The original Sensuous is exactly that. I was told by an Estee Lauder employee that it was meant to be a mix between a masculine and feminine perfume, and it definitely has an energy from the combination. It seems mature yet playful, definitely not sickly- and perfectly boyfriend friendly; I usually keep a hairband on my wrist, and it easily picks up the smell. Once my boyfriend realised that it did he started keeping my old hairbands because they smelled so lovely! I'd recommend it to anyone of or over the age of 16- and the beautiful and sophisticated packaging would make a perfect gift.
I first found Sensuous on a trip to London three years ago, when I was given a beautiful purple ribbon with the fragrance sprayed on. I had various other perfume ribbons from House of Fraser and I'd tried them onto my bag, but this one smelled so good I wanted to keep its smell, so I kept it zipped up inside and rationed my exposure to it. At the time I was still working my way through a bottle of Clinique Happy, but it was never finished as I found the little roll on bottle at a discount shop for about £14 and instantly started wearing it every day; and it lasted for ages, being in roll on form. I got the 50ml bottle for my birthday the next spring, and I still haven't quite finished it (although I'm getting scarily close!), because it's potent enough to last well into the evening. If you have long hair it also works well if you spray it into your hair from a distance; you send out a refreshing waft whenever you move your hair.
'Sensous' by Estee Lauder has quite a few mixed reviews, but I have to say that I love it!
I was bought my first bottle for Christmas after trying a tester in Boots and adding it to my Christmas list, I had read in a magazine that it was Kiera Knightly's favourite perfume - I don't have some great affintity with Kiera, I just hadn't heard if it before so thought I would try it.
I find some perfumes overpowering or too fruity, but Sensuous is unlike any other fragrance I have tried before - I can only describe it as very soft and feminine. The Estee Lauder Website describes it 'woody-amber', molten woods and amber surrounded by atmospheric florals, warmed by a hint of pepper and a touch of honey - That sounds more like a cake recipe to me, but I agree with Estee Lauder when they also describe it as confident & elegant, it has a warmth to it which lasts and lasts.
Sensous won the Cosmopolitan Award for 'Sexiest Women's Fragrance 2009' and I would agree also that it is a very sexy, sensuous scent.
I think the bottle could be designed a little better, it is not very modern and could perhaps do with updating a little, also the lid sometimes does not stay on properly.
Price wise - It is a little more pricey than most fragrances I use at about £30 (if you're lucky) for a 50ml bottle - having said that - you don't need to use much though.
This is now my 'evening' perfume - I am quite fickle and don't really remain loyal to any particular perfume, preferring to swap and change when new ones come onto tthe market - but I am now onto my 3rd bottle of Sensuous, so it must be good!
As my friends know I collect perfume bottles so at christmas my friends and family buy me perfume amongst other presents and this year I got a few nice perfume bottles that are worth keeping, I also got a 30 ml bottle of this Estee Lauder: Sensuous, Eau de Parfum which retails at around £30 in the shops and can also be bought online at places like strawberry.net and cheapsmells.com for £27 or cheaper depending on which site you buy it from.
Although buying online incurs postage charges the scent is posted to your door so you don't have to shop around. I was lucky enough to recieve it as a gift.
The packaging is just a cardboard square box with a colouring of pink that is a metalic shade very much like the plastic top of the bottle of eau de parfum inside the box. The bottle is glass and dainty with little waves of ridges moulded around the glass bottle which is a squashed oval shape with a flat bottom that can be stood ont he dressing table. You apply the eau de parfum by pressing the spay top.
I prefer an open top on a parfum bottle as you can just tip the bottle and dab the scent onto your skin and get the amount you desire, with a spray top sometimes the jet of parfum that comes out can be too much and then you have the overpowering scent of the eau de parfum on your skin as you have applied too much.
This spray isn't a large one and lets out a tiny jet of eau de parfum which can then be rubbed onto the other wrist so that you only apply a little at a time.
This makes it economical to buy and so it will last you a few months if you wear it everyday. I like to swap and change my perfum depending on what mood I am in and if I am going out anywhere special, so this one will last me more than a few months as I won't be using it everyday.
The tones in the parfum are not very subtle and it has lots of flowery tones and the scent of oranges too. This also has amber tones which linger a long time on the skin after a few hours it is the amber that will be there lingering and not the flowery tones.
I'm still not sure what I think of this as somedays I like the scent and others I'm not too sure, as it seems to fade away quickly and leave the amber tones.
If you were buying it for the flowery scent then you'd be a little disappionted with this and would be better off buying something else.
It has many layers of tones int his eau de parfum and these are :-
Mandarin Orange Pulp
Now I have a good nose when it comes to buying and wearing parfum as I collect the bottles I have over the years become somewhat a good judge of parfum as I have so many I can choose from to wear each day.
This one has the nice flowery tones and lily is usualy one of the stronger flower scents to come through when it is used in a parfum, ylang is also a strong flowery tone but the manderin in this parfum seems to out do the flowery tones and overpower the scent.
With all parfum's when you first squirt it onto your skin you have to give it a few minutes before smelling the scent as if you smell it straight away you won't be able to distingush the different tones. With this one however, it is the manderin that comes through first and then the amber.
I could not detect the honey, or sandlewood which surprised me a lot as sandlewood is used in nearly all parfum as a base tone and is one of the scents that is usually the last to fade.
If your looking for a sensual parfum then I think this one has missed that mark altogether and should have been called something else like amber breeze or something like that as the only scent that lingers is the amber.
I was a little dissapointed and won't be buying any for myself when this bottle is empty and I am glad it was a present as I would have felt like I had wasted my money on this.
I will wear it as it isn't disgusting and I do like the amber and orange tones as it has a fresh scent at first and then the lingering amber afterwards, but I won't be wearing this on a night out as to me this isn't anything special.
A mediocre scent in my opinion.
~A little bottle that lasted a long time~
I am a fan of a good number of the range of fragrances produced by Estee Lauder, with one or two being amongst my all time favorites, yet the Estee Lauder Sensuous fragrance really failed to hit the mark when I tried it out. When the fragrance was being newly promoted I was able to pick up a rather good sized 10ml bottle of the fragrance for free as they were being given out to regular Estee Lauder customers at our local store. I was more than happy to be able to try Sensuous out for a good length time before deciding if it was something I wanted to splash out on. The amount of fragrance within the sample bottle was more than enough to last for several weeks use, which allowed me to fully make my mind up about the fragrance.
The bottle I had was a scaled down version of the full sized one so it was a curved almost flat shaped circle with a series of lined patterns that ran around the clear glass giving it a rather nice touchy feely effect which was pleasing to the eye at the same time. The lid of my bottle was a simple push on and off type of plastic top and it was really nothing special, although I felt it was functional enough when I wanted to open or close the bottle. As my bottle was small and compact it was easy to pop it into a bag to take out with me if I wanted to do so and that was rather useful at times. As my bottle had no spray applicator it had to be dabbed or splashed on when I wanted to use it and I found that easy enough to do when needed. Over all I feel that the little bottle worked as well as it could when in use and I had no complaints to make about it.
~About the fragrance notes~
Instead of showing us the top, middle and base notes of the fragrance Estee Lauder want us to imagine the fragrance has and I quote ' A warm core, surrounded by feminine and luscious notes'. The fragrance is still based around 3 distinct layers of ingredients, although the way in which we are to imagine they work for us has been altered. The fragrance is described as being a woody amber based floral fragrance and whilst that makes it sound rather inviting in truth I found it to be lack lustre, poorly finished and rather unimpressive.
The Warm Notes ~ Molten Woods and Amber
The Feminine Notes ~ Warm Jasmine, Ghost Lily, Magnolia and Ylang Ylang
The Luminous Notes ~ Black Pepper, Sandalwood, Honey and Mandarin Orange Pulp
Sensuous or Sickly?
I feel the list of fragrance notes for this fragrance give me a confused description of the scent which I find hard to reconcile with what I felt about this when I wore it. I cannot think of black pepper and honey as being so called luminous notes within the Sensuous fragrance, as when I wore it I found that the honey gave off a sweetened warming tone to what was a floral and amber scented fragrance. At first I found this to be an over sweet sickly blend which was difficult to get used to. Whilst the black pepper in the fragrance added a very slight spiced feel to it, I feel that was dumbed down rather strongly by the florals and amber that took control of the scent once it was on my skin.
The first impressions I had of the fragrance once applied was 'ooh this is going to be impossible to wear' as the over sweet blend seemed to take my breath away. I found the initial blast of cloying sweetness thankfully did soften and trail off, yet gave the other ingredients very little chance to shine through. I felt the fragrance did become slightly more wearable over time, yet it never truly worked its magic for me when I wore it. There was a really faint slightly tangy orange tone in this fragrance, which was there for just a very brief moment, although I found it to be so light that I often thought I had imagined it being there, until I came across the list of fragrance notes for Sensuous.
One the whole I found that the Sensuous fragrance was far from sensuous when I wore it as it never seemed to fulfill the promise it had and was a fragrance that did not sit well with me for much of the time. I feel that it gave off a jumbled feel that was too sickly sweet and came all at once, which then died off to a much softer version of the same type of thing. I found that the nice feeling of sensing the changes that a fragrance makes when it wears down over a number of hours on the skin was missing from Sensuous and I was not impressed with how it performed because of that.
~Summary and rating~
I wouldn't say that Sensuous was unpleasant, as it was some times wearable for short periods, it just wasn't anything special and at times I found wearing it was rather irritating due to the combination of ingredients used. I felt didn't work as well as other Estee Lauder fragrances that I use more frequently and the over sweetened tone didn't suit in this case. The woody elements in Sensuous were masked by the initial fragrance that continued along the same theme and they were unable to come to the fore when needed. As such I feel the fragrance was a let down and will not be a fragrance I would choose to buy in future. When I consider that a full sized bottle of the fragrance could cost as much as £32 for a 30ml bottle I feel that it ought to have been better than it was and as such I feel I can only give Sensuous a 3 star product rating. At that kind of money you really do expect a fragrance to be something special as there are so many fragrances around that offer more than this, that can be bought for far less.
My mum shops at Estee Lauder a fair bit so has gathered up a decent amount of free samples and of course being a girl I regularly rummage through them to see what I can steal (she doesn't mind :P).
Among the lotions and potions I came across a 1.5ml sample of the Sensuous fragrance described as 'Warm. Luminous. Feminine.A modern new definition of sensuality. Confident and elegant.A rich sensuous core of Molten Woods and Amber, surrounded by atmospheric florals, Pepper, Mandarin Orange Pulp and Honey' it sounded delicious so I went ahead and sprayed it on my wrists and neck.
Now I'm not usually a fan of Estee Lauder fragrances as they tend to smell like something an OAP would wear (no offence!) just generally overpowering and not my style, I've noticed that these fragrances tend to be the ones that are a dark yellow in colour whereas their more subtle fragrances are pretty much colourless or just have a slight hint of colour.
Back to this particular fragrance as soon as I applied it I was overwhelmed as it literally makes you smile inside, the description fits perfectly! As cheesy and dramatized as it may sound I could actually imagine being in the woods surrounded by flowers with that exact smell in the air plus the hints of pepper really stand out giving your senses that extra tingle.
If it was based on my own opinion I'd say the smell didn't last too long maybe only a couple of hours but I get compliments on how nice I smell all day when wearing it and now I've realised that my nose just gets used to the scent quickly and it does actually last.
Overall I'd say this is a must have if you want a really classy but fun fragrance which is subtle yet noticeable and the only disadvantage is the price at £34.75 on Amazon for a 30ml bottle which is a little expensive but to be honest I'm sure it would last a decent amount of time as you only need to apply one spray to each area.
I am a true Jean Paul Gaultier 'classique' fan and for my wedding I decided to wear something new that wasn't as heavy as JPG.
The poor lady at Boots went through every perfume pratically then took me to the Estee Lauder counter to try their 'Sensuous'. I feel in love there and then!
I tried the tester on my wrist to see what the fragrance would smell on my skin.I then went to meet my Mum in another shop as she hates perfume and would be a good person to tell me the truth! She immediatley said whats that lovely smell so I went straight back and bought it.
Sensuous comes in a orange/peach box with a purple outline, personally I don't like it. However the peachy round bottle with a terracotta lid looks quite feminine and classy sat on my dressing table.
You have the chioce of either Eau de Parfum or Eau de Toilette.
Ean de Parfum is more concentrated parfum so you need only two or three sprays and this one has a longer lasting power.
Eau de Toilette is lighter so a nice option for someone that doesn't like strong perfumes.
Sensuous comes in;
- EDT 50ml at £34.50
- EDT 100ml at £55
- EDP 30ml at £30
- EDP 50ml at £43
- EDP 100ml at £66
- PARFUM 7ml at £66
- Body cream 200ml at £38
- Body lotion 200ml at £30
- Shower cream 200ml at £20
This perfume has a warm rich smell to it. The woodiness and floral scents work very well together. Jasmine, creamy sandlewood, honey, ylang, black pepper, magnolia, molten woods, amber and ghost lily.
Thank you for reading :-)
Its been a while since I came across a perfume as gorgeous as this one. I'm not proud to say I'm a smoker as I am there arent many perfumes I have found that you can actually smell after lighting up. As it is a parfum its highly concerntrated so you don't need to use much to smell it. The smell doesnt disappear after a few hrs - you can smell it on scarfs etc for ages. It a very distinctive smell too and I get compliments everytime I wear it. I try to save it for special occasions but its not easy! Its not the cheapest smell around and I do live on a tight budget but as a real treat to myself I eventually bought some for my birthday. No regrets at all and no guilt pangs. I bought my bottle from an american website. It took a while to arrive but it was free delivery and the cheapest price I have found online.
Group: Oriental woody
~ INTRODUCTION ~
Sensuous is a recent addition to my miniature collection. I was intrigued by the description of the fragrance and that it was classified as an oriental woody scent. Being a lover of woody orientals such as Le Baiser du Dragon, Samsara or Dolce Vita, I was looking forward to a similar, complex but a ligther, summer equivalent of an oriental scent accented with woods.
~ THE PACKAGING ~
The packaging isn't really remarkable or nice for me, sort of like your standard and plain Estee Lauder bottles. The bottle is pale pink, round and flat with a wavy ribbed motif engraved in it. It closes with a plastic cap that matches the colour of the shiny but plain brownish-pink outer packaging.
~ THE FRAGRANCE ~
Top notes: lily, magnolia, jasmine
Spraying out of the bottle, Sensuous immediately releases a mixture of citrusy and creamy floral notes that smell like a blend of orange, jasmine, roses with light hints of amber. These are the classic ingredients of oriental florals, however Sensuous is a very light and breezy composition, and even more so at the beginning. These citrusy and floral notes linger on for about 30 minutes creating a fresh but equally sweet, summery bouquet that's
indeed very far from being oriental or woody in a classic sense.
Middle notes: amber, vanilla
After about a half an hour to an hour depending on temperature, the fragrance turns into a warmer, spicier and more of an that's lost its citrusy opening and is now floral with creamy, vanillic undertones. The sillage reminds me of Armani's Sensi, except Sensuous isn't as sweet and the early appearance of the honey doesn't make it cloyingly sweet. Sensuous is rather a powdery floral with a light sillage. A simple, modern, somehow refreshing and soft composition with a little bit of a soapy edge.
Base notes: pepper, mandarin orange, honey
About 3 - 4 hours later I'm greeted with a lovely, soft powdery finish of subtle woods and spices infused with amber and vanilla. The result is sweet but not overly sweet and is rather an ambery skin scent that stays on for another 2 - 3 hours. I was disappointed how this light eau de parfum only lasted for about 6 - 7 hours though I understand why. Sensuous is a modern oriental woody scent, sparkling and sweet then fades away quickly. There aren't any real woodsy notes in it, it's just a woody impression we're getting here.
~ CONCLUSION ~
Sensuous belongs to a very popular trend, the modern oriental woody category with Sensi, Let it Rock from Vivienne Westwood and some
celebrity fragrances (Halle, Naomi Campbell Mystery), just to name a few which are just shadows of what oriental woody fragrances should really be.
Sensuous is safe, sweet and mostly synthetic. It will likely to appeal to different age groups, however lacking that self-confident, alluring and comfortable feminine statement that oriental woody fragrances used to be about. It is however a nice change from those fruity or citrus punches that invade the fragrance stores in the summer.

Estee Lauder Sensuous perfume is quite new. I have only seen it in stores in the past few months.
The bottle is round and it has a classic Estee Lauder rose gold tinted lid.
It has quite a large spray so when you press down on the nozzle quite a lot comes out. This sells for £32-38.50 for 50ml EDP (Eau De Parfum) and £48-56 for a 100ml bottle.
It has a warm slightly talc-y smell. It remind me of the scratch and sniff pages you get in Avon catalogues (the "this age is fragranced, rub your wrist over this page to experence the scent" pages...). I personally dislike this as I think it appeals to older women- the 38-60 age bracket.
It is the sort of thing I would buy for one of my Aunts. It would make a good Grandmother's birthday present. It has echoes of the 1950s and reminds me of slightly older women with semi rich husbands who go out for meals. Its slightly musky with a lingering smell.
I would definitely not buy this for myself (i'm 29). My husband reckons it smells "nice and floral". Its just not for me.
I received a small sampler bottle of this perfume with the Gift Time offers that were on last month. I was really pleased to get a chance to wear this as I'd already tried a tester spray in my local Debenhams and loved the fragrance.
This perfume comes in a gorgeous ridged bottle which is rounded and heavy with purple test on and the top is a warm gold colour. The perfume looks to have a lovely peach colour to it.
Although it is classed as a woody amber fragrance, don't be put off by thinking this is a heavy perfume, it isn't. It is feminine and elegant, not sweet or sickly, it's kind of floral with a hint of warm woods with citrus overtones.
It has Jasmine, Ghost Lily, Magnolia and Ylang essence with traces of black pepper and creamy sandalwood. You can also smell the honey and mandarin orange pulp which gives it a hint of sweet and fresh citrus.
It is an eau de parfum spray and I find that it does have a good staying power. I spray a little on in the morning and it does linger all day. It's quite pleasant that you catch a lovely waft of it every now and again.
I've had a few people ask me what perfune i'm wearing, it's a nice compliment and being not the usual run of the mill celebrity endorsed perfumes, it's ususual and different which is a good thing (I don't want to smell the same as everyone else!).
The 30ml Eau de Parfum costs around £29.00 from the Estée Lauder website but you may find this cheaper elsewhere.
I absolutely love this fragrance and I'm quite fussy about perfume (having only 2 bottles of Lacoste in my collection). This will be one on my birthday wish list for sure!
I highly recommend trying a tester spray at your local counter!
Sensuous is the new modern fragrance brought to you by Estee Lauder. Renowned world wide for their excellence in cosmetics they also produce some exquisite fragrances. Sensuous is among a catalogue of at least thirty different fragrances.
I currently own a few of their other fragrances but Sensuous is the first fragrance I have requested following receipt of a sample tester after purchasing some of their cosmetics last year. Two samples are usually provided with any purchase and it's usually from the samples I establish an opinion on their new products.
I was very suprised after smelling the tester at just how sexy and feminine the fragrance was. I used the tester on a daily basis just to see how it fared and it did not disappoint. I had used the tester in it's entirity within a week and I felt bitterly disappointed I didn't actually own the fragrance to continue wearing it on a daily basis.
I have few perfumes that I can actually call my favourites. Deciding on a fragrance is a very personal thing and I have over the years only bought three perfumes on a recurring basis. These perfumes are Eternity by Calvin Klein, Tresor by Lancome and Gucci Red by Gucci. Each of these perfumes to me have something in common and that is that they are all very sweet smelling feminine fragrances.
Sensuous is also a very feminine fragrance and to me has the air of citrus to it. Estee Lauder claim it has the rich core of Molten Woods surrounded by mysterious florals, Magnolia, Jasmine and Ghost Lily, with Pepper, Mandarin Orange Pulp and Honey.
I am no perfume expert but I know what I like and this is a keeper. It is not a strong perfume and of of course it's fragrance does smell slightly different on each wearer. It smells very sweet and floral with a hint of woodiness on it's initial spray and after a short while the scent changes and the citrus notes become more apparent. It is the citrus notes for me which make the fragrance. It does not upset the wearer by being too heavy a fragrance and as it is more of a lighter delicate fragrance it is probably more suited for day time use. It doesn't have the best staying power and I have reapplied the perfume in the afternoon which is the only disappointment with this fragrance for me.
I received my new fragrance with my new cosmetics for christmas from my husband so it came beautifully gift boxed. The gift box was all gold with the brand name Estee Lauder lightly embossed on the lid, on further investigation inside the perfume box lay on a bed of white crisp tissue paper and the perfume box itself was in a copper colour way with almost a mirror finish. The branding appeared in the centre of the box on a white back ground inlayed on a purple rectangle and looked very classy and almost antique in style. The bottle itself is quite simple in design, made from clear glass so you can see how much perfume you have left at all times. The front of the bottle feels completely smooth yet the back has embossed grooves which can be viewed through the front of the bottle. The lid is in the same colour way as the box, copper. It is also hexagonal shaped and carries the initials E and L embossed on the top of the lid. The brand name Estee Lauder can be seen in full on the front of the bottle along with the perfume name Sensuous.
Sensuous eau de parfum spray is currently available in three sizes;
30ml eau de parfum spray - £29.36
50ml eau de parfum spray - £41.11
100ml eau de parfum spray - £63.62

I would definately reccommend this perfume to all woman and any men looking for female gift ideas, birthday presents, anniversaries and those just because you care pressies, I like those, not that I get many but I was certainly delighted with this present.
Thanks for reading.
Warm. Luminous. Feminine. A modern definition of sensuality. Confident and elegant. A rich sensuous core of Molten Woods and Amber, surrounded by atmospheric florals, Pepper, Mandarin Orange Pulp and Honey.
