A BRILLIANT TOY WHICH WILL KEEP YOUR LITTLE ONE ENTERTAINED FOR AGES.

My niece is two and loves coming to my house as I love any nonsense and will spend hours role playing with her. One day we will be princesses in a tower, another day nurses in a busy casualty and on others we imagine we are busy mums cooking tea and looking after the house. (not such a stretch for my acting ability beings as I am a busy mum!) One toy that gets used again and again is the marks and spencers Mummy and me tea set. What a wonderful toy to use as a prop for our imaginary games. Basically this plastic, brightly coloured tea set comes in a big transparent plastic tea pot. The set is excellent in both quality and quantity. At £12 it is a real good buy and in my experience we have more than had our money worth in terms of playtime with this toy. Within the set is cups, saucers, spoons, small plates and a gorgeous little cake which is divided into four pieces. This toy ticks so many boxes on the child development front. Not only does it promote imaginary play. But it's bright colours and chunky plastic accessories helps my neice to use her fine motor skills to perform tasks such as putting sugar in the tea and stirring it. I also love the fact that through play I can see her benefiting educationally from playing with this set. Her counting is put to the test, when I ask for two sugars or three pieces of cake. I find it is far more effective than when we do more structured counting activities. I think this tea set is great as it can be used by both boys and girls. The colours of the items are bright and stimulating but not too feminine. My son is five he is often drawn into a game with us as he is not offended by these brightly coloured cups and saucers. I know for a fact if these cups were pink he wouldn't be seen for dust!! The cups, saucers and other items in the set are of a very good, durable quality. They have been used so much and washed a few times. They maintain their brightness of colour very well. Although there is slight scratching on the cups, it is still in excellent condition. I honestly think this tea set would be ideal for use in a creche or nursery setting. As it is robust enough to withstand heavy use. The only thing that I am not so keen on is the large teapot it all comes in. It is rather large and takes up quite alot of room in storage. Also my niece insists on taking this teapot on her travels. This can be a real pain as it takes up alot of room in the car and is quite big to carry. Whilst I love the quirkyness of this set being placed in a large tea pot. In reality I would find this set far more practical if it were in a little bag or case. All in all though this toy is a real winner. Especially for pre school children. It has so much to offer in a toy. It is not only fun but has so much to offer in terms of promoting language and physical development. So in short it's a Fab toy. Full marks!

        a lovely toy

Another Sunday afternoon, another tea party - no cucumber sandwiches or buttered scones, but once again this lovely little teaset has taken centre stage for a whole family of teddies and assorted cuddly toys. This is a great tea set which is currently available on the Marks and Spencer website at and in larger stores - I would assume there would be plenty of stock for Christmas, as there was last year when it was part of the 3 for 2 deal. It costs £12. My daughter has owned it for about a year and goes through stages of playing with it every single day. Inside the giant tea pot you get an assortment of brightly coloured tea things - cups, saucers and plates, knives, spoons and forks; 4 of each and there is also a cake which is in four pieces held together by velcro. There is also a smaller tea pot and what I assume is a milk jug. Everything is made of shiny and nice quality plastic, after lots of play it still looks good as new, my only criticisms being that the spout on the large teaport has no hole - as it doubles up as storage - and also the top is a little hard to remove and replace for little hands. It would also be nice to know if the plastic is recyclable, there is no symbol on the items to show whether it is or not. The teapot and its contents is quite big to store - I have roughly measured and the bowl of the large teapot is about 25cm in diameter - with the handle and spout it is about 40 cm long, it is about 23cm high. It is, however, a great addition to any toy collection and at least it is easily stored all together, which is good for tidying up and also reduces the likelihood of bits going astray - ours is still all complete remarkably. Play value wise, this is excellent. My daughter loves to serve up all sorts of treats with this set and will play at picnics with her playfood, tea parties and her current favourite all time game - birthday parties. All the elements of this set are exactly the right size for her and extremely robust and, being of plastic, washable - "washing up" is another favourite game. I would think children could play usefully with this from age 1 or so up to 5 or 6, it is great at promoting imagination. I once read, in the Sunday Times I think, that the only toys children really need are role play, art items, musical instruments and some sort of construction toy - my own experience as a parent would echo this sentiment, role play items such as this are amongst the most played with toys. This is much better than other alternatives that I have seen - my other daughter had a ceramic teaset as a gift and this has stood the test of time and been played with a lot less. I highly recommend this teaset, and I think it would make a fantastic present!

A lovely fun set for your toddler

Harry has a very vivid imagination for a 2 year old, and consequently we like to get him toys that he can create scenarios from, or do some sort of role play with. When I spotted this lovely teaset in Marks and Spencer as part of their Christmas shop, I knew it'd make a perfect gift for Harry. We gave it his Aunt and Uncle to give to him rather than receive something he wouldn't like, and he opened it on Christmas Day exclaiming that we could now have a tea party...what a hit! Marks and Spencer do many quality childrens toys, we are massive fans of their puzzles ranges so I expected the same sort of quality and fun to come from this gift as well. I hadn't seen this teaset before Christmas to be honest, and saw it in the toys section of their Christmas shop, but I have noticed that it is still available online, although its no longer in my local branch of M&S. The teaset costs £9.50 (slightly less with the VAT reduction now) and I think that's very good value considering what you get in the set and the amount of fun you can have with it! The teaset comes packed inside a giant clear plastic teapot as you can see in the picture. I think this teapot is meant more for decoration and storage rather than use by children, but Harry does love "making and pouring" a cup of tea from it, bless him! The palstic is quite thick so it won't damage easily, and it features a bright yellow lid and spout, so it is a pretty unisex set which is good. The lid screws on and off but you have to place it correctly which Harry struggles to do, so its more of a parents job to do this. That's handy to stop random messes of tea sets all over the sitting room floor though! Once you've gotten into the toy, you can then have loads of fun with all the bits and bobs you get inside. You get 4 of everything, so your little one can invite four guests to the tea party, so that means Harry makes cups of tea for me, Daddy and the cat Magic as well! You get 4 little teacups, 4 saucers, 4 plates, 4 knives, forks and spoons, and finally 4 little chunks of cake as well! Each of the items come in a different colour so your child can learn their colours while playing this. The set comes in red, yellow, green and blue so there's a colour there for everyone. The knife and fork obviously aren't at all sharp as they are rounded plastic, but perfect for make believe eating! The cake is bright pink with a little cherry on the top, and looks fab on the plates! As well as the eating implements and cups, you get 2 little jugs as well. One is meant to be like a little kettle, with a removable lid and a hole for a spout. We like to fill this up with a little water so Harry can pour us a drink, and he's thrilled when 'tea' really comes out! The other jug is more like a milk jug, just open with a triangular spout and we haven't used this one much. Both of these jugs are red so go with the rest of the set quite well. When you set the whole thing out on the floor or table, it does look fantastic. It's really colourful, there's plenty of things to keep toddlers imaginations going and its fun for all the family as well! For the bargain price of £9.50, we have had so much fun as a family playing with the teaset and having tea parties! Harry loves nothing more than lining up all the cups and pouring a cup of tea out of the giant teapot, or a little water when we're feeling adventurous lol! It's all very made, so its a set that is going to last a long time. Being plastic, its easy and quick to wash up for us parents, but doesn't mention being dishwasher safe so I wouldn't risk that! It seems to have suffered the wear and tear of Harry very well, and is probably one of his favourite Christmas presents this year. For imagination purposes alone I would highly recommend this one, its fab and fun for mums and dads too! M&S Product Code: T799411. Thank you for reading!
