My Husband has been on a bit of a health kick for the past year or so and has been trying to build his muscles up at the gym, part of the muscle building process involves consuming extra protein to aid muscle recovery. For this reason we now have five drinks shakers for the purpose of making and drinking protein shakes. Two of the shakers are Lucozade Sport branded.
I purchased the Lucozade shakers from amazon.co.uk for a few pounds each; they now cost £3.49 plus £2.49 delivery.
~*~* What does it look like? *~*~
The shaker is made of frosted clear plastic and is massively branded with the Lucozade Sports log. The shaker is marked up one side from 50ml to 700ml. The shaker is larger than a pint glass and has two smooth sides to aid grip.
The blue lid is a screw top and shaped a bit like an ice cream swirl, with a pop off cap over the drinking spout that is attached to the lid by a large plastic strap. The drinking spout stands proud of the lid.
Inside the shaker is a plastic mesh panel with a pointy bit in the middle so you can lift the mesh panel out for cleaning and filling purposes.
~*~* How to use, and is it any good? *~*~
To make a protein shake a pour the required amount of skimmed milk into the shaker using the measurements on the side, I then add two scoops of protein powder. The mesh panel needs placing into the top of the shaker and then the lid is screwed down tightly and then I make sure the spout is closed. Then I shake the shaker, a lot. I find that when I use the shaker this way it is quite useless, the resulting shake still has powdery lumps in it and no amount of shaking will get rid of them, also this way of using the shaker means no extra's like banana can be added to the shake.
My preferred method is to use a blender to mix the shake and then pour the shake into the shaker. This works well, then the plastic mesh panel filters out any remaining lumps and a quick shake while drinking keeps the protein shake thoroughly blended together.
When drinking the spout delivers a good flow of fluid, although the plastic strap that attaches the cap over the spout does have a tendency to poke me and my husband in the head when we drink out of these. We hold the strap down against the side of the shaker to prevent this.
I find the protein shaker is not very good for making a protein drink but it is good for drinking the drink out of and transporting the drink around with you. The shaker can not be used for long term protein shake storage as a protein shake needs drinking within twenty minutes of making because the protein starts to deteriorate after this point. Also the lid is not air tight so the shaker needs keeping up right.
The shakers are also good for having cold drinks in during the summer as you can fit a massive amount of ice in with the fruit juice. The lid and sealable drinking spout mean no nasty wasps or flies can nose dive into your drink while down the garden.
For the price paid I find the shakers no better than the many cheaper alternatives. So I award it 4 stars as I feel it is over priced but still a good product.
Thank you for reading.
I started juicing earlier in the year and after reading quite a lot of articles on the subject I decided to buy a few natural supplements such as wheat grass and spirulina for extra nutrition.
These come in powder form and I found it quite difficult to stir them into my juice as the powder would go lumpy and settle at the top no matter how much I stirred! I decided to buy a cheap shaker bottle and after a quick browse on Amazon I settled on this one, mainly because I am familiar with the Lucozade brand, plus it was pretty cheap at £6.00 with free delivery. As well as Amazon it is available from a wide range of shops including various supermarkets and sports shops. Prices vary and the retail price varies between five and seven pounds.
The bottle is marketed as being 'ideal for mixing your powdered drinks'. I am sure that most people who buy these use them to mix up protein powder but I find it incredibly handy for mixing up my supplements. As far as I know there is only one size available - 750ml. I personally find this a little too large as my juices are always 500ml but this isn't really an issue and the generous size will be an advantage for most people. The bottle is quite ugly in appearence to be honest (in my opinion) and it reminds me of the cheap sort of drinks bottle that I had back at school when I did p.e!
It is quite masculine in design as it is bulky with a frosted white and blue colour scheme, but to be fair it is only a drink bottle so the appearence isn't particularly important! The bottle is made from a durable but lightweight plastic and it is quite tall and bulky. It is rounded and easy to grip and I especially like that it has a little handle on the lid. I assumed at first that this was to grip while I was shaking it but I find it easier to grip the bottle as I worry that the lid might come off when I am shaking it like crazy as the handle isn't made of the most durable plastic.
The lid screws on and off and I find that it can be quite awkward to open after I've tightened it up and on a few ocassions I've had to run it under hot water to get it off as even my boyfriend wasn't able to unscrew it. I usually make a fresh juice and drink it in the mornings but just lately I've been making banana and date soy smoothies with wheat grass to drink after my gym sessions. I like that it has measurements on the side as I am able to save on washing up rather than having to use a measuring jug as well as the bottle. I was a little worried about putting this bottle in my gym bag at first but I've not had any problems with it leaking or anything.
Using the shaker is quick and easy and it takes very little time for the powder to be completely mixed into my drink. I usually shake it for around a minute and you can easily tell when it's all mixed up because there's no powder on the sides or bottom of the bottle. It leaves my drink nice and smooth with no lumps of powder left in it and it also leaves my soy smoothies nice and creamy in texture and frothy. Drinking from the bottle can be a bit tricky when it is completely full as it gets quite heavy but the mouth piece is a good size and it can be securely closed when I have finished taking a sip. The bottle is dishwasher safe but I wash it by hand and the plastic sieve which gets rid of lumps in the drink is easy to clean as well.
Overall this bottle is a quick, cheap and mess-free way to shake up my juices and smoothies and I recommend it.
Over the past year I've become more and more interested in health and fitness, and have developed a series of workouts and routines that I fit into my weekly schedule to keep my body in good shape and conditioned. I've always been tall and skinny and never really paid too much attention to my diet, but as I've done more research into the matter I've now started to incorporate supplements into my daily diet. The easiest way for me to do this is to use a protein powder supplement, and I have been trying various types to gauge the results I get. One essential item that I needed was a good mixer bottle, and the first one I tried was this Sport Shaker Bottle from the Lucozade brand, which I purchased from www.amazon.co.uk for around £3.50.
Product description: "Ideal for mixing your powdered drinks. Quick and easy way to keep you fuelled."
This particular shaker bottle is part of the Lucozade Sport range of products. Being new to all of this when I made my purchase, I wasn't really sure of what I needed and went for the one which was the lowest price. This shaker design is quite bulky, which means that I have a bit of trouble reaching my hand round the majority of the body of the bottle to get a good firm grip on it, which is essential to then shake it around vigorously to mix the drink up. I struggle a bit as this makes it more difficult to hold onto, and in turn makes it harder for me to shake the bottle properly to mix up my drinks and I have to shake the bottle for at least double the normal time to get my drinks fully mixed. Because of this slightly larger size it means that it holds a higher volume than other alternatives and has a maximum recommended capacity of 700mls. You do not want to overfill the bottle if you're using it to mix a drink as this would cause problems with the powder not being able to mix properly, and this provides more than adequate levels for any supplement drinks that I prepare, as well as being handy to take with me to the gym for just drinking water as I have to refill it less frequently.
The shaker is pretty standard but it has all the necessary features that make it a functional and essential piece of equipment. The main body of the bottle has clear markers to show the volume in millilitres and fluid ounces, with lines across to give a really clear indication of the level. The lid is quite large and has a flip-back cap that covers the lip of the bottle, which again is quite large. The lid is made of a blue coloured plastic and overall it looks quite masculine. Inside, there is a circular mesh grid that sits on a little ledge that keeps it firmly in place, and this has a small point protruding from it so you can grab hold and pull it out when you need to clean the bottle up.
My main issue with this shaker is that the lid does not always seem to fit back into place properly. It screws on top of the main bottle and I often find that it is really hard to line it up in the correct position, and more often than not it ends up at a funny angle and doesn't fit back on properly. I've also noticed that even when it is properly fastened there have been some problems with the liquid inside spilling or leaking, mainly when I'm shaking the bottle to mix the drink in the first place, so this is something I can quickly deal with to avoid making more mess than necessary, but it is unreliable and I would not feel overly confident to keep it stored in my gym bag unless I had first wrapped it up in a carrier bag or something to keep it safely away from my other items.
The 700ml size is more than enough for me to mix up a protein drink and the grid works effectively to combine the powder with either water or milk. I sometimes add additional ingredients to the drink for the nutritional benefit, or just to alter the flavour to my liking, and the shaker is capable of mixing in other things such as spices, vitamin powders, and even raw eggs, ensuring everything is thoroughly combined. The mesh grid agitates the combined ingredients and makes light work of what would otherwise be a time-consuming chore, although it does usually get coated and quite messy. As an added bonus, the shaker helps to get a nice frothy effect when using with milk, and this creates a nice thick texture which is really tasty and enjoyable. This was particularly appreciated when I first started trying powder-based drinks, as I was using the Slim-Fast brand which is very plain and lacking in flavour, so the creaminess of the frothy milk was a huge improvement on just mixing it into a normal drinking glass.
The separate sections of the mixer bottle can be a bit tricky to clean, but this is just the nature of this type of product, and it's highly advisable to try and wash the bottle straight away after use otherwise the supplement drink remains have a tendency to get very smelly very quickly, and can be quite nasty to clean up.
Overall I would not recommend the Lucozade Sport Shaker Bottle. It's not the worst product but I do find it cumbersome and fiddly to use, and coupled with the unreliable lid this has meant that it stays at the back of my kitchen cupboard and only really gets used for filling with water when I'm exercising indoors at home thanks to the large volume that it can hold. There are better alternatives out there. Worth a 2.5 star rating in my opinion, but I've bumped it up to 3 as I expect anyone with larger hands (i.e. the target male audience) would be able to use this more easily.
I have had a body over haul this year, I have lost a total of 4 stone and am now lighter than I was in my teenage years! I decided after feeling uncomfortable on holiday seeing skinny women in there bikinis it was time to do something about my weight issues. I wanted to lose the weight naturally and slow so I had better chances of keeping the weight off. I joined my local gym and use the gym and fitness classes such as body pump and zumba.
A personal trainer suggested that I should try a protein shake to optimise my work out results, I use a protein powder that I buy from my local fitness shop. I only use the protein shake before and after I work out as I do not want to be too muscular I just want to be toned and strong. I need to buy a protein shaker bottle but found them to be rather expensive so I looked on Amazons website and found the lucozade shaker bottle for £3.50 and it was posted for free.
The bottle is tall and thick and is circular shaped, the bottle holds 700 mls of any fluids you wish to fill it with. The bottle has a frosted finish to it but is slightly transparent and it helps you see how much shake is left in the bottle. It has a blue lid which is chunky and easy to grip to remove the lid, the lid removes by unscrewing it. The lid has a cap that you remove to get a drink and the cap is attached to a strap. There is a large lucozade sport logo in blue on the side of the bottle, there is also to flat sides on the bottle which makes it easy to hold and on the flat side there is a measuring guide like what you would find on a measuring jug.
To mix shakes you have to remove the lid and inside the bottle at the top there is a white plastic grid that acts like a sieve You have to remove the sieve and add in the protein powder and then fill it with the required amount of water and put the plastic sieve in, the sieve stays in place and you screw the lid back on. Now the fun part begins, you have to shake the bottle like mad, there is no real technique to shaking it but I must say try to be as quick as possible. My protein shake becomes frothy and slightly thicker in consistency like a milk shake.
I feel it was very well priced compared to some on the market, the lucozade version is the exact same model as the maxi tone bottle and much cheaper. I find it easy enough to use and the lid and drinking cap comes off easy enough and seals well and does not leak even when lying flat in my sports bag. It holds a large volume which is good for some people but I only ever half fill the bottle for my work outs. The mixing of this bottle is quite easy to master but I do find that the protein powder can stick to the sides and the bottom of the bottle and looks quite disgusting I usually use a fork to give it a extra mix if needed. I like how frothy it makes my shake and it helps to thicken the liquid to a nice consistency. Its very easy to keep clean as it is dish washer safe and I pop it in the dish washer every night but if I need it in a hurry I wash it by hand with hot soapy water. I have had this for nearly a year now and its in excellent condition and have had many gym buddies asking where they can purchase the shake bottle.
I highly recommend this bottle on its mixing ability and price, it can also be used as just a water bottle. I will be awarding this bottle 5 dooyoo stars.
It seems the longer I go to the gym the more of these protein shakers I accumulate. They're like a badge of honour or something, proof that you indeed do work out! Typically when you order a tub of protein online or pick one up in your local shop they tend to throw in a shaker for free. This tends to be useful for the first two or three occasions but on your 6th order it can get a touch frustrating! I got this shaker very recently at a Sports Medicine conference that was sponsered by Lucozade Sport. I'm not quite sure how this cheap plastic bottle was meant to sway me but hey, I got a free toy!
Protein shakers are used by a large proportion of the gym going public as a means to mix pre and post workout shakes. Usually these shakes are some blend of protein and carbohydrates mixed with either water or milk. Despite the scaremongering by some over zealous kidney doctors some extra protein in your diet is not going to give you renal failure. Instead the extra protein can help to increase your lean muscle mass, making you stronger, helping you lose weight and probably most importantly, help you look better naked!
This protein shaker is nothing special to be honest. It's a standard 700ml plastic bottle which is about 8 inches tall and about 3 inches around. The plastic in the bottle is fairly sturdy while not feeling too stiff or brittle. It's hard to describe but it has enough give that I'm confident of it not cracking in my gym bag if it gets a few bumps and bruises. On the front of the bottle is the well known "Lucozade Sport" logo, it's fairly inobtrusive which makes a nice change from the usual "MUSCLE-TEK 9000 HD+" stuff that's usually on there. The cap is made of a thinner blue plastic with a gloss finish, which I think goes nicely with the bottle logo. It ties the whole thing together nicely and makes it look more respectable than the usual fare. The cap screws on securely and doesn't leak a drop even with severe shaking.
The main downside of this type of protein shaker is what's on the inside. The main purpose of a shaker is to mix your protein powder with either milk or water. As anyone who has used protein powder knows this is easier said than done as the protein can clump or stick to the sides of the bottle. Newer shakers use a small wire sphere which acts as a miniature blender inside the bottle. This lucozade model however relies on a plastic mesh which sits at the top of the bottle under the cap. While the mesh provides a reasonable amount of blending it fails to properly emulsify the mixture and can leave you drinking lumps of protein powder after your workout. It's a real pity that more manufacturers don't incorporate the metal sphere idea, it really does change your powder and water into a perfectly smooth shake.
Luckily all parts of this product are dishwasher safe which does help in cleaning out stubborn pieces of whey! Unfortunately this can lead to a fading of the nice lucozade logo, which is a pity as it really does add an elegant finish to the bottle. Overall this is a middle of the road shaker which will work exactly the same as any other. If you're handed it for free take it like I did but if you're willing to part with your hard earned cash pop onto MyProtein and get one of their metal sphere models for a few pounds.
4 Stars. It does the job as good as any other similarly designed model but does look significantly better and more mature while doing it.
