“ Brand: Rubies „
My daughter absolutely loves anything to do with Mario she especially loves playing Mario games on the Wii or her DS. Her favorite character to play in any of these games is Princess Peach. Like most children she also loves to dress up, so when I saw this Princess Peach dressing up outfit I just couldn't resist buying it for her.
I bought this dress from Amazon, but I believe it is available in other stores. It is an official Nintendo / Mario product by Rubies. Amazon sell the following sizes: Small, 5-6, 7-8 & large. I have no idea what ages groups the small and large are and find it quiet annoying that they give a size for these rather than an age group, very confusing. Luckily my daughter fell nicely into the 7-8 category and this is the one I purchased. I forget how much I paid for this but prices currently vary from £13.73 to £17.64 depending on the size. The dress can also be bought in the adult sizes small, medium and large. Other dressing up outfits are also available including Mario, Luigi and Toad (Again prices vary) Ah, the fun kids could have all wearing a different character outfit!
The dress came in a excessively large box (as always with Amazon) . The dress was packaged inside a plastic bag with a popper. There was a cardboard sleeve inside with general information on along with a picture of a child wearing one of the dresses.
When my daughter opened up the package she was absolutely over the moon. I do find that my daughter is on the small size for her age, but this dress really did seem to swim on her, oh well, mothers mantra, she'll grow into it. The dress itself is very pretty and does look just like the dress Princess Peach wears. The main body of the dress is a light pink or peach colour, whilst the collar, peplum, sleeves and hems are a darker pink. The contrasting pink colours look really good, and very authentic. The collar is foam and soft to touch. I love how the sleeves are puffed up and have lots of volume to them. On the front of the dress is the gold ring with blue inside it, just like on Peaches outfit. The dress is long and the skirt part comes right down to the floor. I feel the dress was too long on my daughter and because of this the dress has frayed quiet a lot from being dragged on the floor. Underneath the skirt part is a white net underskirt, which works really well at puffing the dress out giving it a real princess look and feel. That being said, my daughter found the net to be quiet annoying and at times itchy so she would wear tights or leggings underneath. Another slight annoyance with this outfit is that it fastens on the back with a simple small square of velcro, I feel a larger peice of velcro would have been more suitable as it easily comes undone.
What Princess oufit would be complete without a crown? I love the crown that came with this outfit. It is made of foam and has an elastic strap to keep it in place. It is gold in colour and has printed jewel pictures around it. Very Cute. I like the material of this crown and it fits very well ontop of the head and stays in shape. In my opinion much better than a plastic crown, as these always seem to break. A pair of long white gloves completes this outfit.
On the label inside we are given information on the dress. This includes warnings to keep away from fire and the following material information:
Robe 100% Polyester
Foam 100% Polyester
Glove 100% Polyester
Exclusive of Decoration
We are also given washing insructions telling us to hand wash only. I find it quiet annoying that childrens dressing up costumes are very rarely machine washable. I have hand washed this a few times and luckily I have not had a need to put it in the washing machine, but feel it may fall apart if I ever did.
My daughter has had this dress for nearly a year, and so tends not to play with it as much as when it was new. I would say that the quality of the dress is not brilliant and it is showing signs of wear and tear. As mentioned before the hem is frayed. Also a fairly large rip appeared at the back of the dress. I have sewed this hole up quiet a few times, but it seems to keep coming back, althought I am not sure if this says more about my sewing skills than the quality of the dress. There are also quiet a few "pulls" on the dress, which I think is down to the material.
If your daughter loves Princess Peach then I would certainly recommend this dress, but dont expect it to last too long. That being said, do childrens dressing up costumes ever last that long anyways? My daughter has had lots of fun playing with this and manages to always rescue herself rather than wait for Mario to turn up. I think this would be great for dressing up parties, halloween or, as my daughter has, just for playing with and having fun in.
