I first became aware of this perfume when a friend came to visit me and was wearing it, it was quiet easily noticed as she walked by me and i asked wot it was she explained it was thierry mugler alien and i should try it, its expensive but last forever so well worth the extra money paid for the brand.
After looking at the perfume online and seeing peoples comments about it i decided it was time to try it, i baught the 90ml bottle at a price of £78 from house of fraser and got home and tried it, this product really does av a very unique fragrance and does last all day using very little.
I always have people comment on how nice it is or asking wot it is so they can get some when i am wearing this, i really do recommend this product weather it be for your self as a treat or that special gift for someone i guarantee they will 100% happy. This is also available in a range of gift sets to which sometimes works out cheaper than just buying the perfume alone as you get extra.
This perfume also comes in refillable and non refillable bottles, which works out cheaper to just take your used bottle back to debenhams and have it refilled than purchasing the whole thing.
I can not describe the smell only as beautiful so here is how it is described for all of you that have not already tried this.
Captivate your senses with the Alien Eau de Toilette. The radiant notes of mandarin essence gives the fragrance a zesty, tangy freshness. The dazzling notes of Moroccan jasmine gives the fragrance a crystalline luminosity. The sensuality of white amber and cashmeran wood caresses the skin with their bewitching scent.
I was actually first introduced to this perfume whilst in Debenhams with my mum. I was looking for a gift and once that was purchased some girls were flocking around a particular perfume, making comments that "it lasts forever". I must admit this was the first time I have actually seen in store people being excited by a perfume. The girl sprayed from a small purple onto her hands and then shared the smell with her friends, they all admired the smell as they walked off to leave me to walk over and see what it was about. They had tried Thierry Mugler's Alien, a perfume which I hadn't heard of before and really I just wanted a new one to add to my otherwise small collection. After discussing it with my mum, we convincingly parted with £50 for the gift set, which contained - a 30ml refillable bottle of the perfume, 100ml of the body lotion, 30ml of the shower gel, 15 ml of the body cream and a nice round white vanity case for it all to be placed in. I know this review is mainly about the perfume, but I do believe this was a rather good deal to pick up from, which I think is exclusive to Debenhams, especially as the refillable 30ml bottle alone retails at around £45! The vanity case is actually extremely useful for travelling, and the lotions provided smell great (as they smell like the perfume) and are also a cool purple colour (for any of those that are easily impressed).
I'd also finally like to mention that this perfume comes in both refillable and non-refillable bottles, the non-refill being a bit cheaper. Whereas I am nowhere near finishing the bottle (though I wouldn't be surprised if I do within the next two years), I was told by the sales assistant the 30ml bottle could be refilled for £24.99 - which isn't bad at all really. The bottle itself is quite presentable - a deep purple that makes it look slightly ethereal and out of this world, like an alien!
I am not a complete perfume expert but after researching I can say that the top note is most likely to be jasmine, with a woody second note followed by an amber third note. Together these do create what I believe to be a truly unique scent. I know perfumes depend on the person, and it is quite difficult for me to explain through words but its a scent which isn't too sweet but at the same time isn't too musky. Considering that both my mother and I use this, I could say this perfume could suit all ages.
The smell is not overpowering, yet only a small amount is really needed per use. The thing that strikes me the most about this perfume is the longevity, it does last all day which I find is not the case with other perfumes.
In conclusion, I would suggest this perfume to pretty much anyone looking for a new perfume, its worth the extra money you pay for it and an unforgettable addition to my perfume collection!
WHAT IS IT?
A bottle of perfume by Thierry Mugler. Alien is a follow up perfume to the Angel perfume by the same designer.
I think this is an unusual and exciting bottle. It is dark purple with gold pieces on the lid and has been made to look like a scary alien. It is quite fat because it is only a short bottle but I like it very much, my husband says that it is ugly and it is in a way but I think it is very cute also. It is a spray bottle that sprays out the right amount for each application.
Alien is quite a strong perfume and it is very rich to wear, the main smell is of jasmine and I like that I can smell that all the way through the perfume. Jasmine is floral but I think that Alien has got a woody smell as well and it is a very warm fragrance also. There is amber in it and I think that goes very nice with the jasmine, the wood smell is like oak or something out of a mans fragrance but it is weak so this perfume still smells feminine.
WHAT I THINK
I like this perfume very much and I will buy it again. The perfume is strong and it lasts for a long time before I have got to apply it again. The fragrance is very beautiful even though it is quite basic and I like the way that Thierry Mugler has matched the different smells up so that you can smell them all together but not separate very many of them.
I think the jasmine smells very natural and that pleases me because I do not like flowery scents that are too artificial. It is very rich smelling and does not lose any strength even when I have been using the perfume for many hours. The woody part of it is also very natural and I like the way that I can smell something that is like sawdust as well as a stiff wood like oak or it might be a harsh sandalwood, I cannot tell for sure.
I like the amber very much and think that that warms up the fragrance and it is matched very beautifully with the flowery jasmine. I think the amber is what lingers for the longest time on my skin and I am happy for that because I like how this makes my perfume smell, my friend has started to wear Alien after she tried some of mine and she says that it is the amber that makes her like it so much. I do not know what amber smells of all alone but in perfume it warms up the all over fragrance and makes it smell adult instead of for very young women.
A 60ml bottle of Alien costs about £45 and I am happy to pay that price because it is a beautiful smell that lasts a long time and lots of people say they like my perfume when I am wearing it.
5 Dooyoo Stars.
I have tried almost every perfume out there and it is something I always receive as a gift from people because everyone knows how much I like trying out new ones. This was something that I received from a friend recently and I was really excited to try it out as I had never come across this scent before.
I immediately like the bottle a lot because it feels both very feminine and elegant whilst also managing to be modern and unusual. The bottle is made from a purple coloured glass which is fairly unusual within the perfume world. Most brands go for lighter coloured glass but this perfume is a strange rich mid-purple colour which I really like. It also has gold accents across the bottle which makes the purple colour feels very warm, rich and opulent. I love that the glass on the bottle is cut into these beautiful sharp angles, it makes it seem very strange yet expensive.
The fragrance feels very fresh and modern but with classic notes that makes it a very versatile scent. The overpowering smell is of fresh, powdery floral notes that feel very feminine and summery. There are also underlying notes of citrus which again feel very fresh but these a mixed with a subtly spiced woody section which gives the perfume some body and depth.
The top notes are mandarin oranges and a mixture of citrus notes. These work well together and provide a lovely punchy citrus burst to begin with. This feels very summery and light and manages to seem very modern which fits in with the overall theme of the perfume. The heart notes are white flowers and Moroccan jasmine which mesh beautifully together and provide this heady soft floral layer which has a powdery softness to it which is utterly feminine and elegant. The base notes which finish off the scent are cashmeran and white amber which add a beautiful woody earthiness to the scent, mixed with a subtle spiciness which is very sexy and seductive.
The overall impression of the perfume is one that is multi-layered and constantly changing. This feels very complex and sexy because it has a certain sense of mystery about it. On the surface it is just another citrusy scent but when the perfume mellows it becomes a heady mixture of floral and woody notes which mesh together to create this utterly divine scent.
As much as I love the actual perfume I do have some slight issues with the branding. Alien to me says something weird, other worldly, strange and this perfume does not say that to me. The notes that they've chosen and in the combination they've chosen is fairly typical of most perfumes, though which a few surprises which develop as the perfume passes through the different notes. I do think the colours go with the scent you get so my only real issue is the whole alien concept which just seems a little bit incoherent.
This perfume retails at between £28-£45 depending on what size bottle you go for. I think the scent is versatile enough that you could use it day or night, summer or winter, young or old and therefore it makes a good investment.
Overall, this is a pleasant scent but it doesn't exactly feel out of this world.
