“ Manufacturer: McDougalls / Type: Pies „
I keep saying in my reviews that I don't eat all that many pies, but I've found myself reviewing LOADS of them just lately! lol It's not that I eat shedloads of them but recently my mum has been buying different brands to try and this week she got McDougalls Minced Beef And Onion Pies. The box you can see in the photo Dooyoo have got up is a box of 4 but they also come in boxes of 2 which is what we got. I was quite happy with the pies, they was only cheap and cost about £1.00 for the 2 but they're better than a lot of more expensive pies we've eaten. They take about 20 mins to cook and I deffo recommend you keep an eye on them while they're in the oven because on ours the top started burning before the middle of the pie was cooked so I had to move them down to the middle shelf in the oven. The filling is yummy, it's got a very rich beefy gravy and there is loads of minced beef inside. In the pie I had I didn't have any gristly bits of meat or anything like that and it was all cooked tender and nice, there are a few peas and little bits of carrot in the pie and they're cooked nice but there isn't really enough for you to be able to taste the vegetables much. There's a nice onion flavour to the gravy but not that many pieces of onion inside the pie, they use onion powder and that must be what gives it the nice flavour but without a load of bits of stringy onion..... and that's fine for me because even though I LOVE the taste of onion I think sometimes in pie loads of bits of onion can spoil the meaty flavour of it. The pastry is perfect, like I said mine started burning but that was only on the edges because I rescued it just in time. It's got a lovely buttery texture and melts in your mouth, I love the bottom piece of pastry on these pies because the gravy goes into the pastry soooooo nice and that makes it proper nice to eat. Recommended..... wicked pies, I'll deffo buy them again and will look out for other flavours of McDougalls pies!!!
