This was my first Sat Nav and decided to go for the Sony at the time. I soon discovered shortly after buying that Sony haven't mastered the Sat Nav market as well as other brands.
Firstly you can only search using 5 postcode digits. You then have to search through several locations if your postcode doesn't appear which can be frustrating and time consuming.
I owned the Nav-U50 for 3 years before selling it and during that time Sony only released 1 map update, which is very poor compared with rivals who release at least 1 per year.
Battery life isn't the best and usually lasts under 4 hours with continual use.
On the plus side the unit has a nice female voice, which is soothing on the ears, and instructions are very clearly spoken. There are several pre-installed points of interest which came in handy on a few occasions.
If you are on the lookout for a good Sat Nav I wouldn't recommend this model, as there are much better ones available.
The nav-u is a must-have for anyone who ever wished for an easy drive to their destination. No more stress, no more getting lost, no more stopping to figure out maps and no more back seat drivers! Not only that, but as your guide on the go, the nav-u also knows the nearest petrol station, car-park or even a restaurant on the way.
