I like to treat myself on holiday to a bottle of duty free perfume which comes out of my holiday
spending money. On our last trip, both my partner and I decided to splash out on a new perfume.
He took a shining to this straight away as it was a recently brought out addition to the Calvin Klein
family. The advertising campaign was highly effective as they used an actor from True Blood to
advertise it. In the duty free shop there was a massive poster of Eric (for those who do not know, Eric
is a hot to trot vampire from True Blood and if you don't know him, then you should do!) looking all
mean and moody advertising this scent. The name "Encounter" seems to suggest that you leave an
impression on people with your fragrance... rather like how a vampire leaves an impression on you
with his teeth!
==Price and availability==
The bottle comes in the 30ml, 50ml and 100ml size and at duty free prices it cost us around £27 for
a 30ml bottle. You can also get the fragrance as part of a set, with items for the face and body also available.
The bottle is made from blue heavy set glass. It looks like a bottle of aftershave because of the choice of colour used. The bottle has a pull of lid which reveals the nozzle which is silver. The bottle is stylish and even all the products that go with the range look just as sophisticated. There was a lovely set of EDT with a face lotion but we only bought the fragrance on its own.
The fragrance comes across as very modern and refreshing. It is very masculine and really cannot be mistaken for a female EDT. Some perfumes are unisex these days and rightly so; but this is definitely a fragrance for a modern man. It is warming, oriental and rugged. It is one of those scents that make your man smell really clean and delicious like you want to just eat him up!
Now, the complex blend features many different notes, however the overall finished product is oriental, wooded and alcoholic. Deep rum notes are mixed with citrus bursts. The heart is jasmine and patchouli with the wooded atlas cedar giving the fragrance a really strong, warming richness. The perfume is powerful and very clean smelling; it is moreish and I enjoy smelling it.
This is a great masculine fragrance and my partner loves it. It does not last long though and after a few hours it fades to nothing. I have never rated Calvin Klein for how long their perfumes last and this is no exception. Nice finished product though.
I received this new fragrance as one of my Christmas presents this year. I usually get an eau de toilette gift set every Christmas and like to try new ones all the time. I have often gone on to purchase the fragrances a second time when someone has done well in getting me a really nice fragrance. I was in Boots doing a bit of Christmas shopping and after finding what my Mother wanted for Christmas I pointed this out to her as something that I would like. It was of course Calvin Klein's new fragrance which is called "Encounter". I have owned quite a few Calvin Klein fragrances and a good experience with a previous fragrance has often led to getting a new fragrance from the same brand in the future.
This fragrance was released in September 2012 and was developed by Firmenich perfumers Honorine Blanc and Pierre Negrin. The fragrance is available in the usual 30, 50 and 100 ml Eau de Toilette bottles. You can also find the shower gel which you can get with the gift set which includes a 30ml bottle of the eau de toilette. This is the one that I received and was available in Boots for £19.99. This was an appealing price for the fragrance and was one of the reasons I asked for this particular fragrance. Actor Alexander Skarsgard was chosen to be the face of the campaign.
Mandarin, Cardamom, Rum
The top notes offer up a nice blend of fruit and spices to get things off to an appealing and enticing start. These notes last for a good two to three hours before blending into the middle notes which continue the fragrance with a similar style of scent.
Jasmine, Cognac, Pepper
The middle notes are again spicy and sharp. The interesting addition of cognac adds to the opening inclusion of Rum from the top notes. This gives the fragrance a distinctive feel which is part of the appeal of the fragrance. The middle notes last another two to three hours before the base notes.
Oud, Musk, Cedar
These notes end the fragrance with a heavier yet subtle tone which has a sharp musky feel that also has a woody tone to it. These notes end the fragrance well and give this fruity, woody fragrance a nice end. The fragrance will fade after three hours or so.
I was very impressed with this fragrance, It's a nice scent which lasts fairly well and will appeal to the younger male yet with a wider age range than many fragrances. It's a fragrance that I would certainly consider buying in the future as I really like the scent and you can find some good deals on the fragrance. Like with any fragrance it's worth trying a sample in the Store before you buy so you can get a better idea of how it feels on the skin and how the scent changes over the day. This is an excellent fragrance which further enhances my view of Calvin Klein fragrances of which I have owned several.
