I bought this 100ml Dior Addict eau de parfum a few months ago for £0.00! I got it with my Boots points.
It usually costs £92.50, but I had a £5 off fragrance voucher so it cost me 8750 points, which is the equivalent of £87.50. It had taken me less than a year to save the points up, mainly by spending a fortune at their points event in the summer.
~ Bottle ~
The perfume comes in a tall square shaped bottle made from very dark blue glass. There is a gold coloured band around the top of the bottle and then the words, 'Dior Addict' in small gold letters going up the side above the gold band.
On top of the bottle is a gold knob, for want of a better word, with, 'CD' imprinted on it and you can turn the knob to '0' or '1', '0' to stop the spray from coming out and '1' when you want to spray it.
To spray it you just need to make sure that the knob is turned to '1' and push down on it.
~ Bottle ~
The scent is very strong and sophisticated. It smells expensive!
It is definitely a mature scent and it is very heavy and quite harsh so it will not be to everyone's taste.
It is very rich and dark. It is definitely a night time fragrance and I find you have to be in the mood for it. It is very bold and strong.
It has an almost spicy scent to it. I am not usually a fan of spicy scents, but I really like this! It is described as an oriental-floral fragrance, which is probably a more accurate description.
The top notes are silkwood blossom and mandarin orange.
The heart note is night blooming cereus.
The base note is vanilla.
Despite there being few notes in this fragrance it is still very deep and I don't recall having discovered a fragrance that is so intense.
It can bring on headaches it is so strong. The 100ml bottle is going to last me forever because I only need one or two sprays of this, three maximum and because of its strength it is not one I reach for a lot.
Its lasting power is great, as I suspected it would be judging by its intensity. It lasts on my skin for 12 hours easily.
It is one I prefer to wear as a night time fragrance for going out, but I have worn it through the day.
As the fragrance dries down the vanilla gives a lovely creamy edge to the spicier floral notes. The blend is perfect.
I would recommend this fragrance, but it is essential to try before you buy. It is a bit harsh and I can imagine it is not one that everyone will like.
I think it is better suited to more mature women and I think younger women and teenagers may find it too harsh.
I was bought Dior Addict EDP as a present - I seem to get a lot of perfume for presents, I'm a lucky girl.
I love the design of the bottle, it's a tall, slim, very dark blue, slightly translucent bottle, enough just to see the liquid level inside. 'Dior Addict' is written sideways on the top part of the bottle in raised plastic, very subtle. There's a gold knob on top of the bottle, this can be pressed to spray the perfume and twisted to lock the spray. Makes it perfect to take in a handbag without the worry of a leak. I've transported the perfume before and never had it leak in my bag.
You don't need to press the knob on the top of the bottle very hard to dispense the spray. It's quite a fine spray and I find dispenses just the right amount in one squirt. I feel a second squirt would probably be a little over the top.
This is a very musky perfume with a floral edge, it's evident from the first spray. I'd class it as more of an evening perfume than day to day wear. A fresher smell becomes evident within 15-20 minutes of wearing the perfume I can only describe as fruity, vanilla.
Notes taken from http://www.escentual.com/:
QUEEN OF THE NIGHT FLOWER
So it's quite a simple make up really, but fits together rather well. Dior describe it as 'Oriental, Sensual energy'.
It lasts well, usually across the whole evening. I take it out with me and never end up re-applying.
Widely available in Boots stores and on-line, Amazon and most department stores.
Available in 20ml, 50ml or 100ml. Currently in Boots for £36.50 for 20ml, £65.50 for 50ml, £92.50 for 100ml.
Dior Addict is a perfume that I always seem to keep a bottle of on top of my dressing table. Now that I have my son it isn't one I wear as frequently as I used it as I prefer this perfume for an evening out as I find it a little to heavy to wear during the day.
The cardboard box for this perfume is a pretty iridescent lilac and dark blue with Addict written down the side of the box. The bottle for this perfume is a lovely dark navy blue glass. The spray atomizer is concealed with in this at the top. There is a golden plastic morsel on the top of the bottle this is a bit like a squashed golden globe in my opinion. This golden nugget is pressed down to spray out the perfume and it comes out in a nice fine mist spray. This golden morsel also turns to lock and unlock the atomiser which I personally find a useful bit of packaging as it allows me to carry a small bottle in my bag on a night with out it being pressed and spraying perfume in my bag.
Top notes Mandarin Leaf and Silk Tree Flower
The essence of mandarin leaf is a citrus note and Dior claim this gives it a "fresh and fruity accent". I would have to disagree with them as on first spritzing this perfume and throughout the evening of wearing it I never get any citrus notes at all let alone anything that is "fresh and fruity" The silk tree flower or Mimosa as it is sometimes called is the more dominate smell at first or least this is what I assume is the silk tree flower smell having never seen one in real life. The smell is a sweet smell that reminds me of honeysuckle some how. These notes are quickly gone and in the space of 5 minutes ( just enough time to get dressed in ) the middle notes come in to play
Middle notes Night Queen Flower, Bulgarian Rose and Orange Blossom
The main scent here is not a rose smell or even a blossomy scent but what I have always assumed was the queen of the night flower. The queen of the night flower is a flowering cactus that only opens from night time till dawn and I think for this reason alone it must of being included in this heady night-time scent. The smell I have too say is completely intoxicating and dominates and last for many hours. The smell to me always conjures up memoirs of Brad Pitt in Interview with a Vampire and him in New Orleans. The reason for this is it makes me feel quite sexy and sensuous and I think of the heady days of parties and Mardi Gras in New Orleans and partying the way he did by candle light and the seductive scenes that both him and Tom Cruise indulged in. The marketing campaigns of Dior for this perfume have often feature heavy lidded woman appearing at times to be under the influence of something. These middle notes of the strong oriental flower do seem to hypnotize you.
Base notes Bourbon Absolute, Mysore Sandalwood and Tonka Bean and vanilla
Though all the above scents are mentioned in all the perfume notes fro this fragrance, I don't actually recognize any of the in the base lingering notes. There is for me no sweet vanilla smell or woody sandalwood. The smell that does seem to linger for me alongside the queen of the night is a nutmeg amber smell that is in some ways reminiscent of a woody resin. There are also lingering notes for me here of jasmine with its sweet heady smell. Jasmine is always one of those smells I personally associate with evenings and walking though gardens with arches of these flowering shrubs over head. This again makes me think this perfume was specifically designed for night time wear.
Overall and recommendation
This is a warm sultry scent with strong musky tones the floral within this perfume are definitely oriental in base and are very heavy. I almost would say that the imagines in my mind of this scent are the days of poets such as Bryon and Shelly smoking opium pipes with woman lounging around them as their muses. This perfume I always finds lasts a long time and I tend to find that the scent doesn't really change that much from the middle notes other than the introduction of some jasmine notes. As this perfume is quite a strong and heady scent I think it may not suit people who get migraines associated with smells. Equally I found when I was pregnant the smell of this perfume was just to strong for my sensitive nose and so I stopped wearing it then as I found it made my pregnancy nausea worse. However now that my son is a strapping toddler I can again where this perfume on nights out with my husband or friends. As it is such a warm perfume I think it suits the autumn and winter nights better than say a hot summers nights as I think the sun and warmth would just make the smell to over powering.
A little of this perfume goes a long way as it lasts and lingers so long and I find often that a just a spray on my neck or in my hair is enough for this perfume. I personally find that if I spray this on all my pulse points that it just too strong. I would recommend if you are testing this perfume to only test this one as it is likely to totally over shadow any other perfumes you smell at the same time. It is probably one of those marmite of perfumes really in that you either love it or loath it. As you can tell I am on the love it side.
I would recommend this fragrance to other people who like heady oriental and floral scents. It lasts a long time on the skin and a little goes a long way. As this is more of a going out perfume it will last you a long time unless you are like Posh Spice with a hectic social life. At Around £30 for a 20 ml spray it isn't cheap but it does last a long time and the scent remains the same for up to 3 years once opened so this to my mind represents good value.
In 1946 Christian Dior opened his first store in France, where he focused mainly on designing and selling clothes. He soon became known in Europe so that he dared to start creating perfume and jewelry later on. In everything he tries to show romance and elegance.
The perfume comes in a cardboard box which is rectangular and there is a kind of metallic coating so that the color changes when the light is shining on it. The colors I've seen so far are dark pink, purple, pearl and bright blue. Some say that you only see the colors that best fit that moment but I don't believe this. The glittering effect gives the box a classy and exclusive feeling. Furthermore, there is at the top "Dior Addict" displayed in red letters and at the bottom the amount and that it is an eau de parfum.
The bottle is dark blue. It's dark so that you hardly can see through. On top is a golden key on a small gold disc. On top is a button that you need to turn a quarter to be able to open it and then you can spray perfume. All this looks really refined and gives a feminine look.
Describing this perfume I find very difficult. I'd say it's a sweet oriental floral fragrance. When you spray it seems to be a very sharp smell of tangerine. Hence the oriental. But soon the smell you notice a more sweet floral scent. The composition of the fragrance is made from vanilla, rose, jasmine, mandarin, orange blossom and sandalwood. I have been told that the icing on the cake is that there's a rare flower in Jamaica incorporated to make it more a extra soft and alluring perfume. The perfume seems very strong and heavy in the beginning but after fifteen minutes it becomes a very gentle sweet scent that is certainly not dominant. Also the perfume evaporates very slowly. When I use the perfume in the morning you can smell it even the next morning on your clothes.
This perfume is just for every day. Whether you're at home, at work or on vacation. It's not too overwhelming and is very soft but still noticeable. The perfume is a must for all women. However, the bottle is pretty pricey but that is now almost with every perfume. So I can not say that's a disadvantage. The perfume evaporates very slowly and that is definitely a plus. You can smell the whole day nice with this perfume.
One of the last Dior perfumes I am going to write about is probably one of the first ones I ever purchased but have loved for years, this is Dior Addict. It has since had different takes on the original but I still love the classic scent. I purchased this fragrance while on holiday at first but it is not everyone's cup of tea as I've had a lot of people say to me they find this quite heavy for a girl of my age but I don't care as I don't let people put me off something so easily.
Dior Addict comes in a very nice box it is a hologram tall rectangular shapes box that says Dior Addict and looks really good. It definitely stands out and then by opening the box you will see the dark blue bottle with the gold lid on it. It has Dior Addict engraved into the bottle and it isn't too chunky looking but is easy to hold and is very simple. I do think the box is more exciting than the bottle which does seem a bit plain but I don't let that be a reason for not buying anything.
As soon as you pick the bottle out from the box you can smell it, it's that strong. It has a very strong musky sort of vanilla scent to it, which is quite heavy but at the same time sweet. It is a more mature smelling fragrance definitely and one for the evening without a doubt as in the day it may come across as being overpowering. I think even though this is quite a heavy perfume it has a classic scent almost sophisticated and a smell of expense.
The notes for this fragrance are officially mandarin leaves, night queen, mulberry flower and Bulgarian rose. It then has a sandalwood, tonka bean and bourbon vanilla underlying note which creates a very mixed scent. The mandarin side of the notes does not seem apparent to me at all but the vanilla is very strong as is the sandalwood which gives it that musky sort of heavier scent to it.
The perfume is very distinct and after a few sprays you won't need anymore unless you like to have a really heavy scent on. I always wear this to go out rather than in the day as it makes more of a statement. It always gets people asking what my scent is and always gives me confidence when wearing this. I never need to spray this anymore and I can always smell it on my clothes whenever I have sprayed this as it does linger.
I love this fragrance as on first spray it smells strongly of a woody sort of sweet smell and then on lying on skin for a good few hours it softens to a sweet but lightly spicy sort of smell which I love. This is a perfume I've had over a year and it still seems very full as I haven't had to use too much upon wearing it which is always good. It is an eau de parfum so it does last a lot longer and doesn't require lots of re-spraying which does have a good side.
This perfume being Christian Dior is going to be quite pricey but it is worth the money. It costs £59 for the 50ml at Boots.com and £33 for the 20ml but I don't bother buying small bottles like this as I will use it quickly. It then costs £83 for the 100ml which is quite steep but it'll last you for ages. Supaperfume is a website which is good at offering slightly cheaper prices and free delivery so they are charging £51.70 for the 50ml, £28.99 for the 20ml but these are the only measurements they are selling.
If you want cheap deals as I always recommend check eBay or look out for the gift sets in department stores at this time of year. Boots is always good as you can collect Advantage Card Points at the same time.
If you got to http://www.dior.com you will find more detail on this perfume.
I love the deep, rich scent of this fragrance. It is certainly unique and sumptuous. The scent is not too over powering but is strong enough to last all day. This is one of my favourite fragrances because of its feminine smell which oozes seduction and sex appeal. I would definitely recommend this perfume to anyone wanting to feel gorgeous and sexy.
** Packaging **
This perfume comes in a light coloured, cuboid shaped cardboard box with the name 'Dior Addict' written in pink down the right hand side. The colouring of the packaging is very subtle but the soft pink and blue shades oozed femininity and freshness. The bottle itself is deep blue in colour and is also cuboid shaped. There is a gold handle at the top of the bottle which is more for design than practical purposes. The spray function on the bottle means that this fragrance is easy to apply.
** Scent **
This fragrance is beautifully deep and oaky. Addict portrays the notes of silk tree flower, night queen flower, bourbon vanilla, sandalwood and tonka bean which all work well together to create a beautifully balanced, seductive yet feminine fragrance.
** Price **
The price tag is a little hefty but the scent is so lovely that I personally think that it is not too overpriced. The scent will also last all day meaning that the bottle will last you a long time. I love my perfumes and go a little overboard on the spraying side of things, and this perfume has lasted me a good 6 months.
This fragrance is available to buy from the following retailers:
Amazon 20ml - £38.95
House of Fraser 100ml - £83.00
The PerfumeSuperstore 100ml - £48.99
Perfume Emporium 100ml - £53.63
Boots 100ml - £83.00
** My Opinion **
I think this scent is a little too heavy for summer as it is quite oaky and deep, but I would definitely recommend this for those winter months where your spirits need a little lift. A perfect accessory for that Christmas party outfit!
This is my current favourite perfume, I'm a fan of strong scents, being a smoker, and this fits the bill perfectly. I constantly get asked what perfume I'm wearing - in a good way - and thats not something to be sniffed at. Pardon the pun!
Its ridiculously expensive so although it is available in most department stores I tend to get mine via Duty Free.
The first thing that caught me eye about this product was the stunning packaging. It comes in a beautiful hologram effect box and then when you open it the bottle is just gorgeous, a deep slightly see through navy blue glass in a rectangular shape with a gold top bearing the CD logo and which can be turned left or right to dispense perfume or close. The words "Dior Addict" are also emblazoned in gold up the side of the bottle. the perfume dispenses with a faily standard pump action spray. Say what you like about the vanity of choosing a perfume for the packaging but I do like something pretty on my dressing table.
The perfume is strong and sweet smelling, almost too strong when first applied though it settles quickly. Its an oriental scent with floral notes, very sensual and deep without being overpowering or sickly. It lasts well, being an eau de parfum, so you really only need a spritz in the morning and it lasts all day.
Strong, sexy, oriental. Long lasting. Stunning packaging.
What's that smell?
I get asked this on random places. Trains, lifts, work.
Not in a 'jesus, get some deodrant' way, mind you, (at least, they cover it up by asking what it is and where they can get it.)
I fell for Dior thanks to their packaging, clever marketing and finally the scent.
I think perfume is the hardest thing to review, as it's all personal. Whilst anais anais makes me want to grab a bucket, quickly, my Mum hates Dior, claiming it smell like 'Poision' a scent that floated around in the 1980's as far as I can tell.
This is pretty pungent, but, as a smoker, I lose any scent the moment I spark up, Dior is perfect for all day wearing.
Sexy, long lasting, fruity with a hint of musky niceness, this has hints of vanillla, it works through any season. Warm and comforting during autumn and winter, summery and floral hints smelling fab in summer.
Expensive, but beautiful, and a great purchase for a touch of luxury.
Dior Addict was released in 2002, and I finally tried it a couple of years after in a gift set with a matching body lotion.
The bottle is a midnight blue glass cylinder with a gold spray mecahnism, and I had the 20ml Eau de Parfum.
I had never had a Dior fragrance before but itis a ubiquitous brand that seems to be coveted by many of my friends, I think I had this particular fragrance as a gift. I got through the first bottle quickly and a second bottle is actually still half full at the momnet, not sure how long I have had it in for must be a few years!!
It is predominiantly floral and oriental, floriental if you will, developed by perfumer Thierry Wasser.
Its notes include mandarin leaf, silk tree flower; Queen of the Night flower (night-blooming cereus), rose, jasmine, orange blossom, bourbon vanilla absolute, Mysore sandalwood and tonka bean.
Initially, there is a burst of jasmine which is quite heady, orange blossom and extremely deep and heavy, rich vanilla notes, but left to settle on the skin for a few minutes, the sandalwood and tonka bean base notes balance out to an extremely warming scent on the skin.
This is a deep, dark, sensual, smoky and spicy towards the end scent that is for me only just wearable no matter how much I love it, more than 2 sprays is too much, one spritz is a nice amount or else you may find people recoiling all around you - it is seriously strong.
I cannot describe how long lasting this is, the scent stays for absolutely hours and hours, barely changing after the initial half an hours wear, it is very stable and very long lasting. I doubt reapplication needs to be done in the day. And yes - I think this can be worn in the day as well as the night tije, the general consensus is that it is an evening perfume but the floral element keeps it only just suitable for within the day time.
This perfume qould be absolutely amazing to wear on a date I think if I were still a singleton this would be a weapon of choice, it is an intriguing smell which begs to be gotten closer to.
I have yet to find a perfume that is so sensual and heady, I just wish it was more wearable on me because I love the smell, I just somehow doesnt suit the kind of person I am, it is a bit too serious for me as I prefer slightly more lighter and fun scents.
I am sure that this perfume will split opinion and will love or hate it.
PS the body lotion in the set was equally as intense and lovely.
In summary =
Hugely long lasting
No more than one or 2 sprays as it will leave a mushroom cloud above and around you :)
Would recommend for 20 somethings and over
You may need to go into rehab for this one....I give 9 out of 10 for its uniqueness and longevity.
Dior Addict was released back in 2002 when I was studying in France, and was a ubiquitous fragrance which will always remind me of my time there. I had smelled the scent a lot on various glamorous French women - lecturers, students, waitresses and women passing in the street and it is a very compelling and memorable scent, but it was a while before I realised what it was. When I did find out, I also saw the price tag and being a poor student could not afford to buy myself any (I had 70 cent wine to buy after all!), but when my birthday came around my fellow Erasmus girls had clubbed together and bought me a bottle.
Dior Addict comes in a glass square cylinder bottle (is there a word for a square cylinder?), which looks black until you hold it to the light and see that it's actually a really deep blue. The words 'Dior Addict' appear as a raised inscription towards the top of the bottle and there's a gold coloured 'knob' on the top which you press to squirt the perfume - this can be turned to be 'open' or 'closed'. It's a bit of an uninspiring bottle - more functional than pretty, but this perhaps goes with the raw, sensual image portrayed by the ad campaign. I'm not too keen on the open and close function I have to say as it reminds me of a bathroom cleaner or similar which is where you would normally find this.
According to the blurb, "Addict by Christian Dior indulges the senses with sumptuous silk tree flower, voluptuous night queen flower and luscious bourbon vanilla combined with sandalwood and tonka bean" and "evokes a feeling of passion in the woman who wears it". Well I can't say I can pick out the vanilla or sandalwood notes, and I wouldn't have a clue what silk tree flower, night queen flower or tonka beans (!) would even smell like, but for me the scent is very rich and heavy, a musky scent rather than a light fresh fruity or floral one.
I used to love the strong scent of this fragrance and the fact that I could smell it on myself, whereas lots of perfumes seem to disappear instantly although you know other people can smell them. I used up my first bottle and never bought it again for a while, but about a year ago I decided to rekindle my love affair with Dior Addict. I bought a 20ml bottle and this remains half full, and I think this tells you everything you need to know about how my tastes have changed over the last 5 years.
Now, I find the strong scent way to overpowering to wear for anything other than a night out in winter - too strong for daytime and too strong for summer. The fact that I can smell it on myself for a while makes me feel quite nauseous and sick, almost as though there is a cloud of it following me around, and I actually find that after a couple of hours it has all but disappeared anyway - as though it's all or nothing with this scent. I no longer think of this scent as young, raucous and lively, now it smells quite ageing to me.
Dior Addict retails at around £30 for 20ml online, though I can't find it on the Boots website and a lot of others seem to be out of stock, so I wonder whether it's a product Dior are scaling back?
I'll try to use up the bottle I have but I can't imagine buying it again. For an alternative heavier fragrance which wont' have you heaving, I'd highly recommend Ange ou Demon by Givenchy.
Dior Addict is a very sexy and sumptuous fragrance. It reminds me of satin and velvet. It is one of those smells that you will either love or hate. It has a very strong vanilla smell with musty undertones of sandalwood and berries.
The packaging is very attractive. The box is a pearly, iridescent pink colour which changes in the light as it is made out of a sort of holographic material. It reminds me of the way that oil looks in a puddle. The words Dior Addict are written up the side of the box in dark pink lettering. The bottle itself is very simple with strong clean lines. It is a rectangular shape and made from dark blue glass. The colouring of the bottle adds to the sexy sensual feel. The dispenser is gold and circular with a sort of childproof cap which points in different directions for on and off. I don't particularly like the on and off idea it reminds me of a kitchen or bathroom bleach spray.
The scent itself combines a strong musty vanilla with citrus mandarin and orange notes. There is an underlying woody and slightly peppery edge to the perfume. Dior Addict is a very distinct scent and one which I can always recognise when people are wearing. It is very strong at first and may be too overpowering for some people but I think it gets nicer over time. After a couple of hours the scent is absolutely divine. It is very long lasting and can still be smelt on your clothes days after.
Dior Addict is a sexy evening scent. There is something glamorous about it yet at the same time something trashy, where the trashiness is due to the advertising and the shiny pink box I'm not sure. It should be worn lightly rather than being liberally piled on and would make an excellent signature scent.
I love this perfume! I got this as part of a Christian Dior box set about five years ago. I usually wear Diors J'Adore - my favourite perfume of all time because it was both a day and a night scent, and I think this one is very similar, although I personally wore it more on a night out than at work - I didn't want the gorgeous smell to be associated with work! The first time I smelled this, it blew me away (in a good way!). Its such a sexy, sensual scent, and like others who have left reviews, people were always commenting on how good I smelled. Unlike some other Dior perfumes, like Poison, its not over powering or sickening. Dior Addict is soft and feminine, with floral and vanilla notes, and is also quite sweet, but not sickly, as I said before. Being quite a sexual scent, I don't think it would be suitable for younger girls. I can't say enough about this perfume, I love it! x
This is currently my perfume of choice and given that a 50ml bottle will set you back £43 it is in the mid range as far as price goes however it has a lovely scent and the smell is very long lasting as well.
Dior Addict is made by Christian Dior and it comes in a slim blue bottle and is very well designed and stylish, a sort of simple chic look. For me this is a perfume to wear on an evening out, it is rather musky but not at all cloying or oppresive. It is a heavy scent and not something tht will blend in with other scents but when out I like to make a statement and it is suitable for parties, clubs or even a restaurant date. The dominant smel for me is that of vanilla which is a smell I really do like and I find that it hangs around a bit as I can still smell it on myself after a night out.
If you are more into the floral scents then this might not be for you, I prefer floral scents for daytime use while this one is ideal for a night out especially if you are looking to impress.
The packaging is cool and functional and I find that I do not need to us very much at all to get the desired effect. Certainly a great scent from Christian Dior.
Over the past few years, family friends and my boyfriend have tended to buy me "Pure Poison" by Christian Dior under the impression that it was my favourite perfume of all time. It was - up until about six months ago where I wore it so much that the thought of wearing it once again for an evening out was just annoying! I loved the sexy smell, and I had one more bottle lined up still in its wrapper come this Christmas. It had got to a point where I couldn't stand the smell any longer, and I was desperate for a new perfume!
Determined to set the record straight with anyone who dared to buy me perfume again for Christmas, I went out for a smelling session in boots to work out my new fragrance. Maybe I would avoid Dior....? Nope. Smelling this scent has made me fall in love with Dior fragrances all over again. I immediately told my mum that she could buy me either Dior Addict or Dior Shine as they both smelt wonderful. Come Christmas day, I had a lovely new bottle of Dior Addict to keep me smelling Dior perfect....
Not the best design in the world, my bottle is a slim blue column, "Dior Addict" is written discreetly on the tip of the bottle and it has a gold coloured round pump on the top. Very basic, very functional to use, but not as girly as their other designs. Perhaps it is more classic. Either way, it doesn't take up too much room on my dressing table, (it's just a 50ml spray bottle) but it doesn't look as attractive as my other perfume bottles either! The packaging which the bottle comes in however, is much more attractive, it has that pure poison silver shiny-ness about it. Sadly, this is a waste of resources and the box always gets chucked in the recycling bin, not even shiny cardboard will make me keep it!
The Scent Test
Gorgeous. I've come to associate Dior fragrances with sexy, musky tones, perfect for the evenings and this one delivers just as Pure Poison delivered for me years ago when I started wearing it. I've never been a huge fan of floral fragrances (although I do own a bottle of Ralf Lauren Romance which I love for the daytime) so the musky heavy scents are definitely a firm favourite.
Having said that, Dior's website mentions that the top notes of this scent are mandarin, a citrus note which should give off a fruity floral vibe. I cannot really say this is what I would associate with this perfume.
However, the Base scent is Vanilla, and this is what you really smell when getting a waft of this fragrance. It's much sweeter than the mandarin scent, and it smells rich and musky (not in an old man musky way if you are thinking that!). I don't think Vanilla is a scent that blends in to the background and this scent stays on my skin a long while. Four hours after I first applied this to my wrists and neck, I can still smell it and my colleagues are always complimenting me on it - this might be because it's been a long time since I have worn a different fragrance!
The Dior website also describes this perfume as an oriental scent which I can agree with, it has a certain spiciness that makes it perfect for winter evenings out. Perhaps not one to wear during the day - firstly it's too good to waste for everyday wear to work but secondly, it is quite overpowering. It is probably a scent that is too overpowering for some and probably shouldn't be bought as a gift for someone who hasn't tried it on their own skin before, it's fairly strong and I would imagine you would either love it or hate it!
Personally, I'm a huge fan, and once again, Dior has kept me in their customer lists when it comes to fragrances. A beautiful, sweet evening scent which I just adore. I'll buy it again that's for certain!
** Dior Addict (50ML) Bottle sells from between £38-£44 **
This has to be my most favourite Dior frangrance.
It is quite strong so I don't tend to wear it everyday. I tend to keep it for those special ocassions when going out to dinner or my birthday. I also find that I don't have to reapply during the evening as it is still quite strong. The scent is a heavy spiced scent rather than a heady floral scent.
It conjures up very sultry and intense pictures in your head of red wine or liquorice it is of that strength and quality.
The bottle is very simple and classy being of a dark blue glass, so it would look good on any dressing table. Because the glass is dark it should keep the perfum in good condition. However I do tend to keep all my perfumes in the boxes they came in so I can't be 100% that it would keep the perfume well.
I have only tried the parfum spray so it may be that weaker versions are available.
