Long gone are the days when I could just leave the house with my keys in one pocket and my wallet in another and some days it feels like a small military operation to make sure that I have everything that I 'need'. Because I have to take my laptop, my phone, kindle, tablet, the kitchen sink etc. I really do need a bag most days when I am going somewhere. Because of the amount of junk that I have I have several man bags which I use on an almost daily basis. I usually carry about a backpack but I do have a couple of shoulder bags too which I like to use and think go well with jeans and trainers. I bought myself this Superdry shoulder bag at Christmas from The House of Fraser. ~~~~~ Who are Superdry ~~~~~ Superdry is a clothing brand for men and women selling a range of denim, tops, accessories and everything in between. Although you could be forgiven for thinking the brand was Japanese due to the fact that most of their items of clothing have Japanese writing on them it is actually a British clothing company. The brand was first set up in the 1980's but over the last few years it has become really popular with both celebrities and the general public and there are Superdry shops and concessions within department stores all over the country. ~~~~~ The bag ~~~~~ Superdry do several different types of bags but the one I am reviewing is called the Alumni bag and comes in three different colours. The one I have is the Royal blue and off white version. You can also buy it in a navy blue/cream or orange/white combination. For me the Royal blue definitely stands out the most and looks the best. The bag is made from 100% polyurethane which has a faux leather/rubber appearance. It is designed to look retro and has the Superdry logo emblazed across the front of the bag along with some Japanese characters which have a crackling effect to give it an even more retro vintage feel. The primary colour of the bag is Royal blue but the writing is white along with the piping which does break up the blue and gives it a really cool look. The branding is really in your face though so it isn't for those people who don't like obvious branding on their clothes. The backside of the bag has a diamond quilted pattern which not only looks good but gives more cushioned protection to anything you may have in the bag. It also has a zip as opposed to just a buckle which is one of the reasons that I chose the bag as it does offer more security and less chance of things just falling out like can happen with a buckle fastening. The shoulder strap is adjustable and although it doesn't have a padded area the polyurethane is quite comfortable on my shoulder and I don't find it to be too long or too short. The bag only comes in one size and measures 38cm in length and 28cm in height. It isn't the biggest bag in the world and you would have trouble using it for anything more than just a day to day bag. It also doesn't have very many compartments which is a shame as I do like to separate my things to make sure that they aren't going to get damaged. On the outside of the bag there is a compartment but as this has no way of sealing it shut I don't like to use it in case I lose whatever I put in there. On the inside of the bag there are only two compartments. The main compartment and a side one which does fit my laptop so at least I know that I can separate that from everything else in the bag. Unfortunately this isn't padded so I have to make sure that I have my laptop in a sleeve before putting it in the bag. There is plenty of room for everything that I use it for and I can have my laptop, kindle, wallet, phone in there and at least with not having loads of different compartments I can find what I want in it with ease. I would have like a small zip compartment for my wallet but it is something that I can live without. One little touch that I do like is that it has a little clear window on the back so that I can write my name and address on it. The bag is pretty durable especially considering the abuse that I put it through. It is really well made and stitched well and so far after a few months there are no loose stiches or holes in it. Even the bottom of the bag where it gets thrown on the ground is hardly even scruffed. Looking after the bag is easy too especially because the material is great for repelling things. If anything does get on the bag I just wipe it over with a damp cloth and it wipes off. The material the bag is made from is also waterproof but unfortunately the fabric that the zip is attached too isn't so rain will still get through to your things inside the bag if it is especially heavy but for drizzle and light rain it does a good job of keeping everything dry. ~~~~~ Recommendation ~~~~~ I would recommend this bag depending on what it is you are actually wanting it for. If you are just looking for a bag that looks really cool and trendy that you can store your laptop and a few other items in then this is perfect for that. However if you are looking for a heavy duty bag that can double up as a weekend getaway bag then you will probably want to look elsewhere as this isn't going to have enough room for you. I paid £40 for the bag in a concession within The House of Fraser which I think is a fair price for a trendy bag by a popular brand. Of course you are paying a premium because of the fact it is Superdry and you can probably pick up a similar looking one cheaper but that's a fact of life that if you want something named then you are going to have to pay for it. On the plus side it might be trendy etc. but it is also very well made and will probably last a lot longer than a cheaper one would.
