I had Avon's Celebre perfume when I was a teenager and I had seen it regularly in the Avon brochure and as I had liked it around 10 years ago I fancied giving it another go, but never got round to ordering it.
Recently, browsing through Avon's sale brochure there was an offer where if you spent £5.00 in the sale brochure you could get this perfume for just £2.50 for the 50ml full size eau de toilette (usual brochure price is £13.00).
I had intended to spend more than £5.00 in the sale brochure anyway, so I was pleased to take up this offer.
~ Bottle ~
The bottle comes in a light pink card box as I had remembered my previous bottle came in.
The bottle is made from clear glass and is tall and slim. The design is rather plain. The word, 'Celebre' is in pink lettering across the front of the bottle.
The lid is made from gold coloured plastic and there is clear pink plastic over the top of the spray release.
I wasn't impressed to see that the bottle has space for 2 more centimetres of fragrance in the top so it looks like it could have already been used, which isn't great if you have bought it as a gift.
~ Scent ~
Celebre is light, fresh and floral.
It has top notes of cyclamen, fruity notes and pepper.
The heart notes are peony, freesia, jasmine, white magnolia and lily of the valley.
The base notes are sandalwood and cedar.
The scent is very white and floral and I can detect the pepper in this scent as well, which gives the fragrance an edge. The woody notes in the base are very subtle.
I can't really detect any fruity notes in this fragrance.
I really like this fragrance.
I was quite disappointed to find that it was an eau de toilette as most of Avon's fragrances are eau de parfums and I expected that this wouldn't have very good staying power as I couldn't remember from back in my teens.
I have been quite impressed that this fragrance is still detectable on my skin 6 hours after application, which isn't bad for an EDT.
It is definitely a fragrance I would choose for day time wear rather than for nights out or special occasions, but it is really nice. It is very feminine.
I would definitely buy this fragrance again especially if it was available for just £2.50. It is a perfect blend of fresh white florals, light woody notes and pepper. I think the pepper really makes this fragrance. You may expect it to be harsh, but it really complements the white florals to make a lovely fragrance.
I would recommend this eau de toilette, especially if you can get it on offer.
The scent would receive 5 stars, but the fact that the bottle was not full to the top and the bottle is fairly plain looking I will only award this 4 dooyoo stars!
I really like Avon and am always getting something or other out of the catalogue when I am given one to have a look through. The only thing that I'm not very keen on is their perfumes as although there have been a couple of decent ones most of them are just not very nice and smell cheap.
I was given a bottle of Celebre from my sister who had in return received it from her mother in law. It came in a bag with some other items she didn't want and never one to turn down a freebie I snapped it up.
I found that when I first sprayed this on that it coated me in a cloud of overpowering fragrance that smelt really potent and somewhat artificial smelling. It actually hit my nose and made me sneeze which is never a good sign when it comes to perfumes.
It did calm down really quickly however and became much lighter and less offensive. In fact I would go so far as to say that it became sort of bland and non-descript after the first 20 minutes or so. It has a light flowery scent to it which really is just a bit blah and not very exciting.
It smells a bit like a nice air freshener or a scented candle rather than a perfume and I actually ended up using it as that rather than continue to wear it on myself. I used to spray it round the house as it was much more suited to this than for me to wear.
It isn't a horrible perfume by any means but I have much nicer ones that I didn't really want to wear something that I thought was just so bland and boring when I could be wearing something much better.
This costs £11 for a bottle so it isn't too expensive but I would personally just go to the Body Shop and pick up one of their perfumes for near enough the same price which I think are better quality and much more distinctive than this one.
===Why I Bought This===
I like browsing through the Avon catalogues and ordering different items to try. I have had this perfume a few years ago and decided to retry it.
Avon is a long established direct selling network which used to sell just door-to-door but you can order directly from their website these days if you do not have a local representative handy.
Avon has 18 different brochures issued throughout the year - or their stock can be viewed online.
'Celebre by Avon is a Floral Fruity fragrance for women. Top notes are cyclamen, fruity notes and pepper; middle notes are peony, freesia, jasmine, white magnolia and lily-of-the-valley; base notes are sandalwood and cedar.' (Fragrantica.com)
Comes in a pink printed box with diffused images of flowers.
Eau de toilette, 50 mls and made in Poland.
75% alcohol denat, flammable.
The bottle is made of clear glass and is slightly bulbous.
The perfume itself is a very pale pink.
The spray nozzle is covered with a gold cap which has a clear pale pink plastic dome in its centre.
Price is £11 but on offer as 2 for £13.
The Avon website states - 'A lively, feminine scent. An uplifting blend of waterfruits, flowers and woody notes. Fruity, floral.'
This perfume has now been sold by Avon for quite a few years.
The box, being in delicate shades of pink, gives a good impression of what the perfume will be like.
So inside the pretty box is a curvy smooth bottle with an unusual cap with a plastic insert.
The perfume itself is light, floral and refreshing - and I would call it 'pink' - if you see what I mean - it is feminine and flowery.
This is an inoffensive fragrance that most women would like. It is light enough for all day wear, not overpowering in any way and could be worn for work or going out.
It gives you a good reasonably long last fragrance that, although giving a nice aroma, is not too strong or heavy in any way. Being an eau de toilette is is less strong than an eau de perfum.
The sort of perfume you could give as a gift and would be pretty sure it would be acceptable.
Too expensive at full price but with Avon you can very often pick it up on offer Or at half price.
Worth a try as you can always return it under Avon's guarantee if you find its not for you.
