      Advantages

      Disadvantages

      Fine as extra seating

We moved house at the start of the summer months and the people we bought the house off kindly left us quite a lot of things as they were moving quite a distance and downsizing. One item that we were left in the garage were four of these Tesco plastic low back chairs(as well as a matching white table!). Now, these are not the kind of chairs that I would ever think of purchasing for my home, as they remind me of campsite furniture, and therefore cheap and cheerful, whereas we have a lovely wooden set with cushioned seats for when the weather is good and we can have a bbq! However, we would have been mad to have got rid of them as when you have people round for a bbq, additional seating is also a plus, no matter how plastic and cheap it looks. I'm not entirely sure how much our previous owners bought these chairs for, but I have seen them online on Tesco and I think they are definitely less than a fiver per chair, and to be honest, I wouldn't want to pay any more for them than that if I had to. As the title suggests these chairs are plastic and white, a combination that does ultimately make them look cheap and also with the colour, it tends to show up dirt, which is why I much prefer wooden garden furniture. On the plus side of course, these chairs are easily washed down, to get rid of spider webs, and dirt, as my husband had to do in the summer before they were used, as they had spend the winter in the garage. This furniture doesn't need treated like wood and so is low maintenance. I do like the fact that there are arms to these chairs, as it is lovely to relax and be able to put your elbows on the chair, rather than a backless and armless chair which is much less comfy. The back is well supported so you can sit back in the chair and feel relatively comfortable (as comfortable as plastic can be!). They aren't the most robust of chairs and they can be easily toppled with a push, so not really suitable for a child, however for an adult, they are fine, although obviously our wooden chair feel much sturdier. We had a couple of bbqs this summer as for a few weeks at the end of June, start of July, the weather was beautiful, so we made the most of it and invited family and close friends round. We were especially grateful for having the extra chairs as the weather was so lovely, we were able to sit outside for quite a while into the evening, rather than having to come in when it usually cools down. We did throw a blanket over a couple of these white seats to make them more comfortable and less plasticy for some of the older members of my husband's family and this seemed to make them better as well. All in all, they wouldn't be the type of garden furniture I would buy, but we were very grateful for the extra seats during the nice weather in the summer. If you are looking for cheap furniture for those few summer days we get, then this is fine. It isn't overly robust and does look plastic and cheap but it does the job of an outside seat that has low maintenance and can be stored away for another year.

      Advantages

      Disadvantages

Comfortable, easy to maintain, good value

I bought two of these chairs at the end of last summer as our table and chairs were on their last legs. They were a wooden set and required a lot of maintenance and needed putting away if it was raining heavily and varnishing every year so I was quite glad to buy some different ones. The set I had before this were also wooden so I thought it was time for a change. As it was the end of the season I picked these up from Tesco for £4.50 each which I thought was good value. We have now had these chairs for about a year and have used them a lot due to our lovely long summer. As we have been away on holiday quite a bit this year and have been busy doing some big gardening jobs I haven't got round to buying any more garden furniture or even a table so these two plastic chairs have been the extent of our gardening furniture this year. Our chairs are white but they also do them in a dark green colour. I was a bit sceptical buying white but although they are not brilliant white any more they do still look clean in good condition. A good thing about them being plastic is that you can wipe them over easily with a damp cloth or a quick spray with the hosepipe and they dry off in no time. Being white as well you can see if there has been anything spilt on them so you do tend to keep them cleaner than darker ones. The seat has a slight slope towards the back of the chair and there is a small hole where water can drain off easily if you leave them outside in the rain or when you wash them. The back is a smooth curved shape with sort of fan shape strips going down to the seat. The top of the back curves round to the arms all in one leaving quite large gaps at the sides. The arms are quite thin and curved so you can't balance anything on them. Although the chair is plastic I find them comfortable to sit on and like the way it curves round my back. As with all plastic chairs your legs can get a bit sweaty in the hot weather if you have bare legs but this is to be expected. I do have some seat pads from my other garden furniture which I sometimes use to sit on or for an extra back rest which makes the chair even more comfortable. The chairs are lightweight and are easy to move around but are sturdy enough not to be blown over in the wind. I did put them away for the winter but got them out again in spring as I am outside quite a lot pottering about, so they have really had a lot of use. The chairs are stackable so if you are storing them they won't take up too much space. I don't think they look particularly cheap and we have definitely had our wear out of them. I would buy them again as they are comfortable, easy to maintain, good value and most of all they don't need re-varnishing and I would consider buying the matching table to go with them.

      Advantages

      Disadvantages

A great chair that ticks every box

I purchased these chairs when we moved into our new house because for a short period of time we didn't have anything to sit on. These chairs are a real God send, offering real value at about 6 pounds per chair. The chairs are quite comfortable considering they are just moulded plastic and as you would expect from Tesco they are incredibly hard wearing as proved by the children, who make dens with them most weekends or randomly decide to throw them around the garden. The chairs are great if you need cheap extra seating and having extra family over, we have chairs that are very useable and also easy to clean. We use the chairs for the children to sit on whilst they paint outside as the chairs are very easy to clean and almost indestructible. When extra adults require seating we have even used a throw over for the chairs. The chairs are also easy to stack are quite light weight and storage is easy if you have a shed or under cover area. I would recommend these chairs to anyone who requires some cheap garden furniture as you really cannot go wrong for the price. These chairs are great for children's activities also as the price os so low if they were to break then replacing them is very easy. For our family these chairs offer great value for money, and our experience has shown that they are a very versatile chair. The chair ticks every box a definite must for any household with a garden or outside sitting area.

      Advantages

      Disadvantages

      4 stars

I bought these chairs 3 years ago from Tesco's to have in the garden. We still use them now and although they are most certainly not the best in terms of comfort they are very practical and we do use them regularly. The colour of the chairs when we bought them were a dark green but now, thanks to the sunshine they are more like a faded green, a light green which is perfectly acceptable really but makes them look a little grubby. They are made from plastic and the seat of the chair slopes slightly towards the back where there is a little hole. This means if it rains and they are outside then the rain won't collect like a puddle in it but will run down the slight slope and drip out the hole. If it rains heavily though it does pool around this hole. The entire chair is plastic. The back is rounded slightly so that it is a good shape for your back. I find, however, after a while that they begin to feel uncomfortable as they're quite hard so I tend to take a cushion out with me and put this on the back of the chair to give extra padding and that usually is much more comfortable for longer. The arms of the chair are also slightly rounded so you can't balance a drink or anything on them but they're at a good position for most people to rest their arms on. They are plastic and light weight which means moving them around the garden is simple so I tend to move them around to follow the sun/shade! They are also stackable too which makes them easier to store. The light weight nature of them means that if my grandchildren are around and trying to sit on them I keep a close eye as they could easily topple backwards on them. In my opinion these are good chairs because they're practical- wipe them clean and they're ready to be sat on time and time again. I am knocking off 1 star though because they are not the most comfortable chairs out there.

      Advantages

      Disadvantages

These chair won't break easily or break the bank.

I've been reading a lot about cheap but quality furniture goods from Tesco recently so we took a trip to the large local Tesco store to have a look at them. We only have a small garden space with a bit of lawn on it but in the warm weather it is nice to sit out in it as it is also a sun trap. Last year I sat on a mat on the floor but now that I am getting heavily pregnant I decided to invest in some garden chairs. I couldn't believe the price of these plastic garden chairs - only £3.60 a chair, so we picked up a few to try them out. The chairs are white in colour and a very basic design with a curved back. I don't like the curved back personally so I always use a few cushions with the chair which makes it much more comfortable. They also look a bit more stylish with cushions on them to hide the back and the basic seat of them. Because they are so cheap I don't mind my daughter colouring on them at all, although felt tip pen has so far washed off the chairs easily. I am surprised at how hard the plastic is and how durable it seems, for such a low price. When the rains finally came we left the chairs out by mistake and they got thoroughly drenched but still look completely fine, and they are easy to wipe down to sit on if the sun is not out to dry them. The chairs are also stackable and lightweight enough to lift and stack easily. We bought two to try them out but are planning to pick up a couple more. The only negative thing I will say about these chairs is the gaps in the back of them. There are two spaces either side of the back plastic and my daughter has fallen through them. Fair enough, these chairs are not aimed at little ones, but I would also prefer a complete back personally as I often have things on my lap and they do tend to fall through the holes when I move too abruptly. I can report that many a book has gone this way already, and it's a pain for me as bending at the moment to pick things up hurts my back. Again, this is not a huge fault with the chair but rather a personal niggle, so I am still going to give it 4 stars for durability and price. If you want garden chairs that won't break easily or break the bank, and you don't mind if they are a bit cheap looking, invest in these and I don't think you'll be disappointed.

        Advantages

        Disadvantages

A cheap chair that is good if you want to sit still

We paid £5.95 each for a set of four from Tesco Direct. We needed extra seating for a BBQ party and they have been in our garden ever since. Comfort: Not really a seat that I would like to sit in for a long time. The arms of the chair are two high and they are moulded to come off the back and the curve of the arm interferes with where you put your elbows. Quality of plastic: The plastic is quite thin and if you stretch back onto the chair and put pressure on the back, the chair is quite easy to misshape. Anyone who accidently leans backs on the chair and puts weight on the back two legs risks the legs buckling. Cleaning: I have to say that these chairs are really easy to clean. They had stood out in our garden over winter and I just washed them over with some soapy water and they came up like new. There was no stains or watermarks. Putting them with a table: Due to the height of the arms, they don't fit under a standard size garden table. This means that anyone who wants to eat at the table has to lean forward and edge themselves to the edge of their seat. On the whole, a useful chair for having n]on 'stand bye' for any unexpected guests but I wouldn't want it as a main chair to use on a day to day basis.

        Advantages

        Disadvantages

        Can't moan for the price.

Since moving house, we have a lovely rear garden - or at least, it will be lovely with a little TLC. This garden, as well as backing onto a large green field, also catches the sun wonderfully for most of the day, and has a smart paved area ideal for dining out. We have our eye on a lovely garden set that we plan on purchasing once we've completed the landscaping, but in the meantime, keen to make the most of the fine weather and sit in the sunshine with a beer, we've picked up 6 of these chairs from Tesco for £6 each (matching table available for £15) which should last us for this summer as we get the work done. These chairs require no assembly. They can be stacked, which I'm sure made things a lot easier for the delivery driver, and they are made of a glossy finish white plastic. They are very light weight - 2.75kg according to the website, and are thus easy to move around the garden if you like to follow the sun. They are 80cm high, by 56 wide, and 54.5 deep. Despite being made of rigid uncushioned plastic, they are actually very comfortable to sit on, although you can buy seat pads and such if you need to. I find them a good size for me, but my boyfriend at 22 stone, although he can fit in them easily, does find the arms a little restrictive. They don't have any issues supporting fairly heavy people, though if the mud is wet they do have a tendency to sink in, so we prefer to keep these on the paved area. These require very little care - a quick wipe down before and after use, and they are lovely and clean. The plastic does scratch quite easily though, which I imagine will result in these quickly looking a little old. It should also be noted that whilst these are rain proof, they will be blown around the garden in heavy winds. They should also be stored away over winter, as if they freeze the plastic will become rigid and snap, in common with most plastic chairs. Overall, at £6 each, these are fine for relaxing and enjoying the sunshine with friends. They are not the most stylish, and I certainly plan on replacing these with a quality wooden set next year, but they are fit for purpose, easy to clean, comfy to sit on, and purse friendly. 4 stars. Available in larger stores or from Tesco Direct .

        Advantages

        Disadvantages

A cheap and basic chair for short use in the garden.

I bought 4 of these chairs a few years ago as the garden table did not come with garden chairs (I was not pleased at all). The chairs are very cheap as the whole lot costed me around £20 so you would not be expecting a luxury chair that you could sink into for a couple of hours. And you would be right these chairs are the exact example of the phrase "you get what you pay for" as they get very uncomfortable after just 20-30 minutes of sitting on as the plastic is hard and the shape of the chairs is not what I would call a good posture. The back of the chair is badly made as the gaps between the plastic can really hurt your back when resting on as they are too wide and thin. The comfort that this chair provides is more for having a little 15-20 sit down rather than for spending a relaxing warm afternoon in. But since the weather is not that nice most of the time I do not really mind. The good things about this chairs is that it is light and portable so you can move it around the garden with you little finger with out even trying. The chairs are also easy to clean just wipe them with a clean wet cloth and you are ready to go. So this chair scores highly on practicality and ease of maintenance. Overall, I would not recommend these chairs if you are looking for comfort as I would suggest spending a bit more money on a quality product. However, if all you need is a basic chair that is easy to use for a couple of minutes in the garden then these chairs are sufficient. An average product considering the price.

        Advantages

        Disadvantages

        Okay, nothing special.

We bought two of these chairs about 3 years ago for in the garden. They were only very cheap at the time, we got two for under £10 and we thought that was a good price to pay. We didn't have much spare money and just wanted something to sit on in the garden. These are basic plastic chairs. The ones we have are dark green which we thought would make them not show up any dirt as much as a white one. It has arms which come round and blend into the legs and also into the back. They are nothing special to look at but nothing offensive either. I find that they are not all that comfortable, the backs are quite hard and there are gaps between the bits on the back and this seems to dig into my back after about 20 minutes of sitting on them. I find they are fine for a short sit down but anything longer then it is not comfortable. These chairs get very hot in the summer when the sun is shining on them because they are dark so maybe the white ones would have been better. They are made from plastic so you can clean them easily. There is a hole at the back of the seat so that rain water can drain down. We find if we leave them outside and it rains, in the morning there is a dried out dirty looking puddle. Before using these we give them a good clean with the hosepipe and then dry them with a towel and then they are fine to use. These aren't all that comfortable but they do provide something to sit on which is more comfortable than sitting on a coat on the floor! They are stackable too for storage which is useful. They are light weight too so easy to move but then this also means that if you're not careful and lean back too heavily they could topple over. I think they are okay but nothing special.

        Advantages

        Disadvantages

        Rescind chairs

Now the weather has started to get nicer I look forward to spending a lot of time in the garden. I like to entertain a lot during the summer and often have the girls with their babies over as well as hosting an annual summer barbecue for our friends from far and wide. In order to accommodate all these people we need lots of chairs. We have some really nice rattan furniture than is shaped like a couch and some big arm chairs but this does not seat 20 or so people unfortunately so last summer I purchased some cheap garden chairs from Tesco's. To say they were cheap was an absolute understatement as each chair cost just £2.25 which was a perfect price as I was buying quite a lot of them and obviously didn't want to spend a fortune as they are not permanently for the garden, just when we have extra guests. The chairs are made of resin to be exact so they are hardly stylish or fashionable but they will do perfectly for what we need them to do, sit people in the garden. They are white so will look fine in the garden. There are no cushions or anything on them but for £2.25 what do you expect. They actually look quite nice. There is a rounded back which allows you to sit back and relax in this chair. The back has slats to it so it conforms to the contours of your back and is quite comfortable. The rounded back of the chair comes down and makes itself into arms so you can rest your arms comfortably in this chair. I would say the chair is quite sturdy too and can take quite a bit of weight, perfect for normal sized people.  The chair is a bit slippy so if you wear sloppy clothes you do slide down a bit if you slouch so you keep on needing to pull yourself up but in jeans or the like it is fine to sit in them. The nice thing about these chairs is that if you want to keep them out overnight you can keep them in the garden as even if it rains it will not wreck these chairs like the rain would if you had wooden garden chairs. We kept ours in the garage over the winter and getting them out again this weekend they were just as new and only a bit dusty. All we did was hose down the chairs and the dust was gone. The other nice thing about these chairs is that they stack on top of each other so although they are a bit bulky you only need to stack them up so you just have a tall stack of chairs to store in your garage but like I've said above you can keep them out and store them in your garden all year if you wish. The dimensions of the chair are listed as H81xW56xD55cm. A perfect cheap garden chair.

        Advantages

        Disadvantages

        See Review

We were having a summer party a couple of years ago and wanted to buy some extra seating for the garden. We were in Tesco anyway buying some food for the BBQ when we spotted these white resin chairs. They were quite cheap to buy, about £2.25 at the time, so we thought we would buy four of them seeing it would only be a tenner and see what they are like. The chairs are made out of a plastic and they feel quite strong even with the low price for them. The seats are quite comfortable to sit in being all rounded off at the edges and the arms are the right height to rest your arms on without them getting an ache underneath like you do on some wooden garden chairs. The legs of the chairs look quite weak but as long as you are just sitting on the chair with a flat surface underneath you they hold up quite strongly. We have some members in the family who are not that small in size and the chairs held their weight easy enough. It is important to keep the legs on a flat surface though as if you try to sit on the chair with the legs uneven then you stand the chance of them breaking. Also, if you notice a crack anywhere on the chair then you should get rid of it and not try to use it as it could break with someone sitting in it and cause a nasty injury. We have had a couple of resin chairs like these break under people before but both times it was because either they had put the chair on an uneven surface and sat down or they had tried to tip the chair back on the back two legs like some people like to do with a normal chair. The chairs stack up nicely inside each other when not in use so you do not need a great big space to store them in. We can fit them stacked easily in our garden shed and still have plenty of room for other things. Another good thing about the chairs is that they are easy to wash, you can wipe them down with a sponge and some soapy water and they come up a treat. You can also leave them out in all weathers if you wanted to but if you leave them out through the winter stacked up you might find them a bit hard to get apart when you go out again. Tesco still sell these chairs and they are still just £2.25 each, we have had ours for about 2 years now and they are still fine to bring out if we have extra people round in the summer.
