If you have a computer or a laptop then chances are that you own at least one USB stick. Most people just go out and buy the cheapest one they see but there a few things you need to look out for, like size, speed and what it is compatible with.
This is a very small USB stick, both physical and memory wise.
Being this small makes it ideal as you don't need any room to store it and it will fit in your pocket. But obviously being the size it is, it can get lost rather easily.
It has 2GB of memory which is all you need if you only use it to store things like word documents and small excel spreadsheets, but if it is for something bigger like applications, a bigger one may be needed, or you can buy an external hard drive. But external hard drivers are much bigger and won't fit in your pocket, but they do have much bigger memory.
USB sticks are easy to use, simply plug it in to your computer or laptop using one of the USB drives, it may install some software which will take a few seconds are its ready to use.
Simply drag and drop your files onto the memory stick or drag and drop files from the memory stick to your computer.
Most USB sticks come with security features, which this one does.
They are simple programs that you can set up to ask for a password when it is plugged in, which is good because if you loose it, no one can gain access to it, but these can be hacked quite easily. You can download better ones from the internet that you can use.
This is a very good USB stick and is all you need if it is for storing small amounts of information.
The one thing that annoys me about it is that the cap can sometimes fall off quite easily.
Most people will already own one of these and if not then really you must go out and buy one.
The memory stick utilises flash memory so there are no moving parts involved, (less things to go wrong) in fact I have never had a flash drive go wrong on me yet (touch wood). They work in several ways, firstly as a backup device, simply plug into a USB port, wait a few seconds and its installed, the whole point of USB flash drives is that they are plug and play. Anything you want to save onto the device simply drag and drop.
Secondly they can be used as a "speed boost" if your virtual memory is running low, when you connect the device a menu appears asking what you want to do, simply go to speed boost and it allocates more virtual memory to help speed up the machine. (Not to the same standard as RAM though)
Data can be easily removed from the device as well, just connect to a computer and either right click on the drive in "My Computer" and go to format, (this will delete everything) or open the drive by double clicking and delete files individually.
They are PC and Mac compatable although they made need formatting for a Mac first depending on the device but with the Lexar they come pre-formatted.
Overall a must have device, they are so small and light weight you won't even realise you're carrying one, they have a space on the cap to put onto a key ring or chain BUT the cap can come off meaning you will drop the USB device so be careful, that is really the only drawback I have about this device.
