      Good deep fat fryer

I'm not really one for "Deep fat fryers" but my boyfriend loves homemade chips being done in a fryer instead of in the oven (He's picky), So we looked up at our local Tesco for a cheap fryer and came across this one which was at the time on special offer with it originally being £32 we paid £21 or so.

It comes in a largish sized box that did feel very light when picked up, inside the box contained the plain white compact fryer with an instruction manual that I don't usually read but it basically tells you how to use it and whats what.

I wasn't too keen on the white color as most of my kitchen has mostly black/silver appliances but I could fit it easily on the kitchen side and it looked okay. The fryer has a button that you push to open the lid where you can see the basket which is on the small side but I can make a lot of chips with it, the basket comes attached with a white handle that's easy to function.

      On the bottom of the fryer it has a slider function with different settings for the type of food you want to cook in it, It's easy too use as it has little pictures of food with the amount of time it would roughly take these include;
      Mushrooms - 150°c, 6 to 8 mins
      Fish - 160°c, 6 to 10 mins
      Onion rings - 170°c, 6 to 10 mins
      Chicken - 180° c, 15 to 20 mins
      Chips - 190° c, 9 to 17 mins
Next to the slider is an off/on button and on that button also has a red light that goes red while warming up to right temperature then the light goes of when it's fully heated.

I've only used this fryer for chips and haven't tried cooking anything else in this but most of my chips turn out very crispy and tasty. I normally use the Crisp 'n' dry oil which is vegetable oil (not the healthiest but we don't eat them often) and I can fill up the fryer with most of the 2 litre bottle
The oil will last a long time in the fryer and only really needs changing when it becomes dirty which also is easy to change as I normally put the old oil into a jug by tipping the fryer over as it's light enough to do and then into bottle the oil came with, be careful though as it can get messy if not careful.

Cooking the chips that I make fresh with potatoes only takes about 10 minutes and they do get really crispy and a nice golden color, but they can be a bit oily so we drain the chips in the basket by shaking it, and then onto kitchen towel which does get rid a lot of the oil. You can buy ready made frozen chips suitable for frying too.
The noise when cooking isn't to loud either as it's only a bit loud when the food first goes in but after a minute or so it quietens down

      1.8 litre oil capacity
      1 kg food capacity
      Removable Basket
      Adjustable Thermostat

Over all I'd recommend this budget friendly fryer as it's easy to use, it's lightweight so can easily pick up, easy too keep clean and cooks tasty food and I will carry on using the fryer for our occasional fried chips.

It will cover all your frying needs but if you have a chrome kitchen think again

The Tefal FF1005 is compact with a 1.2kg food capacity and can be filled with 2.1 litres of oil. This should be more than sufficient for anything but the biggest of families.

The controls are incredibly simple to use with an on/off switch, a button to open the lid and a slide temperature control with little images to help you set the correct temperature. Nothing could be simpler.

Aesthetically it is not the most inspirational piece of kitchen equipment and if you have a kitchen full of chrome, like mine, then you may feel the need to hide it in the cupboard next to the emergency toaster and backup kettle. It is white and is all plastic with a little viewing window and ventilation holes on the lid, under which is a permanent filter to reduce odours and is fully machine washable.

Sadly mine came to an unfortunate end due to a chip emergency, when I had a huge demand for chips and "slightly" over filled it. The resulting mess and carnage is best left unsaid. This is probably a good time to point out that when an appliance says 1.2kg food capacity it in does in fact mean 1.2kg food capacity. Don't be caught out like me. Read the instructions and don't over fill and this will meet all your cooking demands for years to come.

Does averything you would expect from a fryer at a great price.

Compact fryer with 1.2 kg food capacity, 2.1 L oil capacity
Large viewing window on lid for more control over cooking
Safe to touch cool wall body
          Permanent filter to reduce odours
External handle and sealed hinged locking for safer frying.
We bought this fryer to replace a broken one and were surprised how much better they are made recently.
This does everything it promises,it cooks enough chips for 3 people very well, heats up quickly, and I loved the idea of a locking lid for safety.
As promised the outside does stay cool and there is far less odour or smell than my last one.
The down sides are that if you put frozen chips in the fat takes a while to re-heat to the desired temperature, and it takes an awful lot of fat to fill to the maximum,I would say 3 bottles.
You can remove the lid and put it in the dishwasher,a major boon for anyone with a fryer.
We are pleased with it and can overlook any problems as we dont use it an awful lot, maybe once a week as a treat.
