“ Brand: Germaine Monteil / Type: Fragrance / Concentration: Eau de Parfum „
I bought this Germaine Monteil L'Eau de Monteil perfume a few years ago.
Germaine Monteil was a New York based fashion designer and cosmetician who founded the cosmetics and perfume company sharing her name.
She moved from France to the United States in the 1930s.
This perfume, L'Eau de Monteil was not released until 1996.
~ Bottle ~
The main reason I bought this perfume was because I liked the bottle. It is made from glass and it is slightly tinted a green/blue colour and it has a leaf pattern embossed onto the glass.
From above the bottle is a thin oval shape. It is quite wide and flat.
My bottle is 30ml and it's quite cute.
The words, 'L'Eau de Monteil Eau de Parfum' are written in small gold letters towards the bottom of the bottle.
On the top of the bottle there is a gold coloured spray button, which is covered by a green/blue tinted clear plastic lid, which clicks into place.
The bottle is small and cute and I like the tinted glass and the leaf pattern on it.
~ Price and availability ~
I bought this perfume a few years ago from Boyes.
I haven't seen it in any other shops.
It is available on ebay, where a 50ml bottle will set you back £49.99 plus postage or a 50ml bottle can be shipped from Hong Kong for £28.37.
My 30ml perfume from Boyes cost me just £0.99, which was a bargain, so I would not pay close to £30 for a 50ml bottle.
~ Scent ~
The perfume is initially quite strong.
It has top notes of orange and carnation.
It contains heart notes of jasmine, rose, wisteria and sea breeze.
Its base notes are sandalwood, benzoin and vanilla.
It has a white floral scent and once it settles it is quite powdery. I can't pick out any individual notes in it.
It is quite fresh and I think it is a nice perfume to wear in spring or summer. It is quite light once it has settled on your skin and it has a clean scent to it.
There is a slight sharpness to this perfume due to the floral notes, but it is a fairly subtle perfume and I don't think anyone would find it too offensive. I consider myself to be easily offended by sharp or harsh notes, usually spices, but this perfume doesn't offend me at all.
I have found it to be long lasting and it is still evident after an 8 hour day.
I'd say this is more of a casual perfume, rather than one I'd choose for special occasions. It reminds me of summer nights, when the sun is setting at about 9pm.
It's difficult to say what age range I think this perfume would appeal to. Although it might be a little bit sharp for some people's tastes, I am in my 20s and I like it and I can imagine it would appeal to more mature women as well.
~ Conclusion ~
I really like this white floral perfume. It is light and fresh and I really like the bottle too.
I would recommend it and I would buy it again, but I wouldn't pay a lot for it now that I have had a 30ml bottle for just £0.99.
Luckily I have plenty left so I won't have the problem of seeking a new bottle out for a while.
