My daughter lovers to make us tea

My youngest daughter turned 2 about 6 weeks ago and we were struggling for what to buy her as she has all her older sisters old toys. When we were sorting through the next stage of toys for her we came across a till and a trolley but the food that her older sister had had was put in the bin so we decided to buy her some more.

The food set came from Toys R Us and is part of their Just Like Home range which as the name would suggest is a range is things you have around the home but in toy form.

The set costs £9.99 and it came packaged in a large cardboard box which is open at the front and fronted with plastic so that you are able to see what is inside the set. The box is dark blue in colour and it states on the box that there are 120 pieces in the set, once you have opened the set the box is no good for keeping it in and it is a pretty big set so it's wise to bear that in mind.

The set comprises of a great range of items, you have fruits such as apples and pears along with vegetables such as carrots and onions. There is also fast foods such as pizza and fries and then packets and tins of food plus you get a little salt and pepper pot too. I like that the set has a wide range of food and you can use it to teach your child about what is healthy and what isn't.

The set is aimed at ages 3 and up and we found that some things weren't any good for our daughter such as the boxes of things as she just kept flattening them and some littler pieces such as the crisps simply because she puts them in her mouth.

The set encourages imaginative play which is something my youngest loves so this is a really great set for her. The pieces are made of plastic and are pretty durable with no damage to any of them yet although like I said above the boxes of things aren't quite so good. The set was a decent price and worth what we paid as my daughter really loves playing shop and making meals for people.

a good cheap food play set

My daughter received a few items from the Just Like Home range from Toys R Us for her birthday and Christmas last year and one of those items was the mega food play set - and mega it really is!!

There are 120 pieces in this set and there is a great range of foods - there are vegetables such as corn, chillies, carrots, lettuce and onions, fruits such as grapes, pears and apples, and then other foods such as pizza, fries, burgers, chocolate, ice cream, doughnuts, cake along with packets and tins of foods and a mini salt and pepper pot. The food comes in a large clear fronted cardboard box, with the pizza being the initial thing that you see as its large in the middle of the box. The downside with the packaging is that once opened there is nowhere to put the food so i had to buy a plastic box specially.

My little girl adores this set, she loves making the meals in her kitchen and then plating them up to serve to myself and her Grandma. The set really promotes role play and imagination and I love that it does that, its a really important part of play in my opinion. The variety of items in this set is what I think really makes it a good buy however there are some very small crisps (just like pringles) which I really don't like as I feel they are too small and thin to be totally safe. The set is recommended for children aged 3 and above, but even then I think the pringles aren't all that safe as children at this age still tend to put things in their mouths.

All in all I feel this set has been a really good buy and my daughter has had a huge amount of play from it, and at £12.99 personally I think it was a bargain! There are various other sets in this range so you can just keep adding to the collection if you so wished.

I would recommend this play set as a great starter for food play, the range of food in the set is adequate for children to make pretend meals and also play shopping!
