“ Brand: Asda / Type: Girl's Alice In Wonderland Costume „
One afternoon when I was picking my daughter up from nursery I overheard one of the other mums talking to her little boy about wearing fancy dress the following day which I had heard absolutely nothing about and apparently I had been missed when putting letters in the childrens trays! This left me with a complete panic as I knew I had to go out fancy dress hunting that afternoon. My daughter decided that she wanted a princess outfit, but after trailing round countless shops we couldn't find anything she liked and the last resort was to call at Asda. As soon as we arrived at the clothes my daughter was jumping up and down with excitement as she had found the perfect dress - Alice In Wonderland! It hadn't occured to me to look for an outfit from her favourite Disney film in Asda, I presumed I would have had to go to the Disney Store for something like that.
The Alice costume I am reviewing today is slightly different to the one pictured, as it has just recently changed to a new design - within a week of me buying our outfit! I tried the dress on my daughter in the store and she insisted on keeping it on which was really quite tricky when it came to paying for it!! The dress has a very satin feel to it and is made from 100% polyester. The dress is literally just like Alice's in the Disney cartoon with the most part being a blue dress covered by a white silky apron. On the front of the upper part of the apron is a small picture of Alice, and on the bottom of the apron is a frilly white pocket with a picture of the white rabbit holding his large pocketwatch. The arms of the dress are very short and just come down a little further than the shoulders and are quite puffed up (rather like a Snow White type of dress) which gives a lovely effect. The sleeves are elasticated on the edge which makes the puffed effect stay in place. Underneath the skirt of the dress is a frilly underskirt which hangs down slightly under the blue part of the dress. The dress fastens at the back with three velcro fastenings and the waist is slightly elasticated so it shouldn't pop open when the child is playing or bending. Along with the dress came a pair of black and white striped tights and a black headband with a black bow attached.
After wearing the dress for nursery, you can imagine the state of it - several paint stains and a bit of glue on the apron so I really thought that it would be ruined, and was very wary about putting it in the washing machine. However after a quick wash in the machine it came out looking like new!
To say my daughter adores this dress doesn't even come close to how much she loves it, she wears it literally every single day! If it isn't in the afternoon after nursery, she will wear it after tea to which is the time that she decides she always needs a dance to her music. So far we have found a couple of little pulls in the dress which I totally expected in a dress made out of such a fine satin feel fabric. The only downside I have found with this dress is that the bottom velcro fastening doesn't stay fastened no matter how many times I try and make it stay so! All in all we love this dress and I personally think my daughter looked absolutely stunning in it, just like a dark haired Alice!
The Alice In Wonderland dress cost £12.50 from Asda and for such a fantastic dress I think this is a real bargain, especially when comparing it to other shops selling very similar dresses at much higher prices. The sizes available in the outfit are 3-4, 5-6 and 7-8. I cannot recommend this fancy dress costume enough, it is great quality, fits well and washes perfectly.
