In 1997 Gucci brought out the Envy perfume. Despite the fact that it is a fragrance that is already been a while on the market, this fragrance is still popular. According to the perfumer Maurice Roucel this perfume is like a enchanting journey trough a flied of flowers. And it is a true addiction. Gucci Envy says it's a refreshing, floral fragrance, which is not too heavy and very suitable for spring, summer and daytime wear. It is a very feminine fragrance, which use is made of a blend of extracts including hyacinth, magnolia, lily of the valley, jasmine, violet, iris and musk. The top notes consists of the scents of hyacinth, magnolia, the heart of lily of the valley, jasmine, violets and from the extracts of the iris and musk
Gucci Envy Eau de Toilette for women comes in an elongated simple clear glass vial, which was designed by Tom Ford. It is beautiful because of its simplicity. It is as I said earlier an elongated transparent glass vial, which only the front has gold letters with Gucci Envy. The vial is closed with a silver spray showing again a silver square cap. At the bottom of the bottle is a label which states that the bottle contains an Eau de Parfum and the contents of the vial. When you buy the bottle it's packed in a transparent elongated transparent hard plastic case.
The eau de toilette fragrance smells really feminine, especially in the beginning, the flowers smell really prevailed. When the perfume has settled the scent of musk comes more forward.
My opinion though I am more a fan of oriental fragrances, I find this a delicious scent on warmer days. It is a slightly sweet and feminine eau de toilette. When I used it for the first time I thought it was too flowery, but after fifteen minutes came the scent of musk more to his right and I did appreciate the smell. This perfume evaporates very slowly you will smell it all day long. It is a soft, non-intrusive and certainly not too heavy scent. It's just subtly present. I think it's definitely a scent that also can be worn by young people. For myself, I find it more of a scent for daytime. Also very suitable for work wear. The packaging is simple and chic. It is certainly worth a try this perfume.
I was given this as a gift in the 30ml size last Xmas and I still have about a quarter of the bottle left. I can't really make up my mind on this one as part of me quite likes it but the other part feels that it's a bit, em, what I would call Mumsy (no offence intended to any Mums out there!). You can pick this up for around £20 per 30ml on sites such as ebay and amazon or in most Superdrug/Semichems.
Gucci Envy comes in a tall thin rectangular shaped glass bottle with a silver metal lid and "Gucci Envy" written on the side. It's very clean, minimal and modern looking - quite attractive actually in a basic sort of way. The perfume inside is a pale yellow colour and it has the basic spray button you'll find on most perfumes.
This is definately a floral perfume from start to finish but I can smell a faint type of essential oil scent to it - like neroli or orange oil - which is why I think I quite like it as I love the aromatherapy style scents. The floral smell is quite strong and punchy and it smells a bit talcom powdery at times I find. This coupled with the slight alcoholly smell upon application are the downsides for me as I think that's what I find to be the slightly dated part of it.
That said, for some reason I still find myself using this stuff! It's not a perfume I would buy for myself at all and once it's finished I'll never use it again unless I get bought it as a surprise gift. For me, it's one of those perfumes you deem not nice enough to wear for nights out or occassions but it'll do for everyday work wear! That's not necessarily a bad thing and it's not an unpleasant smell but it's just not really me.
This has been one of my favourite scents for a good while now. Can't even remember how I ended up trying this, but would hazard a guess that I had a sniff in Boots or something at their Testers and that was that. Probably been using this Perfume for about 7 years now. I got into designer Perfumes around that time. If you buy them at the right place then they aren't really that expensive.
Anyway onto this scent. I've only seen this sold in a 50ml bottle. I get it for around £19 in Semi Chem or online, whereas it can cost around £25 in Boots. Quite a difference in price. You can get this in a gift set as well which has a Body Lotion and Shower Gel which I get at Christmas some years.
The bottle is a simple looking bottle. It is clear glass and a slim rectangular shape. The lettering is on the front and looks crisp and sharp. The liquid is a light green colour and this is eay seen through the clear glass. The lid is a square lid which is a shiny silver. Goes nice enough with the bottle as it sort of jazzes it up a bit. Although the bottle doesn't look expensive, it looks sleek and due to the brand name you know it is designer and should be a good quality. The box is simple as well. Just a rectangular shape and it is pure white with the lettering on the front as well.
I just read what notes are in here, and I think if I had read it then I wouldn't have tried it as some of the notes I would say i'm not into. This has Lily of the Valley, Violet, Wood and Musk, Does sound that interesting, but I can't smell that kind of scent in here. The scent is light and fresh and I think it smells nice and citrussy. The scent is nice even when first sprayed and is that bit strong, but when settled down it is fruity but with an airy twist to it. It lasts a good lenght of time as well, and although I do reapply through the day it's just because I like to smell my scent all the time.
A really nice designer scent and 1 I would recommend to anyone.
Still heading through my perfume collection to see what else I have hanging about I came across this little entry. I vaguely remember using it but I can't remember how I came to own it. Probably in one of my perfume shopping sprees. But I am not a fan of floral fragrances so I have a feeling that this is a floral gem which I have left on the side for emergencies. But I plan on bringing it back to live with a couple of sprays.
** Perfume Packaging **
The Gucci brand is known for its 'square' design and even though this was one of their earlier perfumes. (Released in 1997) it still represents their simple yet stunning designs. Compared to the newer bottles I do find this slightly boring and not as special or glamorous as their other bottles. It has a solid glass bottom with a steel square lid. It looks solid and stable but when you actually hold the bottle it seems to feel more fragile and feminine then it looks. I can't help but be attracted by perfume bottles and they are on of the main things that attract me to a perfume. I like originality and something a bit special This is why I cant understand why I have this perfume as I really am not excited by the packaging at all.
The glass allows you to see the greenish type liquid inside which is quite important in terms of Gucci Envy. Not only because it obviously represents the famous saying 'Green with Envy' but it also represents the green floral fragrance which is the body of the perfume. A simple yet stylish design that in my opinion lakes imagination. Hopefully the liquid inside will be slightly more stimulating.
** The Heart Notes **
The heart scents (otherwise known as the middle notes) are what makes up the main body of the perfume and is usually what catches the most attention and appeal. The heart notes are most apparent within an hour of wearing the perfume and generally last throughout the life of the perfume on the skin. So when people ask 'oh what's that smell?' it's usually these notes that they can sense.
Hyacinth, Magnolia, Jasmine, Lily of the valley, Violet, Iris and Wood Musk.
Created by the famous perfumer, Maurice Roucel it definitely represents his tradition of creating smells of flowers, meadows and forests. Using nature in his entire range Gucci Envy is a floral perfume full to the brim of the warm yet light green scents. A bouquet of flowers weighed down with a bit of musk creates a powerful blast of freshness. Obviously you have to be a floral fan to really appreciate the great mix that Roucel has created.
** Wearing The Fragrance **
As soon as the perfume is sprayed you get an instant hit of sweet almost bitterness. The soft floral almost gives you a slight metallic aroma, only very slightly which in turn introduces the darker side of the perfume perfectly. The initial crispness almost reminds me of a burst of lemon, yet this perfume has no fruitiness to it at all. Although a floral perfume it definitely has an edgy undertone which helps back up the 'Envy' name. It would be pointless having such a strong name with a light and airy perfume behind it.
After the first initial burst of freshness the fragrance begins to settle and within five minutes it adjusts itself into a strong and almost deep fresh forest smell. It becomes warm and the wood musk definitely makes itself apparent but still keeping the floral aroma floating around. This keep the perfume feminine as wood and forest scents often indicate a male fragrance. The soft floral fragrances almost float around like butterflies and whenever the fragrance takes a dance around your nose you still smell the pleasant soft aroma as well as the deep musk that powders itself out.
Crisp, Green and sharp the fragrance only needs one or two sprays or it will become over powering. After spraying the perfume three times it has given me a slight foggy headache and it is definitely one that sticks in the throat. However, if used sparingly as an evening perfume I can imagine this being easy to wear. It is long lasting which is always a good thing with a perfume and the complete wave after wave of notes blending together ensures that it doest stay too strong and blends with your skin throughout the day. I can't say that this is a perfume I would choose to wear. The floral really isn't for me, and although this is light mixed with a deep musk I still feel that it comes across as too strong. I prefer fruity scents and other then the initial tinge of lemon, this has no fruitiness whatsoever.
In my opinion this is definitely a classic perfume but still fits into the modern floral category. The initial green crispiness makes it fresh and feminine, but it becomes slightly sensual with the help of the woody musk it works well as an evening or night time perfume.
** Price, Availability & Other Products **
As with most perfumes the price varies depending on where you got and what size you get. I would always advice you to look online as there are so many perfume retailers now. As I said at the beginning of my review I have to be honest and say I really don't know how I got this perfume. I obviously bought it but at what price I couldn't tell you! However, now Gucci Envy in priced approximately at £20 for 30ml. with a 50mlo for £30 I would say that this is about average, if not cheaper then average for a Gucci perfume.
Gucci Envy also comes in-
Body Lotion 150ml
Bath & Shower Gel 150ml
** Recommendation **
As I expect with most Gucci perfumes, this is a classic timeless scent. But somehow the crispiness and freshness kept by the light florals ensures the perfume stays modern. It is extremely floral with a bouquet of different depths of aromas. It isn't one for me but I am sure that floral lovers will be more then happy with this.
I would recommend this as an evening or special occasion perfume because of the lingering musk and almost warm sultry side of the fragrance. The Gucci brand is classic and I think that as a gift the perfume should go down well. Just keep in mind that it may be best for someone who only uses perfumes for special occasions or someone who you know prefers floral to anything else. Long lasting and strong the quality shines through, just don't spray too much or you will get the overpowering, chocking sensation which is far from pleasant.
Personally if I did smell this on someone else I wouldn't be green with envy. It may get a slight amount of interest but I don't think it is anything extremely special. It is nice to have on the shelf but I can't say that it is something I would choose again. I have to give it three stars because of how well the notes work together and how they have created a strong long lasting perfume. Staying in fashion for over 10 years is never an easy task. However, in my opinion Gucci Envy is rather boring and uninspiring, the overall powdery floral for me is just average. Gucci have done much better and this won't be added to my wish list.
Thank you for reading!
Thank you for reading!
I absolutely love this fragrance - I could literally drown in it! I tend to buy a lot of different fragrances and love the strong and musky smells such as Ghost and Allure for women. However on one occasion I went out without any perfume on (was running really late!), and long and behold there was a gorgeous single guy who took my fancy! So whilst shopping with everyone I went into the perfume shop and bought a small (15l) bottle of Gucci Envy - ran into the toilets and sprayed it - from that day on I never went without one in my bag. The lovely fresh and spring like scent is so addictive and alluring that I not only won my date that night but also found a friend for life. I use this to uplift my spirits and always to remember that first date with someone who has now become a close friend. Would defiantly recommend this as it's not really in the high price range as most perfumes are, and it is just gorgeous to have on.
I receive a lot of perfume as gifts, but Gucci's Envy is the only one for quite some time that I have bought for myself. While some might think the fragrance too heavy for daytime use, I find that it fades comfortably into the background without the overwhelming quality of some of the more expensive fragrances. The slight lemony scent acts as a pick-me-up for those mornings when you might be a little slow to get going.
The price in most shops is neither very low nor very high - but it might be high enough to put some shoppers off trying out the fragrance. As always, perfume is a very personal thing and I would recommend asking to try it - and spend some time with it on your skin - before returning to make the purchase.
All in all Envy provides a feeling of quality without the need to spend the large sums you would need to purchase some other perfumes. I have also always found that the spray is set so that you can actually use the last bit of perfume in your bottle - this might sound obvious, but too many manufacturers fall short there!
I love this fragrance I'm now on my second bottle. I discovered this perfume when whilst being in the office a fellow female colleague walked by me and left a wonderful sensuous trail in the air. This definately aroused my senses, so much so I had to compliment her on her perfume and ask the name of the fragrance. It was indeed Gucci Envy. It wasn't too long before I was out shopping for this fragrance, it was a true indulgence for me as I normally wait for special occasions such as birthdays or christmas and hope that someone will buy me expensive perfume. However I think I'm worth it and I think Gucci Envy was worth it so I brought a bottle. I wear Gucci Envy in the evenings as it has a strong scent. When I wear it, it gives me a added confidence and makes me feel even more special. I've even brought my good friend a Gucci Envy gift set, so she won't be the "Envy" of my perfume!
I really like the fragrance Gucci Envy. I have some Eau de Toilette and bought it because it smelled so good in the shop. Unfortunately I do not find that the scent is strong enough to last. As soon as I have sprayed it, it smells really light and fresh. There is a very subtle spicy undertone but mainly it is fruity and fresh. Having said that, it does not have a modern smell. It is quite traditional.
I felt really disappointed with this fragrance. It promises so much but just does not last. It is too light. However, I love to spray it before I go to bed so that I can smell the light fresh fragrance as I drift off the sleep. I have stopped using this in the day time because it just does nothing for me. It is great for lifting your spirits and brightening you up. It is like a little squirt of sunshine. I just wish it was stronger or if not stronger, that they could make a way for the lightness to stay on your skin.
I really like the bottle for this perfume. It is tall and narrow and very simple. It's modern packaging is not reflected in the more traditional smell. It looks good in our bathroom which is a very modern and simple room.
I currently have the 50ml bottle of this on my dressing table after buying this fragrance for my Mum a few months back and one she really isn't keen on hence I own it lol It's one of them I use after I've had a shower, put my pj's on and get into bed (ALONE) lol I've never worn it out cos it really isn't me at all.
On the upside of this fragrance it is fairly pleasant, and smells slightly flowery and expensive.
What Gucci Say About Their Fragrance....
A transparent floral fragrance inspired by the unique scent of the vine flower. Gucci Envy is a burst of colors - mysterious and modern, intimate and sensual. Its like taking a deep breath of fresh air.
I put it in the same vain as channel number 5 in that respect, (another I'm not keen on) so if you know someone who loves Chanel Number 5 I would try them with this.
For me, personally it's too light and I can't identify the smells at all which is something I don't like.
The bottle looks very dull and I do like interesting fancy bottles on my dressing table!
It's a long oblong bottle. Plain glass, minimal writing (i.e on the front I'm simply told that it is 'Gucci Envy' in silver writing), with a silver lid (as I said just a bit boring and stade for me)
I wouldn't buy this for someone under 35 as their are so much other nicer fragrances about that are far sexier as this is about as sexy as a wet kipper!
It is sophisticated for someone older, maybe for day time use rather than night as it isn't heavy or long lasting.

Date of creation : 1997 Fragrance notes : top fragrance Notes: magnolia, lily of the valley and jasmine. The middle notes are: violet, iris and sandalwood and the base of the fragrance is: musk, vetiver and moss Uses and characteristics: Formal wear. Fresh, fairly heady Range: Eau de toilette 30ml, 50ml & 100ml. Body Lotion, bath salts, bath tube, bath oil, Parfum purse spray 7.5 ml, deodorant spray I have used Envy for 3 years now, in the summer nights. I still love it as much as when I first started using it. It also makes me feel incredibly sexy whilst wearing it. It can last all day. It was bought for me as a present. I do not seem to get bored of it and the square bottle is very stylish in the bathroom. The 30ml fits well in a handbag but the lid can come out quite easily
I've never had any Gucci perfumes before and this was a present from my mother. I was very impressed with it. It's light, fruity and the fragrance has a great staying power and usually lasts all day. You could wear it for pretty much any occasion, work or a special night out. As with any nice perfume that smells great, it will either make you feel confident, or sexy depending on the ocassion that you're wearing it for! I'll certainly be buying this again once I've finished this bottle and it's also encouraged me to try out some of the other Gucci fragrances as well. If you get the 30ml size which is oblong and almost pocket-size. It means that it's easy to slip into virtually the smallest handbag when you're out and about.
If you cannot afford clothes and accesories by Gucci, why not buy their perfume instead? Gucci Envy is the kind of perfume that makes me feel expensive and confident. I wonder if it's psychological or not, but knowing that it's by Gucci makes me feel snooty - of course, if I were wearing the right clothes and shoes to match! The olive liquid is contained in a tall glass bottle, just the right kind of chic ornament to decorate your make-up table. To me, a woman who wears this perfume is strong, confident and clads herself in chic, black attire and red shoes. Just the right amount to intimidate her enemies, but soft enough to 'lunch' with her colleagues at the posh restaurant around the corner. It represents the kind of sophistication that emblems the Gucci philosophy. This is the kind of perfume that will last me the whole day without getting 'sourish' like most perfumes do. Like most branded perfumes, Gucci Envy is the kind that is quite expensive. For a 30 ml EDT spray, it costs £25. At 'The Perfume Shop', they are currently selling this at £19.99. So you can save £5.
This is not a perfume to fall in love with. It is a harsh mistress, dressed in a tall, skyscraper like bottle. It gives little but demands everything. This is a perfume to wear to a business meeting, to show, naturally, that you mean business. Men will wonder what has hit them, as this sharp fragrance hits their nostrils, delivering the nasal equivalent of a blow to the balls. However, muuch to my dismay, I can no longer wearing this perfume in a power suit because it gives me sneezing fits. This started about a month after I began wearing it on a regular basis and although I long to purchase some again, I'm just not a person to wait around to go out until my sneezing stops. But the scent is still something of a fascination to me. Extremely floral, it has aromas of hyacinth and magnolia, followed by lily of the valley and jasmine. And somehow, they managed to make a perfume out of something so soft and delicate, which combined can make even the hardest of bosses give you a pay rise.
Well girls, i've only just bought Gucci Envy and was so excited that i've actually bought something new for the first time in ages i felt i needed toshare it with you!!! I bought it in Asda supermarket for only £20.00 and as most my buys are, it was an impulse one! But it has to be the best buy i have made in a while. The fragrancy is just heaven although it can be subtle, depending on how much you wish to use, of course, but it is a perfume to wear to work in the daytime or when your out on the town either for a quite one or not! Anyway i highly recommend it and i am definatly going to buy it again!
