==Rubies Darth Vader Cape and Mask== Jack loves Star Wars and it seems so do a lot of other of boys in his class as we recently got invited to a 6th birthday party which had a Star Wars theme. Up until now we hadn't bought Jack any dressing up items which are Star Wars related but we decided that for this party we would get him a little outfit. The Darth Vader one seemed to be the best option as it is widely available and a lot cheaper than a few of the other Star Wars related fancy dress. Plus I thought it would also double up as a Halloween outfit too. We purchased the Darth Vader children's cap and Mask from Amazon as there is really not many places that would see this sort of thing near by where we live. The price at a touch under £8 was really reasonable and I had left buying it till fairly late and needed it to arrive asap. The outfit came and I was really less than impressed. Jack was super impressed but then again he didn't have to pay out the £8 for it. The mask itself is a plastic one and this is actually made to a good standard. There is an elastic strap on the mask which allows it to be slipped on and off with relative ease and this fit Jack well even though we had got the 5 years to 8 years age range and which he is in the bottom end of that range. The mask doesn't' do anything fancy and is merely a black plastic Darth Vader look a like and a lot of the other boys at the party had all singing all dancing masks that spoke when you pressed the button but Jack wasn't at all bothered as he was keen to speak like Darth Vader with the "I am your father phrase". The plastic that the mask is made from is really quite sturdy and after the party I did give it a wipe over with a damp cloth as there were some birthday cake like marks on it which were wipes away easily enough. The cape however is the big disappointment in this set and I probably could have made something a lot better myself had I planned it a bit more in advance. Although it is made of a nylon which is tough and not easy to rip, the edges of the cape are not finished off at all well and there is a small Velcro fastening at the neck which is way too small to keep the cape in place for any long period of time and this needs to be at least 5 times the size to be efficient. The cape was a little long for Jack too and even though he isn't a small 5 year old I did need to cut the bottom a little to make sure he wasn't going to stand on the cape throughout the duration of the party. This was easy to do and didn't make that much difference as there was no real hem on the cape and the material didn't fray at all. Overall I have to say that really you get what you pay for and as I only spent a mere £8 on the set I suppose I shouldn't of expected too much. However the mask is not bad but the cape lets the set down a great deal. I think if I had known how bad I perhaps would have bought the mask separately and the made a much better cape myself. Jack however loved the outfit and I am sure that it will see us through Halloween and a few more dress up days at home. I think this set is an okay one for the price although I can't really award more than a 3 star rating and that is being rather generous I think. There are better ones out there for more money so it might be worth investing a bit more money to get something that is finished better and will surely last a lot longer than this set will. I do hope that this has been of some help/interest to you Many thanks for taking the time to read.
I bought the star Wars Darth Vader Childs Mask and cape for my 8 year old and it went down a storm! The set fitted just fine, with the cloak sweeping the floor as he walked. The cloak is made of a tough material that does not look like it will rip even if the most fearsome ofchild lightsaber battles! The cloak has a velcro fastening around the neck which is a good safety feature, should it get trapped in anything, the cloak will come away safely. The mask is made out of rigid plastic that does have a slight bend to it but it is not overly flimsy. The detail on the mask is very good and it covers the face quite nicely, with enough space behind the eyes and mouth not to be too claustrophobic. The kit could have benefitted from a black under shirt for the cloak and maybe a lightsaber, but for the price theset is good enough and a black T shirt underneath is good enough. A nice little set, and a good price.
Play the notorious Darth Vader's decendent.
