printed on a black label located at the front of the Shampoo bottle, which is accompanied with pictures of half cut & whole oranges. The bottle has a black lid that has a flip open cap, which is used on most shampoo bottles.

        ==PRICE==

I purchased a 400ml bottle from my local Home Bargains store for £1, which is a good price for the amount of shampoo you get in a bottle.

        ==THE SHAMPOO==

The shampoo itself is nice a thick, which is great as it means it does not drip out of the hand when trying pour it out of the bottle. The shampoo liquid is a nice bright orangey colour, which unlike the packaging makes it look very appealing and more expensive.

Upon pouring the shampoo onto the hands, the most noticeable thing for me was the scent. The fragrance is a nice beautiful juicy orange smell that reminds me a little bit of a nice inviting sweet orange desert or orange flavoured sweets. The sweetness makes the shampoo smell very fruity and more natural.

When applying the shampoo into my hair I was very happy with the instant transformation of the shampoo liquid texture into a nice foamy lather. This is great, as it meant I did not need to use huge amounts of shampoo to apply onto my long hair, instead just a small amount managed to do the job and lather up to cover the hair very well. The combination of the great fruity sweet aroma and the great foamy texture made applying this shampoo quite pleasant. The other advantage of this shampoo is that I found it very easy to wash out, and not so time consuming like other shampoos that can make your hair still feel soapy even after lots of rinsing.

        ==THE END RESULT==

The good point about the end result is that it definitely cleaned my hair, making it look clean and fresh. However on the downside it made my hair feel slightly more dryer and frizzier than I am used to. It made it harder to untangle my hair, and took me a while to get my hair looking sleek and less frizzy and untangle the knots in my hair.

On the upside my hair still smelt nice and fresh after drying, just a shame that my hair felt dry and missing that element of softness that I love.

        ==CONCLUSION==

Overall I would say that I was not that happy with the end result, apart from the fragrance and the lathering of the shampoo, it really did not have many positive results on my hair. Therefore I would not recommend this shampoo, especially to those already prone to dry frizzy hair.

          Advantages

          Disadvantages

Great price and does a great job

I picked this 400ml bottle of shampoo up in my local Morrison supermarket as while ago when it was on offer 3 for £3. The shampoo comes in a tall plastic bottle, with a flip top lid that is easy to use, dispenses the product well and does not leak.

The shampoo is designed for normal to dry hair and is infused with mandarin and papaya that are supposed to provide your hair with nourishment, added shine and strength. In addition it is designed to restore the vitality of your hair.

The shampoo is an orange colour, and quite thin in consistency, but it cleanses well and leaves my hair feeling clean and refreshed, I find that although you do not need much the dispensing nozzle is quiet wide so a lot of shampoo will come out if you are not careful. Too much and you end up with loads of lather, though it does rinse out easily. The smell of the shampoo is very strong, I can only detect mandarin and I find this to be very pleasant, the scent lingers for ages and as I use it with the Alberto Balsam Mandarin Conditioner as well, my hair smell great for hours. My hair is very dry and after use I find it to be manageable and a bit shiner than usual.

          The ingredients are as follows:
Aqua (Water, Eau),Sodium Laureth Sulfate ,Sodium Chloride ,Cocamide MEA ,Cocamidopropyl Betaine ,Glycerin ,Parfum (Fragrance) ,Tetrasodium EDTA ,Limonene ,Polyquaternium-7 ,Linalool ,Citric Acid ,Hexyl Cinnamal ,Polyquaternium-39 ,Panthenol ,Propylene Glycol ,Citrus Nobilis (Mandarin Orange) Fruit Extract ,Methylchloroisothiazolinone ,Carica Papaya (Papaya) Fruit Extract ,CI 15985 (Yellow 6) ,Methylisothiazolinone ,CI 19140 (Yellow 5) ,Benzophenone-4 ,Triethanolamine ,Hexylene Glycol
Overall I would recommend this to others who like fruity smelling shampoo, it cleans well, smells great, adds shine and is very well priced.

          Advantages

          Disadvantages

          Cracking shampoo

I'd never tried any shampoos from the Alberto Balsam range before, but when I was looking for a cheap shampoo to use with the several bottles of half-used conditioner I seem to have acquired, I spotted this in Morrisons costing a mere £1. I did quite well just coming away with the one bottle, as they were running a promotion at the time where you could buy 4 bottles for £3.

I chose this particular one from the range because it was labelled as being suitable for hair that is normal to dry. Mine is dry at the ends, but can get greasy at the roots, so I find "normal to dry" is the best kind of shampoo for my hair type. I am also quite keen on fruity scents, so the fact it was advertised as mandarin fragranced did help my decision somewhat.

From the label on the bottle, I can see that this has clearly been a limited edition at some point, but it must have been proven popular enough to make it into Alberto Balsam's current range. I noticed the "Limited Edition" label first, but then spotted the "Here to Stay" label, meaning that if it was any good, I would be able to get hold of it again. I hate it when I fall in love with a product and it gets taken off the shelf!

The shampoo claims to contain mandarin and papaya extract, to strengthen hair and add a deep shine. It strengthens with pro vitamin B5, and I like their advertising slogan where they say it's "at a price which means you can afford to look glamorous every day". This is quite apt because it's rare to pick up a decent shampoo in the lower price range such as this one.

The bottle is transparent apart from the label wrapped round the middle, and the product inside is orange in colour, to match the picture of mandarins on the label. I like the packaging for this shampoo, with the bottle being round in shape as it makes it easy to grab hold of in the shower. The lid is a flip top lid, and although this means I'll have to store the bottle upside down when I get near the bottom, at least it won't leak orange shampoo all over my shower!

In use, the shampoo smells absolutely gorgeous, and very definitely orange based. It fills the bathroom, and is very uplifting, however I used this with another brand of conditioner and notice that neither smell lingered on my hair. I tend to find that once I've used my heat protection spray, my hair doesn't really smell of anything I've washed it with, but instead has the "clean" smell of my spray instead. This isn't an issue with me to be honest, because as long as my hair smells clean and not of last night's tea, I'm happy.

The shampoo creates an amazing lather, even from using a very small amount. This is almost a hindrance for me, because it seems to take forever to rinse all the suds out! However, it does put my mind at ease that my hair is getting a really thorough cleansing, and it does feel squeaky clean once all the suds are washed out.

As for the results, this shampoo not only does an excellent job of cleaning hair and getting rid of any lingering smells, but it does seem to be good for my hair type as my hair is dry and in desperate need of a trim, so it's been lacking a bit of life lately. This shampoo seems to give it a bit of shine, although some of that could be attributable to my conditioner (from another brand), but either way I'm happy with the finished result.

I would definitely use this one again, especially if it's on an offer such as the "4 for £3". This is about as good value as shampoo gets these days.

            Advantages

            Disadvantages

4 out of five stars from me.

I'm a bit of a cheapskate and I don't like paying over the odds for simple things!! A lot of my friends will happily fork out £5-10 for a bottle of shampoo or conditioner, but I just buy whatever is the cheapest, occasionally treating myself to a more luxurious shampoo/conditioner when it's on offer.

One of my favourite brands of cheapo hair care products is Alberto balsam. These shampoos and conditioners are only a pound for a 400ml bottle, which I think is amazing value!! Tesco have this range on offer a lot too, and they currently have them on offer at £1.40 for two bottles.

I have tried a lot of the different shampoos and conditioners in this range with one of my favourites being the mandarin shampoo, it just smells amazing!! The shampoo comes in a see through bottle which is tall and quite slender. The orange liquid is bright and colourful and I like the see through design as if like me you have heaps of these shampoos you can tell which one is which by the colour!

The bottle is simply designed and not the prettiest but for a pound who cares?! The flip lid is handy because the shampoo is very runny so this stops it all pouring out at once and going to waste. The smell is nice and strong so in a morning it really wakes me up, it smells just like fresh mandarins. I admit there is a bit of an artificial hint to it, but for the most part it smells natural. I had assumed that the smell would linger in my hair as its strong, but it doesn't. It is undetectable literally half an hour after I've used it.

The shampoo like I said is very runny and thin, so I tend to need a large blob or two to cover my shoulder length hair. It doesn't lather up as easily as a more expensive shampoo would, but it leaves my hair feeling fresh and clean. It doesn't have any effect on how my hair actually feels though - it never feels softer, silkier or better cared for after I have used this, so it really is just a cheap and cheerful product.

I'd recommend it as it leaves my hair clean but it isn't luxurious at all and it's very thin and runny. I'm going to give it 4 out of 5 stars.

              Advantages

              Disadvantages

              A must try!

I bought this mandarin shampoo from Sainsbury's recently, along with the matching conditioner. They were on offer for £1 each, or 4 for £3. I like to try new shampoos every now and then, and since it was such a good price, I thought I'd give it a go!

Firstly, the smell is absolutely delicious! I've never gone for a citrus smelling shampoo before, and I was pleasantly surprised. If anyone has ever used the Body Shop's mandarin shower gel, the smell of the shampoo (and the conditioner) is very similar. The lather is very good as well, and a little goes a long way. I have found this to be a problem with cheaper shampoos, and they normally end up being empty in a 3rd of the time compared to more expensive ones. The fresh mandarin smells lasts for a long time after you've washed it out, as well.

Once my hair is dried, it's left unbelievably soft and not dry in the slightest. By the end of the day my hair is in the same state as just after it had been washed. I don't have particularly greasy or dry hair and this shampoo keeps the balance perfectly.

I would completely recommend this shampoo to anyone who likes to give new brands a try. And if it doesn't really do your hair any favours (which I'm sure it won't), it's such a good price it won't be too much of a big deal!

              Advantages

              Disadvantages

A cheap and cheerful very basic shampoo.

I have titled this 'Fruity MOR Shampoo'because MOR to me means Middle of the Road and thats pretty much what this shampoo is. However, it is better than the accompanying conditioner from the same range (for which see the relevant review).

I bought 3 bottles of Alberto Balsam shampoo and conditoner on a 3 for 2 deal at my local Bodycare shop, they were priced at £1.25 each meaning the three bottles were £2.50 in total or 75p each - in other words a bit of a bargain. And every time this happens I swear I will learn from it - basically, in my experience, you get what you pay for when it comes to hair care products and accordingly to my mind these are cheap, cheerful and not especially good.

The shampoo comes in a standard round bottle and this mandarin scented one is orange in colour, it has a flip top lid which is easy to manage in terms of bottle design and my bottles were 250ml in size.

In terms of the scent of the product, it is a lovely, strong and fruity smell and the nice thing is that this does seem to stay in the hair after washing with it. I sometimes felt that I needed to wash twice with this because it just didnt leave my hair feeling clean (not as clean as I am used to it feeling after a lather and rinse) and weirdly it felt like it was leaving my hair very dry (not helped by the inept conditioner).

My hair always looked ok after using this but to me it never felt that great and therefore I will not be buying this again - cheap or not.

              Advantages

              Disadvantages

              Works great!

I have tried nearly all of the shampoos and conditioners in the Alberto Balsam range and love all of them. So when this one came out I didn't hesitate to try it as well. I bought it on offer from Morrison's when they were doing a 4 for £3 deal making each bottle 75p each. However, you can also buy this range of shampoos and conditioners from Asda, Sainsbury's, Savers, Bodycare and many other places.

The shampoo comes in a tall cloudy coloured bottle that contains 400mls of product so for the price you get a decent amount of shampoo! It has a black flip lid that reveals a small hole for the shampoo to be poured out of. The label is black with a nice appertising picture of Mandarins on it. The Mandarin shampoo is also designed for normal/dry hair. I have quite dry ends to my hair despite only straightening it once a week maximum, so this was another reason I decided to try the Mandarin shampoo from alberto balsam to put some life and softness back into my hair.

The Mandarin shampoo smells gorgeous! After using it just once, I found the Mandarin smell lasted in my hair. The smell is nice and strong, fresh and clean. With this shampoo I find I can't leave my hair for more than 2 days without washing it as it starts to feel greasy whereas with some of the more expensive shampoos I can normally get 3 days out of the product. Therefore this would be a small disadvantage of the product, but it definitely wouldn't put me off buying it as this isn't a big deal to me. The shampoo leaves my hair feeling soft and shiny, and has worked a treat on the dry ends I used to have. Used along with the conditioner, I'm sure it could do the same for everyone else.

The Mandarin scented shampoo and conditioner used to be limited edition, but now says on the bottle that is is here to stay which is great news. Overall, I love the smell of this product as well as the feel of it. It is a great price, and sold in loads of places so is easy to get hold of.

              Advantages

              Disadvantages

              mandarin madness

I'm currently using the Alberto Balsam Mandarin Shampoo and Conditioner. I'm not brand loyal when it comes to shampoos and conditioners, I'm happy to use whichever products happen to be on offer or seem to be the best value.

The Alberto Balsam range of shampoos and conditioners are available in most supermarkets, Boots, Superdrug, Poundland etc. And they normally retail at just £1 each. I bought mine from Sainsbury's where they are currently on a 4 for 3 offer. 4 for 3 is a bit of a weird number for me as I always use two bottles of conditioner to every one bottle of shampoo, and so a 3 for 2 is absolutely perfect, a 4 for 3 however leaves me with one spare bottle of either shampoo or conditioner. I ended up buying two bottles of the mandarin shampoo and two bottles of the mandarin conditioner and giving one of the bottles of shampoo to my mum.

So the Alberto Balsam Mandarin Shampoo comes in a 400ml bottle. The bottle states that it's a limited edition fragrance. The shampoo itself is quite a thick shampoo, and its a gorgeous vibrant bright orange colour. This limited edition shampoo is infused with mandarin and papaya extracts to strengthen your hair and add a deep shine. It states that it's suitable for normal to dry hair; my hair is probably normal and maybe just a little on the dry side so this seems perfect for me.

As with all shampoos the directions for use are; wet hair, use a good size dollop of shampoo, lather, then rinse thoroughly, have you also tried our limited edition mandarin conditioner? works a treat. I don't find that I need to use 'a good size dollop' of this shampoo, I find that just a small amount of this works adequately. I do always follow this with the matching mandarin conditioner, and I do use a HUGE dollop of the conditioner, hence the two bottles of conditioner to the one bottle of shampoo.

I find that this shampoo lathers up well on my hair in the shower, and that I don't need to use a lot of it to create a rich and foamy lather. It rinses out well and it leaves my hair feeling squeaky clean in the shower, before then following it with the matching conditioner. Once my hair is dry it definitely feels and looks very healthy and clean, and it is lovely and soft and shiny after using this along with the matching conditioner. I normally wash my hair around 3 times a week and this has stayed the same whilst using this shampoo, so it hasn't caused my hair to go greasy or to need washing any sooner. I also find my hair to be just as easy to style whilst using this shampoo.

This smells gorgeous, really fresh and fruity. I can definitely smell the mandarins in this shampoo, and I find that the mandarin fragrance lingers in my hair for the rest of the day as well. I'm not sure that I can smell the papaya in this at all, to me this just smells of the mandarins. The lingering mandarin fragrance isn't too overpowering in my hair, but it's just subtle enough to be noticeable if I've wafted my hair. I do always use this along with the matching conditioner, so I am layering the mandarin fragrance so to speak, it may not last quite as long if you are just using the shampoo.

Overall I'm more than happy with this for the low price. I think that like most shampoos it works best with the matching conditioner, and I'll more than happily buy this again. I'll also probably try other fragrances in the Alberto Balsam range of shampoos and conditioners too.
